Hey All,
A buddy of mine and I were having issues with MMS and receiving on Marshmallow with the 6P and 5X on T-Mobile. To see if it helps for all, you should set the settings below on the APN and give it a good ol'reboot.
T-Mobile GPRS:
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming Protocol:IPv4/IPv6
T-Mobile MMS:
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming Protocol:IPv4/IPv6
After that it worked for us, so if you're having issues, this may work for you.
Thanks this worked for me and my girlfiend.
Thank you so much! This was driving me nuts.

It didn't work for me, either. I've tried all the APN mods I could find for T-Mobile, but SMS and MMS would not go through. Then I read somewhere that Google's messenger app has a problem with multiple T-Mobile APNs, so I disabled it, and installed Textra instead. It worked immediately, but if you still have issues, it's got some advanced hacks specifically for T-Mobile in its settings.
at first it didnt work for me but i applied the changes then turned my phone off and back on and it worked

There are times when my MMS doesn't work on textra and I have a notification that tells me I can try again. Usually works
Hey, thanks this worked for me too. I had a dozen MMS messages backed up and after I entered the settings and rebooted, they rolled right in as soon as I requested them again. Really appreciate the assist, the last thing I wanted to do was to get stuck between the Nexus and T-Mobile support lines.
:good:

Thank you for this information. I'm shocked they had it defaulted to IP6...
I had to power off/on the phone before to get stuff to send MMS wise before
Sadly, you loss the ability of WiFi portable hotspot ?

Reboot your phone after changing the settings, if it does not work just go to Tmobile website and add copy APN settings from there and reboot.

I found a possible solution here: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/VW_L9kVVy8g
"In SETTINGS > APPS > Settings Icon on the right top > Default APPS somehow the default BROWSER APP field was empty. I put it back to CHROME and within seconds the MMS messages started to come in and go out."
Is the only fix for this to turn off WiFi if all the other possible solutions have been attempted?

Hi.
I've used many, many APN settings over the past 6 or so months, and on top of living in a valley and get really bad data inside my house my APN setting weren't helping matters I've came to realize. If I walk 2 or 3 doors up I get 5 bars and 3g or H getting over 5 MPS. Since I've used these settings, I always have at least between 1 and 3 bars in my house and constant Edge with 3G on and off. This is due to my new APN Settings. With ANY OTHER APN setting I used I would barely ever get a bar in my house and I had to end up putting money on my Fring account, and I tried Truphone too.. they both worked great but I don't want to pay an extra
$10 or $20 a month to make calls from home. With these new APN settings I don't need , (fring, skype, truphone ect..) anymore. Here are the settings if anyone wants them.. Remember, these are for the HTC HD2, running android, T mobile USA PERIOD.. Just Tmo US.. nowhere else..

On your phone go to Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Access point names. Once you are there you can edit an existing APN if there is one. If not, press Menu and then you can choose to add a new APN. After you enter all the info for your new APN, press Menu and then save. Go back to home screen, wait a while for your new settings to update and connect, and you should have data!
I keep having issues with mms, in wm i'm able to do it all with out issues. in android, froyosence 3.2, radio is 2.12.50.02_2, when i just input the apn settings given here i was able to receive a mms instantly, however about 2 min later i went to send one and it wont send says "unable to send message Generic Network Failure. What i'm curious about is if the android data plan will make any difference with this issue. it also seams that the issue is not the apn so much as it is mobile data drops connection, however internet browsing forces a connect but it does nothing for the mms.. receive or send. any clues on if switching data plans will fix this or what the issue i need to be looking at is to resolve this issue. thanks
i dont think everyone else has said it enough THANKS!!!!! life saver you are!

My setting is the same as OP.
Note: It's strange, but my data has to be toggled on in order to send MMS. I can't send any when it's off or when I'm on wi-fi.
Stock app works flawless for me but others do not.

