Messed up software (maybe) - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, so I got an s4 GT-I9505 that had a cracked screen so I fixed it.
Phone booted as it should and worked fine for few minutes, then things started to crash (statusbar, touch wiz home), it starts to lag and behave very weird so I decided to do factory reset - same stuff happened.
So I flashed CM12 everything works fine besides the fact I dont have sound.
So I flashed back to stock using odin and pit file, it boots to stock sometimes it has sound and sometimes it doesn't, also it crashes like it used to after few minutes and reboots to bootloop.
I flashed CM12 again so I can use the phone somehow, but whenever I go into the AudioFx app it crashes so do other apps that need sound either crash or lag.
What is the issue? I'd love to stick to stock rom but I cant use it as it keeps crashing.
How do I fix this problem it's important for me to have this phone working.

Did you do full wipe before flashing?and is the screen original or chinese?

Try a custom stock rom.

I don't really know, got it on ebay for 50 pounds. And I did a full wipe using the stock recovery.

Possible loose connection somewhere?

Flash twrp and then wipe all..make wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe system, wipe dalvik cache and wipe data.all these from advanced wipe.then turn off phone and put it in dowload mode.then flash stock rom using odin.this is the cleanest way to flash rom.maybe in system is something from cm and messes up with stock.as for the sound it may be from the screen.some chinese screens make phones lag, even not boot up.

I forgot to add that I get sound at the boot animation but after that no sound at all

I have installed costum rom F14 on the 4.4.2 android version. It makes the modified boot noise and the sound works for for a few minutes, only sometimes but.

Anybody?

[Q] Need help for my Vibrant

Here is the story. I've got my Vibrant as a replacement for my older one two weeks ago. The old one had a problem with Home button responsiveness and at the end I decided to go with replacement. After some testing with identical firmware (freshly flashed) on both phones I found that the the new one boots much faster - around 12 sec difference (the time my audio widget is fully loaded) and overall I was very happy, until today when my phone screen turn of during some work on the browser. The buttons light was on and the screen became black.
1. I did battery pool. First boot was very slow. Force close for some koush process ( probably clockworkmod) came out .
2. I did 'wipe cache' - multiple force close after that
3. Factory reset - it was somewhat booting very slow and I decided to go with Odin.
I was able to put the phone in downloading mode and flash JFD with repartitioning. Everything looked ok during the process, but after reboot it plays Tmobile animation, startup sound, shows the letter S and stucks there.
I am able to get in stock 2e recovery. If I choose reinstall packages it goes to clockworkmod recovery (I thought clockworkrecovery should disappear after flashing with odin, but it is there) I tried flashing different usb ports - no difference.
The phone was with stock JI6 firmware, rooted with OCLF, ROM Manager with clockworkmod installed. Was working fine till today. I didn't experience any lag issues and neither of the lag fixes were installed or tested.
I played with clockworkmod recovery options format: system, data, sdcard.
I was not able to format boot - some error.
I am not a very good writer... sorry if somebody gets upset.
I will appreciate any help or idea.
Thanks
Fix for your problem
Sounds like some of the rom is either corrupted or the factory reset did not have J i-6 in it.......not enough info. Personal message me and i ll help you fix this problem.

[Q] Messed up phone

Hi guys.
So I got a problem. Actually a buch of them, but first things first. So back in March I updated my i9505 to 5.0.1 with Odin and stuff. Later on I decided to root my phone and install some nightly CM12. Everything went pretty well until some weeks ago something started to happen. I got notifications about updates for Android but I wouldn't care as my phone was well, at that time, working extremely well. But then things got really messed up. At first the camera - most of the pictures weren't saving. But that was okay I guess I heard about problems with camera. Though it wasn't the only thing that was messing up. Phone got reeaaaallly slow, lags, apps started to freeze and most important, random reboots and the sound wasn't working. No one could hear me when I was talking with them and I couldn't hear them. That was the most important issue, because everything was fine and then, using the phone casually, the sound went out. I had to restart the phone. With the random reboots 20 times a day, and my intended reboots because of the sound issue, you can tell how mad I was. So I intalled some ROM, Touchwiz 5.0.2 probably (can't remember if it was 5.0.1 or 2, sorry!) with Galaxy S6 features through TWRP (installed a zip). It was even worse. A lot more random reboots, camera not working at all, apps freezing constantly after using them for couple seconds. Can't use my phone anymore, it's unusuable.
No idea what might be the cause. Might be Kernel? You guys have anything to help? Also installed a clean ROM through odin, but it's the same. I lost my root and TWRP recovery.
Well it sounds more like a hardware problem.
You wiped everything before flashing? That is the /system partion and the /data partition.
You can try flashing a stock rom with re-partition and .pit file ( I assume you are familiair how Odin works).
or
Flash TWRP
Perform a full wipe (/data and /system).
Flash a rom you want.
If the problems are still there it's hardware related.

