The past few days I've lost about 4 hours on my battery life. From 12-14 down to about 8-9 per full battery. The only thing I've really changed is I've started using google voice. Anyone else think gvoice causes severe battery drain?
Also, can I delete the regular voicemail app because it still seems to be running as well.
is the service running?

I doubt GV uses that much battery. Why don't you go back and see whether you get 12-14 hours?

Which service are you referring too. Well, both android voicemail and google voice (and its three or four related services) were running.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea.
turn off those services see if it helps
Have always been signed into GV since day one and get the same amount of battery life. GV doesn't drain battery life.
I've stopped using the Gmail app because I don't like the silly interface too much so I turned off mail sync. Now that's helping with battery life a bit.

If you've had it turned on from day one then how do you know it doesn't drain battery life? Same battery life as what?
Is it possible to still use my other voicemail for my normal number and only use google voicemail for my google number?

same here dude! I found this post searchin on google the key words: google voice and battery drain.
I' m on htc desire hd and google voice is the only thing I can think of, when I see my device die after 20h of normal usage. I don't know exactly how the app works yet, but I am sure it uses a lot of 3G and maybe wi-fi when available. I can see anomalies in my 3G usage mostly.
It's a nice service, but god!
Just about any app that you have to sign IN to will drain your battery even if you don't have any visible app or service running. It's better to sign out each time. The same goes for these: Google Lattitude, Facebook, Amazon MP3 (this one was a bugger to find...had forgotten I had signed into this), Amazon App Store, Qik, etc. If you don't believe me, sign out of everything and check your battery drop afterwards!
GV had a huge issue with battery drain in a previous version. I assume you're on the latest release?
I suspect it uses a similar amount of battery life as gmail push email, adjusted for use of course. It may be worth your time to disable it for a day and keep usage otherwise constant to confirm that it's the problem. Your drop is battery life is significant, as if the CPU min speed was crazy high or the device never went into deep sleep.
I noticed this as well an thus phone and my other one. Its the Google apps (especially Google+ and Maps) that open and run on their own but unfortunately I am seeing it on Google Voice as well

do you guys know how to disable auto push for the google voice app? since i use the sprint integration with google voice, every text message gets pushed to the phone via internet which i do not need since i would rather text through GoSMS.
The only setting i find is a general background sync for all apps, not just google voice. Thanks!!

CG battery drain
i just have intalled GV on my Samsung Glaxy Ace with Rom Infinity based con cyanogenmod 7.2 and i realized thar my cellphone charges for about 2 hours and get the 100% but it drains too fast, the normal charge time used to be 3 hours but since i've installed GV my device losses lots of battery .
Sorry for my english
My Mugen EXTENDED Life battery arrived this week and I am not getting the sort of hours that I thought I would get .. I have WiFi and GPS turned off and still getting 24 hours with NO USE AT ALL .. But first....
I use Advanced Task Manager and I just turned on my Streak after not touching it for 24 hours. I go to the area where you END TASKS and I don't think there is one thing that isn't running. Even programs that I have never used since I downloaded them.
It's like my Streak is possessed. It has a mind of its own. ALSO, no matter what I do I cannot make the screen stay on for more than 10 seconds. I change it to 2 minutes but within no time at all it has gone back to the 10 second turn off.
When I end EVERYTHING I close and open Adv Task Manager and these are now running ..
Alarm Clock
Calendar
Outlook Tasks
Tasks Storage
Advanced Task Manager
I wanted my screen to stay on so I could STARE AT IT and see what starts running first, making EVERYTHING follow ..
aaarrrggghhhh ... Am I just going insane ?? I am not kidding when I said that EVERYTHING was running when I turned it on for the first time today.
Diane
CLOSED Advanced Task Manager. Played a game called Beads .. Opened Advanced task Manager .. Besides the ones that were already running .. this is what is running NOW.
Swype
Maps
Beads turns on my maps ?? Playing a game starts Swype? I guess it is a chain reaction? If the Streak checks my email something else will start? I have CNN and a few other News websites on the Streak. They started by them selves or something started them during the time the sStreak was in my purse and also one of my Twitter programs started by itself last night. ONE LAST THING. Beads was NOT running. I ended the game and it really ended. Still it turned on Maps .. or something did.

