How to get root on stock MM OTA? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm seeing a lot of different methods for rooting this phone. I've got the xt1575 on AT&T bone stock MM. What is the best way to get root working? I need it broken down barney style since I haven't rooted a moto device since my old ass Xoom.

[Q] Looking for a good safe Root and Stable ROM

I just bought a used Motorola Atrix for a great price and was looking at some of the ways to root the device and everything I have seen makes me very nervous to try anything at the moment.
I have rooted several Nexus One and Nexus S phones and never had any issues but I have been reading that the bootloader and firmware on the Atrix is nothing like any of the devices I have done in the past.
I would love to root and flash a nice custom stable ROM because after being spoiled using CM7, the stock ROM is not going to cut it. Anyone know of a good root method I could use without the fear of bricking this lovely device? Or should I just wait for a better stable process to come down the pike? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So first your going to have to be on 1.26 to get a root. If you've already updated to 1.57 (the OTA update) then you need to flash back to 1.26. Instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072
Then you can root, retain that root, update to 1.57 (OTA Update), and get your root back. Instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060
Then after you are done updating and getting your root back, you can install CWM (this is what the current roms are using to install), much better than adb. Instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019143
Then you can either use GladAtrix Rom or Gingerblur (this is what I'm currently running). Both of these will deodex your system, theme your atrix, and give you the option to install various mods/hacks. Check the dev forum to see which one you think you would rather have.
Got all that???
I know it seems like a lot, but if you read and follow the directions, it's pretty fool proof, despite all the noob questions and problems to the contrary. If you have any questions or problems, just ask.
Swiftks...you should take you're reply and post it in general as a basic how to for the atrix...

Just got a DX. Want to root. But It's .621.

So I just got this phone and I used to have an EVO. Rooting and flashing was easy. Now im reading that if you have the new update, it's a whole process. I seen the .621 update using ubuntu process. Is that the best way?
I've tried the doroot, and the easy one step root thing. But to no avail.
Probably because I'm on that .621 update.
I really want to get this phone to ICS. So I need root. Also I see alot of worry about data loss or inability to make calls after root process. Does that apply to me since I'm going to flash it to MetroPCS?

You have to do the Ubuntu method. I would recommend reading the first few pages of the topic before proceeding. The op leaves out some key things...

ATT Root_Recovery Help

I am new to the Samsung Phone.
I come form a Droid X which i successfully rooted and returned to stock using SBF files.
I want to root my SG3 but also want a proven method to return to stock if i soft brick the phone.
I see a few methods listed but remain confused as to which one to use. I have become familiar with booting the phone into upload and download modes and with using Odin.
What thread and method would you suggest i use so i will not destroy my 600 dollar phone?
Sorry for the newbie question but a still a bit uneasy about doing this.
Lenny
I personally used the Odin no trip method (although my phone still says
modified ) any ways worked perfect for me. This seems to be the safest method for at&t phones.
Im sure some one else will chime in.
Any ways if were you I would first and foremost check out the stickies here and in the dev section and the "read first " threads.
And for that matter...welcome!

Need a little help...

First off, I have a rooted GS2SR with CM9 and InstigatorX kernel. I have some experience rooting but my buddy's Droid X is throwing me for a loop. It's running FroYo 2.2.1 unrooted stock. He wants to upgrade it to ICS. What program do I need to get to interface with it to root it? He tried to do it himself and it was stuck in a bootloop. Had to sbf back to froyo 2.2.1 for it to do anything using RSD. These forums are a bit outdated and searching isn't working. Is it really just as simple as loading a .zip to root, loading the bootstrapper, flashing cwm, flashing the rom and voila? Modding my G2SR was easy, but this seems a bit more complex. Or if someone could simply link me to a thorough CM7/CM9 root-how-to forum that would be terrific. Thanks!
He needs to take the latest OTA update, then follow this guide:

No no no! Do not update firm ware until you root your phone!
Root your phone via Pete's then dl voodoo Rota rootkeeper follow directions THEN do the ota.
And make sure read about any issues before flossing any Rom.

4.4 and SlapMyMoto

Ok I'm trying to sift through all the information availble on multiple threads to figure this out. So if I use SMM and root my phone, I can then flash the 4.4 OTA and IF it goes through I am on 4.4 and rooted. Now if the OTA flash fails, I have to enter a bunch of adb commands to recover the phone on 4.4. If this happens am I still able to attain root with SMM?
Also I am on the original firmware, not even the 12.15 firmware. Can I flash straight to 4.4 after running SMM? Thanks in advance. After these questions are answered, I will be happy to make a guide for everyone to follow to safely get from stock firmware to 4.4 rooted.
I believe you have to take the 12.15.15 update. No once on 4.4 you can't root as of now.

Okay I'm certian that others have 4.4 and root. They used slap my moto. I'm just curious about if the 4.4 flash fails, if I can still get root.

Yes you can have root I have root on 4.4 you have to start the root process on 4.2.2. You have to root 12.15.15 then get permanent write off protection. Then use slap my moto take 4.4 update then finish the slap my moto exploit and your rooted.
Or buy a Dev edition

LOL your never going to let that go to be honest I agree it is getting ridiculous anymore root is getting harder and harder. And as much as I love SS the roms with kexec kernels never measure up they always end up running slow and lag. My next phone will be a dev phone buy a reg phone on subsidize sell it and pick up a dev.
