If it hasn't been turned on, and you pulled the battery as soon as it fell, put it in a bag of rice, and let it sit there for a few days, it should come back to life.
awsome, thanks for the tip ill do that for her
+1
Rice ftw.
Beware of angry gingerbread man
Rice...
And you may have to replace battery, I had to do that for mine
Put through the wash. Took apart, put in front of a fan for a while. Digitizer/lcd is busted. If the phone hadnt been on, chances of survival would have been much higher.
Anyway, rice it.
Is this rice thing for real? Why would you put it in a bag of rice? Details please.

Imma bet it would be because rice is very absorbent. It would snag any extra moisture or liquid that was in the phone it helps dry it out.

Also try vacuuming it before/after. Its better than blowing it with blow dryer. My vibrant survived a quick toilet drop

And you'd win that bet. Rice is a great desiccant. A common trick in the southern US is to put some rice in the salt shaker to prevent the high humidity from making the salt clump up.

If the rice was able to bring that one back, i bet yours its going to be a piece of cake...

My sister in law's toddler droped hers in the toilet and l happened to be there and also did the rice thing and it worked. Well even though it worked she used it for an excuse to upgrade to the 4g so I bought it off her and now I have a second Vibrant and its the one I'm currently using.

rice is nice, Silica gel is better
The rice fix is good, it does act as a dessicant, a better solution (but due to time to start process rice until you can get the stuff together would be an awesome idea, be sure to pull battery, leave back off during whole process...) would be get some new silica gel (a cup or so should do) preferably in a sealed container, put it in a baggie (nice option is the ziplock vacuseal ones with the pump or a seal-a-meal) it is preferred to pull a vacuum on it all, and this is why... when you reduce the pressure on water, you make the ambient temperature closer to the point at which it turns to vapor and is A. relatively harmless, B. easier to move out of the phone and less likely to cause an electrolytic reaction with juice still in board components (like capacitors) this is also why you want to IMMEDIATELY pull the battery, and shake out any water, etc... unfortunately, this cannot fix the moisture evident stickers... that is a chemical reaction...

From my personal experience ;-) I have been swimming in the pool with my phone turned on for 40 minutes. When I went to change I realized i had phone in my pocket. Took battery out immediately. Dry my phone by placing it on top of low heat device for 3 days and it works perfectly.
You must let the phone dry up for 3 days min don't even try to see if it is working just let it dry. Rice or not really does not matter. The phone is not sealed tight so placing the phone over low heat device will do the job just fine. Find cable box or something that constantly stays warm but not hot and rest your phone on top of it. Flip side each day.
This is truly Die Hard Phone unbreakable and can defiantly swim; try that with your iphone ;-)

Sorry to hear that. If it can't turn it on then no. However there are ways to get water out of the device. Put it in a sack of rice for many days . I'm not quite sure about it. Search google about water removal.

rice can be good solution ... not hard to try
If rice doesn't cut it, you can try to open it and clean it. Or get someone who knows how to do that, to do it for you.
It is a desperate solution, but quite a few things can be fixed like this. And since the NS doesn't require special screwdrivers...
A tip from my friend experiencing similar accident is:
Don't ever turn the phone on after it sunk in the water.
Remove the back cover, put out the battery.
Bury them (phone, battery, back cover) in a sack of rice for some days.
My friend told me that he got his Nexus S revived after doing this.
Hope this helps.
coming from an engineering background I would first take it completely apart and rice those components. the more surface area to dry the better.
My phone survived complete submersion

This is perfect advice.
One night while fishing I fell out of boat into the water with my HTC Wizard on in my back pocket. Once I was safe, I pulled the phone out of my pocket and took the battery out. When I got home I packed the phone and battery in rice for a few days. That got 99% of the water out. There was still water behind the screen. So I did a Google search and found some guy in france who fell in the water fishing, and did what I did, then used a MICROWAVE to get the rest of the water out of the screen. Soooo.... I stuck the phone in the microwave for 3 seconds at a time until the screen dried. Worked like a frickin champ.

My darling husband fell in the lake fishing, or so he says I'm trying to dry out his phone. However, no battery or no way of opening it. Can I pull the 6 hex screws on the sides and put all the parts in a zip lock bag with rice? Its on and I can see there are messages and missed calls but nothing works. It wont turn off either. Any advice would be greatly Appreciated.

They're not hex, so please dont damage it with a hex bit. They are torx, and yes most likely would be best bet if youre not scared of putting it back together. You may also want to read about treating it with isopropyl alcohol and silicon spray. Legit method, look it up, ill see if I can find you a link.
I cant find the exact article, however google for 'water damaged phone rice silica alcohol' will yield information thou need four Brest drying methods.

Thanks for all your advice and help.

What timing...I too fell in the lake with my RAZR M in my pocket last weekend. I was turning a boat over on the dock with a couple of people and simply lost my footing. Anyway I just turned it off and put it in a bag of rice as soon as I could and let it sit for about 6 hours. Today everything works just fine but the question is for how long lol? Good luck with your husbands phone.
OK, I did the water test for the phone and I KNOW HOT TO FIX the water damage.
My screen would turn on after tring to dry it out but the touch screen was unresponsive.
1) Do your best to dry it out.
2) Use a hair drier on HIGH to get moisture out.
3) Place in bag of rice for at least 12 hours.
4) Once again use the hair drier to try and get any excess water vapor out.
5) USE A VACUUM CLEANER!!! To suck the water out, make sure you do this for about 5-10 mins. Vacuum the ENTIRE phone.
This worked fine for me.
I hope it works for you guys!!!
Please click thanks if I helped!
I was making a video trying to do a prank on my friend, and it just slipped out of my hands. It was in there for around 5 seconds and was completely soaked. I put it in a bag with rice, but that's pretty much all i know how to do.
Is there any other things I should be doing to make the phone dryer?

