Android Wear with my Moto 360 is consistently killing my T-Mobile Xperia Z3's battery life every day. Yesterday it used over 35% of the total battery, topping out Screen-On time in the battery listings. This morning it has already killed 28% and its barely 11AM.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? Its making my Z3 die way earlier than it should and its ruining my Z3 experience.
I had the same issue when I first setup my lg android wear watch. The following resolved my issues.
Don't use stamina mode - personally I get worse battery life with it enabled.
Uninstalled android wear app with watch still paired then reinstalled.
After both those steps my android wear app uses next to no battery.

I don't have this issue, I just did a normal install and pairing. I also have the 360, and its pretty much paired all day.

No real effect on battery for my gear live
I was having the same problem with the Android Wear app causing major battery drain, but it would only happen at my office when on corp wifi. When I would turn off wifi, usage would drop back to normal levels. I have very limited notifications going to the watch.
How was I measuring this? My 'normal' battery drain is 165mA (measured using Battery Monitor Widget Pro). When the problem was happening, my usage would go to 665mA and I would burn through the battery pretty fast.
I had tried to reset the watch.... no change.
I tried reseting and not reloading apps... no change.
A couple of days ago though, I uninstalled the Android Wear app itself from my phone and then reloaded it and set everything back to the way it was prior to deleting the app. I'm a little surprised to report that it seems to have cleared the issue. My battery usage is now back in the 165mA range where it used to be. I'm crossing my fingers that this holds up!
I got a G watch and it did not affected the battery life. I guess trough the day I spent around 5% more juice from my Z3
There is a known issue with some corporate WiFi networks (and possibly other secure locations). For security, a lot of places will block all DNS traffic not going to the internal servers. If this is the case at your work, the Android Wear app is constantly trying to connect to the Google DNS servers and failing. The app should fall back onto the DHCP assigned DNS servers, but it doesn't do that. An easy fix is to turn off WiFi. I usually have to reboot the phone to stop the drain.
I had this issue at first as well, but after a bit of resetting and repairing, the watch barely uses any battery. I leave the Stamina mode on and even after moderate to heavy use and 10 hours of being off the charger, I still have about 50 percent left at the end of a work day.
I was having heavy battery drain only with stamina mode enabled. I allowed android wear app to run in stamina mode and usage is is now not even taking 1%
Use a Moto 360 with mine, lots of email and chat notifications all day for work. 9 hours into my day i'm at 66% battery.

I had this same issue with my Z3c and now my Z3, turning off stamina mode solved this for me!

Same combo for me, never had a problem with battery life. I returned the Z3 because of the camera but I miss that mofo. Now I'm back on my N5 which does not have great battery life to say the least.

I ended up having to reset both devices and start fresh. Back to great battery life on both devices. Now if I could just figure out the why....

I keep seeing a huge battery drain from "cell standby" and "bluetooth".
I have wi-fi on all the time, I use bluetooth only when driving (no streaming), and I tried Greenify with no improvement.
Are there any known bugs with this? I am running 6.0.1 on T-Mobile.

I rarely use bluetooth but I do have high cell standby like yours. I also have no idea why since it happened to other androids out there even on nexuses and it seems started since lollipop. my guess is, it happened in previous android versions but not displayed until lollipop. I don't care much about it now since I'm getting around 6 hours of SOT within 2 days of usage which is great, at least for me.
I get about 2.5 hrs SOT and have to top up in the evenings pretty often. For a 48-hour rated phone, I feel like something's not right.
What kind of bike is that?

Judging from your screenshot, it looks like the phone was struggling with cell signal strength. This is one of the main battery drainer other than gps and playing games. When the signal strength is low, the phone increases the radio power to get better reception, thus draining battery faster.

Same issue with mine as well, battery drains like hell from this bug but tower is always full. I use vodafone.
This did happen to me in the last one week. I got only 3.5 hrs screen on time, however my phone went three days without charge (I didn't use it much anyway, was busy with work). Checked BetterBatteryStats on my phone and it showed the poor mobile signal to be one of the major battery drainers. It's weird because until 10 days back I never had this poor mobile signal reception.
3.5 hours SOT within 3 days is considered great already. Some phones barely last a day with that amount of SOT.
i've also had this problem since i bought this phone. My mobile standby is always over 10-15% when the signal is always full and there is never a single bar drop. I've tried switching to 2g/3g/4g but problem persists every time. I've also tried many custom roms but this problem remains. I think this has to do something with hardware of this phone. I cant even get it replaced or repaired at service centre since i've rooted and unlocked boot loader. If anybody finds a solution please post. It will be much appreciated.
I also had this problem initially.To get rid of this problem put your phone in airplane mode for few minutes,then turn your mobile network on.For the bluetooth issue,go to settings - location - three dots top right - scanning - uncheck WiFi and Bluetooth.

thanks a lot man. this actually solved the problem, I would have never though the solution was so easy, although I have to repeat the procedure with every reboot but its still better than nothing. I do hope devs come up with a permanent solution to this issue.

