Alright... before the huge amounts of responses and memes responses, let's make something clear:
This is the US version purchased from amazon.com during a trip to the US.
I have a mobilicity (Canada) SIM in my phone
Still no update
The only thing I imagine is blocking my update is my IP address/GPS location or my carrier sim card.
- Does anybody know how to bypass this check? or fool the phone to think i am in the US? I am not really into rooting this phone or losing the warranty on it.
- Anyone with a US version in Canada who received the OTA? what carrier are you using?
Thanks in advance.
Motorola is releasing the update in batches, so not even all US phones have officially received the update yet. You can update your's immediately by following these steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/lollipop-moto-g-2014-xt1064-t2937361

it's been more than almost a month. I thought everybody in a US MotoG in the US had their update already. Anyone in the US that has NOT gotten the update?

I do not. 2014 Moto G single SIM US Market GSM model purchased at Best Buy in Denver. No OTA and no update available via the Moto Device Manager software.
EDIT: There are some Moto comments in this thread saying they're still working on L so it seems they pulled the full update: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/6168839e0e?commentId=838808#838808

Same boat here: Moto G XT1064 (USA GSM, Unlocked, Carrier-independent) bought from Amazon in early November, still no Lollipop update for me, also checked OT and via Motorola Device Manager. Apparently Moto has pulled the update to fix some bugs, but they've done a TERRIBLE job of messaging this. They have an "official blog" which trumpets the launch of Lollipop but no mention anywhere, on any of their support pages or their blog, that this update has been shelved to fix some bugs. I'm fine with that, but I need to *know* that's what's happening rather than just sitting around pushing update and wondering why my phone still hasn't gotten the update yet.
Moto needs to better message this stuff so that we don't have to hunt through forums to find answers to our questions. I even contacted Motorola support a few days ago and they didn't mention a word of this, so it almost seems like the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. Either way, this has been a really disappointing rollout

interesting. I too believe that is OK if they had to pull it... but had i known they had done this I wouldn't have checked every day like a maniac hoping to get the OTA.
what you mean OT and via Motorola Device Manager. I tried using the MDM but it never detected my device. When i plug it in, windows 8.1 detects it as XT1064 and i am able to access the memory card, etc. But MDM did not see the device. I read somewhere that this happens if its not supported.
how did you get MDM to work with your device?
What you mean by OT? did you mean OT"A"?
Hello!
I just got my Nexus 6P and am loving it so far, really a great phone coming from iPhone.
Located in Canada, I know my options are quite limited when it comes to mobile payments with the phone.
It seems that the Big Three (TELUS, Rogers, Bell carriers) got together to create a service called suretap (suretap . com)
On the suretap website it says that the phone must have NFC support (check!), and I must have an NFC SIM card. Now before I go out and buy one, I am wondering if anyone knows if the 6P is compatible with these NFC sim cards, basically with a secure element in them?
I was reading that the Nexus 4/5 are not supporting because they cannot store information on the SIM (hardware limitation) and I wonder if it is the same on the 6P?
On the suretap website they have a list of supported phones, none of which are the 6P, but it could be that they just didn't update the website yet since the phone did recently get released. Here is the list...
BlackBerry Classic
BlackBerry Q5
BlackBerry Q10
BlackBerry Z10
BlackBerry Z30
HTC M7
HTC M9
LG G4
LG Optimus G2
Samsung Galaxy Alpha
Samsung Galaxy Core LTE
Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Samsung Galaxy Note 5
Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S5
Samsung Galaxy S5 Active
Samsung Galaxy S6
Samsung Galaxy S6 edge
Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+
Samsung Grand Prime
Sony Xperia Z3

Bank support of phones in Canada is a HUGE joke. Suretap, UGO, whatever, barely anything works unless you have the unholy trifecta of a bank, carrier and phone that work together.
NO phone will work that isn't on one of those lists. And as you can see, the pretty much only bother with Samsung phones. Why isn't the Xperia Z1, Z2 or Z5 on there? Why isn't the LG G3 on there but the G2 and G4 are? And in many cases, even if you do have a phone on that list, it'll probably still not work for some reason they can't explain. Read the reviews of Suretap and UGO Wallet on the play store. I fought with UGO for months getting my Z2 and Z3 to work, and never did. Required about half a dozen calls to my BANK to get the process restarted when it got messed up over and over. Z2 used to be on the list, then they took it off when they realized it never worked.
In case you're wondering, in order for a phone to be added to the Suretap or UGO lists, the carriers have to test and certify it and nobody knows who chooses which phones get certified.
Anyway, RBC has an HCE mobile payment (no NFC SIM needed) solution that worked great on Lollipop. For some reason it's not working on Marshmallow but they're aware of it and are fixing it. So in the meantime, get an RBC Visa (not Mastercard) if you want a chance of being able to pay with your Nexus 6P. I'd be amazed if Suretap or UGO ever support the 6P.

