I forgot about this Samsung issue - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tell me they fixed this and I dont know how to find it. I left Samsung S5 for Sony Z3 and really enjoyed that phone. One thing it did was time and date stamp on all photos. Please tell me there is a way to enable this on my s6 edge +

[Q] s5 new touchwiz to note 3

Yeah, I just came here to start a poll on this story
IMHO we will get it - I think the original Samsung plan was to release a final 4.4.2 for the Note 3 only AFTER the S5, but the XEO leak might have prompted them to release early (and again IMHO unfinished, but that at least has forced a lot of apps to be updated for 4.4 much earlier, so it will make a much nicer launch for Samsung with the S5).
I hope not. That would hold me back buying the note 3. The New settings...meh

Officially, I don't think we'll get it. Look at the note 2. When the Note 3 released many thought air command would come to the note 2 with the 4.3 update. It turned out not to be so.
Unofficially Air command came to the note 2 before the offiical update arrived.
Which proved the device was more than capable, but Samsung didn't want to jeopardise potential upgraders ,so it wasnt ported.
We'll see though, no one knows for certain. Quite frankly I've been surprised Samsung have shown soo much support for the Note 3 with updates. Hopefully the trend continues.

Note 2 and Note 3 are direct competitors on the same segment of the market which is DEFINED by the SPen (and I would also add here the original Note 8, which has not even got 4.3 but at some point might jump directly on 4.4) - so on all those it is not a surprise that Samsung holds back stuff on the older models in order to sell the newer ones.
However the Note 3 and the S5 are not quite on the same segment.
But in the end you could be right, and Samsung could just slow-down the updates. But they might still need a new set of updates with the new Gear stuff anyway, so we'll probably see more details in 2-3 months.
I hope so. Tired of looking at the same Touchwiz for so long.
I am Aquaman!
i hope they change TW with new one. also i am tired of using the same TW since years.
Ps. as i noticed that galaxy s5 is a bit far from expectations. Personally i got disappointed and happy owned a note 3
note 3 new touchwiz
I do hope they update the note 3 with the new touchwiz please it looks better and refreshing to the users and i think it will be more light than the touchwiz the note 3 has right now hopefully they do update it with the new software s5 has along side with kitkat

Do you think they forgot about that before designing S5's keys? It can be long press multitasking = menu.

Well, actually after MS came out with phone interface in Win 8, making it totally useless for mouse operated computers, KK breaking third party program usage of SD cards and Google maps update getting rid of traffic menu option, the only option I ever use on daily bases, me think everything is possible LOL. So it should be menu key long press brings multitasking on Note 3, I could go with that.
So what happens with S-finder we get now with long press of menu key?

s4 might get some goodies and that too after 6 months but note 3 might not.
We will as the trend for Sammy to update all its devices to the same icons and some other stuff. But as far a full blown version I don't think so

Note tablet is pretty decent the 10.2 2014 Edition. - it's basically a massive Note 3 without the call functions.

[Q] Galaxy S5 or S5+?

Hi,
I'm currently still on the Galaxy S4 i9505, running a ported GPE firmware.
Sadly, Samsung never came through with the Galaxy S5 GPE, so I'll have to make a difficult decision for my next Smartphone.
I was hoping for the new Nexus, but it's just too large for my taste. The Moto X 2014 is a great phone, but the small battery and less than perfect camera are making me a bit reluctant to buy it. Sony Xperia Z3 is a good device, but they have never been the fastest updaters. Also, the Camera on the latest Sony phones is not so great, the sensor might be OK, but Sony kills details with their over-aggressive noise cancelling tech.
So, that leaves me with the "old" Nexus 5 (old processor, small battery and mid-range camera) or one of the Galaxy S5 models.
Now here's my problem: I could get the Galaxy S5 SM-900F, or the S5+ SM-901F. The 901F is the obvious choice, because it comes with the newer Snapdragon 805 SoC. However, I'm not planning on using Touchwiz for more than 5 Minutes, so I need a phone with good CM/ASOP support. I'm a bit scared, that the S5+ will be a "niche" product and won't get many devs. Since Google Play Edition probably won't be happening for the S5 in any of it's shapes, that's my only chance.
Now, what do all of you think?
Do I have a chance with either of the S5 models or should I rather comprmised and go with the Moto X 2014 since that has a clean android interface and will get updated at about the same time as the GPE devices? Might there still be a GPE Galaxy S5? Will Samsung eventually relent and slim down Lollipop and tighten their Update schedule? Rumours point at a 2014 release of Android 5 on the S5 and Note 4, but does that include the new S5+?
Thanks for your ideas!
Get the 901F, I have it for about a month and it's the best phone I have ever used you won't be disappointed
Thanks. I'm not worried about the phone performance, but about dev supporz, from Samsung and from XDA...
Has this been rooted, debloated and/or Cyanogenmodified yet?
Plus is a wasted space tbh. G900F is the way to go in term of develompent. Roms. Programs and so on.

