Hi Everyone,
I'm just received my AT&T Nexus one last night. I'm upgrading from a Touch Pro 2 and was excited to try Android. However, I have already encountered a very troublesome and annoying issue with the phone. After setting the phone up with my Google account I proceeded to start to become familiar with the phone and programs on it. One of the applications I was interested in using was Google Maps and navigation. I opened the application and browsed around the map for about 30 seconds until the phone spontaneously rebooted - showing the 4 color X logo for about 2 minutes and then continuing to boot into the operating system. I wasn't sure what happened so I tried to continue using the phone as usual, but this quickly became rather frustrating.
I had been able to use all the other applications on the phone without any issues. However, any time I opened the Maps application for about 30 seconds or so the phone would reboot. Sometimes it would come back into the operating system but other times it would sit at the 4 color X screen for at least 5 minutes before I pulled the battery to reset the phone. After this happening a few times I decided to try a factory reset on the device. Again, after this had finished and I used the maps application the phone rebooted after about 30 seconds of use.
This morning I was hoping my luck had changed and I wanted to see how the navigation application worked. I set the phone up to navigate to my workplace and began my drive. However, as I feared, the phone promptly rebooted after about 30 seconds of use (those 30 seconds seemed promising, if I could actually use the phone). The operating system came back up and I decided to give it another shot. Unsurprisingly, the phone once again rebooted after about 30 seconds of maps/navigation use. Even more frustrating, upon reboot the connection to the cellular network does not always come back online. Sometimes turning off the phone and turning it back on again works but other times I have to power off the phone, pull the battery and SIM for at least a minute, and try again.
This problem is extremely frustrating since the rest of the phone seems to work properly. I can use all of the other applications, send email, SMS, make calls - all the other things I would want to do on the phone. However, the maps and navigation feature was a huge draw for me to this phone and I am very frustrated that it is not working properly. While trying to figure this issue out I have already done 4 factory resets and even tried using the maps application before setting up my Google account, but I have not been able to find anything to keep the phone stable while using maps/GPS.
As of right now the phone is sitting back in the box ready to be shipped to Google/HTC/whoever support (if they ever get back to me). This is one of the most frustrating experiences I've had with a phone, and coming from a Windows Mobile user that's saying something. I tried to do a lot of searching online but couldn't find anyone else who had the same kind of problem that I was reporting. I have two friends who also own N1's (on Tmobile) and they have had nothing but great experiences with them. Does anyone know of what could be causing this issue and any way to fix it?
Thanks in advance!
That is crazy! Sounds like a bad lemmon... more likely the maps program didn't install correctly when it was flashed at the factory... have you tried using it with GPS turned off? This would isolate the issue to whether it is the maps app, or the GPS unit itself.
In either case, I would have the phone warranty swapped. Even if you could just re-install Google Maps, and it would be fixed, I would still be worried it was something more substantial. If you wouldn't be worried, and a re-install of google maps fixes it and that is good for you, there are places to get the .apk for google maps. I am at work, so no link is possible to a download for the google maps app on my end right now.
I agree that there is probably something wrong with the hardware. I did notice that there was a maps update available in the marketplace (sometime between the 2nd and 4th factory resets) but upgrading didn't seem to make a difference. I have contacted both Google and HTC support hoping that they will offer me a replacement device. However, I'm worried that the US holiday on Monday may slow my progress on the issue.
Thanks for the tips anyway!
Welcome! I would just demand that they declare it Dead On Arrival... that way they will ship you a brand new unit, then you return yours in the pre-paid packaging they send you. You probably won't get it until Tuesday/Wednesday because of the holiday.
My Omnia 7 is stuck in loop boot :|
I have tried everything from hard resetting phone, to flashing custom/earlier roms, but whatever I do, I always get stuck at "Samsung Omnia 7" splash screen.
Does anyone know what else could I try?
PS: I do not have official Samsung support in my country.
Same happened to me when i flashed mi7rom v2 .
Stuck :/ Would appreciate any help
Edit: Fixed after I took out the battery a few times xD

