i have a family friend that had a close family member die recently two weeks before his wedding. his phone (a stock Verizon Galaxy S5) is locked with a PIN and Backup PIN (which no one knows) there was no SD card in it. they believe it is attached to a secondary Google account which they don't know either so Android Device Manager isn't helpful. does anyone know of any way to flash it with a custom recovery tool so i can at least get his pictures off of it? That's all his fiance wants, the many pictures that he took of the two before his passing.
I have tried using Odin to flash CWM and TWP but both of those fail and from what i have found i believe it is because Verizon has a locked ROM but i am not completely sure about that fact. I have also tried using ADB but USB debugging is probably not on because i cant get it to recognize it. they tried calling Samsung, Google and Verizon before contacting me, all said they wouldn't/couldn't help.
i have tried for a while now and am out of ideas, any useful suggestions would be gratefully appreciated by all.
Thanks
Hi folks, I'm not a newbie to android nor to Samsung phones and I guess I'm a geek with Windows OS. My S5 SM- G900F which is on stock Android M 6.0.1 has started to report my external Fat32 2gb hard drive as corrupt/Unknown file system when I know it's not as both my S5-G900A and A10-70F tablet read it perfectly. This is the third time this had happen now. It happen twice before ,once on kitkat and then again on Lollipop. I have done a complete diagnostics test on the hard drive on my win7 64 bit laptop using specialised software ( I work as an IT/network consultant part-time). I have tried to figure out why this should happen or what is causing it but I am at a loss. Both S5s have the same apps although the 900A is stuck on AT&T version of Android. Anyone else have this issue and anyone got an idea what's going on. I've done rooting in past and also created my own custom version of Android on my old S3 a few years back so know my way around Android OS. Thanks in advance.
I have been going nuts as of late trying to figure what happened with my Moto G4+. It was working fine, could connect to my pc no problem, then all of a sudden out of the blue, nothing. It only connects as a charger. I've checked it with different USB cables, different ports, even 3 different computers. Still will only connect as a charger. I've even tried it in recovery mode, still not recognized by any computer. I have not restored the phone as of yet due to a ton of pictures and whatsapp chats that I need to save. I have installed Xender to start to move some stuff off the phone, but I'm not too sure that a factory restore would help this. I have read that it could be a USB issue with the phone, either the port or the chip it uses itself. While I know I can replace the port, the chip is beyond what I have equipment for. I have turned on developer mode, and its set the USB mode to MTP by default, I've tried changing it to PTP as well, but the phone will only charge and is never recognized by the pc. All software and drivers have been updated, uninstalled thoroughly, reinstalled multiple times to no avail.
Is there any chance that this IS some form of software thing? Or am i just going to have to use the Zender app to move things between my phone and pc from now on. Until I can possibly send it off to Lenovo since it IS under warranty.
Any help is appreciated.
Just got off the phone with Lenovo/Motorola, and they are giving me the option that I wasn't wanting to hear, do a complete factory reset on the phone after removing the account information from the phone. Gee, that's what I was trying to avoid. Looks like I'll have to figure a way to completely back up the phone via wireless and hope I can save all my data needed to restore it later.
Will be trying the factory reset, but I'm not feeling very good about this at the moment. Will update later when I can get this done. But in the meantime, please suggestions.
Thank you again.
Provide some more info about what ROM you're running, etc... The more info you can provide about your situation, the more likely you're gonna be helped.
What ROM:
Stock? If so, what version and security patch?
Custom ROM? If so, which one and build date..?
I also have the xt1644 and don't have any issues whatsoever connecting to my Laptop, granted I run Linux on my personal PC. I also have zero trouble connecting to the PC's at my work which all run Windoze.
You mentioned you've tried connecting to your PC thru Recovery, so I would have to assume you have TWRP installed, no? If so, which version and by whom?
I'm running full stock room, no mods, build NJPS25.93-14-4, security patch of March 1, 2017. As for the recovery mode, that was the stock recover/bootloader. To where it should be raw adp mode. Even in that mode it is never seen by the computers I've tried. I can't install the newest security update because it won't mount internal nor external memory. I'm at work at the moment and if you need any more information, please let me know.
Thank you

Did the factory reset work? As I'm suffering from a similar problem
Have not done the reset yet, still finding the best way to back up everything, plus finding the time. Will be doing it sometime this weekend though
I just did the compete factory reset, and as i feared, it made no difference. So all my data is gone (saved what I could) and will have to figure a way to get a backup phone working while I have to send off the phone for repair. At least it's under warranty.
I have the same problem. I didn't do the factory reset (yet), but you confirmed my fear, the factory reset won't fix it. Too bad my phone isn't under warranty anymore.
Did you send it for repair?
What was the problem after all?
My XT1640 seems to be falling apart. Bluetooth stoped working out of the blue. Can't read SD card anymore and now USB connection isn't working.
My apologies for not doing a follow up post. I was able to send it back to Lenovo and the replaced the phone so it's back up and running fine. If it's out of warranty, then I'm not sure what avenue you can take aside from maybe finding one that's got severe screen damage but a good non blacklisted board and change it out. Aside from that, I can't tell you what they found wrong with it. I would assume the usb chip may have gone out, but without knowing the fate of my original phone, I can't say.
Hello All,
I have a Galaxy S5 that I must keep encrypted because it is a work phone and my workplace requires that it be encrypted.
I recently tried to add an SD Card (tried 3 different sizes and 3 different brands) and got the dreaded cannot mount cannot encrypt error loop.
I searched the net and found numerous complaints that all seem to point to the Android OS rather than a specific phone. I am using 6.0.1 on my phone.
I did not find any solution posted anywhere.
I am wondering though, has anyone tried to decrypt the phone, unlock the screen, add the sd card, then re-lock the screen, and re-encypt the phone ?
I did not see anyone post anywhere that they tried this.
Any helpful hints appreciated.
It Is Not Fixed
I have tried every method I have found from searches including ones from later Samsung unit forums and none of them work.
The only thing I have not tried is factory reset because it is a work phone and it will blow away all of the work apps and getting them restored will take weeks.
I cannot even try to decrypt the phone because it is Marshmallow 6.0.1 and decrypt does not work. You have to factory reset the phone to start all over.
I have decided to leave the micro sd card in the phone in the hopes that next OTA update will see it and apply some fix to allow it to work.
This Encyption stuff is really a doomsday. I have an identical phone slightly older but still a Samsung Galaxy S5 with Marshmallow 6.0.1 unencrypted and it takes the micro SD card with no problems and works great.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ENCRYPT YOUR PHONE, JUST DO NOT!!!
The encryption does not really work anyway. If you connect your phone to a pc and enter your password for the lock screen, all of your internal files are visible once you tap file transfer from the notification pull down.
So encryption does nothing beyond the lock screen. If someone can bust your lock screen password, they've got everything.
I have an Axon 7 128Gb which some years back I flashed to Android 8. It was all a bit hit and miss but it worked fine. Then I upgraded the phone and this has sat in my drawer for a while so I thought I'd try to sell it on eBay.
I tried a factory reset and now I'm stuck.
I think it's called the FRP loop. It wants a Google account which was previously used on the phone but just loops when I give it one.
It isn't recognised when I attach to my computer.
I have searched and I found loads of ideas but nothing yet has fixed it.
The boot screen is unlocked so I can load something from SD card but I really need some help with what to load - a link would do.
Would appreciate it if someone could respond - but please bear in mind I am not experienced at this (but always willing to learn!!)
