No Bluetooth power gauge? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All my last few phones (LG G3,G4) would display a useful power gauge for connected Bluetooth headphones, but my 6p doesn't. Was that a proprietary feature outside standard Bluetooth? The 6p is BT 4.2, which is newer than the the 4.1 in my older phones so I expect red the same functionality at least.
This, plus lack of AptX, is disappointing.

Weird A2DP issues only with certain headphones

My wife and I both have G1s (not rooted) running the official OTA version of Android 1.5. We also both own stereo bluetooth headphones (hers is an older Logitech, mine is a year old Sony).
These headphones behave pretty differently when connected, and these differences remain the same regardless of which handset we're using so I'm assuming the difference is in the headphones themselves.
Her older Logitech model is very reluctant to connect after it's been paired. It usually requires restarting both the phone and the headphones a few times before it will finally hold a connection. Otherwise, it just shows "Connecting..." then "Paired but not connected", alternating back and forth every ten seconds or so when we're trying to set them up.
When her headphones finally do connect, the sound quality is fine but her entire system is slowed down to basically unusable levels. Even something as simple as selecting a new album from the music player app is rendered nearly impossible. These headphones seem to work fine on other A2DP devices, specifically an old T-Mobile Dash that we had sitting around, but had the same effect on both G1s.
My Sony headphones connect nearly instantly every time we try them, and while it does seem to create some mild slowdown from time to time it is nothing like the unusably slow system that the Logitech headphones create. Does anybody know why different bluetooth headphones would affect the system so differently?
While I can't offer insight as to why this happens, I can substantiate your original observations. I have a pair of Motorola S9's, and they periodically have difficulty connecting to the phone, requiring powering cycling both the headphones and bluetooth.
The phone also takes a performance hit and I even experience severe music skipping while doing anything intensive on the phone (browsing heavy websites and the like).
These headphones work fine with other A2DP phones.
Edit: I am on the Ion build.
I ended up solving this problem by buying a second pair of Sony headphones for my wife, but I'm still interested in learning what could have possibly caused this dramatic difference between them if anybody has any insight.
If anybody's interested, the headphones that work well were a pair from Sony: DR-BT22 is the model number. They're pretty good and $30 on Amazon right now if anybody needs to replace a set that is causing slowdowns.

Bluetooth problem?

I have a Kenwood DNX6190HD deck that is on the most up to date firmware for both bluetooth and software. My Note 2 synced up no problem on stock touchwiz and even on 4.3 Paranoid Android rom. My Note 3 won't pair up. I can see the Kenwood deck in my list of devices but when I select it to pair I get the code on the phone but nothing on the Kenwood deck so it fails every time. Does anyone else have bluetooth problems? Or does anyone know why it may be having this problem?
No idea but my note isn't connecting to this external speakers I got lying around the house. Old phone did.

I'm also having an issue associating my old Bluetooth headphones. They associate to several devices just fine (old galaxy nexus, friends windows phone, ect.) but it refuses to be detected by the Note 3.
These are the headphones I'm using.
Is this because the Bluetooth 2.0 technology in the headphones doesn't play well with the Bluetooth 4.0LE tech in the Note 3?

EDIT #1: After doing some research in Wikipedia I found the following:
The Bluetooth low energy protocol is not backward compatible with the previous (often called 'Classic') Bluetooth protocol. The Bluetooth 4.0 specification permits devices to implement either, or both, of the LE and Classic systems. Those that implement both are known as Bluetooth 4.0 dual-mode devices.[3]
Bluetooth LE uses the same 2.4 GHz ISM band radio frequencies as Classic Bluetooth, which allows dual-mode devices to share a single radio antenna. LE does, however, use a simpler modulation system.
Does anyone know if the Note 3 has the LE and classic systems that allow for back compat or do we just have the LE antenna?
EDIT #2: I just wanted to update after I've been testing a few different Bluetooth products. It seems that this phone works with the majority of newer products from Bluetooth speakers to headphones to in car AUX dongles. There is a small segment of 'outdated' tech out there that the LE technology does not play well with but the majority of devices that have been released in the past 3 or so years should work fine.
I've tested out the following products with no issues:
Bluetooth Car AUX dongle
Bluetooth Speaker
Bluetooth Headphones
Saddens me to know that LE is not backwards compatible. I guess it's back to plugging my aux cable in again.

