How do I tell. I have one.
It says rapid charging even when I'm plugged into the USB port on my PC. Is there an app to tell what voltage and current it's drawing?

This new Google charging method is just weird. Much easier with the Qualcomm Quick charge...
I don't know, maybe calculating how long it takes from 0% to full charge??

quick charge 3.0 can offer 5V/3A. But you must use the type c to a cable which use a resistor of value 10kΩ(which up to 3A) But according to the test of Benson, if the charger can't offer 3A, the 10kΩ cable will be a bad one. I also buy a quick charge 3.0 wall charger from tronsmart:http://www.amazon.com/dp/b015zjkvok and a tronsmart Type C (USB-C) to Type A (USB-A) Cable:http://www.amazon.com/Tronsmart-Sta...d=1438841809&sr=8-2&keywords=Tronsmart+Type-C Charge my nexus 6p super fast:good:

But the type c to a cable which comes with the 6p seems to be 56 kΩ. If I use it with the tronsmart QC 3.0 wall charge, doesn't work well.

The charger looks really nice! But we don't know if that Tronsmart cable is compliant or not.
Maybe you can try this, eventhough in the second edit he says that may not work with the 6P....
EDIT: with these both ADB commands you should be able to see if the cable is complient or not.
adb shell "cat /sys/bus/i2c/drivers/tusb320/*/current_detect"
or
adb shell "find /sys -name tusb320 2>/dev/null"

The tronsmart cable is also a bad one. However, since the qc 3.0 charger can offer 5V/3A, if use the 56 kΩ cable , if can't offer 3A. Only about 2A.

If all the complient cable use 56 kΩ, all of the charger which are designed for new nexus phones must use the type c to c cable. Because the 56 kΩ type c to a cable can't meet the demand(3A). So don't recommend you buy this qc 3.0 wall charger if you use 56 kΩ cable because you can't get the 3A. Tronsmart also tell us that they will release the new type c charger(5V/3A) which need to use type c to cable instead of type c to a in this month.

It's actually simpler. The thing is that there just isn't anything (fully spec compliant) available yet. Once USB-C 3A chargers and cables are out there things will be easy.
The bleeding edge isn't for everyone.

Anymore news on type C usb wall chargers, that have fast charging for Nexus 6p ?

Different charging option?

I'm not sure if this is even possible and sorry if it has already been answered, but is there a way to make the A500 micro usb port actually charge the tablet? I know it doesn't charge thru that port now, but is there a mod that can be done via software tweaking; or is it a hardware issue that can't be changed? It would be nice to charge the A500 with a micro usb cord and especially in the car with my Thunderbolt's car charger.
Microusb does not put out enough juice to charge tablets effectively.
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
From what I understand, the USB connection won't provide enough current to charge the batteries sufficiently, so I would say no. This is the same on the iPad as well, no USB charge like is possible with the iPhone. The dock (shown on the Acer website) will at least allow another charging option, albeit probably not what you had in mind. Best thing to do is probably just get a power inverter for your car and plug it in.
I don't think there is enough electrical current through the USB port to charge the device effectively. As USB can only give you 5v 900mA, this device requires 12v 1.5A to charge.
Oh, gotcha. Thanks everybody, it makes sense about not putting out enough juice. I wondered if it didn't charge maybe because Acer didn't design for it to, and it was strictly for data transfer; which it is.
I've always wondered why they didn't include one of the double ended USB plugs like DVD burners over USB use. Still 2 x 5V x 500mA(900mA is USB 3.0 only) isn't the same as 12 x 1.5.
Personally, mine gets it's power from it's molecular density's proximity to our yellow sun. I've also named it Zod.

I got this car adapter from Wal-Mart (it's a universal adapter - Powerline Model #90293). It's a 12V 2A adapter (originally bought it for a Viewsonic G Tablet...couldn't find a 1.5A version). It works well with the A500...the adapter plug sticks out a little bit, but it's not a big deal.
As long as the amperage is higher and the quality is as good or better, any DC adapter would work. It just needs to fit in the hole.
USB 3.0?
Would using a USB 3.0 port and cable make a difference since it carries a higher charge?

No. It's simply not wired to charge the tablet. For the same reason you can't charge your laptop via the USB port.

Ok since USB charging is out of the question I have another. People who have used the Xoom, is the Acer's charging port the same as the one on the Xoom? The Xoom has an official car charger, but just by looking I can't tell if they are the same size ends.

You could probably head out to BestBuy or Staples etc.. and compare the 2. They should be side by side. Otherwise, I'm sure Acer (or some other 3rd party) will probably release a car charger that plugs into the proprietary port on the bottom?
From what I remember, the Motorola charging port is like a little thin nubbit. I think the plug on our Acer is larger. Check it out and post some pics.
My charger's head got broken into half just now ==! Hopefully can get the warranty.

