How to kill an app (Kodi) in Nexus player ? - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Some addons hang the kodi installed in nexus player and noway to exit the kodi, so I gotta manually restart the device. Is there a way or working task manager to kill a specific app ?

I had kodi hang on me earlier today and was able to press the home button and navigate to settings --> apps --> kodi and hit force close from there.

Defaults to Media Player

sometimes when I come back to my device it has defaulted to media player. It is only a little annoying but does anyone know why this happens and how to resolve?? Thanks
not sure what you mean by defaulted to mediaplayer
if you mean that it will display media player and not today
then you can just close mediaplayer
if it's not running in the background i doubt it will start up
you can close mediaplayer by
entering memory under settings and stop the running programs you dont want to run any more
or you could install a taskmanager like
PHM Task Manager

music won't play in background

If I start music up then hit home or back then the task gets killed. I tried a reboot and this sometimes cures the problem, then after a while it comes back.
I also tried killing all processes and this has worked but doesn't every time.
I googled the problem but it only really came up with a thread on this forum for another device. Aldo that user had installed other task managers. My device is only a couple of days old and has just had some apps installed, no hacking or such like.
Any help appreciated.
Hmmm.
I've noticed that the tab comes with 2 apps. Audio Player and Music Player. Music Player works in the background. Audio Player doesn't.
You can also try Winamp. I think that works in the background
Hitting the back button will kill most apps, even those supposed to run in the background. But the music player should run when you hit home. Winamp does run in the background, use it all the time to listen to radio stations.
Thanks guys.
On my UK unbranded sim free Tab I have two music playing apps called "Music Hub" and "Music".
"Music" will in fact run in the background whether you use home or back buttons to leave.
"Music Hub" will not. In fact it will not run unless I have a cellular connection to verify my locale.
Earlier I was sure neither application would run in the background but perhaps I was just tired ?
Anyway...thanks for your attention, now off to research how to remove useless core apps.
Hi guys
I have the same problem, I'm pretty sure that at the beginning music was playing in background when I swiched to another app, now the music stops! I tried different players (winamp, audio player) in my branded "Tim" (italy) tab...
any new ideas or solutions???
Thanks!
I just couldn't sleep so I tried along until I found a solution!
The first time I used my Tab I connected it to my pc using the usb cable, and tranferred the songs as normal files in mass storage device. Everything worked ok and music played in the background..
then I formatted the memory, and today I was testing a new program to send files to my tab without using the usb cable (Wireless File Transfer).
The first problem I noticed was that when I opened "Music" or Winamp the songs weren't recognized, and so I used ES File Explorer to open the directory and launch a song... the second problem was related to the music not playing in background!
The solution is related to the fact that the phone doesn't scan for media when I transfer using wireless... so I downloaded "rescan media" and now everything works GREAT!
I simply launch the application, the phone searches for new files... they are recognized in my music progs and they play in background if I swich app!
I hope this helps!
I have the same Tablet. Have solved the issue. At first I thought I just needed to download Samsung Music. Well that was a start. Don't try and play tracks straight from that app though. Once you have downloaded Samsung Music, then go to the widgets and place Samsung Music on your interface. From there you will be able to listen to music and do other things. My Tablet is called, Galaxy Tab A.

[Help] Play streaming video using video player instead of browser

Hi,
I browse DailyMotion from my Galaxy S a lot using the stock Android browser (i'm using the desktop version of the site, rather than the mobile version). Whenever I try to play a video from DM, the browser would prompt me and give a choice between playing the video in the browser itself or playing it using the built in Video Player application. I always choose the latter option since it has less lag and better seek control.
However since yesterday the browser no longer gives this prompt to choose preferred player. It would always load the video within the browser which is sort of annoying. Do you know of a way to force the streaming video to be played using video player app instead of within the browser itself?
So far I have tried the following with no success:
- Rebooted
- Checked and cleared default associations
- Cleared data on Internet app
- Cleared cache, history, etc and even reset internet settings to defaults
The only change I remember doing prior to this issue was upgrading Flash player from 10.3 to 10.3.185.22. I tried rolling back to 10.1 and results were still the same. Any help is appreciated. I'm running stock Froyo 2.2.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. - I still get this prompt when trying to play YouTube videos. I get to choose between browser and YouTube app.
Try this...works on my tab with 2.2...
Go to Settings>Applications>Browser and click on it. Then in the screen which opens up where it says uninstall, move etc....just scroll down to "launch by default" and press clear defaults. Now press back and exit and open up the browser and it should give you a choice of app as before...

Thanks for the reply. However I had earlier tried this to no avail. There were no defaults associated with the Browser and the button was greyed out (in my phone there is no app named 'Browser', instead it's named Internet)
I used to get the same thing Ram. I dont think it has to do with any settings with your phone. It must be something dailymotion did because I dont get the same prompt like I did last time.

Go into the app, to whatever you want to delete (it has to be an album or a song, not an artist). Swipe to the left or right on the item(s) to select it, and when the menu pops up, hit delete (it may be in the more options button)
Hit thanks if I helped!:good:

How to stop apps like Music from staying in the background?

How can I kill the Music app when I am done using it. It is still attached to the play controls!
This is a very annoying issue. I can not believe Google missed it.
I don't use the music app. But have had other apps do similar. Have you tried opening the Play Store app or the Movies app and then close it? I've found opening and closing an app that does it correctly may help. The apps with issues just need an update to fix them.

After restarting the nexus player it still has the play/pause button connected to the music app. I ended up disabling it completely.
No if I can find an eq that works on it.

I believe you have to hit the stop in the app (on screen)to disconnect the app. Also if you start another app that connects to the play/pause button it should disconnect as well.