Samsung Level Link Wireless BT Adapter

Does anyone use the Samsung Level Link Wireless Adapter?

When connected to your Note 4 via jack lead and set to "Send", are you able to play/pause on your BT earbuds/headphones or play/pause, Rew/FF, Vol up/Down on the adapter?
I can't.
If I connect the adapter (Receive mode) to wired earbuds and connect via BT to the phone, I can use all the controls on the adapter. But, nothing on the wired earbuds.
Does anyone else have the same "problem" as me or do you have full controls on the adapter/earbuds in Send/Receive modes?
I'm more interested in using the adapter wired to the phone and in Send mode.

and the link is no exception.
this makes sense because the layout and signals of 3.5mm headset connectors(4 "rings") varies between different brands/models.
3.5mm stereo connectors(3 "rings") are standardized, and can be easily exchanged between devices made in the last few decades.
samsung uses a headset connector on their wired headset because they make those only for their phones, but the level link is made for devices from all brands and therefore needs to be built for compatibility and consistency.
compare the plug on the wired headset included with your phone with the plugs on the headphone and connector cable included with the link, and you'll notice the headset has an extra ring.

I haven't noticed the number of rings before. Would it be worth buying a double ended 3.5mm jack cable with 3 rings at each end?
it's not worth it.
if they didn't bother with a 4th line in a tiny cable, they wouldn't bother adding a 4th contact in the link's port or the software to make use of that contact.

I did a little test, and if you have a 2nd aptx capable headset you can almost completely cut out the delay caused by the transcoding.
I tested with a level link wired to my phone and later my 3DS and paired with my LG Tone infinim, and I was definitely getting the "30 ms or less" delay that's promised with aptx low latency.
using the level link with a headset like the tone infinim is really the best way to get wireless audio when playing games on a handheld device like a smartphone or 3DS.

The case cuts out a lot of the BT signal (some days everything plays fine and others constant break ups). Either that, or the BT strength signal fro my Note 4 isn't that strong.
The Level Link cured the break ups, but I loose playback control.
perhaps a smartwatch could take care of the controls.
smartwatches are a lot less demanding with their signal strength.
I use a pebble time steel, but all pebbles are great for music controls.

I've been looking at smartwatches, but I either can't justify the cost for the usage I'd get from it or there's always a better one coming soon.
Ideally, I'd want a metal bracelet and Google Wear 2 compatible.
I'll look again, nearer to the release of Google Wear 2 and see what's available... or rumoured to be coming soon.

Connect 2 BT devices of the same type, like earbuds, at the same time to same phone?

Was wondering if there is anyway around not being able to connect two bluetooth devices "of the same type" to my Nexus 6P?
For example, my wife and I want to listen to an audiobook playing from my Nexus 6P on our own separate bluetooth earbuds. It appears this is not possible.
I know it is possible to connect two bluetooth devices of "different" types, such as earbuds and a wireless keyboard, but it appears you cannot connect two of the "same" type.
Any apps or workarounds for this?
And, is this a limitation of the Nexus 6P? Of the operating system (I am also using Android O beta, and same problem)? Or a limitation of Bluetooth protocol?
I think it's a limitation of Bluetooth itself. Bluetooth 5 will bring support for 2 audio devices at the same time.
True, you would need a device with Bluetooth 5 and accessories bt5 compatible. The new Galaxy S8 & + have bt5...

Shield upgrade to Oreo causes my Sony receiver source/output icons to blink...

My oldish HDMI Sony Receiver is constantly getting the audio source signal from my Shield rapidly on and off. Every second the speakers icon is blinking as if the sound connection is being sent then unsent. This occurs when the audio isn't being sent to the receiver, ie when I have Bluetooth headphones on or when idle at the home screen. My worry is this is going to over work my HDMI board or the receiver itself.
I shared this on Reddit and a few other people had this issue. It also never occurred before the recent large Oreo update.
