SM-928C Software update release times? - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have seen on sammobile that the SM-928F receive's frequently software updates while the SM-928C doesn't? Why is this? And will the SM-928C support end faster compared to the SM-928F?

I've only ever had 1 update for the SM-928F. Perhaps your looking at the same versions for different countries?

Probably he is. I have a G928F as well (Sweden) and I have got 4 updates since I bought it in total.
November and Dec security updates = 2
End of Oct 1 "big" update on about 200MB and then one in beginning of Dec that was not the security update.
However if I had only got 2 I would not consider my phone worse. Might have just been that the firmware you have is either stable or not used for beta testing other things as they always do it with some.
So not always a down-side.

in my experience, it could be months. As in Q2 2015
Knowing Samsung it might not be till end of summer 2015 (if you are lucky).

There have already been two preview builds for the S5, both shown by Sammobile on YouTube. Which means they are working on it and they're almost there. I would expect an update closer to the end of the year or at the beginning of the next.

Meanwhile, the good people at LG are releasing Lollipop for the LG G3 this week. Samsung is always way too slow with updates, for no acceptable reason.

Android in G3 is not so heavily modified than in Samsung phones. Maybe that's the reason.

Yes they will get it this week, in fact people already have it.

And motorola already released it for the Moto X.

Enough proof for you?
I am pretty confident/optimistic that we will have the update during Nov-Dec, 1-2 months from now
So far we have seen 2 leaks of Lollipop for S5, 1 leak of S4, so imagine at what level the newest flagship of Samsung is
Even more, all companies are promoting fiercely their update plans, so Samsung should be at least worried and thus speed up their game.
Lastly, last year we had the same case as with Note 3, it was released with 4.3 Jellybean and it received the 4.4 Kitkat update in early January.
The best news relateed to this is that Chainfire was able to root Lollipop on the Nexus 9. It is encouraging that if you have an unlocked bootloader, it seems likely that there will be root for Android 5.

Yes, thanks
According to this article it's late November early December.

But I wouldn't hold my breath.
As I mentioned, don't expect anything before a few months. I estimate q2 2015 but this article seems to say February 2015

Are you joking? There are builds for the S5 and the S4, the latter being almost 2 years old now! There is no way the the Note 4 will get an update in "Q2 2015". And the article you linked to has no substantial evidence or insight. On the other hand, we know Note 3 was released with 4.3 and got an update to 4.4 in January, so it's not far fetched to think the Note 4 will be treated the same way.

I hope you are right, but I highly doubt we will get it before end of Q1-2015. Yes there are builds for many phones, but Samsung tends to take their sweet time coming up with a final draft. I suffered plenty with the Note 2 and Note 3 (still on 4.4.2 until now). Maybe the fact that almost every manufacturer other than samsung will have Lollipop before end of the month might make Samsung move faster (but I doubt it, because they know that most of their end users aren't on XDA and don't know lollipop from lollygag).
What's really funny -and to be frank, quite sad- is how we use words like "suffer" when we explain how we feel about waiting for an update. It's a phone. Save your capacity to suffer for things that actually matter.
Maybe Samsung will see this and we'll get the update this week........or in Q4 15[emoji13]

My prediction update starts on 16-Jan-2015

7.1.1 is coming !

Hey everyone
I heard the Android 7.1.1 update for Galaxy S7 & S7 edge is in testing at carriers and is just about to come for us
Anyone heard when exactly ?
The Beta testers will probably get it first. Release date is probably somewhere near february or even march.
I'm starting to seriously doubt if 7.0 will ever come. I rather stick to MM right now as not much dev been going for the Google Pixel.

I'm still running 6.0.1 on AT&T. Why the delay?

Because it is only a beta release and AT&T does not allow betas.
Final version is rumored to be released on February or March, and even then, carrier specific releases will probably take longer.

You wanna bet on that, everyone got it before them last year (S6), Vodafone being first!
am one of the beta testers and we are at update 4 now but still on 7.0
looking good - get ready for some nice surprises
No, the official Nougat will be 7.0. It was announced on Samsung Members here in Korea.

Yeah I saw that, and some beta users here inquired if that is true, only to get answers saying No.
Well I do want to stop getting disappointed at Samsung changing their words(or giving different answers). Hope we can get 7.1.1 ...

Article: list of phones Google regularly updates with security patches

These are the phones that receive regular security patches, according to Google http://news360.com/article/395488795
LG v20 is the only LG phone listed and you'd be surprised on how many phones are actually missing from the list, Nothing from HTC and the only Samsung model is the S7.

Interesting. I am still at Dec 2016, hope will get a patch soon.

My wife's Stylo got the Feb 2017 security patch 3 weeks ago. They support their$175 phones with security better than their $750 phone.

Note 4 has been getting almost regular security patches. I haven't flashed mine up to date as it's a lot of trouble to set mine up between Xposed and code changes but nonetheless it's been somewhat regular. I think I am on may or June 2016 and it is up to February or March at least.
Its quite "complex" because they state it depends on which carrier you are on which patches you get and when. If you buy the phone outright its different again? I would be fascinated how it works. The world of Microsoft Windows, iphones, Pixel & Nexus is so much more simple. I did reach out to LG support no real straight answer.

LG V20™ T-Mobile H918 updates-confirm?

https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-32430 currently lists "Android 7.0 Software version H91810p Available August 7, 2017, Google monthly security update, Various bug fixes and software improvements" while my Nexus 6P lists Android security patch level August 5, 2017, can any updated T-Mobile H918 owners confirm (e.g. in Settings->System->About phone->Software info) their LG V20™ T-Mobile H918 has the August or July Security patch level?
Feel free to also comment if you've noticed any issues (i.e. problems or "improvements") with such updates?
-Thx
Mine shows July security patch.

Appreciate the reply, so I assume you have no regrets choosing it with its recent updates, fully functional Wi-Fi calling..is your updated H918 about as snappy as it was initially?
BTW, do you/anyone expect the H918 will get an official Oreo-Android 8 update?
I think the V20 will get Android 8 but it will be a bit late to the party. If you want Android 8 out of the box you'll likely need a pixel or the V30.
I am finding it so far about the same performance-wise as before. As for wifi calling, I don't make a lot of actual phone calls so I can't speak for hope that's working. But it is showing connected while connected to WiFi.

The V30 specs should be confirmed Thursday but I've read the Pixel 2 devices will more likely be the first with Android 8 out of the box.

The V series is what LG usually uses to experiment with especially with newer versions of Android.
