Performance issues on Moto X Style - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using a Moto X Style (also known as Moto X Pure Edition in the US) for a couple of weeks now. I have been using it since it got the Marshmallow update and don't know much about how it was before on Lollipop.
I have noticed some performance issues with the device. The first one is more easily noticeable. Scrolling is just isn't great in many apps, such as Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. You'd think a powerful phone like this would scroll smoothly, but it just doesn't and many older phones such as the Nexus 5 seem to do a better job in comparison.
Second one is a bit more odd. If you have a recent Motorola device and have watched YouTube videos on it, you'd know a sort of filter kicks in a couple of seconds after you make the video full screen. The same thing happens on this phone as well, but when it does the video freezes and only the audio keeps playing. This doesn't happen on all videos and only happens at 1440p resolution, but I can reproduce it easily with multiple videos (like the latest MKBHD video on YouTube gear, for example).
I personally find the filter kicking in annoying enough as it is, because it tends to use dynamic contrast nonsense to adjust the display brightness according to the screen contents in the video but if that wasn't bad enough it is now causing the video to freeze every time it kicks in.
Anybody else noticing these issues on their device?

I also had the scrolling issue.
Im on 6.0, too.
Yesterday, I made a factory reset and this problem had gone away.

I just noticed that exact same issue also only in 1440p and also watching a MKBHD video and it just gets stuck while the audio keeps going, I tried force closing the app, clearing cache and app data and also disable all xposed modules to do with youtube (Youtube background audio playback module and no ads module enabled) it still didn't fix the issue after reboot.
Any ideas?
Also noticed since marshmallow that Shazam and Soundhound both can't hear any sound via microphone to identify songs playing.

Marshmallow definitely broke the Truecaller app for me. Not sure about Shazam and SoundHound.

Slo-Mo video sometimes not working

Hi there!
Occasionally, when using the slow motion setting the video will record, play back in slow motion, but the fps will not be up to par - as in, it'll be set to 240 fps but will most definitely look choppier and not as smooth as I know it should be. A restart of the phone usually fixes this but there's no way to tell if it's not working until I record a video and play it back. Any one else experiencing this? Also, all the sample slo-mo videos online look so crisp and clear, while my videos tend to look pretty noisy, even with decent light. Any input is appreciated.
I've had issues when viewing the videos in Google Photos as well. Not sure if it's related to the video or other HDR photos still processing, or just Google Photos doing whatever it does to index them. I have sync set to charging only and wifi only, but when I was at my grandma's house taking videos of her dog jumping and doing tricks, when I played them back they would play OK the first time, but if I started moving the sliders and jumping to different spots in the video, it would freeze up or get really choppy.
Hoping it will be fixed with an app update soon.
I am having the exact same issue you described. It's not a playback issue. It's choppy even played back on a computer.
It is supposed to capture at 240 fps and stretch that out into a 30 fps video file. Look at the properties of a slow-mo video file, it should say something like 29 fps. When mine isn't working correctly, and the playback isn't smooth, that video file's properties says 7 fps. So, it seems like it's capturing 4 times slower than it's supposed to, at 60 fps or something.
Restarting my phone fixes it, for a few days. I've only had the phone a couple weeks and have had this happen twice now. No clue why this happens. Surely it's more widespread than just us.
As for the grainy noise, you have to have a lot of light, more than you'd need for a normal video. Mine are pretty grainy unless there's a ton of light.
Yeah, mine becomes choppy too sometimes. A reboot fixes it for a while. I've seen this issue posted a few different places so I think it's a software/firmware problem that Google will need to resolve.
Just wanted to add that I have the exact same problem, meaning that it still hasn't been fixed.
I know this is an old post, but I just got a 6p and I too have this issue. I'm even on DP4 so it's not fixed yet in this release either... Reboot is the only temporary fix I've found.

Moto X Play with MM and latest Motorola Camera: Video recordings out of sync.

