So on my 6p, all the pictures I'm taking are storing upside down. Any ideas? I'm using the default camera app.
Now with YouTube video...
First nexus and this really leaves a bad taste in my mouth with Google. Might be going back to Samsung .
https://youtu.be/qKWrIj0irpU
Guess you haven't checked the news lately.. Here is an whole article on this issue. http://www.androidcentral.com/google-reveals-why-some-photos-taken-nexus-5x-are-upside-down
Also, someone posted a potential fix in Google Forums.....the fix is to gently squeeze your screen against the back all around the places. I did that and it works. Now rotation works on my 6p. Hope this helps other people that have the same problem
That link didn't help. This is with the stock camera app.
The picture is right side up on the display but when it snaps it saves it upside down. Ridiculous.
Try to clear cache on the Camera app and give it a try again, also try to use another app and see if you have same results.
Tried clearing cache, didn't work. Tried restarting too , nothing. Argh. If I have to rma this I'm not going to keep it. Such a ridiculous problem to have
Installed third party app. Pics still upside down.
Argh
Same problem on the Nexus 6P. Have been using for more than 2 weeks now and pictures have saved fine. But just today the pictures turned upside down on the Google camera app.
Yes it may be an issue with the camera being installed upside down, but Google should have addressed the issue on the stock cam app at least. Since the update on the 12th Nov the camera is upside down! And saying we should message developers to make sure they account for us Nexus 6p and 5x owners is unbelievable!

What do you mean by press the screen? Do you mean the camera visor or the front *screen*? How hard do you press it and how does this fix it? I've tried pressing it all over on the back the stock Google camera is saving both front and back pics upside down.

Found the solution! The gravity sensor got stuck. Don't put the phone near magnets.
Giving the back of the phone a firm tap on the palm of your hand few times should "fix" it. Don't drop the phone. See here: https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/nexus/pEUHkUA_VRo/vA-ZeC7DBwAJ
I don't think my issue is the gyro sensor. I used the regular camera and that works fine. However with another camera it flips it upside down.
The issue doesn't make a whole lot of sense and you've tried pretty much everything. I think your best course of action is to contact support immediately, you'll probably need a replacement device.

@bobwonderful , that is a separate issue some camera apps use the old API apparently or something along them lines whereby they don't account for the app to adjust if the camera is held upside down. So apparently we Nexus 6P and 5x owners have to message each camera developer and ask them to include that in their code or use the new camapi2 which is unbelievable. I've emailed 2 cam app devs about this issue and if they could do a simple update, as I had paid for those cam apps but didn't get any replies at all. It's been near 2 months now.
The firm tapping was for the stock Google camera which does account for the camera being installed upside on both phones. The tapping helps release the gyro sensor.

Haha glad my reply helped you I went mad looking everywhere trying to resolve the issue. I still use my in car magnet dash, I think the gyro may have got stuck by some other means. Haven't had the problem since. I've found few new camera apps that don't have this upside down issue since the stock cam app doesn't have many features.
Candy Cam
A random Selfie Cam, can't remember the full name.
Snapchat Cam (reduced quality though)
And well Google stock Cam. Haven't tried anymore cam apps.

Is it possible to have the power button act as a camera button when a camera app is in use? Just curious, as I've noticed recently that it's difficult to take self portraits without being shaky.

It's possible to remap but then you would lose the lock function built into it right now.
I hate the lock function anyways. I never use it intentionally
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
What is the purpose of the lock function besides preventing any action while in the camera app? What advantage does camera lock have that would make it more useful than a physical camera button? Not a sarcastic question either. I first noticed this function a week ago when I was at the zoo taking pictures and would lock the phone every few pictures and put it in my pocket, eventually realizing it wasn't going to sleep.
Sent from my Team Whiskey Powered Vibrant
So can it be done?
Is there any developer who can say if this can be done?
Any idea if there is such a thing?

It's for the video camera, so you don't accidentally stop recording. Just sucks that it does the same for the camera when you don't need it.
I have not found the lock button to be useful for a camera.
But it sure would be nice to have a button to take a picture.
There might be a way
to develop it, either by app or a special ROM.
Maybe there is a developer who can tell his opinion regarding this...
This would be great if any dev could get this working and have this in there rom.