Pushed thanks on accident.
On my G2x, it was problematic. It was APN settings that were a little off. On my i9300, nary a problem.
I'm using the stock app and uninstalled Go SMS Pro and still can't receive any MMS's....only send.
No one has any tips or tricks?
To send the fastest way is to be on 3g/h mode. To receive you can either be on E/3G/H or wifi. Make sure u aleays have a data connection if you have "auto retrieve" on.

As stated earlier, you have to have a data connection, not just voice (as with plain text messages). That explains why you have to have it toggled on.

I'm having this exact issue too (on my nexus 4) - I get notification of a text, but if it's MMS or a text to multiple people, then it's just empty. Only way to get rid of the notification is to tap the clear all notifications icon. But they come back. Quite the frustrating little problem.

Hello everyone,
I just joined T-mobile last week and ported over my old phone number to it. I'm able to receive and make phone calls just fine, but I'm unable to receive SMS/MMS messages. Oddly I can send them to my friends, and they have all confirmed receiving the messages (they called/emailed me to let me know). I was told it would take 2-8 hours on average to port my number over, but up to 48 hours worst case. It's been 5 days now.
I've contacted T-Mobile about 8 times now over the phone, and each time I'm told to check my APN settings, clear my data and cache in the messaging app, reboot the phone, put it into airplane mode then out of airplane mode. Nothing is working. Upon googling, some people have said to contact their technical department and to ask for a number rebroadcast. They're not working on this, and I hope it works as I sent and received several text messages on a daily basis, both work and personal.
Has anyone ever had issues like this? I'm scared that it'll never be fixed, and I really don't want to resort to getting a new phone number just to "fix" the issue. Some people on google in the past have said a rebroadcast has fixed it for them, while others have gone weeks without resolve. All of these horror stories were from 2009 or 10, so I'm hoping now that a few years have passed, T-Mobile has their act straightened and can fix this.
Try this: open the dialer and press *#*#4636#*#*
Then phone information.
Scroll down to SMSC and hit refresh. Make sure it reads "+12063130004",145. (Including quotations) if not change it to that.
See if that helps.
P.S. you may want to write down the smsc before you change it.

It matched exactly. Not sure what to do but wait 24 hours like they said I guess. Although I've waited the past 3 days every time they've told me they were trying something new. I really do appreciate your help though. I noticed WCDMA was selected as my primary network type, is this correct?

Yep that's correct. Wcdma preferred. One more thing to check. Is your old phone still on? That can mess up SMS as well during porting.

I ported my number from a Google voice account. Friends of mine have done this a few times flawlessly, so I figured I'd port mine over too since everyone practically calls/texted me at that number. Google claims the number has been transferred completely over to T-mobile, so it's their issue if I'm not receiving SMS messages.
Hmmm. Well I'm out of ideas. Hopefully it sorts itself out Good luck!

I don't think apn settings make a difference when it comes to your plan.
What radio are you on? Look under settings/about phone/ what are the last 2 digits where it says baseband version?
I would test it out on another phone, if that does not work it's mostly something wrong on t-mobiles side. Had a similar issue but it resorted itself out after some time when porting to t-mobile.
HI all and please forgive me if this has been covered, I did search!
I just jumped from the note 3 to note 4 and once again experienced the problem of mms messages being received over wifi. I could get them if i turned wifi off.
It appears that the Tmobile default APN has no port set for Multi media message port (at least mine didn't)
I created a new apn with all the default setting but added multi media message port 80 and it seems to have corrected the problem.
Im not rooted so no custom rom installed. (Yes, i had my note 3 rooted and was a rom freak
Please delete this if its covered somewhere else and accept my apologies.
I hope this can help some others out.

WiFi over mms doesn't work with wifi calling right picture messages?
Success! Mms works over wifi calling on the inverted message app. Thanks a bunch!
This sounds very helpful could you post some pictures of how its supposed to look? I rarely do anything with the apn settings i usually wait for the flashable zip.

