Hi all!
For a long time I had been searching for a ROM, that would be able to manage virtual buttons on my Nexus 4. Finally, I found what I need in Slim ROM. It is very good ROM, but now I want to use 4.4
So my question is: Is there any 4.4-based ROM, without any bugs, that can help me set my virtual buttons (their functions, and positioning)?
Thanks.
There are many roms that can do this, CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, AOKP and SlimRoms. There isn't a stable KitKat build for any of them yet. Look in the "Nexus 4 Original Android Development" section for updates. You can install the nightly versions if you wish.
You can also do this with stock using Gravity Box module for Xposed Framework, which isn't working for KitKat yet.
All 4.4 KitKat roms have bugs including stock from Google: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527705

Thank you for the complete answer :good:
I just want to post the exactly same question,
because I love the change virtual nav buttons and have 4 with long and short press action,
I tested many 4.4 but not found any rom in 4.4 who let me change the soft buttons..
Well, for now Xposed framework is up for Android 4.4 Kitkat and you can use GravityBox. But without Xposed I personaly use latest SlimKat Alpha 1.4. The bugs are getting sloved quickly, and modyfing the soft buttons is very easy. I would recommend SlimKat for everyone.
Hy again,
I tried roms what you recommend, but I have one question/ request because none of them have an option to enable a Menu button like on my screenshot
Can someone explain why ? He just let me enable the ugly 3dot menu button
Thanks a lot
P.s.: is it possible via xposed ?

As a first query, I would like to ask how can I show battery percentage with the icon? Can't seem to find the option? And are there not any pie specific preferences to make 2 layers etc?

Pie control doesn't have preference, you can start it with click the "immersive mode" tile
Reset preference: Go in settings, backup & restore, reset preference
Hover doesn't have preference, can start with click the second icon in the notification bar
Peek show the last notification if you move the device when the screen is off, start in Settings, Display, Peek notification
If I've forget something let me know

Actually it had in SlimROM. Anyway, no matter. I didn't know about peek notification - going to check it. How much battery life are you getting?

@Cornhelius
Yes, you can flash #5 directly.
Is there any problem with gaming?? I installed "escape from rio" game and there were no levels are visible.... I had same problem "slimkat LBL' but there was no problem in cm11 nightly (my last rom used) but gaming performance is better on stock kernel based rom like slimkat LBL & paranoid LBL...

NOTE: I am also building with LINARO 4.8 right now. Meaning, even more preformance increase in theory, but you guys will test and report.
Once i get enough feedback, then 4.8 will be our default toolchain going forward. (Until i test 4.9, that is )

Just tested, any mic doesn't work... My patch didn't work very well...
To fix it you must change a line in build.prop:
persist.audio.handset.mic=digital
to
persist.audio.handset.mic=analog
Sorry for inconveinience.
I'll upload a fixed build soon, but until that comes, you will have to change that line in build.prop.

First you need root, xposed installer ..see here
after those follow the steps
Steps:
download xhalo floating module for lollipop from here
now install and enable the module in xposed installer
give root permission to xhalo and reboot
now install floatification app from here [this is trial ,you need to get full version]
now after installing full version ,open app goto settings and tick Launch App in Halo window
in app notifications select the apps[select the pin icon also in that] you want to used as halo mode[for example see attachment]
now goto phone settings and click accessibility,in that turn ON floatification and reboot
And Result will be like in attachment pic..

Sorry for testing it on another device, but it is working as expected. Device used: Motorola Razr HD Android version 5.1.

His latest version messed up..
Use v1.7.5 floatifications.. That is the best he gave
Do you have a reliable source for this older version?
I tried it with version 1.7.5
It looks very nice. Awesome functionality.
Later I discovered a serious problem.
After moving chathead I had two chatheads on the screen. If you reboot in this state phone will stuck in boot circle. Only solution I found was reflash firmware.
Because moving of chathead could be done acidently this bug was too major for me. I decided to not use the (otherwise) wonderful feature.
Would be nice to have a stable version.

It is ultra rare to show two chathead, and if they come, just force close the floatifications that's all..
Btw turn on floatifications in the accessibility
Thanks for the advice. For me two chatheads appears more or less allways. Anyway, I'll give it a try.
Now I'm using the new version of Floatification app. With this one you can't accidently move the chathead. (Even if you do there are no double chatheads with this version).
The app is full of small bugs. Right now I'm fighting with adding a new app to chatheads. Chatheads simply not updated even if I press "Set Standard" which restarts the service. Closing floatification app doesn't help, too.
The features it provides are GREAT but I hope there will be an update.