Maybe open logcat in eclipse copy the action taken when a picture is taken and mickic/add it to the lock button? Honestly I do think its possible but wont be avalible. Too complicated just look at froyo r3 something like that, the home, amd back button took weeks for a fix

Just in case anyone subscribed to this thread.
There's an app in the market called "SGS Tools". You can now use the power button as a shutter button, take pictures when battery is low, and pinch to zoom on the camera (it's a little sluggish). Thanks to Fr4gg0r for developing this.
Article here:
http://androidspin.com/2010/12/12/update-your-galaxy-s-camera-to-support-push-to-zoom/
Edit: Do Not Download. There has been reports of it messing up the camcorder and force closes.
Thanks
Many thanks!
Just found this article few days ago.

This thing is borking many people's camcorder. The camera function is fine but many folks have reported that it force closes or reboots the phone when trying to record video. Mine is doing the same thing. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to restore my camera app to its original state.

Hey guys I got my phone the other day and last night I had some issues with the camera. I was at a wedding taking a few pictures and I noticed that after a few pictures the camera would stop taking pictures. It wouldnt freeze but pressing the shutter would have no effect. If I was taking pictures with the flash on auto, then when this would happen the flash would just stay on (as if it were in video mode).
I bought two phones (one for my wife) and she had the exact same problem.
Anyone know what's up?

same exact thing happened here... seemed to happen after a run of a few photos, closing the app (via the recent apps button, swipe to close) helped, but happens again after a while...
Yeah... rebooting or closing the app helped but it still happens. I even did a hard reset.

My wife is having this same exact issue - its driving her nuts (and me nuts, by proxy).
She's had success fixing the issue by rebooting. What I've noticed is that this seems to happen when the camera app is working really hard to track a face, or a group of faces with the face detection feature.
[Temporary Solution]
This is deffinetly a camera bug!!
We should open a thread in the Android Bug List if there isn't one already.
Problem:
The issue is with focusing in very dark environment.
It happens when the camera can not meter correctly and becomes stuck.
The entire camera app hangs and does not respond to user input.
At this point it's best to kill the camera app by pressing the Recent Apps button (double rectangle)
and swiping the app away. Restarting the app restores functionality.
One temporary solution:
The app only hangs when pressing the blue "Take a snap" button while the focus circle is absent.
To take a picture in the dark without problems first tap the screen to focus on a subject.
When the focus circle turns green it's safe to take the picture.
Yeah. Its a bug. I noticed it when taking more than five pictures.

Its not about the number of pictures you take. Try snapping a picture while the camera is in the middle of tapping to focus (before the sensor goes green) that usually does it for me. It's hard to reproduce immediately but I am seeing it happens A LOT when taking pictures.
It's Google issue 40996: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40996
What do you guys think of the camera modes? I think a lot of them seem to be cool but aren't they all independent? I.e., if I'm taking a shot of 3 people in a busy area, it stands to reason that I would want to use best shot for the people's faces but also use the eraser feature in case someone walked by. Is that possible?
I'm also thinking about combining all the features in very few modes...like what the htc one did.. it's actually all based on burst-mode or post-effect.
I'm really confused why they've made it in this way, it can't help a lot in the daily usage and sometimes is annoying.
Is anyone else having the issue of the camera not remembering the mode if you close ot then open it again at a later point

Gs3 gti9300 had this to it is easily fixed by choosing your desired settings, then take a snap of something, then close cam and close in running apps, then when u load fresh it will still have saved settings. This only applies to gps, face detection, ISO, resolution, not the drama shot and shot with sound.
Hope this helps

First thing first. Check if it is an external or internal issue. To check if it is external, take a closer look to the camera (if possible with a zoom ?) and if you see the lens is foggy or some moist inside there, then you will have to open it. To check if is internal, install 2 or 3 other cameras that work with selfies and see if it is blurry too.
Could you post an example?

