I really want long press punctuation in the keyboard - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had AICP installed on my Galaxy Note 4 because touchwiz licks balls. Anyways, the keyboard on AICP kicks ass. Basically it's just like the stock keyboard on the Nexus 6P, only it has long press punctuation, which I sorely miss.
However I don't want to change from stock to AICP, as I REALLY LIKE stock Android and totally regret buying anything other than a Nexus last time, and I'll never make that mistake again. I tried extracting the keyboard APK from my Note 4, but it crashes when I install it on my Nexus 6P.
Anybody know of a keyboard that works IDENTICALLY to the one seen in this screenshot? No, I don't want one with different themes or layouts, I like the stock Google keyboard with gesture typing, just I want these long press actions back.

I think that's the aosp keyboard.

Check out the 5 row aosp.

Eh I don't know, I sometimes get annoyed with larger keyboards. The stock one on the Nexus 6P is just right, only I want punctuation back.

I just achieved it this way: 1) flash Cyanogenmod 2) flash open-gapps using the aroma package and exclude "Google Keyboard". That way the Cyanogenmod version (which is the AOSP version, with the long press punctuation thing) is kept installed.
Just re-flashing open-gapps with "Google Keyboard" excluded after you installed it in a previous flash doesn't work.

What you want is the AOSP keyboard, you could probably find it somewhere out there. Or just use another keyboard like Swype or Swiftkey.

This is based on an older version of Google Keyboard buts works great.

Screencast black screen?

Hi guys
I use screen cast a lot on my n4. And it worked fine. But on Friday I restored my stock backup and then did the ota to 4.2.2. Then I flashed the latest faux kernel beta.
This morning, I wanted to use screen cast so I started it, created my video for like 5 mins. When it saved, I watched it but it was just a black screen! You can still hear my voice though. I ticked these two settings in developer settings (in attached screeny) as it said to do on the gplay page but still no luck!
BTW, I was using PA 3.0 beforehand.
Any help? Any suggestions on what I can do?
Cheers

Anyone?
Same problem here with an AOKP Unofficial 4.2.2. Reflashed back to AOKP MR1 Build 3 (4.2.1) and it works again. So it looks like this is being caused by 4.2.2.
Well i got this fixed by going back to Paranoid Android (4.2.2) so i dont know whats causing it.

Strange. I experience the same problem on Paranoid Android 3.1
Despite writing to the Developers, they won't fix it or even acknowledge.
this is a shame, i wanted to stay on stock, but i will try to flash paranoid to see if i manage to get screencast to work.!
Screencast was found working on Slimbean. But not any other mainstream custom/stock 4.2.2 ROMs. Such a shame.
I don't think the developer of the App is to blame for this. This looks like a framework change in Android.
So any devs know why it broke?
Still not working? I get black screen while recording on my S4 ATT 4.2.2.
Any Solutions??? or ALTERNATIVE

[GUIDE] Kind of multiwindow on every device using Xposed

Hey guys,
if you want to use a kind of multiwindow on your device, you can do this using Xposed Framework, SAO Launcher and XHaloFloatingWindow.
I only found out to use this in order to get multiwindow running.
I want to remind people that i am not responsible for any damage that might be caused using these methods!
1.Download Xposed Framework: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
2.Open it and hit the install button.
3.Go to the download menue in the Xposed App and look for XHaloFloatingWindow.
4.Download&Install the mod and activate it!
5. Reboot your device.
6.Open the XHaloFloatingWindow App.
7. Hit Moveable/Resizable and set it to enable.
8.Make sure that under System "Bottom App Pausing" is set to off.
9.Reboot again.
10.Go to the Playstore and istall the SAO Launcher (it`s something like Sidebar!): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xlythe.saolauncher
11.Open SAO Launcher and Start an app -> It will open in an window!
12. Now you can`t open an second app using SAO Launcher BUT you can tipp somewere else and open a second app normaly from your Homescreen/Drawer.
You only the SAO Laucher only for the first App. And be aware that pressing the homebutton will close your windows!
Tested on Galaxy Note & Ainol Novo 9 Spark.

YES! SAO Launcher is somthing like Sidebar. You only need to activate it with gestures :good:
wow looks pretty good.. was searching for something like that for my htc desire.. will try thx
this is pure genius. if only someone can create a much more simpler app out of this whole concept/idea.. multiwindow on stock is very much real.
because currently, resizing using current method is quite hard and you dont really get the size that you intended. well, you could, but it takes a longer period as compared to the simpler way in samsung devices

[Q] No Multi-Window Feature in OMNI ROM?

