Rooting OP2 using a Mac? - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
Having trouble getting connected with ADB on my OP2.
I am using a Mac ( el capitan )...I have installed the Android Studio fully and adb looks installed correct.
When running command ./adb version it gives:
Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.29
When I run ./adb devices however I get:
adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
As you see no device is connected...How can I solve this so I can root?

I think I had a similar problem, albeit a while ago, and it was the version of adb/fastboot.
If you've got homebrew, try running 'brew install android-platform-tools'
That said, are you sure you've USB debugging switched on?

To solve the issue is by installing the device driver,
Plug it to your mac and in finder you will see new drive on the side bar, named oneplus something, just click it and install the macintosh driver

Same issue, any help would be great... the sdk says up to date.
I've attached the adb and fastboot binaries from the latest Android SDK for Linux. Also make sure you check the phone for the popup to confirm adding the PC's signature to the device's whitelist.
I assume you're using Ubuntu in which case android-tools is in the Ubuntu Repository for 12.10.
Code:
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
If you want a more update ADB and Fastboot use this ppa http://www.webupd8.org/2012/08/install-adb-and-fastboot-android-tools.html
I have the one from Ubuntu repository installed on 13.04 and it works fine with my 4.2.2 devices.
Also, like tuxdude said, make sure you have your PC whitelisted so it is able to connect via adb. New security feature in 4.2.2
Try disabling and re-enabling usb debugging while plugged in. It's the only way i got the rsa verification on osx, which before i had the offline device output message.
I had a same problem, and I found the solution.
If the adb the newest, and RSA windows doesn't appear on phone, check the .android directory (in your Home directory) ownership and permission. Mine was wrong, root was the owner.

[Q] Can't install apks despite my device is NOT adb offline.

Ok I've been following every step some posts follow in order to upgrade every Android SDK component to the last version (adb, sdk manager, avd manager, usb driver, web driver and ALMOST EVERYTHING fetched in the sdk manager). I have my Nexus 4 on stock 4.2.2 (JDQ39) working like a charm with its USB driver with my PC, the debugging is on, also the unknown sources option (if any), the phone is properly linked with the "adb fingerprint protection" thing (can't remember the correct name), and last I can see my Nexus 4 detected on adb devices command AND STILL I can't install a sole apk, in this case I'm using Android Commander 0.7.9.11 and nothing, I've tried with Droid Explorer or even Moborobo and nothing.
However in my cousin's laptop I can successfully install apps.
I thought it must be something wrong or corrupted with my OS, so I reinstalled Windows 8 (x64) and take care about all the drivers and everything mentioned above and still... I get the same, so I'm running desperate here.
Maybe it's something simple, I just need someone to help me.
Sorry if I writed so much... I only did it to avoid Android's ABC related questions.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Best regards.

[Q] ADB not showing device

Hi, my problem is this: my phone is recognized as an ADB device but I cannot see it under adb devices.
Currently running PA RC2 3.99
Fastboot and Recovery do recognize it but ADB does not.
I have the drivers from here installed them as described in the instructions with uninstalling + deleting the old ones and rebooting.
I also have the most updated version of ADB from Android SDK.
One weird thing is that if i uninstall + delete the current drivers and try to install the ones i got from the SDK and not from the thread I mentioned then it does not install them. So maybe that is where my problem...
Any advice??
Thanks in advance.

Did you enable usb debugging?
Also check that you have an option selected under Settings>Storage>USB Computer connection, not having either MTP or PTP selected there will also bork adb.
If you still can't get it to work, try Koush's universal drivers: Link
still not working...
1. Yes, usb debugging is on.......
2. Already tried toggling MTP/PTP/None - When on MTP driver installs successfully but I cannot see the device under adb devices. on the other two options (PTP/None) I am unable to install the driver (tried both the ones on XDA and the ones from MDK)
3. Tried Koush's universal driver - on PTP/None still not able to install drivers. On MTP didn't do much except for changing device name from Android ADB Device to Google Nexus ADB Interface
Thanks for all the quick replies,
Any other suggestions???

what does it say when you issue the "adb devices" command? Please write it out here so we can help you. Does it say "device offline"? If yes, then your device is not registered by digital fingerprint by Android SDK.