Yep .. that is MY POST also. I need an answer to my problem. Is posting in 2 forums a no-no ?? I posted here first and nobody has replied, cept you. meanwhile .. my streak is still opening random programs.
you can post as much as you like. i do recommend changing that one parameter in build.prop. dunno why that was ever set to 0.
Please check the frequency of email-fetch on your Streak. It might be so, that it checks your emails kinda every 5 minutes, which kills the battery so fast!
What rom r u using?
Maybe a factory reset N install a new rom I.e 2.2
Also has to do with refresh rates on your Widgets, I had the same problem when I got my streak back in June, I had every screen with an updating widget N it just killed my battery. Looked flash to my mates though, until then started laughing at me having to recharge all the time.

ALSO .. I will use the same name here to avoid confusion .. I actually have 'shEEEsh' on both boards. I created the other account one day because for some reason I was having problems logging in. I can't figure out how to unsubscribe.

I spent lots of time re-installing all the programs and entering email accounts etc. I have my settings to NEVER turn the phone screen off because it is just annoying .. Today has been 72 hours since I unplugged it from the charger and I am at 58% .. I am not going to put it on the charger until it won't start !!

THIS. I was having problems with wakelocks and traced them back to these few things below which got my battery life to greatly increase once disabled.
1) using dashclock extensions like FB and gmail
2) leaving google sync on in settings for the various google services
3) corporate email exchange servers
4) setting a long time variable for the phone to lock after the screen turns off (i did this to prevent putting in a pin to unlock but it kept the phone awake after the screen turned off)
5) live wall papers
There is also a known issue in the stock kernel that causes the phone to stay awake when it is supposed to go into sleep mode during extended periods of inactivity. This can be solved by using a custom kernel just as Franco r90 which has implemented patches in order to allow the phone to go into sleep to preserve battery. It is expected to be fixed in the next official OTA from google although this was also expected to be in 4.2.2 and was not fixed fully.
Same issue here. 4.2.2 stock kernel+rom, rooted
BBS shows "suspend_backoff" is at 45% no idea what's causing that.
Disabled pretty much all of the sync services but no improvement.
Interestingly right after the 4.2.2 update, the battery life was good.

Google play services has something to do with the high usage. Yesterday I was near 20% usage today I disabled it and android os is at 7%. It only affects YouTube app for me, but the browser version is fine. I haven't seen any adverse affects other than maybe losing updates to the play store and ota updates which I don't care about because that's what xda and Roms are for. Now it may be placebo, but it also seems like the ui is smoother. Battery has improved greatly with sot of 3 hours with 57% left.
Hi,
how do you disable Google play services?
Try using the app greenify if your rooted.. It's been helping my battery life. Use it on maps and that will help. If maps is set as a system app, move it or just install banks minimal gapps so you can download from play store.

I had a serious problem with one of my exchange accounts causing partial wakelocks and killing my batter life:
I have 3 separate exchange accounts. All were set to Push and keeping 2 week's worth of email. After installing KitKat, I found that my battery life had dropped to less than 50% of what I was getting prior to the update. After a bit of research I found that one of my exchange accounts was constantly trying to sync causing the phone to never go in to deep sleep. I have not yet found a permanent fix, so as a work around, have changed my sync settings to poll every 15 minutes. This has effectively doubled my battery life.
To check and see if you are experiencing a similar issue (presuming you also have an exchange account), periodically go in to account settings. If your status is constantly showing "syncing" (rather than a "last synced" message), you've got the same issue going on.
That's a great tip to disable the email push. The wake is no longer stayed awake.
Thanks!

But today google contact sync is draining so much battery. I've exported and deleted all contacts from google. Disabled back up my phone in settings and even disabled the app in settings and it still opens... I don't really want to have to root it. Any ideas I may not have tried?
Also wonder,my phone is rooted though, well, didn't want to freeze any Google services but some features like backup system is stubbornly running even after disable in settings. Don't know any good medicine from this issue.

Yes I know that. The thing that drives me crazy is that I have no control over running background apps, like backup, that were disabled via Google provided interface. This is type of cheating to have an interface that doesn't do much.

How did you fixed it temporarily?
But the one million dollar question is: How much battery is lost while idle overnight?
This is the real question I think, because in all my tests, no matter the build version, I have got l least 5 hours of SOT (17 hours of use in total), which is not bad,
but most people get at least 7 hours SOT (in some 30+ hours) I guess I use it too frequently.
So, that would be the main question.
Please, do try to answer and tell us. Thank you!
