I successfully installed Safestrap and it never really seemed to work (some ROMs would load and not everything on the phone worked, some ROMs just bootlooped etc.), so I just used stock.
I tried installing a rooted Lollipop stock ROM to a different safestrap partition, and when I restarted the phone Safestrap no longer started up. I could get into download mode and recovery mode (not TWRP/CWM just regular recovery), but the normal boot would show a screen saying "System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone."
Since Safestrap was no longer loading, I tried flashing the stock jellybean kernel with ODIN, and is gave me a FAIL! (Auth) (Complete(Write) operation failed). I then tried repartitioning with the pit file, and it gave the same error.
It seems I can't flash with ODIN (I'm guessing because of Safestrap?) and for some reason Safestrap won't show up either. Any ideas?
Edit:
When trying to use ODIN, my phone displays:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH: I337
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
KNOX KERNAEL LOCK: 0x0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x1
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30
SECURE DOWNLOAD: ENABLE
WRITE PROTECTION: Enable
eMMC BURST MODE : enabled
START [224, 1440]
SW REV. CHECK FAIL: fused: 5, Binary: 4
You have to flash a higher version. The last line in the output indicates that the fuse count of the bootloader on the phone is 5 vs the one you are flashing is 4

Argh...
I started with a rooted S4 SGH-I337 running 4.3. Was eating batteries with AT&T's OTA push failing every day so I decided to flash a new 4.2.2 ROM using "For MK2 Base Users (never took NB1 OTA)" instructions Here. After the reboot, the "Samsung Custom" splash stayed on for an hour until I rebooted manually. Now it remains stuck in the splash screen unless I boot into download mode.
I've tried flashing a new ROM and partition using these instructions and (I337MK2_Full_Odin_Tar.tar.md5) / (SGS-I337_16GB.pit) but have not seen any difference. Here is where I'm sitting now.
Kies doesn't see the phone at all.
Download screen:
Code:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-1337
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
KNOX KERNAL LOCK: 0x0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x0
CSC-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30
WRITE PROTECTION: Enable
eMMC BURST MODE Enabled
After flashing, Download screen says:
Code:
Start (224, 1440)
SW REV. CHECK FAIL : Fused : 5, Binary : 4
and Odin says:
Code:
FAIL! (Auth)
Now it goes to a triangle/Oden download screen generally without going to the Samsung splash.
I've spent days reading threads and haven't found anything that seems helpful at this point. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions or links to a thread that may help?

If you are seeing this while flashing MK2, then you have a NB1 bootloader.

Holy Awsome Sauce Batman. With that little bit of information, I downloaded the rooted stock ROM and it worked like a charm. Thanks...
Fantastic! 1 piece of info and bingo! cost me hours to find it. Huge thanks!
I have the following problem and no matter what I try I can't get it to boot normaly.
The device is a SM-N9006 which was rooted with RDLV and MJ3 firmware. I put echoe rom on it and it was working fine.
A few days ago I wanted to update the firmware, so I downloaded the new echoe rom which installed through cwm nicely but after booting into it it kept hanging (not responding). Even the initial configuration had to be done in 4-5 parts because of the restarts that needed to bring it back to life.
So I decided to Flash a Stock firmware on it. Used N9006ZCUENF3_N9006CHNENF3_CHN in Odin, After restart the phone surprised me with the message:
Could not do normal boot.
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SM-N9006
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
REACTIVATION LOCK: OFF
KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0x0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x1
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (CSB)
RP SWREV: S1, T1, R1, A2, P1
WRITE PROTECTION: Enable
At this time also didnt work so whatever I tried to boot I ended up at this message. Tried to install several CWM versions which didnt help but after installing Philz Recovery, I could get into recovery but still no luck in booting normaly.
Tried flashing N9005 firmwares which failed in Odin (which worked before).
The only stock firmwares I can use now are the N9006 ones but no matter which one I try nothing lets me boot normaly.
Tried the Download Mode entry - Cancel method, the battery, SIM takeout method. Did several data, cache, dalvik deletion, nothing helps.
Please help what should I do?

In short, the video tells you to try again with Odin. What it doesn't tell you is to try a different USB port and don't use a hub. Also, the PIT file can be downloaded here in the forums, so please search for it.

According to your post, you phone has rooted in the past and knox counter was tripped one time (either could be caused by the flashing to the lower bootloader or installing the custom recovery).
The phone has locked bootloader as such you can not install custom recoveries like CWM or TWRP. To flash the zip rom you are stuck with either safestrap or flashfire.
To unbrick your phone, go here , get the files and follow the step to install the NB1 firmware.
Maybe this thread will help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/guide-odin-to-stock-updating-rooting-t2926642