I'm not sure if the system update or one of the recent camera updates is the culprit here, but quite a few (but far from all) of the videos taken with Motorola's stock camera end up out of sync. There is a quite significant (up to a second) delay between audio and video, both when playing it back on the device itself as well as when playing it anywhere else.
So not the playback, but the creation of these 1080p videos is somehow bugged. There also is little rhyme or reason why these specific videos are out of sync although it appears to possibly happen more with low light video recordings.

I've noticed this too. For me, this happens mostly when the battery is low. I have heard that big cores get shut off below a certain percentage, so perhaps this has something to do with it.
I've personally noticed the quality of the video capture is choppy. The 1080p 30 fps capture lags when moving objects are on the screen. For example, I shot a video of some quick hand movements (no jokes about male body parts here, please!) and the camera did not replicate them in real time. I would estimate a 200-400 MS delay in rendering.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Video recording freezes in app, audio keeps going (Harry's Laptimer)

Hello,
I have recently switched from a GoPro to this app to gather more data on track but im experiencing some problems with recording. After emailing with the app developer we came to the conclusion that this seems to be a problem with the device and not the app itself.
Whenever i start recording the camera always seems to freeze at or around the 4min11 mark.
After watching the recording i noticed that the audio does keep going.
I have tried;
- changing the resolution (4K, 1080, 720 and SD)
- close all apps running in background
- exporting the videos to pc to play them with VLC (could have been a playback issue but nope)
Using the camera outside the app oddly enough does not give any problems.
Any chance there is way to solve this issue?
Phone is rooted, running stock oxygen software and had a factory reset 2 weeks ago.
Thanks

Video lagging sound while playing on YouTube

I started experiencing that large video playing on YouTube lags the sound, especially when a video is long. The sounds go way ahead from the video. It looks like the phone lacks the ram or performance but it has a decent tech specification, should be an issue, especially when I play a video on a low resolution. Has anyone else experienced the same issue?
I have a similar issue with video playback. However, it is not only with youtube, it is with all videos. Even those on google photos, etc. The playback timer doesn't start, but the video starts with no sound, then the playback timer starts with the sound and the video freezes until the sound catches up with the video. The issue disappears with a restart and only started happening recently. Very odd.
Made an account for this lul... Anyways it seems like I fixed the issue on my phone, I disabled the mobile manager, let me know if that works for you. Good luck
I had to update youtube

Buzz sound when playing certain video?

Not sure if anyone of you experience loud buzzing sound on the phone while playing certain video?
For example, when I used Google Chrome browser or Cheetah Browser to watch video on facebook.com, the phone will produce a loud buzzing sound randomly while the video is playing, but if I use Firefox browser, there is no buzz sound. I never experience buzz sound so far on other application like Youtube, but it happened quite often while I am browsing and watching video on Facebook using Google Chrome browser.

this thing has been bothering me since I bought this phone. While playing the video with earphones on, it makes shrieking noise which feels like my ears are about to be burst.
Anyway have you found any solution to that?
Experiencing Same screeching sound here also
So far I didn't found any solution other than using Firefox browser instead of Chrome, I think the screening is only there when I play video with Chrome, not with other applications.
I faced the same issue with Youtube app, I am not sure about other apps as I have not used them properly yet, I received the phone today and this happens! freaked the hell out of me. I recorded a video as well to keep it as a proof if needed for replacing the device. I'm gonna wait for 7 days if this happens again, I would request a replacement from mi.com. Let's hope it doesn't happen again, also please let us know if someone has found the reason/solution for the issue.

Even i also facing same issue, when ever i play videos in Facebook speaker is making a kind buzz sound this one i didn't observed on any other application. Only on crome. And i exchanged that with a new one still i am facing same issue.what was the resoluction u took to resolve it let me know
Its an os bug present from the very first day.. still not solved by great Mi..
The problem still persist even though I updated my device to Oreo today, problem still exist in Chrome browser but not Firefox browser, buzz sound can still be heard when wearing earpiece, so it seems to be not a hardware issue.
Example of video playing with buzz sound in Chrome browser is in the link below. Buzz sound can be observed around timestamp at 0:50 of the video.

It's seems that some updates solved the buzzing sound issue. I no longer experience the issue anymore at the moment, but I couldn't be sure whether it is fixed by OS update or browser update.
