Anyone have their nexus player crash if an external hard drive is connected?
I have 5TB hard drive. Partitioned 2TB. Still doesn't work.
If hard drive is plugged in while start up, it will not make it through start up, and will just reset and start the start up again. (Loop)
If I plug in the hard drive in while nexus player is up and running it will restart to start up, and be stuck in the same loop described above.
Anyone have an external hard drive working on nexus player?
Thanks

What kind of connection do you have ?
I suppose that a 5TB is a 3,5" in a case power supplied.
Do you have an Usb Hub on Nexus Player or It's directly connected to OTG ?
I got "Settings FC" when I try to attach my HD without external power
we should ask @dhacker29

Hi QTek,
I have a 3.5" in a case that is self powered, and it is connected to the Nexus Player directly via an OTG cable.
What do you mean by "Settngs FC"?
The last time I got this hard drive to work with Nexus Player was when I was running cm-21.1-20151026-NIGHTLY-fugu.zip
Totally agree we should ask the great dhacker but I can't . I am to new! haha

Self Powered means that It doesn't need to be attached at power wall socket cause It use USB power to work
I think you have a power supply for your 5TB attached in a socket....
and you "should not" have these problems
I've this usb hub

on top of the hub, I attached the keyboard (Logitech K400) Bluetooth receiver
If use an old 3,5" usb 2.0 with power attached on wall It works in every conditions
If I try my 2,5" usb 3.0 without power (It doesn't have a DC in) It works for a little than It stop and try to restart at loop making ForceClose the settings app
The hub has also a power microusb port, but I didn't tested It yet
I don't know about other ROMs, I started to use USB Hard disk with Pure Nexus Rom
I'm using lastest Pure Nexus ROM

Am I the only one who can't sync with a home dock? It has never been able to sync from the roll out day that I bought it. I always thought it was a Samsung screw, but I opened it up tonight. You can see in the pic below that it actually has a USB connection with all the right wires. Does anyone have the correct pinout to the micro USB connector? BTW, not a bad pic for 5 megapixel camera, heh?

If you are talking about the Media Part of it, then this is an issue with Samsung that is supposed to be fixed on froyo. so just wait a day or two and test it then. Also you might find more answers Here:

?Not talking the video Froyo thing. What I'm taing about is the usb micro circuitry that should allow us to sync between the phone and the computer via the micro cable?

I'm not sure what you think the dock does, but there is no desktop sync with these devices (until Samsung Kies works, which will probably be never). When I plug mine into the dock, it asks whether I want to charge or start the USB hub. If I choose the latter, it connects as a USB device, but syncing with Outlook, etc. doesn't happen.

I just wanted to use the usb port to do odin, 1 click, move files, etc. On mine I get nothing other than charging. The one suspect wire was the white one which might have been making contact with the board. On my way to sprint store to get a replacement.
THANK YOU!!!

Just a warning to everyone who values their PS/2 keyboard / mouse. I ordered a PS/2 to USB connector and tried to connect the keyboard to the phone. The result was a fried keyboard that flashed its Caps / Scroll / Num Lock lights at a constant rate, and after a reboot of the computer, 2 of the 3 lights were on at about 10% light. This happened to me with a generic HP keyboard. Obviously the keyboard never worked again.

Disassembling the keyboard I could make out a bit of burnt electronics smell.
Yay, Samsung!
Great stuff. 1st device to be killed by being plugged into an S2? I've attached all sorts of random crap to mine via OTG and not managed to fry anything
YOU can use this application wifikeyboard it work very nice without otg
Luckily it was only a generic HP keyboard, although it was the most comfortable keyboard I've ever had.
I wish I had known about that app before I plugged it in.
u need just wifi in your pc and router of course or use : connectify software to turn your pc as router than install wifi keyboard from market
and try it and you don t need to use otg
The Lesson here is...
USB OTG is meant for real USB devices only, not something that requires an Adapter to convert it to USB

