Hate M.M big Font! - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After marshmallow update the font letter is really big and i am hating it. Is there a way to return it to normal or change it? Also battery is worse, like 1 hour lower in SOT.
Thanks in advance!

Settings display font size small

change the DPI from build.prop file located in /system folder and look for
ro.sf.lcd_density
i changed it from 480 to 430 it looks nice now.

Mmmmm it sounds like the phone must be rooted to do that isn't it??
Thanks!

Nope, that's a change you can make with some ADB wizardry without root apparently.

Full disclosure, I haven't done this or used this guide, but it seems to be possible.

You probably need custom recovery for this, which you need to unlock the bootloader first, which you would lose all your data and warranty. Since there's no more warranty, might as well root the phone rather than going through the hard way with adb

Default or cm7
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Not sure yet. Both if possible. I would like to run CM7 but im not sure the warrenty will cover it.. at least if it was a modded stock rom they would have less case to clam we did something horrible to it. But if I have to have a custom rom I would want to keep the stock boot animations.
Your warranty will be lost in case you flash CM or any custom modded stock ROM.
Yeah probably,
But this is not the point.. I need to customise 40 of them...
If I can't use a modded stock rom, I don't care.. I just have no idea of the easyest way to get this done.
Build the ROM to your liking on on one phone, take a Nandroid backup of that, and provide that to the 40 other phones, and restore from it. It should work. I can't think of any method to 'Push' it yet.
Warranty should not be an issue. RUUs are always there if you mess something up. My screen got messed up, and with an RUU I made it completely factory (including the HBOOT - it replaces it) and gave it to HTC service, and they are replacing it under warranty now.

I hope they don't give it back to you with factory updated 2.2.1. This sort of thing happened to many around here.
Anyhow, I was only suggesting that because the OP seems to want his phones for business purposes, and, I thought, for such situations, warranty and productivity is the most important factor, and, terms like modding and customization take a back seat.

I told the guy 3 times not to touch the software, and he assured me he won't lol.
Me: Will you update the software or anything?
Him: No problem. We'll do it for you if you want.
Me: I DON'T WANT IT OMG.
Him: Sure we won't update then.
They seem to know about root and stuff
I agree though, if it's for business then CM7 doesn't really seem appropriate, although it would make my respect for the business ++

Cool, I didn't realise a Nandroid could be restored to other phones.
Also we got lucky, they are running HBOOT 0.80.0008
Seems the OTA updates didn't apply. So the hard part will be rooting them all... wow.. so slow.. I will prolly use CM7 as a base.. But I'm not sure.. I need a way to Have GMAIL but not Market. Can I add the GAPP's pack and then remove the market.apk? Also we want NONE of the stock 'bigpuddle' crap on the phones as the users only have small data allowances. Hmmm Also the GAPPS' pack is it gmail maps and Market? Because we are only 50/50 on having email on the phones.. if it is.. I might just leave it out all together.

Suggestions?

Ok guys, I got my hands on an OTA and I'm gonna try to pick it apart tonight when I get home from work. Here's what I'm asking:
1. What do you want in it? I plan on modding it and trying to force it onto mine to test it, so I wanna know what you guys want.
2. What do you want removed? I know there is some bloat, Do you still want it or do you want me to make 2, 1 with and 1 without?
3. What do you want as standard? Pdf reader, file manager, custom browser, etc.
The sooner you guys tell me the more work I'll put into it.
I'll try to have a beta posted by the middle of next month, it may take longer as I'm no expert in coding even though windows is a hell of a lot easier.

The registry will already be changed for interop. Thats a standard.
I dunno if that's in your possibility but the camera performance in pictures is awfully horrible. It's been addressed that's a software problem, can it be fixed?

I take that for a maybe. If you manage to do what your trying to do consider making a "Donate" button. Be careful anyway others have bricked their devices with no-access to the bootloader (so no turning back).

Means eventually, over time yes its achievable. At this very moment, no, but in the future yes it can be fixed.
Until access to the bootloader can be obtained without consequence, I'm leaving it as is.
I guess getting it unlocked is the biggest thing. Once we can put WP7 Root Tools in we can use the SDK to deploy whatever XAP's we want. Won't need a registry editor since it (WP7 RT) already has one and a file browser. Good luck, we're all counting on you.
A working compass driver.
Ok, so yeah... my phone is now a paperweight. Can't turn it on, can't connect to my pc, cant do anything. A tad bit pissed now. The only thing that kinda makes me not care is that it was free but on the downside in my drunken stupor I broke my computer... So yeah. Really mad at that fact. So, I'm sitting at work bored out of my mind... Gotta find a replacement phone quickly. So I guess I'm out... Sorry Guys. Glad I messed up my phone and not someone elses.

Worth Rooting Nexus 6p

Hey Everyone,
Simple question, is it worth rooting?
I have had many phones and the majority I've enjoyed rooting but with the Nexus 6p I'm kinda not too sure.
I want to know everyone's opinion on this.
like is having a custom kernel and rom worth losing Android Pay?
does having a custom kernel help with Battery life with Doze helping as well?
I'm tempted to root it and everything but would love to hear some feedback on this
Thanks!
Wasn't worth it to me until Cataclysm came to the 6P. Rooted and installed it that same day. Love the features and they make the phone more usable for me.
Well a lot of XDA'rs with Nexus's are Happy Flasher's thanks to root!
But its your usage and choices....
Noooo don't lose android pay!

If you root you do not lose Pay. You can always "temp Unroot" and only have root active when you need it.
If you install Xposed, you can have root AND have pay.