1st, if you want someone to answer to you, you must click on the reply button. otherwise, that person might never know that you are asking him something.
Now, this is a picture of how more or less a foggy/moist lens would look like (like fog accumulating on the interior). If you take a close look and you dont see anything abnormal, then it is more likely to be something inernal (software related) but in order to see whether is that too then, you might want to install several camera apps and try each one. if none of the show a blurry image, then it is software related. if all of them show you the same result then ... it might be external and you would have to open the phone.

A) If the OP is serious about this thread, they'll come back and actually check it and see my request. If they need me to hit the reply button, that's just lazy and not giving a care. If they don't care, I don't care.
B) If you meant to attach a photo, you forgot to.

Er, the OP started the thread and commented about blurry photos, what made you assume the thread was suddenly about you?
And there's about a million different reasons for photos to come out blurry which is why it is best to ask for examples instead of jumping on a solution that is probably somewhere at the bottom of the list out of possible reasons first. Makes complete sense that I was talking to the OP if you're actually here to help the OP.

Ah. nevermind I thought I was talking to the OP but now i figured out i was talking with someone else.
Do you know what a hierarchy chart by any chance? (dont go taking this question the wrong way now)
Yes, I know what a hierarchy chart is but I fail to see how that solves the OP's issue without the OP coming back and giving us examples of his/her blurry photos.
To get back on track, and yes this is almost pointless without samples of the blurry pics, my front camera seems to "smooth" selfie pics as if to make them seem better. They look, to me, like they have been processed to look "better"--like some people often do on Facebook to pics of themselves, particularly if they are above a "certain age."

Just bought the V20 and I've got to say how disappointed I am with the front camera, particularly auto mode. It's almost impossible to take a picture that isn't blurry. The only way to get a decent picture is to switch to manual mode and increase shutter speed. Once you toggle between shutter speed and iso, you can capture really decent pictures. Where this causes problems is when you need to snap a picture really quickly and don't have time to sit and adjust settings. I'll probably return this phone and go for a Samsung. At least I know I'll get great pictures. Very disappointing.
the front camera sucks because of the focus, that's why mines blurry anyway. it's like infinity focus so anything closeup, like a selfie, is not sharp. the galaxy s7 was the same way.. the ffc was garbage on it bc of this. weird, bc my note 4 ffc was 10x better than both and that phones 3 years old lol

I think it has something to do with with the stupid beauty filter on the front cam for selfies. Even if you turn it down to 0 it still looks like it's applying a smoothing effect and there is no way to turn it off as far as I know.
Just doing a comparison shot in another camera app like the Google camera I can tell a difference in the detail of my skin. The Google camera sucks because there is too much noise overall but I can actually see the individual hairs on my beard whereas on the LG one with the beauty thing turned to 0 it still looks like a smoothed out mish mash
Hey guys.
So I just got a new PH1 and a 360 camera.
When I hook the camera up, I get a blue light, and it goes to a black 360 screen, but only twice has it actually shown any video. The 2nd time It successfully connected, it started loading again after just a few seconds.
Anyone know what's up with that?
Does the blue light turn to green? It's supposed to... Do you have a skin on the phone? That extra thickness can keep it from working.
It is almost always blue
No
I had the same problem before. It's the phone hardware issues. Send back for warranty or return it for replacement.

Just got my PH-1 and 360 camera today, have all system (Android 8.1 with April security patch) and camera app updates (4 MAY) and Firmware update for 360 camera. Same problem here. The LED indicator on the back of the camera almost always blue, works intermittently.
Did your problem get solved?
Any updates on this? Happening to me too.
I've had my PH-1 for a better part of 4 months and have the latest security patch. I would perform an update to the latest and see where it goes. I've not had any issues with mine.
Already updated to all the latest versions.
Yeah same here. I have emailed Essential support. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Anyone have any success fixing this?
Has essential support been any help?
Remember to remove the back skin cover

Okay. Essential replaced my camera and everything is working now. One thing they suggested was the first time I connect the 360 camera be in safe mode to prevent anything interfering with the software update to the camera. I did that and it updated without any issues and works great now. I'm on the release version of Android pie.
