Battery add on for ambient display? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I enjoy the ambient display but I would like to have a minimalistic battery app for it without downloading another "ambient display app" any ideas?

+1

I've just installed "Ambient Battery" from the Play Store, but not sure if it's killed Ambient Display completely, as it's so frickin' random getting it to work!

disable auto screen wake - possible?

Whenever I touch/move my moto X play the screen awakes, is it possible to disable this so screen will always stay off until I push the power button? Tried looking in the screen settings, but can't find anything there.
I have another phone also with android 5.1.1 and the display is off until I push the power button - so this must be some motorola feature?
I want to disable it to save power, as screen flickering on and off all the time can't be a good thing.
There is an app called Moto and in there is display settings. I think you need to change the notification setting in there.

As above, you can change it in the moto app under display or in settings->display -> screen notifications -> none
Thanks! I thought that setting was only for getting the notification icons on the display!
FWIW Under same settings there is one called "Ambient Display" - it's sort of half way between the "Moto Display" and none in that if you hit the power button it shows current notifications + plus lights up when new notifications come in but does not turn on when touched (as in Moto Display). I use the Ambient Display to offset the lack of a LED for notifications. I'll probably flash the kernel to enable the LED'S at some point but in the mean time I'm happy with it.

Hi, where exactly is that ambient display setting? I don't see it in the moto app nor in my display settings under display. I'm on a moto z play unlocked. Not sure if that matters.

You won't see ambient display settings if you have Moto display. Once you disable Moto display I believe the ambient display settings will be automatically enabled
install glance plus.best ambient display like app ever.

Just disabled Moto display and ambient display is not enabled under settings, display. Or I'm looking on the wrong place?
Edit: Never mind, Moto display must be disabled under app. Not just turned off in Moto app.
Edit2: But ambient display does not turn display on for notification.
So the phone must use motion sensors, right? That must be why they have one called Force. You can use Jedi hand waving on it.
I'm worried that turning off Moto display isn't enough. The motion sensors may be running all the time and are surely a drain on battery. Is there any way to turn motion sensing off altogether?

Lightflow makes screen on 6P randomly show notifs when just sitting there???

Anyone else have issues with Lightflow making the phone screen turn on randomly when sitting on a table? The colors for the notifications are correct, but becausue of the screen coming on alot randomly this is going to kill the battery life. I even enabled a setting to reduce this in light flow but nothing works. Does anyone have lightflow working correctly?
Thanks!!
At the moment the only option is to switch off the ambient display. If there's an outstanding notification or one is getting updated it'll trigger ambient display and lightflow always has an active outstanding notification.
I've put a feature request in to Google to allow some control of when it triggers.

I don't seem to have this problem. Ambient display only lights up on new notifications, even with the latest Light Flow with persistent notification. I do have issues with light flow losing control on a regular basis and then I just see the standard very slow white led blink regardless of notifications. Activating lock screen promptly fixes and then I see the appropriate color and blink rare from light flow.

Thanks for the explanation. Hopefully u guys find a workaround
I also have had probles with the ambient display turning on seeminly randomly all the time, I didn't know it was light flow..
On another note, I miss the feature were my screen would turn on when I get a text messge (but not dismiss the lightflow) so in case the LED wasn't attention grabbing enough the screen turning on would be. Nexus doesn't seem to do that, can lightflow do this? (turn on the screen for 2-3 seconds right after a new specific notification, say text message?)

Out of curiosity is building the app with the new api's what triggers the need for the notification? Reason I ask is the previous (lollipop api???) version was working fine without the persistent notification on Marshmallow.

Yes that's exactly it.
I'm bringing out a new play store version later today which will be targeting lollipop's API for people who don't mind loosing android 6 specific features (ie runtime permissions, camera flash control) but don't want the notification related issues of apps targeting android 6.
a fine trade off for me. Had to stop using the app because of that for the time being.
Absolutely fine with me as well. Thanks for the great work as always Andrew.:good::highfive:

Ambient Display

Is there a way to remove certain apps from waking the screen? When I'm casting music from GPM, I really don't need the ambient display popping up for every song.

Ambient Display?

Anyway to replace AOD with Androids Ambient Display?
AOD is nice, but I'd rather have Ambient displays. Ambient Displays temporary feature which just shows notifications briefly is what I'd prefer instead of just an icon and a big ass click always there.
There used to be Xposed modules but those are pretty much gone nowadays.
Download NILS.

I believe NILS is for lockscreen notifications only, it won't replace AOD screen.
Ambient display turns on the screen when you receive a notification. This is exactly what NILS does if you set it that way and turn off it's notification service, so it'll turn on the screen when you receive notifications and show the standard notifications from the phone you're using.

Is there anyway to enable Ambient display for this device?

Like we enabled camera2 api and debloated apps. Is there anyway to enable Ambient display features.

Even if we could we shouldn't do that. It's a LCD panel the back light will be always on and will eat as much battery as in use.

You can ask a resurrection or lineage developer for a flash able zip to enable it.
Use app glance plus available in android play store.