From Samsung, no worry, it will come as for others products.
From devs support here on xda, there's nothing yet:
- root is ok (see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/help/sm-g901f-to-s5-how-to-root-t2882104)
- custom recovery not properly yet (only one chinese version here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55667472&postcount=175)
but it does not support aroma interface
- custom ROM does not exists yet
If you only want custom ROM with S5, choose G900* model but product is not as good as G901F.
If not, best product is G901F but need to wait for Devs.
Best regards
Franky

bear in mind
once you flash cyanogen or anything not touchwiz based. you losed camera functionality. 120fps slow mo and 4k will not be in cyanofgen as the samsung camera app is based on the touchwoiz framework
I can live with losing slow motion and 4k. What I really need is HDR in Google Camera. This is a problem on the S4...do you know how the S5 does here?
I really y hate Samsung for dropping GPE devices, and Google for not making an updated Nexus 5...?

HDR works in google camera. apparently though the quality isnt as good as stock as per usual
well thats what ive heard anyway
personally id rather wait until the camera CM provides can match the stock in terms of modes. or google camera can use extra modes

Well, I'll wait a bit longer, tilp the official Lollipop rollout begins, maybe there will be some surprises. After all, there is that picture of the S5 running stock Android on www.android.com which might mean there is a GPE phone coming...

The problem is some of us dont have a choice, EE is by far best provider in uk and they no longer supply 900f, much of europs is also exclusivy 901f now.

Grace UX has appeared on my Note 5 via OTA (Stock Firmware)

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone has actually noticed this already, or if it's actually a new thing. Long story short, I've been missing the Galaxy Note 7 since returning it to Samsung a few weeks back, and today sprung for a used Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920K) that was actually a decent price and in basically brand new condition. All the more so given that the hardware never even released here in Japan to begin with.
Anyway, after setting up the device, an OTA began to download. The Note 5 was at the time, running 6.0.1 and had the August Android Security Patch installed. The file download was in excess of 600MB however, and I thought something to be odd given that the September and October patches, even together, couldn't be that large. When the phone rebooted, I was absolutely floored to find none other than the Note 7's Grace UX on the phone. This *includes* the Bluelight Filter in Display Settings for reference, something even the S7 Edge has yet to receive.
When I had checked SamMobile earlier, the update details hadn't even been listed in their firmware, making me wonder if this was just released today? For reference it's Baseband Version N920KKKU2CPI1 and Build MMB29K.N920KKKU2CPJ4. Oddly the Kernel Version has a build date of October 24th.
Have I missed something in the past few weeks of Note-worthy news, or is this a major development?
I can take screen captures if anyone wants to see.
Please post screen shots.

This is not a common practice by Samsung, for my experiences with numbers of Samsung flagship models, it doesn't even give a facelift Ui for any of its update firmwares, you want new ui then you have to buy a new device, that's it. !!!
I guess tokyoguy may just be very lucky or Samsung has made a mistake by accident.

Well the thing is that Samsung is currently working on bringing Grace UX to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge via the Nougat update. So in this case the company is clearly intending to port the design changes. What I'm trying to figure out is if (1) there was some kind of mistake and I did, in fact, get lucky, (2) all the Korean carrier variants have had this update pushed to the devices, or (3) this update has been floating around for a few weeks now and just no one mentioned it.

Well it certainly is real, the question is if it's some kind of mistake and I alone got it, or if all the Korean carrier variants are getting it.
Its officially released by samsung as usual they release it for in the home country n later they push in other countries so chill guys all the variants of note 5 will be getting the update
I think the blue light filter is restricted to note after note 7 fiasco samsung is taking more care of their customers
It was posted on Android Development section a week ago, you can even flash in different model.

What about Spen? Any changes? Thanks!
The S-pen settings have been, from what I can tell, changed to those from the Note 7. This means, among other things, that's it's now not possible to modify the sound file played when the stylus is removed or inserted; I never cared for the default option unfortunately.

There is even more I'm sure.
They are not sources, just articles related to the same source already cited here, people from Samsung support center, not the official statement from Samsung.
In this case, seeing is believing. I don't think we'll ever get official statement that Oreo will be supported for S6, it's either it will or it won't, only time will tell. Certainly if it ever comes, it won't be before March or even April.

You are right, they are all using one source, I messed up. Still, they are not saying there's a chance, they are confirming it's gonna happen and they seem confident. I'm sold. If it doesn't happen then I won't consider them a viable source of information anymore.

I'm still not convinced. It might even be that they plan to update it to Oreo, only to be cancelled at some point.

May I know what website is that? Thanks
Although I'm not sure if this is going to be real, it's technically possible. There's a phone called Galaxy A8 2016. Since the 2015 models of Galaxy A Series got Nougat, that device would almost certainly get Oreo, and it has similar specs to the S6 (Exynos 7420, 3GB RAM). It wouldn't be too much of a job for Samsung to support S6 too.
Maybe we could port Oreo from the A8 2016 if Samsung chooses not to push Oreo for S6..
Guys don't be so pessimistic...
The Galaxy S6 is still a very good and strong device. It is a Milestone and it deserves Android 8.0. They are probably updating it to 8.0 because they want to Change their update polity and thats really great. Be happy, at least they consider to update the device and do not cancel the update. They also could have said "No the S6 won't receive 8.0" but they didnt!

