So it looks like our edge phones will start to get new edge features (when marshmallow update arrives) on the back of the yet to be announced S7 edge.
Im due to get my Edge Plus phone this week and wanted to ask whether there are any third party apps offering features for the edge strips of our phones. It currently seems under utilised at the moment.

So when can we expect it for the Verizon Note Edge... it looks Amazing on my note 4 the new features that is !!
Next year. No root and no update is killing me

It's one thing to block root, but this is complete bs that they can legally hold back lollipop.... not mentioning the cool additional features, but the known exploits alone they should have to push lollipop. I hate Verizon, I wish they would steal my unlimited data to give me a reason to jump ship

it's crazy that virtually every other Samsung phone prior to the Note Edge has been granted Lollipop. I just helped a friend of mine with her S4 update yesterday. (a little insulted that she had no idea what she was doing and here my phone is, all wonderful and beautiful but left out lol.) Thankfully I still have both my Note 4 and my S5 so I can switch out at anytime.
I have heard that one of the reasons big red is always slow on updates is for quality control, bugs, etc. Making sure that it's absolutely perfect before rolling it out. But when you go and see that the S5 was first to get Lollipop for the Verizon devices, it makes you think otherwise.

I just ditched my note edge last week because of the lack of accessories and the lack of lollipop I went back to the note 4 it's like there treating this as a limited edition type deal same deal goes for the Galaxy s6 edge

Once I find a buyer for my. I am totally done with samdong. Worst freaking phone I have ever bought..
You guys act surprised. For years anyone on VZW knows we get locked bootloaders and updates are about 6 months to a year behind all other carriers. This should not be a shock to anyone. The Edge is very similar to the Note 4 and if they are rolling out 5.0.1 to the 4, I suspect the edge will be right behind it. At the end of the day, I stay with VZW because they have the best network where I need it.

You can't as of now !!
The title of this thread is misleading
no biggy ...
The Verizon Edge came out some time after the Verizon Note 4, so Lollipop will probably come out that much time later. No big deal.
On another note, I've been shouting this to every end of the Internet, but there is a serious problem with the so-called "Lollipop" update that Samsung has provided to just about all NON-S6/Edge devices, and that is the lack of KEY FEATURES like app pinning and multi-user accounts. HTC, LG and Motorola have provided these features with their Lollipop updates, and they are stock Android Lollipop features. But Samsung as they too-often do, is holding them back from all devices except the Tab S (which is older than the Note 4/Edge) and the S6, and it's pissed me off to no end. There are PLENTY of Samsung features that I'd love to get on my Note 4 and Edge that the S6 has, like themes for example. But I understand that that is a Samsung feature, and so Samsung certainly is within their rights to withhold it to promote the S6. That I get. Those are proprietary Samsung features. But Google Android features, no. They should not be able to keep those from us just for the sake of promoting their S6 when Lollipop supports it out of the box. My Nexus 6 has them and it's the same age as the Note 4. So I don't understand it.
It is very, very, very shady, especially in light of how locked-down their devices are becoming.
That said, some developers are working very hard to get root for the locked-down versions of the Note 4 and Edge, so we have to support their hard work! Keep up the good work, and make sure to press Samsung hard on the shady things they do.
If I knew of a way to let Google know that OEMs shouldn't be stock holding Google features back just for the sake of promoting new devices, I'd do it. Any suggestions would be useful. A petition? I dunno.
Hang in there folks!
I have recently got Note 4 910G. Though I was going to get LG G4, I chose Note 4 due to being familiar with Touchwiz and also using S health app. But the G4 camera is something I sorely miss on Note 4.
So since Lollipop allows manual camera controls, What do you think will we likely see Manual camera controls on Note 4 in future updates (Like in S5 etc). Or is there any custom rom that has these features already??
You will continue to get modified kitkat camera app. No manual mode no 720p slow MO nothing. And for me it's a wrong decision choosing note 4 over g4. Return it if you can and take LG g4 and install s health on it
BTW I only used LG g4 international and it was über. I don't know about carrier specific versions.

Yeah me too also the new camera app, new touchwiz, themes etc... [emoji2] but I think it's normal that they hold these features from a marginally old phone. It's what I would do if I would Samsung, to make customers bug new devices so I can profit. The bad thing is, my device is exynos so no 3rd party development over here.

Except its NOT a marginally old phone. It was thier FLAGSHIP until few months back!! Hey, there's some cool rom in Exynos too. I was a big fan of Wanam light rom on S4 and the sixperience rom looks cool too.
Well I don't like custom roms except cyanogenmod. Because there is always something broken in other stock customized roms so I tend to stay away from them. There is word going around cyanogenmod will support exynos, but we will see.
Good luck with your device mate.

I am considering selling my tmobile s7 edge and get the international one for root. However, I'm a bit scare if the battery life might be worse than the SD model. Plus I'm not sure if I'll be able to utilize the LTE network for TMobile. Can someone shed some light on this?
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
It is better in all ways
The note 5 with the last gen exynos chip was pretty awesome in my opinion.
Just as smooth as the sd s7 edge in my opinion.

The only downsides are the phone-side of the equation: no VOLTE, no wifi calling, no native video calling and a slightly weaker signal. Other than those things, the upsides are faster updates (the S6 t-mobile still doesn't have 6.0), better battery and root.

Ew, AOSP.. never understood folks who have a Samsung and ditch out everything samsung for a stock Android experience. Yeah sure AOSP has A LOT, A LOT of customisation much more than TW. But that's not why I bought a Samsung Galaxy phone for. I bought it for what SAMSUNG has to offer.

Actually, I dont like tons of customization. For me, I prefer the smoothness of AOSP with neat settings design. Not likely, I will go for AOSP on S7e. If you compare the TW on S7e and Note4, Samsung has improved a lot.

That may be why you bought it. However, others buy samsung due to the specs of the device. Not the software. However, to stay on topic you will not be able to flash any custom rom outside of TW based rom since the soc is not open source.
How bad is the signal since I live in a relatively weak signal area
Edit: Sorry im still new to the Android XDA community since I just recently switched over from iOS. What is TW rom? And "soc"?

Nexus devices have good camera
i was owner of Nexus 5, and it has good camera for its time)
Nexus 6P has good cam also+it can make better slow motion videos (240 fps video)
I wasnt happy with Nexus 5 camera at all, it's a reason why I avoided next gen of Nexus phones.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my post. I would like as many replies as possible regarding, what phone is next for you? Reason I am asking is, since the newer Samsung phones are coming out with lock bootloaders. What phones are you all jumping to next so you can still have a rooted phone?

I was thinking about the Note Fe......but for the price I could buy 3 new (ish) Note 3's from eBay, all with removable batteries and sd card slots, which would last me years when each one eventually went bad......possibly the Note 4 but I've done that and the silver bezel finish annoyed me along with the general fragility of the device, plus the screen cancelled out the processor upgrade.......I flit between Temasek's 12.1 and Phronesis Note 7 rom, both of which more than serve my needs. The Note 3 is truly a classic phone in my book ?
What do you think of j7 2016 or j7 2017 or lenovo p2 as replacement ?
Im attracted to theae phones for their battery life. My note 3 battery life is really aweful