I have been having an issue with my Motorola X Play (UK Single Sim) I have only owned it for a few months from new.... The battery is draining fast and I can see in the battery stats that it's not sleeping, otherwise the battery usage page shows nothing of interest, apart from perhaps Mobile Standby which is quite high, above the screen but the signal bar is all green...
I rooted my phone to better find out what was causing these issues, otherwise stock Marshmallow. Unfortunately Motorola now are not interested as they say my phone is rooted and now has no warranty - useless idiots!
Using GS Sam battery monitor (rooted) I can see that the following is keeping the phone awake, no other app is.

don't tell them your device is rooted. if you go to service center just re-lock the bootloader and its back to normal.[it won't get your warranty back but they don't check that much]
can you post a screenshot of gs sam.
1 - Install BetterBatteryStats (BBS) - this will give you detailed information on what is draining your battery. Get it from XDA v2.2.0.0B6 - this gives you the detailed breakdown in the UI that you are after, the google play version doesn't do it in the UI (older version).
Get baseline results (charge it full, don't touch it for 5-6 hours) I like to do this while sleeping.
2 - Install Greenify (you don't need the Xposed module if you don't want to fiddle with that yet, alto I highly recommend it) set the working mode to root. If applications are still not sleeping, add the widget and force sleep everything before you turn off your screen
Get BBS results (do the 5-6 hours while sleeping) - improved?
3 - Install Naptime from the google play store (by Fransico Franco)
Get BBS results - improved?
Getting anal about battery usage?
4- Read up on Amplify - this yielded even more results for me. But this can take a bit of work to get right. There's a lot of great threads on XDA for setting this up.
5 -Smart network - allows you to control data, networks, wifi, bluetooh, nfc, gps on/off with a ton of great features for auto. management.
I have all the above and yield a 0.4%/hr drain on stand by (see signature for phone build).
Amplify is a god sent app. It has been 4 hours now, and I have been using whatsapp on and off (about 20 seconds each time) and I still have 97% left in the tank.

Facebook app has been known to cause serious battery drain in the past. Uninstall it and test again.
In 99% of the cases it is caused by an app. Try to find out which one is causing the drain.

Sorry for the delay and thanks for the replies. I performed a factory reset again, after clearing the cache etc, the same as I did last time. The only difference is I then installed Android 6.0.1
The battery drain has now gone. I didn't perform a restore of apps etc, and the only apps I have installed so far in addition have been Facebook and Facebook messenger but I have found these have had no effect at all on the battery drain. I haven't even updated the stock apps (apart from the security ones).
I now get two days of use easy. It also seems to be running slightly faster. I will update apps one by one, over the course of a few days to make sure nothing causes it again...

I use this guide, works really great to limit wake locks.
And I don't use Fb app but use the browser instead, battery lasts easily two days of "heavy" usage !
I found the problem, or at least a major bug. Whenever you cast to Google Chromecast Audio and then stop casting completely there is a massive wakelock until you next restart the phone. My phone was awake all night and down to 20% battery life. Android OS takes a massive portion of the battery life and under keep awake stats it's 9 hours +. It seems that when it says disconnected it is not. A major bug! I'll try and report it using Google's bug reporter...

not even Doze could kill it? perhaps you could try Servicely and see if it could stop the thing from running.

Nope, Doze had no affect at all but it should be as it was sitting stationary overnight - normally the drain overnight is a few percent at the most, last night it was around 65% and I was left with 20% in the morning and this was I think the first time I had used Google Chromecast Audio since the factory reset with great battery life up to last night... I could try Servicely but I am not sure on the service to kill and I'd like to keep it 100% stock for now so I can help out Google to fix the bug (or Motorola if they bother)... What a pain as I just bought 4x Google Chromecast Audios!!

However I am not sure if this is a Motorola Issue or a Google Marshmallow / Chromecast issue?? Motorola support have been very unhelpful so no luck if that is the case...

There's a post on reddit about battery drain with chromecast audio about a year ago, not sure if it's the same issue though.

