Anyone else with Battery Drain on Wifi - Nexus 6P - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Contrary to every other phone, I ever had. This phone seems to drain more battery while on Wifi than on LTE, is there anyone else with similar issues?

None here. Did you turn off Wifi Scanning? By default it's set to "Always On"

I don't use WiFi as I am on T-Mobile unlimited. But without a doubt turn off WiFi scanning, and turn off the option to continuously scan for more accurate information.

Just turned off that feature lets see if that makes a difference

Using the stock battery stats screen, it says my WIFI is by far the highest battery drain. I haven't noticed my phone actually dying faster than I would expect though, so I wonder if it's a bug in its reporting only.

Turned off Wifi completely, Since my VoLTE speeds are awesome & I have unlimited data (Corporate account)

Yeah my phone uses much more battery when on wifi compared to LTE. I turn my wifi off and get much better battery life.

I actually went to bed at 100 battery and woke up at 100. WiFi on.

WiFi usage 1% as wifi was on for the last let's say more than 12 hours.

Many enterprise networks have issues with allowing the phone to properly sleep. My phones used to work fine at my last job until we upgraded our wireless network, since then every phone I've had rarely sleeps when connected to that network. Works fine at home.

Just an FYI, but Google will then bug you about turning it on for a while, but when I hid the prompt that shows up in the slide menu(left to right on home screen) the prompts stopped.

I also have issues with my work WiFi forcing my phone to stay awake. I've fixed this by manually switching to our 2.4GHz network (as opposed to the 5GHz).
At home and at work, though, when checking my battery stats it always lists WiFi as the first entry. I have no clue why this would be, though I don't feel like my phone battery is draining particularly fast or anything. It feels like it could be a reporting issue. I have on Google Fi, and I don't even see an option to remove WiFi scanning, which I'm guessing is because that's a core component of using Google Fi.

Not sure how to stop this I have all scanning turned off

[Q] Battery problems

Hi all! I have bought Nexus 7 32g wifi (SN: CAOK) 9 days ago. I noticed an unregular battery usage... I made about 3,5h with display on and I've read on the web that I should do at least 6h with display on. It 'a manufacturing defect?

Looks about right to me. You have to factor in I that you also have about 1 day of standby time and you were playing some games.
Try tinkering with your sync settings and WiFi settings and you may get a little more battery.

As some people to get 2 days of standby and 6h of display on in same charge? I've seen it on many screens on xda and other forums maybe they are using a custom roms? I actually mount stock 4.2.1.
What do you mean with wi fi settings?
Thanks
I have had awful battery life on 4.2.1. Its meant to give you 6-7 hours of screen time but I've had no more than 2. Really annoying and I'm sure I didn't get this on 4.1.2
So you have this problem too
I think so too It's a 4.2.1 issue, but I wouldn't install any custom room cause if it's an hw problem I can't back N7 with warranty...

Ok, but this goes against my need to receive push notifications. So I can say that those who make six hours of screen on is because they has not the wifi always on?

I get around 10hrs of battery life (total actual usage)... with 2 days on standby
but i usually disable sync, only sync when needed. (make use of those widgets)
Avoid fancy widget, use stock widget if possible.
In battery settings, wifi off when it sleeps.
If you are using google currents, you have to disable auto sync, as it use up battery real fast.
And avoid push notification...
Push is the real killer, it requires wifi to be constantly on.

FYI, I've just done a factory reset + restore from my google account, so we'll see if anything changes but I doubt it!
My battery has just been running down like nothing. It went down to 0% and turned off so I plugged it in. Got to 75% when it was time to go out to dinner with friends and by the end of it - with barely using it - it was down to about 40%.
So I charged it back up to 100% and by the time I got to bed it was back down to 45% or so. 7 hours later, I wake up to my alarm but also on-screen alert about power. It had dropped to 1%!

The signal going from 3G to H is a normal occurrence. It sits on 3G when data is not being transferred, and when data is actively transferring it switches to H. It saves battery and does not mean the phone is constantly looking for signal.

Are you running a custom ROM and theme? Some will just say H and H+ and not 3G and H. Also, it could have to do with fast dormancy which T-Mobile US uses.

WiFi eating battery on Note 3

Hey everyone,
My mom just got a new Note 3 (yay!), and I have been quite busy exploring all its features. One thing that is nagging me, however is that both the stock browser and chrome are using up a great deal of battery. Wifi is eating 1% Every 1-2 minutes and while using the browsers this is amplified to a percent every 30 secs!
Please help me.

Wifi has always been a battery vampire.
Do you have brightness set to 100%?
How far are you from the router? A bad signal uses more power.
Is anything syncing in the background?

At stand by, the Note 3 hardly uses 1-2% battery every 8 hours or so, but when it comes to calling (core function of the phone!) and wifi+browsers the battery suffers greatly. I haven't tested cellular data yet because of weak signals near my house. Should I let it drop to 0% and charge to 100% or get a new battery? Really disappointed with the battery.
As a general rule you should avoid full discharge/recharge cycles (except for things such as recalibration) as this in the long run shortens the batt's lifetime even more. So it's best to recharge it more often and keep it somewhere between 10-90%.

New update guys:
I left my phone with WiFi on for half an hour and it ate 3% battery from 50% to 47% which includes a phone call. And this time the phone was a bit further away from the router. So, I guess it's not the WiFi that's sucking the juice but the browsers.

Fixed
Hey,
Well the issue fixed itself. I now have WiFi running with Smart Screen, Air Gestures, Sync, Screen Rotating and using the web browser to do some surfing and battery hasn't dropped a percent since the last few minutes. It got fixed right after another (it's 3rd) charge and it's working now.
Guess I just needed to charge it a few times for it to work. If anyone else is having issues and have charged it only once or twice, try charging it again. Mine was at 47% when I charged.

Generally though if Android OS is higher than your screen on time then you have a wakelock issue. I know without root it'll be a little harder to fix the issue at hand though.
I'd at least look into WiFi settings and turn Always Allow Scanning to Off. Then maybe look at your GPS settings and try the battery friendly mode or GPS only mode. I also don't allow Google to use your WiFi for better location results. There have been similar bugs reported with 4.4 here is some info and afew people trying to squash the issue on a Nexus http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/1y96zm/battery_drain_caused_by_android_os_possible/

You also have to remember how much Samsung based apps are running in the background at all times. Figure the pedometer in S-Health, any kind of airview, or S-This S-That when the phone is on. That is probably part of the cause. I do say i see it too but i wouldnt say my battery is exactly bad because of it.

Thank you for those tips! I didn't know about that wifi one. I immediately unchecked always scanning. I keep my wifi on to make sure I use wifi, if available, but I don't need it always scanning. I hesitated on the gps switch, but I figured I'll try it on power saver and see what happens.
Edit:
After turning off wifi scanning, that's what I got. That looks better to me. Although my usage time is lower than my previous screenshot, I started my day at 90% (forgot to charge last night, and that's as high as I could get it before leaving for work), and I'm using my phone more today.
