Battery drain - Galaxy S3 Neo Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, i'm experiencing an high battery drain by like 2 weeks; i had the resurrection rom when the battery gradually started to lower the percentage really fast. I tried using all apps I could to improve battery but it was all useless. I restored stock rom and the problem is still here. At this point the battery itself should be the problem, right ?(but it's not that old, a year or so)

Replace your battery, it is probably damaged or wasted ( life cycle )

Yeppers. Or try to reflash the stock once more, and use it after 1 or 2 full charges. But dont install anything.

I once bought an extra battery, official samsung (i think), it doesn't have nfc. And it drains like crazy. It has also gotten a lot thicker, i can rock it back and forward on a flat surface. Meanwhile the battery that came with the phone still works like a charm. My phone is approximately 1 year old. Do you still have the original one, or is it another one? either way i also recommend to replace your battery, but watch out for the really cheap ones! (mine was around $6)

Battery drains faster than it should

Hello there,
I would really like some advice - my battery is draining like water. I'm quite convinced it is the regulation of the unit; I bought a 2400mAh battery replacement and it lasted ages on first go, but then my G1 started draining stupidly fast after I'd recharged it. This also happens on the stock battery too (buy even quicker!). I'm convinced it is the regulation because a) I've never had battery problems previously and b) the battery meter starts at about 26% when I plug it it in (after the phone shuts off from it being dead and I then plug in the charger).
I actually have a bricked G1 that still charges batteries, so I thought I'd do an overnight charge on the battery that way, to 'remind' the other G1 what a 100% battery is like, but that didn't seem to work either.
Can someone help? Is this a known problem? I would really appreciate any advice.

Things that cause ridiculous battery drain;
Backlight, keep it at no more than 30%
Wifi - turn off search for open networks,
Gps - wow does this drain

GPS doesn't really drain battery unless it's actively being used...at least not on my phone.
You can also try disabling 3G if you're not in a 3G area. It will keep trying to find a 3G signal, which really drains battery.
For the record, I have a stock battery that I get ~13-16 hours on from a single charge... my backlight is at 40%, GPS is always on, and I use wifi whenever I want to surf the web and am near an open network.
OP...if your battery is lasting you only a couple of hours, then I'd try to reflash your ROM. Might help...
Wow 13 to 16, I am lucky if I get 6 with 30% backlight, and wi-fi and gps off, I have always gotten that on ever rom even stock with no widgets, you are one of the very few with good battery life cause I have seen many complaints about short battery ranges

Yeah, that's on a normal, moderate usage day. If I use it heavily, with a lot of wifi and web browsing, then I'll get around 10.
Maybe your battery needs to be replaced... could just be old and not holding a charge properly.
It's 2 months old, has done it from day one, I also have another battery that does it too that I kept from a previously brick g1, so one 3 phones, all the same battery life but then I use it quite heavily, always browsing on the web since my computer burned out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555048
try that? 3rd gen battery could help..
Thanks for the suggestions, but it's not a wifi/3g/brightness etc problem - I've had a G1 for six months, I know exactly how much power should be consumed. It's also not the battery; I have two stock batteries and a brand new 2400mAh battery, which for the first few charges lasted about 2 - 2.5 days and was brilliant (as it should be), but now doesn't last all that long.
I may have made the situation slightly better however - I did a Nandroid backup, wiped to factory (well, Cyanogen 4.0.4 anyway) and booted into that. I then restored the backup and when I plugged back in to the charger, the meter was at 85%, and seemed to take a normal amount of time to charge (and not jump to 100%). It remains to be seen if the problem is solved, I've yet to have the battery drain (this is a good sign though) an plug in the charger to see if it will jump from 0 to 25 or not.
I'll re-post when I know.
run the battery down until the phone shuts off without plugging it in.
charge the battery while the phone is off over night
do this 3-5 times and see if you get any improvement.
also remember some of the cheap 2400 batts from ebay and such claim 2400 but that is from 3.5V to 3.0V. The G1 considers 3.2V to be dead so you only get from 3.5V to 3.2V which sucks.
I'm with gridlock on this one. My batteries suck. It always needs a mid day charge. And to the poster that said to reflash a rom, that is bad advice. There is known issues with getting poor performance out of these batteries. I have 2 and both do the same. Got the second one from complaining to t-mo about how bad it sucks.
Reflashing seems to have worked...the 2400mAh battery seems a lot better now, it lasted nearly two days (it runs at 3.7v, according to my battery diagnostic), I've only just recharged it last night. When I plug it in, it charges normally and linearly now, instead of jumping straight to 25%.
So my advice, if anyone is having similar problems to me, would be to try a reflash.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Battery problems?