Ok, so I'm with my Nexus connected as an MTP device, with the driver from XDA installed (see attached image), USB Debugging enabled:
Code:
C:\>adb kill-server
C:\>adb start-server
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
C:\>adb devices
List of devices attached
C:\>
Any advice???
Anyone has any advice??
I really have not idea what to do. Tried everything...
Thanks
Works on a different computer
I've connected the phone to my borther's PC and installed the drivers from the SDK. It worked without any problem.
I really can't figure out why it's not working on my laptop.
[Solved]
OK...
So as I said before I tried connecting when PTP is checked and when neither PTP nor MTP are checked and on both couldn't install the drivers properly (neither from xda nor from sdk).
What worked for me:
1. Uncheck both PTP & MTP
2. Device Manager -> Nexus 4 -> Update Driver Software -> Browse my computer for driver software
3. Now instead of browsing to the location I went to "Let me pick from a list..."
4. It should show a list of devices/manufacturers. Clicked "Show All Devices"
5. On the bottom right click "Have a disk"
6. Point to the android_winusb.inf file from Android SDK
7. Choose Android ADB Interface from the list
8. Let driver install

[Q] Adb sideload nexus 10 not recognized

My tablet is in developer mode, USB data bugging is clicked on. In storage, MTP is clicked on. Using the latest Android SDK along with the latest Google Win USB drivers (also different cables, different ports, uninstalled and reinstalled all drivers and software, turned on and off debug, debug authorization.. Just about everything I can think of.) Also, no, not rooted, fully stock. Been searching for a few days for this problem that occurs while trying to upgrade to Kit Kat 4.4 from JWR66Y 4.3 on my nexus 10.
Plug in my n10 normally and WIN7 will see it in the device manager as Android Device, Android Composite ADB Interface, Hardware Ids =
USB\VID_18D1&PID_4EE2&REV_0226&MI_01
USB\VID_18D1&PID_4EE2&MI_01
Boot the n10 into recovery and the adb sideload, the n10 shows everything correctly and waits for the adb sideload file. CONNECT THE USB cable and Win7 does not recognize the device. Tries to find a driver for 'other devices, nexus 10' but eventually returns with no driver found. Tried installing from specific directories (new google usb driver download), letting it search windows update evewn search my entire hd. It cannot locate a driver. Device manager shows an entirely different Hardware Id for 'other devices, Nexus 10' =
HARDWARE IDS (OTHER DEVICES, NEXUS 10)
USB\VID_18D1&PID_D001&REV_0226
USB\VID_18D1&PID_D001
I did a search with this information and found others had this ID/problem with their Nexus 7 during the Jelley Bean upgrade!
http://blog.dantup.com/2012/10/fixing-adb-device-not-found-with-nexus-7-in-recovery-mode/
There is no Nexus 10 in this file, but the second line of 'google nexus (generic)' list the ID that I have when booting normally.
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_4EE2&MI_01
I assume that if I replace this number with the ID I see in adb sideload mode (USB\VID_18D1&PID_D001) I should be able to install the correct USB and ADB drivers as others did on their n7 (shown in that link)?
My problem is identical to tbe description on that link, but I am guessing at the fix for the n10. This sounds like the solution to me, but I am also worried if it could be a sign of a bigger broblem or might brick my nexus. So any help would be appreciated!
Thanks all!
Ed
I tried changing the ID initially as well but then adb throws errors about the ini file not being verified. In the end I installed these to get the adb drivers properly installed: http://koush.com/post/universal-adb-driver
After that Windows finally properly recognised my N10 (and the command adb devices also showed it could see the device) and I was able to sideload kitkat.

Wow, I hope someone finds this thread and it saves them the headaches and searches I have been through. Worked just like you said, installed this adb usb driver and it picked it right up. I wonder why google couldn't get the google driver to read their own nexus 10 tablet!
Now running Kitkat 4.4 with no data loss, thanks to you Kira!
Thank you!

Thank you, been banging my head around to try and find a fix, worked like a charm for sideloading KitKat.
cheers
Oh my god, pushing this thread because I almost needed 6 hours to root my Nexus 10 with other ADB drivers but this one worked!

[PSA/FIX] Newest adb doesn't work on WinXP + 5x USB drivers that work

I happen to update platform-tools in the Android SDK from version 23.1 to version 24 on an older PC.
The newest adb.exe included with v24 no longer works on WinXP.
You will get the following error upon startup:
adb.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point WSAPoll could not be located in the dynamic link library WS2_32.dll.