Hi everyone! I hope I have came to the right place. I recently rooted my Galaxy Note 2 on AT&T that was running 4.3. Had some issues mainly because I forgot to also flash Gapps to my phone. Anyway, before I flashed OMNI ROM to my phone, I was wiping data like I saw you were supposed to do when I wiped the Android OS... I know what you are thinking, n00b. Honestly, I have wanted to root my phone for a while but it seemed complicated. So anyway, it said I had no OS installed. So naturally, I freaked out. Then I thought, woah! I can just flash OMNI ROM now so I can still have a phone! Which I did and Gapps and my phone is working awesome now. Just like Android 4.4.2. However, the only feature missing is the Multi-Window Feature. Is this because I erased the OS before I flash OMNI ROM? I tried downloading multi window support from the Play Sore however it just said that I don't have a file installed or my device isn't supported. Which I know it is because I used to use Multi-Window like it was my job. Any help would be awesome everyone. Thanks and have a wonderful day! (Sorry for the long post)
Try to find an unofficial build for your device that has it. I maintain builds for the HTC One and Samsung Nexus 10 (m7att and manta, respectively) that include it. It's not in unofficial builds yet due to issues/coding in it, but it's decently stable if you can find an unofficial build in your device forum.

I downloaded one that was official and unofficial. Both said they had Multi-Window Support. Do you think I should unroot and go back to Stock ROM and try to re-root but this time not erasing the entire Android OS?

Not at all. The official ones do not have it. If the unofficial one you're trying doesn't have it, but is listed, then ask the person who compiled it.
If the unofficial version has multiwindow but you can't turn it on, then maybe you don't know how to? It's not the same as Crapsungs implementation.
1. Open any apps
2. hold down the home button to get to the recent apps
3. Touch and hold on an application
4. Select add to split view

Thanks everyone for your replies! I saw that Add Split View option before but I didn't know if I was supposed to be able to hold the back button to open up the Multi-Window Sidebar.

[PORT] CM12 keyboard on AOSP

hi everyone.
this is the first thread I open on XDA, so please apologize me for misplacing or rule infrigment.
I will immediately remove any file/thread involved.
I fell in love with CM12 keyboard [available on Michael's build], and I'd like to have it on my Ivan's AOSP ROM.
so i created a flashable .zip [CWM/TWRP] to overwrite the stock lollipop keyboard with CM12's.
the keyboard is mostly the same, but it does improve the second function keys on all rows.
here's an example picture:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
to install this keyboard, simply download the attachment, move it onto your smartphone, and flash it via your custom recovery.
I tested on my Mi2s [aries] with TWRP 2.8.5.0 and CWM 6.0.5.1 and it works 100%.
BUGLIST:
- swipe function does not work
- on CM12.1, text correction menu makes the app FC
CM12 MD5 checksum: 6649e62e909a7d6a95305fc57027fc09 - download
CM12.1 MD5 checksum: 3f426bfb22359da5ffd79fd0c247aee6 - download
I guess making a flashable zip containing an APK doesn't sound that much like development...?
Anyway, something to warming up the community is always welcomed
P.S. Why aren't you using CM12 already (the up-to-date one by M1cha)?

sure this is not properly development. but I didn't know where to open a new thread. maybe under themes and apps?
I am not using Michael's CM12 because of some bugs which make it not to be a daily driver for me. expecially mic bug and bluetooth music reproduced slowly.
as soon as these bugs will be fixed, I'll definitely leave Ivan's AOSP

Any chance for an update to CM12.1 keyboard?

Keep or Lose MF9?

HI all,
I'm looking to flash my phone with a newer ROM. I'm currently on one I installed quite a while ago. I'm now a bit confused on which ROMs I can and can't use.
My phone is MF9 according to what I've been able to locate in the about settings and phone info programs. I keep seeing stuff about OD2, but I'm not really sure what that means for me. Also, isn't there something about updating and it doing something to the boot loader?
Do I need to update to OD2 to use newer ROMs?
Will it lock my boot loader and what will that do to my ability to change ROMs later?
Lastly, and I know it's a matter of personal preference, what ROM would you recommend? I'm just looking for something stable. Though good battery life and fast would be nice too.
Thanks,
-Jeff
OD2 didn't lock my bootloader. The updated bootloader actually means you'll be free to use more recent custom ROMs.
As for ROM recommendation, usually it should be a no-brainer for me to give CM, but CM on this phone drains battery a bit too fast, so I'll hold back on that.

Thanks Andy,
So, if I do an Odin update to OD2, I should still be safe on my phone? That takes a load off my mind.
I did CM back on my Nexus S4G years before I got this phone. It wasn't bad. The battery life thing is a deal breaker though. Now that I know I can safely update without screwing things up too much I'll play around with a few. My main thing is to update my wife's phone so that she doesn't have problems. She always insists on matching phones so I can help her with stuff LOL
-Jeff
Only AT&T and Verizon lock bootloaders, you could try my ROM, Wicked X, in the Android Development section. Very stable and battery friendly.