Oooo such intresting news about new software update. Galaxy s6 will may get android 8 oreo.
I have a perfect matched gif for this
Why samsung need to waist extra time and resources on a such "failed" device when they already are orientated at quantity instead of software sussport ? Battery is terrible, probably 50% of users already in 1/2 years of use switched to other device, like galaxy s7 or s8 or other one with better battery. Because.. I truly believe a lot of users was like , - pissed of with 3-4 max hours screen on time.
There is no point for them to do this. When they already released a lot of new devices with new android version etc and also with upgrades like biger batterys, galaxy s7 etc. As samsung stated, they provide 2 years of software updates. Thats it. So they what ? Changed theyr update policy somehow ? Where updates then, refreshed policy about this that they changed theyr own rules ? No official news from samsung, nothing.
Samsung turkey, samsung other or else etc.. who cares about them ? Samsung turkey once stated about nougat update when s6 will get and they lied about date when it will release, delayed a lot. And now states about oreo ? Haha.
I dont believe either of them. They just writing what they want witchout any facts or confirms. Again.. - rumors without trusted source.

I don't think that you anything about the S6. Why? Because in your opinion it's a failed device and the S6 is one of the best Galaxys you can buy. It is better/more premium than Galaxy A/J 2016/2017 lines.

Haha! What an ignorant guy. I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 and battery is fine I get 6-8hrs SOT. Don't know what your on about. There is point for them to do this as they wan't to support their devices for more than 2 years to remain competitive with the like of Google and Apple. Yeah Samsung Turkey lied about the date but hey Nougat still came! I think Samsung CS counts as trusted sources, verified by multiple reps in many different countries!

Any news of whether the Galaxy S8 will get the S9 AR Emoji?

No I highly doubt it will. The phones already look so similar, so I'm sure they want to give the consumers a reason to buy the latest Galaxy S9 by adding these features that the S8 won't have. It's quite sad, but you can always expect a range of apps on the Play Store to gimmick that feature and I'm sure custom ROMS will implement it (you'll have to root) in the future once the S9 releases and devs get their hands on the software.
I don't think that S8 will get AR Emoji. But soon we are going to find custom ROMs for it. So just wait and watch.
The aremoji rely on extra sensors the s9/s9+ has an the front the s8 lacks, so it would be impossible or some sort of miracle to get it working on our devices

Im pretty sure there's no extra sensor, we need only the S9 camera app ported to our S8s.

I've had a look into it and Samsung's implementation doesn't use depth sensors as I thought, so my bad, may be it will come or someone port it at some point
any developments on this ?
As far as i know the S9 doesn't have any extra sensors to make it work but it has something to do with a few system files that are on the S9 to make it only work on S9. Eventually someone brilliant will port it over to our G95X devices.
Face unlock
Guys I want to know that does s8 need sensor for facial recognition. If not. Can facial recognition be on s7 edge without smart lock.

hopefully. I would expect that to happen already...
From what some devs have said, some camera functions are directly pulled from the libs, which makes it very hard, whether ar emojis uses this method I have no idea, if it was easily done it probably would have been done by now, even some of the s9 ports have the s8 camera app, maybe a dev figures it out, would be good.
let's wait and see.
nothing yet...
This interview on Android Headlines says that the AR Emojis will work on the S8 and on every other contemporary smartphone

From what i can get out of a friend of my that works at Samsung the S8 and the S8 plus will be getting the AR emojis just in a later update
Samsung need to do something about this ...
Really so the Note will get it too? Cause I'm wanting to upgrade to the 9 plus but husband says no cause we just got our note a few months ago. I'm just not into the note series. But I did go look at a 9 and made AR emojis of myself and then sent them to myself and deleted them off the phone on display. Lol

Feom what i am getting out of my friend it will be coming to S8, S8 Plus, NOTE 8 but i dont know when it is coming out if you dont have the Galaxy note 8 and you are looking at getting a new on you can go for the S9 or S9 Plus my friend cant give me to much info on it the only only thing he cant give me is the update file name and when the update is coming out but from what he has hinted is it maybe coming in the next couple of update
Thanks, I just got my note 8 three months ago should of waited cause yes I really want an s0plus in purple but my Note is fine and fast and I never have to charge my battery at work anymore. It's better than my 7 Edge. I just never use the pen and hate the fingerprint sensor but can live with it if I know we're getting AR Emoji LOL! But that's not the only reason I wanted an S9plus camera intelligent scan and a couple other things. My Note 8 is unlocked so I am still waiting for my Oreo update. But it's good to know we may be getting AR Emoji I hope your friend is right. Thanks Again,
Edit: I just saw an email about the unlocked S8 and + getting Oreo and I clicked on my phone for update and it says I am getting Samsung Experience 9 with Oreo 8.0. My friend on T mobile said she didn't notice anything different. But will see I am installing it now.