Car charging whilst on GPS

I have used my new Nexus4 on the road with google navigation. I was surprised to find out that the 1Amp samsung charger I have used with my SGS2 was not able to maintain the charge of the phone. After couple of hours of driving my Nexus 4 died ( I didn't start with full battery)
What is your experience? I would expect the phone not only to work whilst on cable for the whole time, but also to eventually charge the phone fully.
Now I am not sure if it is my charger or nexus 4.
I had a look on mains charger and the output is 1.2Amp, is this the problem, that the car charger is not powerful enough?
I currently use CAD300UBE, which is the official i9300 car charger, with a rated output of 700mA.
When streaming over bluetooth using Spotify, and using Google Navigation I can say that this charger does charge the phone.
My old S2 charger, also genuine did not manage to charge my S3, hence the replacement.
Phil
My recollection is that Nexus devices are looking for pins 2 and 3 (data) of the charger to be shorted. If they are not, you'll only get 500ma from the supply.
Turn the screen of when not needed in navigation,
I use a kensington 2A flush cigarette lighter so it isn't an issue, the charger is <$15, and it makes life easier when I want to charge my ipad. Only thing I regret about the charger is that I didn't get the dual port version.
I posted this in the GN forum about a year ago when the same sort of problems were coming up there. You need a 2A charger and a data only cable to make you charge like you are on a wall charger. (Charging AC - Check this by going to Settings > Battery, the top shows charging AC.
bmolloy said:
There was another thread, I think in the General that discussed all of this, what people came up with was the best combination if you want a dual port usb charger is to make sure you have a "charging only" USB cable. This cable will not make your phone think it is connected to a computer. You can tweek a data/charging cable to work but some people messed that up so it is probably worth just spending the $4 on a cable that works.
Here is my combination that works great. With this set up I can have on my navigation going with the screen on the whole time and stream Pandora over Bluetooth into my car and the battery still charges really quickly.
Dual USB Port with a 1 amp port and a 2.1 amp port (2.1 amp port is for tablets or power hungry devices - like the phone while navigating). http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0056VNVV8/ref=oh_o01_s00_i01_details
Charging Only USB cable:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VYBCAY/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
This combo has me as "Charging AC" whenever I am in the car and I still have a port open to charge another one of the 27 or so different electronic devices that seem to clutter my life!

I just checked my charger and it does say 700mA and also shows charging as AC. But in reality the charger was not able to charge the phone whilst on navigation.

Mine too, but I actually installed a dedicated 2 amp, isolated supply in my truck, shorted pins 2 and 3 on the USB connections on the board with a couple of beads of solder, and get full charging current on both my Nexus 4 and 7.
This is the supply I used:

Slow charging? get a better cable(with proof)

Yesterday I just bought a new 8000mah power bank(ProMini 8000), which has 2.1A output but I still not very satisfy with the charge speed compare to the stock Note 2 lte charger.
So I did some experiments, found out charge speed have A LOT to do with the quality of cables! Going to share the result with you guys.
here are the tests
1. First is "Note 2 LTE stock charger + Note 2 LTE stock USB cable"

1.8A, not bad!
2. "The new power bank(ProMini 8000) + The USB cable came with the package"
1A...meh
3. "ProMini 8000 + Note 2 LTE stock usb cable"
WOAH!! 1.5A, lower than the stock charger but really not that bad!
4. "Note 2 LTE stock charger +My old Galaxy Note 1 stock USB cable"
1A, So what material is the Note 2 USB cable made of? Uranium? Even Note 1 stock USB cable can't compete
5. "Note 2 LTE stock charger + some home depot generic micro-USB to USB cable"
0.6A Well, you get what you pay for..
Honestly, I didn't expect USB cable quality make this much of a difference.
I guess the Note 2 USB cable used some higher gauge wires?
Anyway I am going out to get some more Note 2 stock cable tomorrow, for the power bank and maybe other computers.
Great info. (although thought might mention this is note 1 forum!)

I don't think it has anything to do with cable.
Try this,
1. Plug the adapter to power socket,
2. Plug the usb cable to adapter,
3. Open battery setting in your device (note 1 or 2). Before plugging the usb to your phone it should show unplugged
4. Plug the usb cable to device. It should show either AC or USB plugged.
5. UNPLUG and plug the cable until you get what you want, AC (fast) or USB (slow) charging.
I would say that our device keep it balanced between fast and slow charging to extend battery life.
Give it a try and tell me what happen.

