data usage per app - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

on my old phone when i clicked on a app in data usage, it would display a graph of the data used by just that app inside the total usage. In my nexus if i pay close attention, it shows that graph for 500ms then disappears. how do I get this graph to stay showing?
PS it disapears too fast for me to take a screenshot.

Phone Not Sleeping Properly

And spare parts doesn't work. Any other way to check what's keeping it awake?

try installing aLogCat and see if there's anything fishy on the logs (namely programs trying to background update more than they should... Java exceptions can often be a source of resource leakage if not handled correctly by the program that throws them).
WatchDog is also a good tool to see what's taking a toll on the CPU. I once found out that WeatherBug would keep the CPU topped up if kept in an area without internet connectivity as a result of some mishandled code error or something.

Watchdog
Hi. I am having similar problems. I downloaded Watch Dog lite and have used Battery Usage to see that Android System is using much of my battery even when asleep (overall, it is about ~46% of usage).
I have Wi-Fi turned to "Never On When Sleep" (or whatever the setting is) and I've noticed that when I look at Battery Usage, the blue bar that corresponds with Awake is nearly identical to that of Wi-Fi. I've also noticed that when I hit the sleep button, and create a break in the Screen On blue bar, there is not an immediate corresponding break in the Awake or Wi-Fi blue bars despite my settings. Is this normal?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
what I can't tell is the difference between awake and up time...with the evo it was blatant but I can't figure out if the phone is actually "awake"
I think "Up Time" is time from last reboot and "Awake" is time since the phone is pulled out of sleep (either by turning the screen on, syncing data, background data collecting information, or etc).
Hopefully I'm correct...

That IS EXACTLY CORRECT. you get a cookie.
My NS4G is having problems sleeping, as well. Seems to be awake around 25% of the time, whereas actual screen-on time is about 10-12%.

[INFO] [APP] Ads within Android Apps

Qouted from GSMArena:
"Seems that Purdue University researchers have found that ads within apps consume about 75% of the app's total power consumption.
They've used an energy profiler named EProf that can analyze the power consumption of a device by monitoring each and every app.
While testing Angry Birds, it was found that the game itself consumed only 20 percent of the total power consumed by the app. The remaining of it was used to display the ads. To do this, the phone has to upload the user's location to a server and then download the ad over a data connection. The location upload happens the first time only but the ad data is downloaded with every new level.
Note that here we are talking about 75 percent of the total power consumed by the app and not the phone itself. Which is why don't expect it to see it in the battery manager of your phone because it only shows the total power used by the app, including the power used by the ads. So basically, when your phone tells you Angry Birds used 30 percent of your phone's battery, only 20 percent of that 30 percent was used by the game and the rest was used for showing you ads."
Seems that using AdFree programs will improve our battery consumption !
I was wondering about this myself... will using adblockers or ad free programs really improve the battery life or are they just making it so we don't see the ads but the process is still being done in the background?
Is it really a shock that network activity caused by ads uses up battery power? And to be clear, they aren't saying that ads use up 75% of the phone's power consumption. They are just referring to particular apps.

Judging by this i guess I will assume he means 20/30% was used by the ads while 10/30% was used by the games (there is another sentence talking about 75% ads/25% game). Seems like the writer got confused
But yes, i agree with this (though slightly exaggerated and general) result. Likely more so while using data than wifi, too (wifi will be using extra power anyway and grab it quickly, data will only be using extra power while transferring and grab it somewhat slower). Doesn't necessarily mean wifi uses less power overall, though.
Yes, this would be apps total power consumption. So if you check your battery stats and Angry Birds has 20% of consumption, it would be about 75% of this value which was taken by ads (so Angry Birds only took 5% of that total).
I am guessing with AdBlockers we would reduce this total amount since it won't be able to connect to it's servers and get locations and stuff, but it would still try connect on the background.
This would apply for any app that has ads on it.

But it is only talking about that short period where it fetches and sends ad data. They didn't do an extensive test to see the overall usage after a long period of time.