In case anyone is curious, I tracked the change down to this one:
https://android-review.googlesource.com/#/c/203387/
ADB
I've attached the v23.1 adb and fastboot to this post in case someone needs the previous version (which works fine with 5x up to at least MTC20F)
Just unzip and you can use adb/fastboot from the resulting platform-tools-v23.1 directory or copy them over to where your normal platform-tools directory is.
USB drivers for 5x
I also included USB drivers that work with 5x. These should work for 32/64-bit for winxp and vista. Win7 is maybe, haven't tested.
They WILL NOT work with win8 and above due to changes in driver enforcement. I am not sure about win8.x but on win10, there is a built-in driver that works with adb. To get bootloader/fastboot driver, just allow win10 to search for drivers. It will load Marshall London Bootloader Interface. This is for a different phone from music company Marshall, but it works fine since it is an Android-based device.
I could never find one official driver from google or lg that would work with adb inside android, adb inside twrp, adb sideload inside stock recovery, and fastboot.
I stopped worrying about why it works for other people and just fixed the problem myself.
Not sure if it matters to that many people these days, but it was confirmed the change in adb is not a bug and will persist going forward, so if you ever need to run adb on a WinXP box or emulator, you'll need to retrieve platform-tools-23.1 or earlier.
WinXP compatible platform-tools also could be downloaded from official repository:
http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools_r23.1.0-windows.zip
Thank you so much for this sfhub. This was driving me crazy getting bootloader access with Win 7. Updated to the driver you linked and worked great. I guess most people out there are using Win 8 or 10 now? Minblowing that so few use 7.

Actually Windows 7 is still installed on nearly half of all desktop and laptop computers: https://www.netmarketshare.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=10&qpcustomd=0. Did the most recent SDK drop support for it?
For anyone who wants to use adb on the latest version of Android Studio running on Windows XP use the adb .exe from version 23 and paste it into the platform tool folder. Keep a copy of the new adb.exe just in case you need it. No need to use the entire v23 platform tool folder.
The references in this thread have so far appear to refer to latest adb compatibility, particularly for Windows XP.
Does the latest fastboot still work fine with Windows XP? If not, what was the last known-good or thought to be last known-good version for Windows XP?
Hi
The adb from the v2.3.1 works fine with my win xp, thank you for the file.
Hello,
I am another WinXP user facing the error
"adb.exe - Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point WSAPoll could not be located in the dynamic link library WS2_32.dll."
@sfhub & @Sintetix
Thanks for the info and provide the latest version supported by XP ...
Are you aware of any important changes / additions in the future versions to be concerned of?
Regards

I am trying to connect an Asus Transformer tablet with "MTP file transfer" mode on WinXP Service Pack 3 laptop... cable is fine and the plan is to move from custom ROM (Android 6.0) to Stock (JellyBean) ... Something I already did few years ago having Win10 (I have the receipe used then)
I think I better get a fresh Win7 on my primary Win10 PC and start from there... I never liked W10 anyway ... and since I did mods to [finally &effectively] stop the [annoying, unwanted & plenty of bugs] Win10 updates ... I got funny errors when using dev stuff ... even DotNet ...
And I need to think a better O.S for the XP PC ...
Time to change. Regards
Before jumping to my major O.S actions,
I gave a chance to my Asus Transformer tablet with another cable under the W10 PC and the latest adb (r29.0.2-win) and this second time it worked fine ...
The first time and first cable did not work (reason that drove me to the WinXP PC thinking the cause was Win10)
fastboot devices
was literally returning
???????????? fastboot
But this second time with another cable
fastboot devices
returned
BLAxxIDxxSTRING fastboot
And I was finally able to perform the format and flash series of commands to return my tablet to the stock ROM ...
As I understand this thread is about WinXP, for testing purposes, I hooked my fresh flashed tablet to the WinXP PC with the successful spare cable, and
adb devices
got again

Certainly I don't have the explanation of this, but I can tell you is not because a faulty cable or something related to the tablet.
And something scary to add: the first cable looks in good shape and is the one used every day to charge the tablet without any delays or issues ...
Hope someone find this useful and provide more insight. Regards
