Has anyone noticed images being *soft* burnt into the screen? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Running the latest official 5.1.1 build and it seems to only happen since then.
Sometimes I'll open an app, and when I close it it leaves an image (ghost like, not fully opaque) of the previous app on the screen, as if it's been burned into the screen like you get with Plasma screens if you leave the same image on for a long time. If I turn the screen off and turn it back on, the image of the previous app even shows on the lock screen.
When I reboot it's fine though.
I haven't tried to take a screenshot yet to see if the image appears on there. Anyone else noticed this?

Yea I noticed this since I bought the phone

[Q] Droid X Screen Problem - Hardware or Software?

The phone has been working very well, no problems of any kind. It is rooted and I'm using Go Launcher along with Widget Locker for the lock screen.
I just updated the Widget launcher application and everything was working just fine.
However, the last time I woke the phone, the display was bonkers. The lower 1/3 of the screen was grey, over writing the icons for the functions located there on the home screen. When I scroll through the home screens, the lower 1/3 continues to be greyed out. However on close inspection, the underlying icons can bee seen and are activated with a touch as normal.
The overwriting seems to be somewhat of a repeat of the top 1/3 of the screen. With the moto lock screen there is a digital clock displayed in the upper part of the screen and that is showing up in the lower third also.
This greying out is more like a Ghosting effect. The screen also has a general background flicker in the upper section that is not greyed out or ghosted over. I did nothing like dropping the phone or dunking it. This does have what I would somewhat characterize as connection issue. BWDIK.
Does anyone have any idea as to what could have caused this to pop up as a problem? The new version of Widget Locker seemed to be doing just fine and I had configured it to take more icons in the ICS default theme. Everything was going great until it suddenly was not.
Suggestions or accounts of similar problems would be appreciated. I sure hope there is a cure. The phone has been great and darned capable. I'd hate to have to change it out.
Reboot your phone.
If that doesnt work, make a backup in Clockwork and wipe data.
If that doesn't work, it's hardware related.

Thanks for the help.
Could you be a little more specific as to how to make the backup and then restore?
I've restarted the phone several times. That won't clear it up.
Download droid2bootsrtap>install>flash recovery>reboot recovery
Scroll to backup/restore (use vol keys select w/ camera key)
Select backup, let it do it's thing
Select wipe data
Reboot
Thanks for the additional help.
That did not seem to get the job done for me. I still have the problem with the top third of the screen being displayed again as an overwrite of the bottom third.
One odd thing did occur while I was working on this. I had the phone connected to the charger. It was in "sleep" mode with a dark screen. I picked up the phone, pushed the wake up button top. and at the same time I disconnected from the charger. When the screen first displayed it was displaying correctly and clearly with no overwrite. I don't believe I have a failed display in the sense of dead sections or pixels. It seems that there is some cross connection in how it is being addressed so that the upper one third is being written twice, one of those being an overwrite of the lower one third. The icons that should be showing in the lower third dispaly are visible through the "fog" created by the overwrite.
I have contacted the local smartphone Mr. Fixit and ordered the new screen. The problem may be deeper than that though. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I like the way the phone operates and am getting to understand it after about a year of working with it. It is rooted with the handy WiFi tether operating, along with a few simple customizations. It would be great to get it sorted out as I don't want to go the upgrade route at this time.
Have you tried reSBFing? I had a similar problem, except the lower 3/4 of screen went black. Got an insurance replacement, but when i was wiping my old phone, i SBFd, and the screen worked again. Granted, i still had to send the phone in, so no idea how long it would've lasted.

Nothing to do with SBF'ing. The phone is rooted, and it worked the first time, several months prior to the problem.
I finally got the screen replaced and that part is working well. Nice and bright with no ghosting of another section. However, I now have developed a problem with the dialer turning off the screen when the call starts dialing. No capability of using number pad or even hitting the End Call button. Returns to the default lockscreen when call ends from a disconnect on the other end. still a great mystery.
Question: how's your camera working?