Trust me... I tried more than few times
I have exactly the same problem, but the phone recovers after a while and Windows Phone loads properly, just to crash and boot loop again after using it for browsing or gaming for 10 to 15 minutes.
It is very annoying and I don't believe it is a software related problem to be honest.
Since I've 8 months of warranty left on the phone, it's been sent to the official Samsung Repair Center for the Benelux region: Dynafix.
That name alone made me shiver... And rightly so.
The first time it was sent to them, they flashed it with 7.0.7392.0 and returned it to me. Yes... It didn't get stuck in the boot loop.
I setup the phone again and hook it to Microsoft Zune for restoring pictures, music etc.
Of course Zune pushes the updates to the device as well: they crash one after the other on "Step X of Y: Restarting your phone..."
The phone enters a boot loop for several minutes and then recovers, installs the update (download mode of the phone) and loads WP after again... a few minutes of crash boot looping.
In the end, I manage to get the latest version on it, but it went from looping to freezing for 1h17m before I removed the battery and unplugged the USB cable as the phone and battery become warm, if not hot.
In the end, the phone remains only usable for about 15 minutes and then crashes. Playing Infinte Flight makes the bottom back side of the board where the battery is located burning hot. My brother, who has the same phone and plays the same game doesn't have this issue of warm device at all. It gets a little warmer, but far below what mine produces as heat.
So I sent it a second time to Dynafix, asking for a proper examination of the phone, especially the hardware. They simply flash it again and returned it. Of course the same story repeats.
I went back for a 3rd time. They don't accept it anymore. They flashed, and I quote: "the latest stable release for your device" and I should NOT update it with UNOFFICIAL Zune updates. It's my fault that the phone fails.
I strongly disagreed and stated that some of the apps I bought in the Market need these updates. They bluntly say and I quote "should not have installed unsupported 3rd party software" from the Market. Even Microsoft Photosynth, Microsoft SkyDrive are thus unsupported application...
I am outraged by the so called "service" and "repair" that I'm really considering sending a letter to Samsung's HQ packed in a box together with my phone requiring a proper repair or a replacement!
Hey guys! I've seen a few threads on this exact issue, but I haven't been able to find any real advice. So a few days ago I updated my Moto X Pure to the newest security patch. A day later the nav keys started to not respond to touch. Occasionally they work but most times they don't. Is anyone having this same problem? Do you know a fix? Thanks!

Did you factory reset? It is not the optimal solution as it takes time, but a reset dues fix the majority of issues phones have after an OTA. If you still have problems after this report back. I did the factory reset immediately after the latest OTA and had no issues. Android practically restored nearly everything app wise. All I had to do was wait it out.
FR does not work
I have the same problem, just did a factory reset but still not working, is weird to find out that is not a touch "hardware" fault, since I got into the configuration I am able to tap the next and backs buttons also the mic icon and camera works in the locked screen, the problem is only in the "Home bar" or soft key bar i don`t know the name. If someone had a solution please share.
I am also having same problem in my moto x style..

I am also having same problem. So I take my phone to moto services centre but they are also failed to resolve this problem..
Hey! So, give this a try:
Install Nova launcher, then on the home screen long press and click widgets. In the widgets section, at the top there should be an option called "Activites" long press and put that on the home screen, then it should ask you which activity. scroll to the "S" section, and select "Setup wizard" and then select "SetupWizardTestActivity".
Once that wizard is set as a widget, click the widget and go through the wizard again, and see if that does it. It did it for me, on many occasions haha
Hi, I am also facing this issue. I did the Nova launcher steps, and it worked for couple of days. Then, the same issue happened. I did factory reset of my phone and now i can't configure the phone as I can't get past the wifi selection screen. Stuck with this.

As in you're stuck in the setup wizard? Do you have root by chance?
I'm having the same problem, nothing works :crying:
So it is not just me, wow!
2 days ago my touchscreen started acting out, now I have a deadzone at the navigation bar. I've been using my phone upside down, if anyone has been through this and fixed it please let me know.
Guess what!
I just did a downgrade using ADT so I flashed my Moto X Pure to Lolipop to validate my theory but no success.
I can said that the touching problem is a hardware issue and not a software like I was thinking.
Why is this happening, IDK but let me ask you if you did the same "ordinary behaviour" like me.
The day my Moto X starts to get like crazy getting ghost touchings and ghost slidings I was having my cellphone in my back pocket and driving my motorcycle mid trip 3-4 hours.
When I took my phone out to take some pictures I got a hot phone and the touchy doing crazy ghosty responses.
I turned the phone off but when I restarted like a minute after the ghosty touching was persistent, turned off the phone again and like an hour latter turned on, no more ghosty touches but the softkeys ( back, home, tasks) stopped working.
I read before that for some tablets this is caused by the protection case and they removed the case and worked again, well is not my case since I have not any case attached to my phone, but seems to be some bad pressure in some part that damage the touch area.
Please share your comments if you applied some pressure like me sitting in the phone, for me is a "ordinary behavior" (having my phone in my levi's rear pocket) but for Motorola seems too much.
this happened to my phone as well "After a Security Patch Update thru OTA" and navbar stopped working the Other Day and I guess we shall wait for the Next update to by MOTO "ANDROID NAUGAT 7". but for Now I use simple Control navbar from Play store Until The OTA update fix the problem.
on Lock screen mic and Camera shortcut works Properly so is the software issue....
I'm trying help my friend with her Moto X Style. It has the same problem and I could test the screen with a screen tester. And works fine all touchscreen. Apears that programing for buttons was missing.