Who knows how much time they have spent on this research. One thing they say is that this EProf app will be released soon, so we can test it on our own

Sudden massive data surge from G+

My data allowance was suddenly wiped out during the night given that I use wifi at home. I looked up the data usage and it was G+ 2.44Gb! I have auto-backup and sync switched on but only for wifi connection. I cannot understand how it might happen. No I am grounded in terms of mobile Internet till mid month when my allowance is going to be reset or should pay £1 a day if I keep using it. I guess there is no way to get Google pay for that although it is their fault.
Did you limit the data usage? Settings > data usage > Check set mobile data limit. In the bar move the two lines on how much data usage you should get a warning and limit the data usage.

It was set albeit at the top of my monthly allowance. It all happened during a few hours at night so I could not act on the warning anyway. Next time I will be wise and set the limit to 50-75% of the allowance, which I usually never use fully anyway. The annoying bit is that there is no meaningful way to complain to Google or about Google, although it is probably their bug in G+, which was responsible for the extreme data usage.
Received the January bill from T-Mobile today and it shows that I got over the limit actually from Dec.29 and was charged 1 pound a day for 11 days. Something wierd happenned. I wonder if anyone else experienced same thing as well?

Normal battery drain % per hour: what are you getting?

I've been on just browsing and I'm drained 15% in 50 mins is this normal?
Oh yeah... My screen is set to a very low setting so I don't understand why it's showing 93%
By very low I mean... One above the lowest so the screen's pretty dark
YouTube over wifi and lte, lots of browsing and most likely 200+ messages.

That's great! So how come I've only got 1:58:34 for screen time and 84% you've used over 3 hours and still your screen usage is 56% how come yours is lower?
I don't get it
AccuBattery Pro for me @ 90% this morning shows:
5%/h 265% in 53h 10m
Screen on 6h41m
Screen off 71h7m
Combined use 20h4m
I added Fandango and Regal Cinemas apps this morning (and used them each) and took a phone call along with some SMS, Facebook, Gmail, and Outlook use.
Here are screenshots showing my average usage times and drain avg per HR. (For some reason GSam Battery Monitor didn't calculate the app usage correctly )

The battery life of my Axon 7 is absolutely s*** compared to yours !
If I don't touch my phone for an entire day, it still goes from 100 to 0% in less than 24 hours.
4.7%/h
6h 9m active
Used 85% in 17h57min
Screen - 68% (3h15)
--> Discharge while on/off : 49/36
It would be really nice if you could put a screenshot of your "Power management for apps" (the app "Stitch & Share" can help ) and just say what you mainly switch on or not ?
Thanks !
I use my phone a little different from others. I have music or podcast playing for over 8 hours non stop when I'm working, as well as watch youtube on my breaks. I use bluetooth headphones so bluetooth & wifi are always on. GPS is always on high accuracy since I don't want to be bothered with GPS settings right before I start driving. I also get a lot of messages in a day since I'm in group chats. Since mobile reception at my work is very poor, if I leave mobile connection on, my phone will barely make it to 8.5 hour mark. However, if I turn on airplane mode (with wifi & bluetooth still on), the phone will still have around 40% left by the end of my shift. So I'm getting 7% per hour with the screen mostly off, mobile connection off, wifi & bluetooth on & connected
Here are my AccuBattery results which show which apps I generally use except I haven't used the camera at all the last few days.
Here are my Power Management settings, nothing turned on that isn't needed

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but hopefully I finally posted what you were looking for.
Mine is the A2017G model stuck at B02.
Just surfing XDA forms for 5 minutes drains my batter from 96 to 91 percent

View WiFi usage of specific date range (less than a month)

It seems WiFi usage only displays the last 30 days or something. Is there any way to make it more specific?
I need an app that can filter past WiFi usage to specific days. It cannot just start monitoring after I install it.
The ability to filter data usage the same way would be nice too, instead of only seeing billing cycle. Thanks.