I've been a stock user my entire time with my previous Nexus 5 and my current Nexus 6P, but since google decided not give us the latest and greatest software this time around I think it's time I rooted so I can get the complete pixel experience but I'm kind of lost, I see a lot posts and kernels and I don't know what to chose so can someone help me out so I can be running the complete pixel software.
Pixel Launcher with now tab
Google Assistant
The new dialer
The new live wallpaper
The new moves settings
Night light
Anything else I've forgotten
If someone can guide me I'd really appreciate it.
No one? Someone must have this setup and share how he/she did it
you can goto http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/themes-apps/flashable-zip-pixel-launcher-goodies-t3484455 google drive link and download pixel launcher 7.1.1 MRL then flash zip in twrp
the only thing missing is navbar isnt themed so go ahead and get substratum and download N Navbar off playstore and apply N Navbar Circle
after that..
go into your build.prop and find ro.product.model= Nexus 6p and make it say Pixel XL
then add this line underneath it ro.opa.eligible_device=true
save and reboot, goto google app clear data, long press home to set up google assistant.
reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/guide-how-to-enable-google-assistant-t3477879
fingerprint mod can be an app http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-fingerprint-to-unlock-t3466549
if you want night light your gonna have to disregard first link and apply this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/flashable-zip-night-light-round-icons-t3486794
its also same thing just minor differences
rounded icons are still in the works
and ofcorse you will need to enroll into beta and grab 7.1.1 after that unlock ur bootloader and after that root it up , or unlock your bootloader first .. anything can

it is not a TWRP flashable zip , you have to extract the content of the zip & then flash the content trough fastboot ,
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash system_b system_other.img (if your main slot is a then flash with this command)
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
with fastboot binary inside the unziped folder , or cd to the directory if you are on linux ,
hope this helps .

How do you unlock the bootloader of sailfish updated to Android Q? There's a decent amount of people who're saying that the manufacturers shipped it with a locked bootloader in order to prevent the use of custom ROMS.

No Pixel Launcher! (EDIT: I am using gestures, see below.) There are some apps that add that capacity. I'm trying to restore the Pixel Launcher with TiBu but haven't been successful yet.

@kkjb gives info about how to add it back above but I haven't figured that out yet either. I've been having problems installing apk's on 10. I get a "Sorry, no application available"
EDIT: ES File Explorer and perhaps other file managers that haven't been updated to work with 10 don't work. Amaze or the native file manager works, as do others I expect that are designed to work with the scoped memory framework of 10.

Research the differences between AOSP, Code Aurora (CAF) and stock Google. Then with custom roms that are built either from stock or aosp, you'll know what to expect. I'll give a quick overview for you.
AOSP is pure Android. While heavily influenced by Google, it's 100% open source and free to modify. It includes no extra apps, no Google, nothing. The only thing on this rom that says Google is the search bar on the home screen, and I'm fairly sure that's only for dev testing because there's not even a browser really, it's just AOSP's webview. AOSP is the cleanest, simplest system you can get. It should have the least bugs and also the least features. It literally doesn't include a browser. CAF is basically optimized AOSP. It's Qualcomm directed so optimizations can be done on the Snapdragon chips. You will rarely see AOSP without CAF code because no one likes an unoptimized phone. Qualcomm produces optimization code because they make the chips, Google adds Android features like gesture navigation because Google is on the software side, and the end result is stock Android. The main advantage to AOSP is a clean system. The only Google apps on there are the ones you install yourself. This is my preferred method since I like to add things one at a time, and if there are any issues I remove the last thing I added. There's no extra background stuff I have to sort through if I have an app crash or battery drain. The counter is that I get zero extra features, I must add them all myself. On this rom for example, gestures must be activated (the apks are in fact present in the system), no pixel launcher, no play store, no Find My Device, nothing extra. OP included a vendor image for Mind the Gapps. These are open source implementations of Google apps, but the apps themselves still use Google's proprietary code. Necessary to still use proprietary code if you want everything to work like stock. Open Gapps is one I've used a lot, still fits my preference because it only installs base Google framework, allowing you to choose what Gapps you install. For example, Play Music which I never use is typically just taking up space on my phone and can't normally be uninstalled. With Open Gapps, it's not installed by default in the pico package, and I can install and uninstall play music at will. This is base knowledge for installing custom roms. If you just want things to work, stick to stock. But I've found I get better battery life with AOSP/ Lineage and minimal Gapps. Lineage has more bugs than stock. Pros and cons, pick your poison.
OP- Not underwhelmed, I'm overjoyed. This is exactly what I wanted. Nice and clean, the only extras are what I personally add. My tether options are greyed out, does anyone know how to enable them? It can't be a rom issue, everything works. Just a build.prop edit I'm assuming?