I've had this phone for a while, and i just haven't been using it the past, ohh year? I tried a while back to fix it, and I know it's something to do with my phone/it's battery, It can stay in standby for about 26 hours, (no wifi, no sim card), but any phone call or wifi use lasting over ~5 minutes and the phone dies, but the phone reports that it still has about 30% battery left as it's shutting off!
Is it possible my phone isnt allowing my battery to charge fully?
I remember reading somewhere about the phone storing battery stats? I wanted to give fixing my battery one last try before I break down and order a new one :/
it's running CyanogenMod-4.2.15.1 (firmware 1.6)
so it has whatever ancient recovery comes with that, I would upgrade my phone but I don't trust it not to die during a flash and brick it.
To sum up the wall of text, my battery is dying from 80% in <5 minutes when not plugged in, and it dies when it says it has approx 20% battery left.
The battery is also sort of bulgey, perhaps, it's like 5/4 the size it should be? 9/8? , it makes a tiny bit of a bulge appear on the keyboard too.
Edit:
The recover has a green carebear with a nexus one logo on his (her?) tummy. RA-dream-v1.6.2
Same problem on official 1.6 rom + root. Battery or charging problem?
Certifiably battery here, i tried with my dad's battery and it seems okay, but i'm not entirely sure because i didnt have my sim card in it to test its usage lifespan
My G1 has terrible battery life, even when I'm not using it, I think the best solution is to buy a new battery

Yes I'm agree with AndyFox2011 view.Purchase a new battery .
Hm. SHould i get this battery:
http://www.amazon.com/Li-lon-Battery-HTC-G1-Google/dp/B001ZTZ92E/ref=pd_bxgy_cps_img_c
Or this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Extended-Capa..._1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1316633929&sr=1-2
or this one?I've heard more about this one than others I'm hesitant though, because i love having the hard cases on my phone, and i'm not sure it would fit
http://www.amazon.com/Seidio-Innoce..._1_3?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1316634086&sr=1-3
or is there another low cost ($20 or less) battery that you would recommend?
I'm no expert, but I'd go for one of the extended batteries, they'll last a,bit longer than a normal one

You should down the brightness.

[Q] Is the battery gone or miscalibrated?

hello everyone, I'm a new note owner, I bought it used and I think it has two years on it, but it is in great shape. I noticed however, that the battery life isn't that amazing as people have told me, this coming from a Galaxy alpha user. I will leave screenshots of today's battery life and I think it isn't that amazing what it got
I've heard about battery miscalibration, is this really a thing? I can try and calibrated but I need to root it, & I wasn't really looking forward to reading it, since its lollipop on stock rom.
The screenshots are bellow of screen on time and total time, you can see that it's not consistent and I charge my phone two times a day.
http://imgur.com/a/ShaLI
I'm using lollipop official rom flashed on Odin via download mode, yes the rom is compatible with my country's frequencies so there's not really a problem there.
I notice however that the battery sort of goes down faster sometimes more than others, sometimes even going as far as draining 10% simply being on stand-by with LTE enabled for 2 hours in my pocket when I'm in class.
Is this normal behavior?
I don't think there is any such thing called miscalibration, I mean I am not sure, but well.
If your phone is 2 years old, then I think the battery has seen its life, time to get a new one mate.
Battery recalibrates itself .
However as the battery is old then Drain the battery to 5% power off charge fully unplug wait one hour top up charge and use .
Next step is new battery Anker brand is good .
Wiping battery stats/ supposed calibration has nothing to do with battery calibration and will make no difference .
Lithium-ion batteries last about 300-500 charging cycles, after that the risk of it dying increases exponentially. Some last 5 years, some 1. It depends on usage and environmental factors.
There is no such thing as recalibrating a modern lithium ion battery. It doesn't have a memory.
New battery costs about 20 quid, it should solve the problem.
Also, did you do a reset after the update? Updates can cause battery drain too, quite often.
Sent From My Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005 Using Tapatalk
No, I did not do a reset after the update. But I noticed this before updating to lollipop, I had to do some running around before I got home the day I bought it, and it was running KitKat 4.4. I got it with 93% of battery, walked home for a bit and was down to 65, went to the shopping and back, got home with 40 to 35%. (I bought the phone at around 5 pm and finally got home after going to the mall at around 8pm)

Then it's the battery, most likely.

Battery dead, bought a new one and still got a problem!