2m long extension cord for charging Samsung Galaxy Note

EVERYTHING YOU DO YOU DOIT AT YOUR OWN RISK Im not responsible for what you do on your device.
Here I want to share an experience that I have successfully led to the goal.
I wanted to make a 2m long extension cord to charge my Samsung Galaxy Note (and now Note II) .
First I bought a USB cable with Micro USB 2 m long, but I encountered a problem with slow charging fablet
then i bought 1,5 meterl long cable same problem SLOW CHARGING.
So what I did,
reading experiences on XDA, Google it, I talked to a friend who is an engineer electronics who advised me to by a charger 5v 2A
I bought a Genuine New Phihong PSC11R-050 5V 2A 10W Switch Adapter about 5e.

I cut the rear end of the adapter and soldered micro usb
Be cearful to test this wires YOU MUST BE ASSURED WHAT IS GROUND AND WHAT IS +5V
And WOALA here it is.:good:
2meter extension cable charging with same speed like original Samsung charger.
The whole secret lies in the fact that the original charger from 1A can not charge phablet with a long cable as well as a short cable with same speed. Voltage is same 5v,but with 2A covering a length of 2meter with stronger power.
No harm done ,did some testings (2weeks) and Im satisfied.
Happy soldering
And again,dont be afraid
EVERYTHING YOU DO YOU DOIT AT YOUR OWN RISK Im not responsible for what you do on your device
I've been using an extension cable to charge my Note and realised it wasn't able to change while I was still using it. At first I thought it might be the cable so I bought a USB 3 extension with no luck. I'm looking to do something similar to you but instead of hacking together a cable I was looking to get something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/PortaPow-Qu...TF8&colid=1J70VTV14YM9F&coliid=I3OO1ZN1EIVS26 It states it has a 2A output on each port so do you think this will suffice?
I use a 10 foot (3 meter) cable using my HP Touchpad charger which outputs 2.1A. No soldering or modifying at all.
When I bought my Touchstone charger for my Touchpad, it came with an extra 2.1A charger, so I use it to charge my Note 1 and Note 2 with the 10 foot long microUSB cable.

The whole secret lies in the fact that the original charger from 1A can not charge phablet with a long cable as well as a short cable with same speed. Voltage is same 5v,but with 2A covering a length of 2meter with stronger power.
So you need charger with 5V and 2A for longer cable couse you loosing power on lenght.
In electrical terms , 1A charger is fine as the maximum charging current doesn't exceed it.The on board charge regulator of note needs ~0.5V more than full battery charge voltage (4.2V) , If the cable drop is more than 0.3V (length and cross section of the cable conductor determines it), then the charging rate can be affected. In addition the cables quality used is also important .I purchased 3 cables (1M long) through Ebay and none of it charge the phone properly.I suspect the conductor size is less (may be intended for lower capacity batteries).
So in my opinion its the cables not the charger amps that matters here..
Your right in theory I also bought 2 cables of 1.5 meter but no results then i bought extension cord usb and same .
Then I trayed with old HTC Charger 5V 1A with 2meter cable, velding directly on board of charger one end (crossection of cable was standard for chargers)and i did not get any good results.
So i desided to do the same story with 2A charger(velded one cable direct on board) and i get same results like original one.

Z3C Battery Charging Thread

Hiya,
I' hoping this is the right section to post this in.
I don't have my Z3C yet, but I've been searching for information on charging speed, charging current etc. - and there is barely anything to be found. What seems to be consent: A full charge (0-100%) takes about three hours. But then, some people say an almost full charge (0-90%) takes much less, as charging current is greatly reduced for the last 10% to reduce stress on the battery. Sony itself also claims that a small charge (something like 0-10%) should be quite fast as well.
Then there's some speculation about QuickCharge 2.0 being used or not used, that you could use a Motorola 2.0A charger to charge it faster than with the provided 1.5A Sony charger etc., which also brings up the question which resistor values on the D+ and D- wires are necessary to toggle different charging currents. (Or I might be stupid and there's a standard for that by now, which is the same for all Qualcomm devices.)
To cut it short: I'd request those who have a Z3C to post some comments about their charging times, and at best even their charging currents. I used an app called BatteryMonitor on my Desire HD, I'm sure there's others around now that give the same information. If someone could try out different chargers and record charging current over time, maybe even with a pretty graph, it'd surely help all future discussions about chargers, docks, modifications, DIY charging issues etc.
[EDIT] I've created a similar thread over at the Z3 forums, as many things (such as resistor values and charging tactics) should be similar.
With the 1.5A charger it's almost the same speed as other flagships: about 1% per minute or so.
For quick charge, Qualcomm explains it here: https://www.qualcomm.com/news/snapdragon/2014/06/04/quick-charge-20-has-arrived
Because it's more difficult for me to get the Moto Turbo Charger from where I live, I ordered another quick charger on the list and will see how it works.
Hope I will have time to report soon.

Sorry for the delay. It's obvious that QC 2.0 works only when battery is really low. Not sure it's Sony's control thru hardware, or kernel, or charger's control.
