When I plug my phone into my car for android auto I have to go to USB options and change it from charging to MTP every time. I've gone into developer options and tried changing the default USB action but it never sticks. Does anyone have any ideas?
I noticed that too. I think we are stuck with this behavior.
It's a pain. I just want to plug in and go

Hi,
I have tried searching for answers on this one, but havn't found any.
I don't want my Ameo to come on AT ALL unless I turn it on.
Right now, it comes on when plugged into USB whether the PC is on or not.
This makes charging very slow, as it sits there with the screen on while charging at a trickle.
Many thanks,
James
Hmmm, mine doesn't come out of sleep mode when I plug it in to a USB port, I just tried it. It does wake up when I attach the keyboard.
At least yours is behaving itself. Are you running wm6?
yes, original 7501 rom
My phone just stopped connecting to my computer over USB. I went to update Fission to 1.2.1 and got stuck at trying to actually connect my phone to the computer. USB debugging is enabled and SetCPU is setting the USB charge profile, but I don't get either of the notifications I'm used to, and my computer doesn't register that I plugged it in. Anyone else run into this?
About phone states that the battery is discharging as well. Bad cable? Charges just fine over the other charger I have (dedicated wall charger, so I can't swap cables).

Sometimes its something simple. Are you trying to access your SD card? Make sure your USB sync is on USB Storage.
I get this problem as well. If I reboot my phone a few times it seems to start working again.
Yep, sure enough, after a second reboot it works fine. Thanks.

That was the problem, it never even gave me that option. just didn't register that it was plugged in at all.

Always try a reboot when something goes wrong. Id say 75% of the time it will fix your problem.
Might or might not be related, but...I just recently got a Droid 2 to "play with" and noticed that the internal memory can't be read by Astro File Manager or the stock "File Manager". When I plug the phone to my Mac I can only mount the SD card. I'm still looking at older threads but I figure I ask here just in case.
When I plug my usb cable in the phone beeps as if its charging but no usb icons come up.
usb debugging on is and its set to usb mass storage.
ive tried turning off the settings and then turning them on with it unplugged
any help would be great
Do you have the drivers installed?
Are you plugging your phone in through a USB hub or is it directly plugged in?
Do you have the usb icon in the notification bar at the top of your screen? If so just drag the bar down and click on it. It will ask you if you want to mount the sd card.

What ROM are you running?
I have the same issue. It seems these phones are EXTREMELY picky about what USB cables that you use. I don't have the stock one anymore (damn cat), I have a few LG's and two from a Droid 1. All of them I have to 'wiggle' a little bit to get my computer to see the phone. Please remember not to push or force the cord, otherwise you will snap the charge port.
- Also, yes I get the USB icon
- Yes it is charging
- Yes I have the right drivers installed
Also sometimes I get "this device can preform faster", it just seems to me that the opening for the cable is a odd size and the other non OEM cables do not fit so well.
I have a really weird problem running Windows 8.1 whilst using my Galaxy S 5.
The phone, when plugged into any USB port keeps disconnecting and reconnecting like 2 times a second...
Things I've tried:
1. Different USB cables including USB 2 and USB 3.
2. Different ports.
3. Disabling 'turn off device to save power' in all USB hubs/devices through Device Manager.
4. Using 'High Performance' power mode and ensuring all 'turn off USB devices to save power' options are set to 'No'.
5. Reinstalling the Kies 3 drivers and software.
Here is a video of the issue:

Does anyone else have any ideas? This happens all the time on my laptop...
Yep, happens with mine too, and happens with my nephews S3 too
Also disabled power saving for USB etc
Seems to help if you switch between USB debugging and back again a couple times while it's connected
Is there anything like a proper fix for this? Does the problem stop on Lollipop?
tried a lot
cant connect ....
With the stock charger?
I put the S5 on my trusty 8A 5-port Anker, and immediately noticed this. If you leave the S5 alone, it will settle to constant charging at max amperage, according to Battery Monitor Widget's log.
Nevertheless, I haven't seen such before, not even with my Note 10.1 2014, which uses the same charge mode.

I've been fighting the exact same problem.
While I _believe_ there should be a software solution for this, since it wasn't always a problem, I believe it to be power related and have gone for a hardware solution.
The definitive cure for me (as of this morning) was to purchase an external *powered* USB hub.
(FWIW, an Ativa Mobil IT "Travel" 7-port USB 2.0 hub from Office Depot. And only because that was the only model where it could be tested before purchase without destroying the packaging).
Hello to all.
I am seeking critique and suggestions for my troubleshoot -
Samsung Fascinate rooted running Cyanogenmod 10.1, Developer Options enabled and visible, toggled ON
notification never appears when I plug in USB - phone will charge - that's all.
I suspect the problem is the charging port itself (the physical hardware micro USB) because testing the very same cable with a different device works.
I don't have the menu switch to revoke permissions under developer options, so I deleted
/data/misc/adb/adb_keys
It didn't help. Can anyone think of any other software glitch I might test before jumping off to replacing the charge port?
It just acts like it doesn't know a data cable is present. Thanks!