Hello guys, since a while my battery was draining too fast, when it gets to 15-20% it automatically turns off or loses like 10% in a jump. I finally decided to buy a new one, it came with the original package, seems original to me. However things are the same, battery life is not good. I tried all kinds of calibrations, used the #*0228# code to reset the battery indicator and still im having the problem. Any help I would appriciate!
I have a similar or if not the same issue battery draining like crazy even under normal usage, i have received 2 new batteries tried various roms and the problem is consistent among all of them, today i got about 1 and a half hour of screen on time and then the phone jumped from 30% to 15% warning and then immediately shut down
I don't trust those "oem" batteries on ebay and amazon . I went with an anker battery when mine started dying as well and I couldn't be happier. Cept for the fact that it's a pain to turn on if I let it die but that's a mobo issue not battery. I'm prolly gonna have Sammy swap it for me now that I know it's on about 70$

MiMix Battery after 3 years of Usage

Hi people!
Ive had the MiMix since Jan 2017 and even today I love its screen and qutie happy with the performance.
However, the only issue that I am now having is that the battery is literally dead'ish of sorts. The battery capacity has literally deminished to 1300mAh and I simply cannot use it as a full day device. So i have to carry around a powerbank and or have it connected to a charger etc..
This is not becuase of the ROM since the battery drain is abnormal even for apps like imgur or reddit.. and youtube drains it completely in around an hour at most..
I have attached the accubattery pics just for reference.
My question is has anyone who has had the phone for a long time experienced any such thing also? or is it just my luck..
same with me..dont worry the charge cycles have affected the battery capacity
I'm running a ROM Resurrection Remix 8.1 since quite some time and battery has always lasted all day long normally, giving around 4h SOT. I have to be careful and check every now and then all the apps I have installed (more than 200). You can select (in Privacy options) which will or won't run in startup and/or in background. I would advise you to leave only the apps you really need to run in startup and background. If your ROM hasn't that option, then look for some app (normally root) that gives you the option.
In my case I'm still happy with everything, design and display is still unbeatable, even camera with gcam is quite good unless there is low light. I'm afraid there is nothing like this phone anymore since there are only phones with ridiculous aspect ratios of 19:9 or 20:9. Too tall to fit in my pockets (more than 16cm) but too thick (less than 8cm) to enjoy videos or reading texts. This Mi Mix has the perfect size and aspect ratio for me and this is something I'll miss a lot whenever I'll have to change my phone.
I think if I were you I'd also consider replacing the battery. Surely you can find somewhere they'll do it if you order a new battery yourself from the web.
Batteria MI MIX
Hi everyone, I too like you are in love with the MI MIX and I can't get another phone. The battery problems I had them too, but I replaced it easily, because the back cover is like that of a phone from years ago. Look on Youtube, there are some explanatory videos.
I bought the battery on e-commerce for 12.80 Euros and replaced it in November 2019.
had my battery changed in early 2019, still working fine until now as my secondary phone. if you are happy with it, get the battery change. it will solve your problem
I just received my aftermarket Mi Mix battery, it claims to be 6000mAh vs oem 4400mAh. So far, couldn't be further from the truth. Will wait a week or so to see if the battery "wakes" up and delivers the goods.
Cheers
Reviving your battery by freezing
The story is pretty much similar with all of you. I own my Mi-Mix since mid 2017 and don't want to replace it. The battery was draining within 15-16h after 3 years with its original firmware, but after I flashed it to the Pixel Experience rom (Android 10) it truly gave it a big hit decaying the everyday battery time down to about 10-11 hours per day under normal usage. The worst part was that by the time the battery was reaching 25-30% the phone almost always, instantly switched off by itself.
When I connected the charger the battery load was jumping from 20% to 30% within seconds which felt wrong; and gave certain proof that the battery was malfunctioning. I didn't want to go back to the old firmware (Android 6) so I decided to face the problem differently. I decided to freeze the battery! I drained the phone completely, removed the SIM card and followed these instructions here:
https://sciencing.com/revive-lithium-ion-batteries-5982537.html
The idea is to put *only the battery* in the freezer, but I carefully wrapped the whole phone, without removing & disconnecting the battery, sealed it in a bag - removed all the air and then sealed it in another bag for extra security. Then, I put it in the freezer. I kept it there for 16 hours (the instructions advised for 24 hours). I then removed it, put it on a paper towel and left it to dry in room temperature for 8h.
Then I recharged the phone and I noticed that the battery wasn't "jump-charging" fast from 20% to 30% like before. I am now using it for my 2nd day. The battery seems much more robust, the phone works definitely better and the charge is still at 80% after 5h of light usage (IM via telegram, viber etc). I hope this will be helpful for any of you who decide to do it.
Disclaimer:
- Please make sure you seal your phone completely before putting it in the freezer.
- Please be sure it is drained from the freezed moisture when you get it out and before connecting it to the charger.
- Please don't blame it on me if your phone breaks down. You're doing this at your own risk.
Finally, I would love your feedback on this.

Wow, this is actually quite intriguing ! I ended up replacing my battery finally a couple of weeks back and have been happy with the phone ever since! I still have the battery that got replaced, so i guess ill try the freezer thing for science's sake
Nearly a month after the experiment, the problem came back with a vengeance. Seems like I got a good month of extra usage without random switch offs and that gave me the opportunity to look for a new phone. I may opt for the battery upgrade after all. Cheers everyone.