Just as the op instructed. Make an additional profile identical to the default. Then input "80" under "multimedia message port". Save and select the new profile.

For the record I tested using Hangouts and I changed the APN settings in both the Hangouts app and Android itself. SM-N910T completely stock (unrooted).

For hangouts I'm assuming you only inputted [name, mmsc, mms port, mcc, mnc]?

I don't really see why it wouldn't work on the S5, assuming it is afflicted by this same issue with MMS and WiFi. And yes that was all I put in inside of Hangouts itself.
Will give it a try, thanks
Does WiFi calling have to be off? Just tested with my wife's s5 with the same settings, both on WiFi... MMS will not go through until WiFi is toggled off on both devices. Didn't try toggling WiFi Calling.
Thanks! worked great!
Awesome!! Thanks so much for this. This was really starting to annoy me.
CHOMP
If you use Chomp for texting, go to Settings > SMS & MMS Settings > MMS Settings (Go here if MMS isn't working) > T-mobile WiFi calling fix and check it!
I needed it for SGS5 but haven't yet, for Note 4.

Correct but if you on WiFi and WiFi calling is on that should not be checked off. If it is it will send thru TMOBILE data and not WiFi.

For anyone who doubt's it I made a video proof. I am using chomp with regular APN data off WiFi calling on as you will see.

Thank you for this. I feel like it should be a sticky and plastered all over t-mobiles site. I have had a Note 4 I purchased from T-Mobile a week ago and have been switching off WiFi to receive MMS messages. I'm thinking its imessages (I switched from iOS) but nope, its a T-Mobile issue. Happy this is solved I was almost regretting my decision to buy an android phone.
Love XDA and its members
Works Great . Thank you.

Still works for me
Awhile back I was having an issue with group messaging and unable to download iphone users messages.
I ended up just re-doing my phone for other reasons.
Now, I am able to to view iphone user messages in a group chat, but now I can't view my husband's messages (android) in a group chat.
I've read to check the APN settings and a few other things.
So my question is what is your AT&T APN set at.
Also, do you have any issues with group messaging?

I'm also having issues downloading mms from my friends with a new Samsung device. My wife and two friends have s7 / edge and it will not download mms group text from them. Individual mms pictures work fine. I'm on att also and use the apn settings from their website....

I think it's AT&T towers, of late I've had issues with very late e-mail deliveries and my voice not being heard by the other party. They have way to much traffic on their towers. Cricket, StraightTalk and a host of others all using AT&T towers.
My wife has an s6 edge and her group MMS won't download on my Moto x pure. Plain sms and direct MMS work fine. We're both on att but sperate accounts. Nothing I've tried works
Remove the "fota" from APN Type and it will work.

Incorrect... fota is "Firmware Over The Air" data type and is not relevant

We've figured it out.
My husband has a Note 4 and in his text messaging settings he had to change. Sorry, I can't remember what it was exactly but he said it was new in his text messaging settings. Once he changed that, it worked! I think it was something enhanced. Of course I would ask him but he's currently unreachable.
Hope this helps for now
Thanks for the tip I'll look at settings on my wife's phone when I can get my hands on it. I'll update later

Bingo! Turning off advanced messaging on the Samsung phone seems to have fixed our MMS group text problems!

I was actually told by an at&t representative that fota is a tablet setting. I would recommend removing it if you have any further problems.

fota = Firmware Over The Air
Meaning you can get OTA updates via mobile data if allowed on the server side... it is somewhat depreciated on retail devices, but has no negative effects. In carrier phones, where the OTA updates are distributed by the carrier, in some cases it can allow the update to come over mobile data where it normally would require WiFi. In order for this to work, your update application would have to request a "fota" data connection from the operating system.
I am aware this page only lists it for tablets, but it definitely applies to some phones.
BTW, I don't even have AT&T anymore... to expensive, moved to H20 Wireless.