Just happened to me as well with a Moto X Pure - was driving in my car, security updated...buttons stopped working and have found zero way to get them back. They work when you flip the phone upside down, also work when the phone is locked to drag the camera or microphone shortcuts up, they just dont work on the 200x1080 pixel bar across the bottom.
-Uninstalled all "Screen Overlay" apps - nothing
-Boot to recovery and wiped cache partition - nothing
-Factory Reset the phone with Auto Restore - nothing
-Factory Reset with NO Auto Restore - nothing
-Factory Reset and 100% setup as a new device - nothing.
I cant believe there is no fix for this yet? How can a company rollout a security update that for the most part makes the phone very unuseable, cant even seem to see that they have addressed this.
No issues with mine and I am running the Dec patch.
Almost sounds like it was a corrupted OTA release. It could have been a server issue or whatnot. Call Lenovo/Moto support of the touchscreen is working in the navbar area but the navbar itself isn't. It is worth a try even if out of warranty. The worst they can say is they can't help.

I installed a custom ROM with your OWN buttons and saved that device.
I Installed a Resurrection Remix on her Moto X Style, the battery sucks, but the device is working.

Nope, so far there is no video you youtube, no actual fix on any forums or no actual working solution whatsoever. This is ****ing pathetic, Motorola a Fortune 100 company released a security patch that clearly effected a small percentage of their phones. They have not addressed it or even offered to rush another patch that ADDS BACK IN THE PROGRAMMING for the 200x1080 bottom bar.
That is the problem, someone on a thread I found had dissected the patch, and the line for "Program; TouchPoints x200x1080 were just missing"
With this being more than just a few hundred phones, one would think they would actually try to assist. NOPE
Currently using a SoftKey App on the side of my screen, never buying motorola again after this type of blatant disregard for customer support.

Same problem here. Today morning, my 2015 Moto X Style just stopped working (the buttons). I did not do any update or install anything. So I do not really understand what you talk about here - it was an automatic whatever from Motorola that broke all the phones? That's ridiculous! Like a virus
I'm using the old Android Lollipop BTW - anyone knows if this issue remains on the new system? I never update due to serious slow down after it. Both Google and Apple are complete assholes when it comes to updates. So I've just been ignoring their "brand new awesome cool all is gonna work releases"
I've been a proud Moto user for years now. This is just unacceptable. They're gonna loose big with this one.
If you would do a factory reset after flashing the newest major rom releases it would be plenty fast.
Since about July 2017 my G-900v has gone bad and gets stuck on the Verizon loading screen. I am talking this has been at least 4 times. This last time yesterday a factory reset would not get it going again and I had to find a firmware (G900VVRS2DQA1_G900VVZW2DQA1_G900VVRS2DQA1_HOME) and load that with Odin. Admittedly it really seems to be working better than before and I think it was running the previous firmware when it was freezing up. Was there known issues with the other firmware? I am not certain what the build version was.
I have 2 batteries and have tried both during the freeze up. Neither make a difference. And the freeze up always happens at night during charging. After the update earlier this year it was prone to sudden reboots and applications stopped working errors. Also the emoji icons had stopped working and would cause keyboard crashes on all keyboard apps. Can having a large amount of photos saved on the SD card lead to such issues?
What is the best known way to back up and restore my handset if this continues to happen? I am tired of having to DL and customize my apps every time this happens.
Some but not all of my apps
Go SMS Pro
My Work Clock
Instagram
FB Messenger
Facebook
SnapChat
C4Yourself
DoubleMaps
Beautiful Widgets
SeekDroid

LookOut Mobile

What default apps should I disable?
Thanks for any help or insight on this.
Do you have the link to the firmware you used? Mine is stuck on the Verizon logo screen after doing a factory reset and I want to flash a good stock firmware on it via Odin.
Pretty sure it was from here.
https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-G900V/region/VZW/
I followed the guide here http://www.**********.com/install-stock-android-6-0-1-marshmallow-on-verizon-galaxy-s5-sm-g900v/
There WERE bugs in the Samsung keyboard back in the day, that have supposedly been patched up in recent times. Depending on the age of the installed firmware, it could be an issue.
I got myself a Lumia 950 XL to play with W10M - even though the support has ended couple days ago. I got it with a docking station to connect it to a screen, keyboard and mouse and use it's Continuum functionality, which would be a great help in my cluttered workspace I have at home. Lastly - this phone is to serve me as a backup in case I broke my main one.
Now, what's the problem: the phone is working fine on it's own, the problem begins when I try installing the updates - MS said that they do not plan to remove the updates from their servers and they really are still there for me to download them. I do download them, they install themselves, but when the phone restarts and those gears appear, after about a minute or so - a sad face ( ) appears and the phone falls into loop - it restarts itself, gears appear again and then a sad face. Restart and repeat.
I managed to restore the phone by using Windows Device Recovery Tool (even though the phone was recognised as Lumia BootMGR) and tried again. Once again, the same situation. So, WDRT again and phone is working again.
There are three major updates to install on the phone - the 1607, the 1703 and 1709 ones. I got it to install the 1703 once, but the sad face appear during the installation of the 1709 one. I also tried installing the updates by using OverTheCable updater, but all it does is downloading the updates to PC and then transferring them to the phone - ofc, same result - brick, WDRT, working phone.
Does anyone have any idea what can one do in this situation? I cannot cancel downloading those updates since the phone is connected to the WiFi and I want to have the latest ones installed on the device and be done with them.