But it wasn't a USB device though.
Yeah, but I just thought, if it connects then it should work. I don't see why it would have burned it though, if the computer can work fine with it.
Ok, not sure if this should go here or the Samsung Epic 4g Touch Forum, as this is my phone and where the issue occured, but I figured this could apply to other phones and wanted to help whoever out.
Anyways, I had the phone for just two weeks and one day I connected to my computer with a micro usb cable, and the computer would fail to recognize it saying "USB device not recognized..." I tried everything including different computers, cables, reinstalling device drivers etc to no avail. Come to find out, I plugged the micro usb cable into the micro usb more firmly and pushed down on a little bit, and finally recognized the device. I guess the port was wearing down over just two weeks and the connection had come loose.
Anyways, wondering if anyone had this issue and if it was repairable as I can see the port getting progressively worst with repeated plugging and unplugging of the device. Thinking samsung would have been able to have built a more durable mini usb port for such a nicely designed device.
Well first, you were right with wondering if you were posting in the wrong place. This is the original epic forum, not the touch. Also, this question has been beaten to death already. Either your cable is faulty, or your drivers aren't fully installed. You can also remove your battery while in download mode and that can help it being recognized.

b16flybye -- I think I just said it wasn't the usb cable or drivers and that it was the actual micro usb port on the phone that was causing the issue.
If you truly believe that it is the port, you can get it replaced at a Sprint store.

and sorry I meant to post in the general forum. I will move my post.
Gavisann -- Yea, it is the port. Once I push the cable in further, the device will recognize it, but once I let go, it loses the connection.

I'm installing an HTC flyer in my car permanently where the radio would go (2DIN mounting), but kind of sad at the prospect of losing camera functions (video of dashboard interiors are boring).
So, what would be involved in removing the camera module and placing it somewhere else, as the dash for example? Would I just need to unsolder the camera module, solder on a whole bunch of cables, and connect them to the same contacts? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Alternatively, if a device has USB OTG capabilities, is there any way to make it talk to a regular USB webcam?
Discuss
Alot of research could go into what you're trying to do.......
However, I'd recommend just trying it and see what happens. Make sure your wires are all the same length.
So yeah.. In this situation, i think the Leroy Jenkins approach is appropriate.

PRICELESS!! lmao. @OP, awesome idea for the in dash flyer. Please post some completed pics!
have you thought about removing the camera from the back ad making "jumper cables" to put it up front? you might need something to make a housing for it to sit in the dash, but it would be better than writing a driver for it.

The thing is in adding(soldering?) 2 proper connectors to longer flex IMO, hard to do at home, but nothing is impossible. ^^
About OTG connecting - you'd probably use universal WebCam drivers from Ubuntu for eg. though the problem would be in powering that I think, WebCam has to be OTG compliant (with external power connector maybe?) or you'd need some special adapter, the rest is redirecting Android to use your webcam, but don't think it's hard comparing to other things.
I did this with a fascinate in my 87 BMW 325ic
I bought 2 extra cameras ( paid $16ea somewhere, cant remember off hand)
I failed at getting it to work myself as I suck at soldering.
However-
I had a friend take it into work and solder it in for me. We then took a light sensor from a 4th gen camaro , mounted it on my dash, ran the cam there, installed the phone and f-in-a . it was sweet.
this lasted for a full 3 weeks until something came undone and now the cam doesnt work. Ive switched back to the stock deck and just wired a bluetooth receiver into the tape deck, mounted a droid x down by the ashtray and it works. Not as great as what I had, but it works.
Point being, it can be done. and its pretty sweet when done right.
grab fried boards from ebay and start from there.
Wait some more weeks, cotula is developing usb host mode driver, and he has developed a working driver. Its for android. It will be available soon to public when he corrects the errors.
So u can simply plug in an usb cam to ur phone( providing only external power supplay is needed.) So u can do it with out bricking ur phone. Till then use it as a phone..

I had a problem once with the original cable that came with my s4, It charge and everything but when I connected it to the pc it failed to connect. But a change of cable had solved my issue.
But since you have tried that option already. Did you check to see if one of the pins from the phone's port is probably missing or not in the correct position? It could be the pin that transmits data is broken or something.
Also try to angle the cable when plugged (phone side) in to see if you get any connection. (If you do, then one of the pin is loosed.)

Try enabling developer settings, then mass storage mode.
you could try accessing it with odin to make sure its not a hardware fault with the phone? maybe even have a close look into the connector to make sure there is nothing stuck inside like a tiny piece of paper or fluff that is covering one of the pins.