You may get it done using a hair dryer, using caution though, but it will still have internal water present, best would be to get a ziplock bag, 1/2 full of white rice....place the phone in there for 24-48hrs, it will absorb pretty much all the moisture. time will be the issue...
do not rush it.
Well...just leave it in for a few DAYS and hope for the best...not one day but a FEW...just cause it appears to be dry doesn't mean everything inside is dry yet
Good luck

The best option is to go ahead and diassemble it and clean everything with high grade Isopropal alcohol. Even if it's not 100% alcohol it's better than the water thats in there. Also, tap water has chemicals and minerals in it that will stay behind when the water is gone that will short out all kinds of things on the boards. These need to be rinsed off so that when you do energize it, no harm will be done. No way would I allow it to dry without flushing everything first.
Do the rice trick first. Make sure you wait 48hrs at least before power-on. If that doesnt work you will have to try taking it apart.
I left my s2 hanging on a heater vent for the whole night a year ago when that happened to me. I dropped it in a sugary drink so it was worse , had to wash the charging port with distilled water before hanging it on the vent. Another time I had my phone in my pocket while walked into the ocean on the beach, that phone was a goner for obvious reasons.

I have done this with two different phones (a Nokia N95 I dropped in a cup of coffee and an Inspire 4G on a pool) and got life from the phones for a couple of years after it happened, basically they keep working until I replaced them.
Remove the battery immediately, go and buy distilled water and submerge the phone to flush the impurities that got into the phone; for the N95 I dropped in coffee I repeated the process about 5 times until the water was clear, the one in the pool just a couple of times.
Rinse it, do not use a hairdryer as the heat can losen some stuff inside, put it on rice for as long as you can (I waited a full week).
Done!, YMMV but this was my solution to flush impurities without disassembling the phone.
I hope it helps, good luck.
i have used 98% alcohol to flush out any water because it doesn't attract any electricity. then i put it in a bag of rice for 1 day and it worked. (so to speak you and still use the phone when submerged under the alcohol. i made a video of it with an older flip phone)

Like everybody else is saying take the battery out, and put the phone, and the battery in a bag full of rice. Wait 3-4 days and it should work. A hair dryer alongside that may not be a bad idea, and if u ever get it working, u might want to look into getting a case.

I agree. Not sure I would want it up against my face again even if its completely cleaned.
You know what's annoying?
It's when your non-technical friend on Facebook asks the public for assistance when they get their phone wet.
And you tell them to leave it in a bag of rice for 48 hours.
So they leave it in for 12 hours and then say everything is fine because it turns on now.
Ummh, hello. The 48 hours is not simply to get your phone to a point where it turns on. It's also to get as much of the remaining moisture out as possible, because EVENTUALLY the rest of the water is going to start corroding the phone internals and cause flakey problems down the road.
Sorry OP, I just found your thread a perfect opportunity to give a mini-rant.
ps. If it were my phone, I'd first do an isophrophy bath.
Place it in the microwave.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not but that is _not_ helpful, and if it isnt obvious do NOT ever do that with anything metal. I know I'm new here but serious replies only please FFS. I know plenty of people that have done this and the rice trick (with alcohol or distilled water flush as recommend previously in the thread if necessary) will work if anything does. Time and patience!

I was joking btw. I never said to turn the microwave on, I just said to place it in the microwave..
You could just take out the battery and make sure it is completely dry. Then you could get a hair dryer and if it has a cool button, you could try that. or a can of air or an air compressor..
It just takes time.. let it sit there for a week and then try it.. If it doesn't work, then maybe you should get one of those lifeproof cases.. would've saved you on this one..
Heh alright fair enough. I read it and said out loud WTF? but yes, my friends are terrible with their phones I dont know why. Good luck with your phone OP, let us know how it works out for you.

Well poo. I thought water resistant meant I could wash my phone off in my sink. So I did exactly what I had done on previous occasion and quickly rinsed it off and wiped it off with a paper towel (micro fiber cloth? I have gorilla glass, aint no body got time for that!) . I turned my phone on and noticed then water had gotten into my screen and touch was not working so I tried to just it off and it bootlooped. The screen is blank now so either it's stopped bootlooping or the LCD or LCD connector is fried, probably the latter. What's worse, if the manufacturer warrenty covers this (probably not) it doesn't on my phone because I unlocked my bootloader and was kinda proud of the warning so I never removed it. So the moral of the story: remove any evidence possible as soon as possible that you are rooted and/or have an unlocked bootloader, and try not to get a water resistant phone wet. Well, 4 weeks until I get enough money from mowing to get it from boost again.
Lol the Moto E is not water resistant, it's splash resistant (that's why the mic and the jack are at the back). Or at least that's what I've read.
Just plain foolishness...
Why didn't you just use a cloth instead? You would only need to lightly dab the cleaning cloth in water, not the entire phone.

Wait, my moto hasn't given up on me! I pulled it out of the rice (without much optimism) and turned it on. The display worked but touch didn't. I tried rebooting and touch works! There is some cosmetic damage underneath the the screen but it might just be moister that is still trapped underneath the screen that will dry out with rice and time.
Which leads me to my question, do you suggest I open it up so is can dry? I would have done or already if there were screws but I have to lift the screen. Also of the answer is yes what can I use?