Honestly, only you can really answer these questions. It depends on what kind of applications you'd use root for. You haven't actually mentioned any situations where root is required, a custom kernel doesn't require root, it does require an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery though.

Thanks for that I thought you had to root to do the custom recovery and kernel.
Use the systemless root and you can still use android pay, if you use xposed it'll break android pay.

Do you not have the phone? 6p came with a short USB A to C cable that works fine for connecting to computer.
Been debating on rooting and enjoying new ROM goodness, but I'm one of the users that uses Android Pay frequently. Nice to know I can temp unroot in order to make a payment. I'm one that likes to modify DPI and such and as far as I'm aware doesn't matter if you're stock or not, changing anything in the system throws a flag.
Checked it today by changing the DPI through ADB and tried to open Android Pay. Wouldn't work.

Yeah I get it, my bank doesn't support Android Pay just yet so I have no use of it and the only play I've used it before was at McDonald's..
it's been a hard decision because I had an iPhone for a while so Im not up to date with what kernels are good and what roms are good.
One kernel I remember which I can't find here is Franco Kernel (I think that's how you spell it)

what module would I have to install to have Android Pay work?
I wouldn't bother or at least wait until you get bored of your phone as you don't want to risk breaking your brand new phone if you don't know too much
There's a few minor reasons to ROOT now......Things like:
Different battery icons
Double tap to wake
Ability to change fonts
More control over your notification light
Audio mods (like Viper4Andorid)
Backup data and apps
Change clock position
(I've probably missed a few)
Those seem pretty minor, but are the main reasons I ROOT.
I was planning on not rooting the nexus 6p. Actually, i really wanted to just use it as is and largely leave the tweaking alone. However, two things led me to root:
1) CF Lumen works so much better with root.
2) One handed mode has become a necessity for me. It's a shame Google has not built this into the core OS.

well I know what I'm doing, I've had many phones to not know lol but thanks maybe I'll try root and if I don't like it then I'll go back to regular
I mean that's the nice things about Nexus phones is the liberty to choose, its why I left Samsung got tired of locked bootloaders

Should I go ahead and go through the bootloader/rooting processes?

I've wanted to grill out some of the problems with the A7 that's came with it, but after realizing I've never done this before, I've also noticed there's no actual ROM out yet
Should I just wait until the ROM comes and maybe some full guides?

just unlocked my bootloader and rooted. Wonderful being able to use my root apps again. Chnaged my emoji using emoji switcher which i really wanted to do. Hate the stock android emoji.. debloated a little, and now about to change the system to my favorite font. I say go for it. If you do, let me know. I can send some pointers
considering there is absolutely no rom support yet I would hold off, wait out your 30 day return period and if there are roms after that and you want to void your warranty then do it then. Also I'm sure people are working on getting the bootloader unlocked without contacting ZTE so there is another reason to wait.

There is a fairly simple way to Unlock your boot loader right now, it seems to work for most people. Its possible they may figure out a way to block this in future updates (I am not an expert). If you are with in your retail return window I would recommend trying the method because if you manage to really mess something up, you can at least return it.
Just take your time.
The instructions are for multiple versions and slightly out of order. Make sure everything is working before you begin.
If you plan to go through ZTE and in theory void your warranty, then by all means wait until you really need it.
Good luck.

I just got my A7. Coming from OPO with a sultan rom running xposed. I want to root but honestly I am not super smart developer. I am good following direction and figuring things out. I honestly love Sulan rom and would love it on A& but I doubt he does a rom for it as he mostly is busy with school and sticks with OPO or OP3.
I am debating on rooting as I mostly just want xposed for its youtube app adblocker and in app blocking apps.
I would suggest waiting til roms are developed and little more mature. Which if judging by the speed of root being available I would say could be as soon as few months or less.
Big respect for the developers and who keep the community and advancements going. Thanks all!

New to OnePlus.

Good day. I'm a recent convert to OnePlus from LG. Learned the ins and outs of rooting and flashing on that device primarily through reading, and asking for help in the forums. Would anyone be willing to help by pointing me in the direction of info that would help me get started. Obviously I want to root and possible flash custom on this device at some point. Thanks.

Hey,
Welcome to the dark side
Here's my guide on the bootloader and root for Android 10
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8-pro/how-to/guide-unlocking-bootloader-rooting-t4151823
If you're already on 11 then just use the bootloader guide and skip to the next guide below.
Here's also my guide on how to obtain a boot img, the software needed, how to extract it, how to upgrade whilst retaining root or how to root 11 directly, 2 methods..
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8-pro/how-to/root-uk-eu-patched-magisk-boot-img-t4175033
If you have any questions, just ask away.
The OnePlus uses a two slot system..so if you're booted and you flash a boot img it'll go to the other slot.
There also no TWRP for Android 11 yet, but truth be told you simply don't need it..
My advice would be (if you want to unlock etc) is to get updated and rooted, then grab xXx NoLimits which is a magisk ROM.
Really appreciate your response! I'll do my best to not be a complete bother. I am pretty good at studying up before making attempts, but have been known to sound a bit frantic when I get into a perceived mess. Always appreciated the supportive ones in these forums. Peace!

I just came from the Pixel line....took me a bit to get Verizon to properly activate my device but this thing is sweet. I am currently on the xXx NoLimits. The one thing I miss about Android 10 is being able to force fullscreen on certain apps of mine. I've done it for years for certain situations using a root app. Now it no longer works since they did away with the ability in A11. I did notice a "Apps to Display in Fullscreen" under Advanced in Display settings.....nothing there though. What's that all about?
