Actual fix for camera issue? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've browsed these forums and the general Internet the past day but haven't found a clear answer/solution to the slow motion camera issue. I get it either after I'm done recording at 120fps (file appears in gallery but camera won't start again until reboot) or if I switch to 240fps (don't even get a chance to record). Currently running pure nexus and have done all the suggested fixes (clear cache, data, update boot and vendor img, reinstall camera, etc). I got my nexus a week ago and it is the 2016 build. Am I missing something?

Are you atleast using google camera? or android aosp camera lol?

I'm on stock rom, stock camera and I have the same problem.

I'm using the google camera that was included in the gapps zip linked to in the purenexus thread. Is the AOSP camera the one with issues or the google camera?

Aosp one doesnt have all the goodies google camera does. I dont have this problem and dont know what might cause it

Well idk what happened, but I dirty flashed the new purenexus update and it fixed my camera issue.... No clue

or try the stock camera app.works fine...

CM camera app is stable now, although its output leaves a bit to be desired. The only real bug with it now is low volume when recording video. There is a ported version of the ASUS camera app that gives OK results for photos, but video is not working on that.
I am using this apk. thanks dude!

As far as I can tell, identical to the CM AOSP camera app with just the addition of lens blur function (which kind of works, unlike the depth of field mode on the ported ASUS camera app, which crashes on mine). Both the stock and Google apps produce very grainy results though. The ported ASUS app is better.

Thank you so much! Would you happen to know if the ASUS camera works if I pull the APK and use it in CyanogenMod? My new ASUS Zenfone 2 is scheduled to arrive in the mail tomorrow.

I am using it in Cyanogen, someone ported it to work (you can't just download it from the playstore, you need a ported version). If you search the Cyanogen thread on the Zenfone 2 Original Android Development sub-page, you can find the link for it. They got the flash working, and most of the modes (super res, manual etc) seem to function. But as I said, video recording is broken, and the depth of field mode also crashed for me.

240fps in custom rom?

as the title says, is there a way to enable 240fps in a custom rom and if possible without gapps? i can get it to film 120 but not 240
Not a developer but I am running PURE NEXUS and I consider it a Custom Rom. It does shoot 120 and 240. So I guess yes it's possible, but dev might have to enable something somewhere or something....

tried alot of camera apps including open camera which lets me do 120, the cyanogenmod camera which also lets me do 120 and others from playstore which just captured normal video from what i found. I can't find any google camera in the play store, do you mean this? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.photos
guys, found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/themes-apps/mod-google-camera-t3279714 which is meant for a 5x but i find it works amazing on my 6p. Just a apk, no other gapps with it which i like alot as i prefer to keep my devices without gapps whenever possible. Its basically a stock google camera that came with the 6p/5x and works very well.
im using dirty unicorns with google camera installed and can do 240fps recording

Yes that's a modded version of the Google camera. No gapps? To each is own I guess. But Google camera is the only way you will get hdr+ and 240. Not that another app can't have those features it's just that those are not open sourced so someone would have to port from another source or write code
Thank you for making the open source things clear.

If im not mistaken this will be fixed when official lineageOS is released for mido
A fix has been found. Dont worry.
anyone tried that great fix on OctOS Oct-N?
Edit: confirm working with OctOS Oct-N. For stock camera you need to add "camera.hal1.packagelist=org.cyanogenmod.snap" to build.prop
Tested with Stock Camera (org.cyanogenmod.snap) and Moto Camera from here
Sadly i don't know the camera sensor. I didn't checked it on Miui before :/

h990DS Broken camera? Can only record video via snapchat and not camera app

I have a H990DS and ever since I rooted it ive been having problems with my camera. Whenever I go to record a video in the stock camera app or the pixel camera app port thing it just records a still with the audio in the background. The only way I can record videos is using snapchat then saving it. All 3 of the cameras do this. Does anyone know of a fix, I would like to be able to video on my camera, I am also looking for a custom rom for the H990DS aswell.

Looks like you flashed a "bad" kernel. Used to have this issue with emdroidle's generic kernel.
Try to flash this https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/h918-h910-us996-ucl-mk2000-kernel-t3708330
Use Back To The Future build. I've found to be the best working kernel for me.
Good luck :fingers-crossed:

You need to wipe cache/dalvik when flashing this. So it could take as long as half an hour to boot.
But all your stuff is gonna be there after this. (It won't wipe your phone)

Arnova's v8.2 Google Camera Port

I have recently discovered this camera with the help of the xda community and find it to be a great tool, https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-arnova8G2/#apk290 . I am trying to work through issues with the software but am having a couple of issues. I can't seem to find an xda topic post about the camera software where I can ask questions. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks for any help.

I am having issues with the Flash. If I shoot in almost no light when I press the shutter button the flash will fire, it will stay on momentarily and then the app will crash (Camera has Stopped, Open app again). If I leave the flash disabled there are no problems. Also... In complete darkness, if I tap the screen to focus on a particular point the flash should turn on to assist the focus. This just eliminates the ability for me to take 'better' night shots.
Other than that this camera is spectacular. The pictures it is able to produce through the software-hardware combination are really impressive. I also like the fact that that it brings Portrait and Lens Blurr to the camera. Best camera app I have used to date.

I took a look briefly at Camera NX and it seems that Arnova's has a lot more options to fine-tune under Advanced. In the end, it is all about the pictures. Give it a try and post back.