No Bluetooth, No Location - Yes WiFi, LTE 100% signal coverage, no downtime, overall low brightness around 25-40% I can't seem to get past a day of regular use with 2 hours and half average screen time. Using latest OTA.
I've turned off the always-on screen, several bloatware that came preinstalled, including Facebook and Whatsapp.
The first on the battery usage is always Android System followed by Cell Standby then Android OS (again???) and then Screen. Also the voice call seems to use some great amount of battery. Naming might be different since my Android is in another language.
Have turned on energy saving for most apps that runs on background. Doesn't help much since I don't have many apps that runs on background. Imagine if I did! My day ends with about 20~27% battery left, I just turned off fast charging to see if it helps anything. My Xperia Z3 with Whatsapp and a great deal of apps installed would end the day with over 50~65% with Stamina Mode. I know the screen is smaller but so is the battery.
So I thought it would get better with time but it didn't, it's the S7 Edge Exynos Single SIM, unbranded with the official Samsung rom so I could get the latest updates or I would be stuck with no updates at all since Frebuary, since my carrier usually only releases major OTAs such Android N and skips all the minor updates.
Yes I did a factory reset already hoping for the better, maybe I got a defective Galaxy S7? I'd hate to have my phone fixed and the battery changed, it wont be the same again unless they give me a new one which is unlikely.
Why is Android System and Android OS draining so much battery? Are there any tools to debug this and trace which processes are using CPU time? Or could this be due a faulty battery?
Settings, Applications, Google. Disable all the services that will cause wakelocks such as all security options. This is something 99% of folks overlook or forget. Post a screenshot of your battery stats

Here is an average day with:
**Few moments connected to my laptop transferring pictures from yesterday - so incidentally it took some charge on the way.
1 hour 29 minutes voice call, 3G/LTE signal is excelent, VoLTE not used, WiFi on occasionaly, Location off, Bluetooth off.
1 hour 12 minutes running Fallout Shelter with power saving on, 30 fps low resolution mode, that's the CPU time at least.
2hour 28 minutes screen time with very dim brightness​
Power saving ON all apps where available, I have absolutely nothing installed but a couple of games, Teamviewer and Microsoft Remote Desktop.
That left me with 49% battery. Not sure how great the results are considering the brightness was very low.

Dont quote me on this but I believe the Android System drain issue is a byproduct of the latest Samsung firmware update...

Just some heads up, in offline mode my phone went a full day with a 6% drop, half hour screen time and some minor gaming, when I turned the phone radio back on around 20:00 when it was 10:00AM it was down to 15% battery, solely on standby. No bluetooth No location - Yes Wireless Yes LTE

One of the things I've noticed since first using android on the original galaxy S (Sprint / Evo and Epic 4G) is that android seems to lag super hard after about 6-12 months. This also seems to coincide with crazy battery drain. The problem is that this doesn't seem to be hardware or even OS version-specific. It's happened on every single one of my android phones since 2010. Every year i get a new phone and think that it'll be different this time, but every year the lag and battery drain appears again after around 6 months of use. When I do a hard reset it's solid and responsive for around 6 months again, then the lag and battery drain comes back.
Specifically, the lag is the type where you hit the home button or open the google search app and it takes between 2 and 15 seconds to actually open. This is especially bad when using google maps in the car. The phone sometimes takes upward of 10 seconds to respond to things unless i reboot and force close all apps (and then the lag comes back after an hour or so).
The battery drain is where I regularly drain 40-90% of my battery life within 3 hours, sometimes with minimal screen on time. Most recently, I had my phone screen off for 3 straight hours on wifi with bluetooth and GPS on and battery drain was about 7-8% per hour. A look at the battery stats often reveals that top battery drain processes include, "Android System," "Android OS," "Google Play Services," "Phone Idle," and "Screen."
The only thing consistent since 2010 is the use of an SD card and some of the apps I have installed. I've removed the SD card and it still lags though, so I'm thinking it's probably a rogue app? The thing is, when you go to battery stats, there aren't really any high-cpu-usage apps there that would explain either the high battery drain or the lag. And I dont think Android N allows us to track CPU usage of individual apps, so I cant even use a battery stats app to figure out what's hogging the CPU.
Anyone else have any experience with this? Any ideas would be super helpful. Thanks.

Hi. I'm currently looking into this with my V20 H910. I've had decent battery life on my phone until a few months ago. The past few weeks I'm charging my phone about 3 times a day because of the battery drain. I disabled auto-sync, uninstalled some pull-type apps but nothing helps. I've charged my phone to 85% (recommendation for battery life according to accubattery app) and when I wake up the phone is completely dead. During the day I'll have it next to me with the display off and I'll lose around 50% battery in a couple hours.
If anyone out there can help I'd / we'd appreciate it!!!
Going to move this thread to the V20 Q/A section so hopefully you guys get some more help. I have a V20 myself and don't have these issues.

The best app in the world to figure out battery drain exists thanks to one of the members here who has been banging away at it for over seven years.
It's called better battery stats. This is the only app that gives you half a chance of figuring out where the drain is occurring.

Battery stats in android is a toy, it tells you very little.

The drain is high but why did you have GPS on with the screen off. See, its hard to tell if that is normal or not depending on what GPS was doing.
What's your drain like with screen off, on wifi & bluetooth and no GPS