[Q] Random Reboots and Screen Wake

My nexus 7 has been randomly rebooting a lot lately. I have no idea why. I haven't even rooted or unlocked the bootloader or anything on this. I haven't installed any new apps for like a month probably so I don't think it's an app.
Also, my screen wakes up on it's own quite frequently. See the attached screenshot. Notice how often the screen is on, there's like a million lines for it turning on and off. And this is while I'm asleep and not doing anything with it.
I can't think of any app that causes this because I haven't installed any apps in forever. Not a root or unlock issue because I haven't done either. I have a case with a magnet in it to turn the screen on and off. I don't think it's that because I took it out of the case and I still saw it happen.
Any ideas on what is causing this?
I had one too hope its only 1 and screen wake maybe caused by some application you have installed, try reinstalling rom and without installing anything you will notice no screen wake

Few questions about regular using

1. I've notice that sometimes when I put off the charger from device and 'playing' with it the screen time not counting! only after I turn off and on screen its start counting the screen time.... also if I reboot/turn off-on device, if I won't turn off and then on the screen it won't count the time the screen is on.
Its not happens all the time, but most of the time it is... Why is it happens?
2. Today I had it for the first time (hope the last time also) - I downloaded a game via Play and at home screen I tried to pull down the notification bar/status bar and it wasn't respond.
I tried to change to horizontal mode and it didn't work also, I've checked that touching responds in these areas and seems works properly.
I tried force close launcher still didn't work - the area on this status is changed - the time is update well, also the notifications seems not stucking, only can't swipe it down (one nor two fingers).
The only way I've found to fix it is reboot the device, then it back work fine.
Anyone have any idea why is it happens?
3. On camera (stock app), taking few pictures in sequence with flash on (notice that when I took pictures on low light/dark place while photo taken with flash) rebooting the device. Seems like there is a bug with the flash module. maybe with stock camera app - but when you take few pictures (lets say 10 pictures sometime more, nothing costant) with flash the device freeze and reboot itself.... Why is that?
I'm using stock 4.2.2, no root or bl opened..
Anyone notice one (or some) of these issues? And/Or anyone have any idea why these (or some of these) happens?
Thanks.

Looks like a hardware issue. My friend's Xperia neo used to reboot on using flash. they replaced the phone then.

Maybe, but Im not the only who facing this issue... (about the flash)
I guess you don't have nexus 4 so you can't check it...
Anyone else notice any of the issues that I've mention and/or have any idea why is that happens?
Some people have the flash issue with 4.4 too.. seems like google didn't fix it.
Anyone else face one/some of these issues and has opinions on possible solutions?

weird screen took over my phone after update

My phone updated to build APL6 this morning, when it finished it was just black with an installing applications screen. None of the buttons worked. I was finally able to double tap the home key to open the camera, take a picture and then view it. Swiping over allowed me to finally get to the lock screen but it would just unlocked back to the same screen. I eventually fixed it doing that over and over while trying to get into the recent app window. Just wondering if anybody else knows what it is or has experienced this before.
Happened to me too. Eventually it finished but took a while.

Notifications showing up on both screens?

My phone shows ALL of my notifications for ALL of my apps on BOTH the second screen and primary screen. I tried turning the apps on silent and it didn't work. No one else seems to have this problem. It looks very cluttered on both screens and I want it to only show in the second screen. It used to do that fine when I bought the phone but a month later it stopped. My phone is not rooted and I didn't touch or download anything I shouldn't have. I turned it off to charge the phone one day and when I turned it back on this started happening.
Are you talking about the big heads-up notifications that appear at the top of the main screen?
I think those are just on by default, I don't know of a way to disable that from the UI, but you can do it through adb or a terminal emulator, root isn't required. See here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/manually-doing-ui-tuner-t3493986/post69510885.
I think thats part of the latest update. I have my phone rooted and currently using overdrive latest rom but in previous versions it didnt have that.