Thanks for the response.
Yeah I agree it sure is a mess if any Canadian wants to use their phone to make mobile payments. Shortly after posting this AM I discovered that RBC used HCE, something that I think all banks should be using (but i'll save my rant for another day!) and am currently looking into the possibilities of getting an RBC VISA card as well.
I would assume that the 6P is capable of HCE? Are all NFC-enabled Android phones capable of this?
m179
Well, barring any unforeseen complication, yes any NFC enabled phone should work with HCE since it's all software based. The rest of the world uses HCE, it just us slow Canadian banks that use NFC SIMs at all.

Flash the nougat firmware BQA6 as it has different modes built into the firmware including gaming mode!
Is anyone else stuck on the May 1st patch that has the U1 (Unlocked by Sammy)?

Yes and it's utterly pathetic and ridiculous!
Rooted users have July 1 update FFS!
I just want the damn night mode!
My Exynos Note 9 is on June 1 and has it.
It's intolerable, I'm about to throw it in the trash.
My non rooted s10+ has june sp
Mines U2

Still May...
Everyone that has u1 model is still on may security patch unless they manually flashed one of the U firmwares.
Agreed it's totally asinine, I thought in the past unlocked phones were the first to get updates and carriers push them out late. Now it appears to be the other way around which makes no sense.

That would be because you don't have the U1 model which is what op was asking about. Or if you do, then you must have updated via Odin

Samsung does update their unlocked phones last after all of the carriers have signed off on updates. I've been reading complaints about this since Samsung started selling unlocked phones in North America but it's completely deliberate if frustrating.
In the past it was Unlocked then carrier. My understanding was that the carrier models took longer because of all of the bloat they pushed the update had to not interfere with that and it not interfere with the update. Now it has become a pay to play type field where the carriers seem to be saying hey who's more valuable, our 50,000 units or the independents and their 1,200 units?
Anyway on an up note, for those who don't have the update... I know how can that be an up note, but for those who don't have it, there were several articles about glitches with the update. After the phones last reboot it was asking users to input a password, even if none had been set. If one was set it didn't work anymore and I believe the only resolution was a factory reset. No big deal if that was something you planed on doing anyway or if factory resetting worked, which I'm not 100% it did. They quickly halted the roll out and were supposed to be recoding it.

So maybe it's a lucky thing we haven't gotten it yet.
Yep still stuck in May here too. I agree it's frustrating that we're usually months behind on getting new features and always last getting security updates. But I am happy that we didn't get that last update that made people factory reset to get into their phones.
Same here
I actually called Samsung yesterday. Sure enough, they blame it on the carrier.....sad.

You might be thinking of international unlocked models that were purchased for use in the US when you say that in the past Samsung provided updates for unlocked models before carrier updates.
Samsung didn't officially start selling unlocked phones in the United States until a couple years ago (I think with the S8) and it has always been Samsung's policy to update the US unlocked phones after all of the carriers have approved the update.
The unlocked international S10 phones are on the July security patch.
Here in the UK the unlocked models get updated first, then around a week or two later the carriers get it. That's been my experience with my Vodafone version S10+, atm the BTU CSC has the July update but still waiting on mine, doesn't bother me too much tho.

In the US Samsung and Apple have a virtual duopoly thanks to the carriers which might be why those carriers are given priority here--unlocked phones are a tiny segment of the market in this country. Phones from Xiaomi, Huawei and Honor aren't available here except as unlocked imports through the mail with no warranty or support.

Yeh thats a bummer. And some in the US still being on the May update when it's August in a few days isn't good.

Sprint got the june update today
I'm definitely tempted to update to a U firmware instead of using the default unlocked firmware. It is super disappointing to get updates last. It used to be the reason to get unlocked phones...
I am on AT&T and I got the June update either the last week of June or the first week of July I want to say.
My wife's unlocked s8 + already got the July update! My unlocked s10 plus is still on may.
How is this a carrier issue? Samsung seriously needs to address this void.
It's seriously pisses me off that I spent almost $900 on a phone and it hasn't been updated now in over two months. I just checked the settings and it says the phone was last updated on May 29th. That's over two months. if there was a clear guide to follow I would have updated to the AT&t firmware by now but it's been many years since I did anything with Odin and I don't want to risk screwing up my phone....ugh
We need to contact Samsung
I think Sony company should send invitation to come to Japan ?? for those customers who are using their docomo phones in other parts of world and they want to upgrade their phones to latest firmwares but can't just because of that the phone only can be updated in Japan via OTA...
Or they should at least upload OTA firmwares over sony support web. Or do something else so that we could upgrade docomo.
I don't know about Verizon or at&t or others policies in this regard. If these are same they also should send invitations to their respectable and honorable and wise partners which are outside their servers country
I personally think buying a unlocked product which was once bound to a particular network is never ever a good idea and there are number of complications during modification and updates etc. Mistakenly I've bought one but will never repeat that mistake again...