Yes, of course I wiped everything. Common thing to do when installing ROMs.
Weird thing now. So I installed official kernel for the device, via Odin, and then flashed the phone via Odin too with stock ROM. Still don't know much about kernels and stuff, was it necessary to flash that kernel and then flashing ROM, or was only flashing the ROM enough because the kernel comes with it?
Though I gotta say it's kinda better. Sound doesn't just turn off, but there are still a lot random reboots and sometimes the device won't boot up at all. And it's pretty much that now. Most of the apps are working ok, they freeze sometimes though. Oh and rear camera and NFC aren't working. I probably broke them because of the falls the device experienced with me these past few days.
Can you elaborate on Re-partition and *.pit file thing?

When WiFi is turned off I get 'Unfortunately System UI has stopped'

This is on two standard Galaxy S5's, with standard ROM, etc - not rooted, or anything else.
Every time I turn off WiFi, or enable Mobile Hotspot, I get 'Unfortunately System UI has stopped'.
To fix I have to Power off/on the phone.
(Turning on WiFi is no problem, just turning it off.)
I have gone into 'Safe Mode', and same issue, so it looks to not be a bad App.
I have also uninstalled 'Google' updates, and again no change...
Any thoughts?
All of a sudden my S5 showed the exact same error message for no aparent reason... I didn't do anything, and now I can't use my phone at all because of that bug. It happens on every boot so I can't even unlock my phone. Tried reinstalling everything, ROM, recovery, kernel, with/without root = still same, what just happened here??
EDIT: Same thing if I'm in Safe Mode -_-
Seeing noone knows a solution here's what I did yesterday.
1. Backed up all my stuff from internal storage to the sd card
2. Did factory reset in TWRP recovery
3. Flashed completely stock official firmware from Samsung
4. Waited for it to boot up and try to restore some of my settings (it restored all folders on their places, made same amount of home screens as I had before the reinstall and downloaded all of my previously installed apps from the Play Store, ofcourse without the cracked ones, and it also restored most apps' data as well so it's not as bad as you may think to factory reset and reinstall everything)
5. Started rooting, flashing TWRP again, installing Dolby Audio, Xposed and everything I had before, took me one full day to set it up as it was before.
Now when I set it up I always make a nandroid backup from when things are working fine, in case it goes crazy for no reason again... Good luck!
when the wifi radio is acting weird, a dirty flash of your current ROM susually fixes is as its probably a radio issue. Id do that before doing anything drastic like the boot-n-nuke Odin flash and starting from scratch (which will fix that issue)
I don't think I have a ROM issue, as I have two S5's, and both have the same issue... and both are standard ROMs.
I will do a factory re-set on one at some point, but this looks to be a 'simpler' issue.
I have tried a full Cache delete, as well as other 'clean' processes.
Nothing works.
I tried to re-flash my stock ROM as @youdoofus said but still had that annoying popup. Try everything you can think of, if all else fails, reset.

well, you can wipe cache, and dalvik 3x each (not kidding about the 3x each), then dirty flash the rom, pray to the gods of android, reboot. If failure occurs, its Odin Nuke time unless you want to try to flash an individual radio file by itself (not recommended)

Can't boot without wiping cache

Well, let me explain.
I have a SM-G935F, and it was really bad, with apps crashing literally everytime, random reboots and etc.
I've flashed the latest firmware and it works good, but sometimes, the system just power off with no apparent reason, and when it happens the phone just doesnt boot without cleaning the cache.
I have to force shutdown, enter recovery and clear the cache, and then reboots. After that, everything works fine.
But its really annoying and shouldnt be happening.
Any solutions?
Maybe U didnt do it correctly.Do a custom rom or do stock again ...with care...

volume and sound issue

Ever since I got this phone even on stock firmware, if I turn the phone off and then turn back on my volume and sound go away. This is not including reboots. phone works fine after a normal reboot. It is just when I turn it off to charge and then turn back on. So I decided to go ahead and flash havoc ROM and I'm still having the same issues. Anyone else experiencing this?
In order for me to fix this I have to dirty flash the zip again.
Sometimes just accessing twrp I get this issue.
Edit... This is happening on every rom I flash
2 edit... sometimes clearing dalvik and cache brings back sound (while rooted running any ROM) and even on stock firmwares , turning off phone I will eventually have to reboot recovery(stock) and wipe data, dalvik and or cache. Weird issue! Anyone?
