Since I am not yet eligible to add links to my posts, I can only tell you to go to youtube and search for "InvenSense MotionProcessing". I guarantee it'll be worth it and maybe someone could post the link. Awesome one handed motion command tech. Check it out!

this is the link, but i dont think it is really useable...
That looks like a lot of work. Goddamn...
So rather than pressing the call button and then speakerphone button, I have to do a 7-step of shaking, turning, girating, tilt shaking, etc...to activate the speakerphone after my call is connected?
What about to those people with old age, osteoporosis, or Alzheimer? THEY WOULDNT EVEN BE ABLE TO USE THE PHONE AT ALL!!
uh no, if u listen to the demo, u can setup 1 motion to do whatever u want in the same way u would set up a speed dial contact or a hot key, whatever. I know i would like it.

Yea, for you. If it's for mass-market, it would not. Imagine if you give it to your old grandma who has the memory of a pebble and expect her to memorize the different "hotkey" that she has set up and expect her to do it right...
how many "grandmas" do you know of that use smartphones? I bet you only need 1 hand.

How many people in their 50s and 60s using an iphone? Don't be retarded. This is not about smartphone and more about the technology in your original post. Sooner or later, every quasi-smartphones out there will have a accelerometer and can do what that technology describes.
I don't get your point. I think most people could figure it out quite easily and would be in the majority for the simple reason that they like new tech, and for those who can't, probably wouldn't even be interested in even a ground level smartphone. And you're right, sooner or later, every quasi-smartphones out there will have a accelerometer and probably most of the owners won't even use the tech. I know a lot of people in their 50/60's that have iphones because they're the "thing to have" and most of them have no idea what the phone is capable of. I agree, it's not for everybody. But I disagree and I still think that most people would love it including me but I just got my Hd2 about a month ago so I can wait.
I was a Nintendo fan until I wasted money on the Wii... Motion controls don't do it for me personally and just imagine tilting the phone so you can see the screen clearly without a reflection from bright sunlight and the phone going crazy...

My mother has it. She's not so good with technology but at least with this she could hold the phone 'still' and wait for the feature she wants to pop up.
Its neat to show, but not really applicable.
Just about everything shown there can be done already much faster and easier and with more stable results. Why scroll around the screen by holding a button and tilting the phone when I could just tap the one I want...?
I have enough problems waking my phone up in my pocket with out my jogging motion dialing out hanging up and dialing out again ever time I take a step.
It is neat tech, but I dont see it taking off in that form at all. Aspects of it I am sure will find their way into phones, but most of that is just for show IMO.
I think people are forgetting that apps are customizable. Just because it can do all those thing doesn't mean it just has an on/off switch and it's all or nothing. Don't you think it would have settings for enabling/disabling the different functions? I mean as far as jogging goes, wouldn't you just shut the function off much in the same way you would put your phone in airplane mode when you get on a plane?
I like doing one-handed operations and got into the habit when I had an iphone. And yes, you can do it already but I find because of the Hd2's larger screen, it's not as comfortable in my hand and sometimes feels like it might slip so to be able to answer the phone by a simple motion of my wrist like Captain Kirk answering his communication device would be pretty cool. And to go from one quicklink page to another by a simple tilt would be cool also. I would probably still choose an app with my thumb but that's my point. To have the different options would be nice. I would probably use the zoom function also. The reason I sold my iphone is because I got tired of chasing the next jailbreak in order to get the phone the way I wanted it instead of the way Apple would allow me. And the Hd2's hardware was too good to pass up and I have no regrets and the more options I have, the more I like it. I'm not gonna sell my Hd2 if that tech came out on a phone tomorrow but to me, if your spending a considerable amount of money on a phone, it should pretty much do anything I want it to short of cooking my dinner!
So you tilt the phone to get up the photo you want to show a friend, hand it over and they tilt the phone and suddenly they've scrolled through your album and are seeing those pics you took of your gf last night instead
Ha! Let's hope they already thought of that in the research and development department!
I'm lovin it
impressions, videos, more pics?
come on you know the deal lol

The last two pages of Samsung Vibrant A Galaxy S Phone Coming July 15th
It's on both I think
Yea I see it and I believe they are the same person or this person stole the pic
It's all a tease until I get one of my own. I just talked to a clerk at a TMo store and she said they have the phones in store, but can't sell them till the 15th.
TEASE!!
samsung held training events for tmobile reps and gave them one to use on the sales floor.
Congrats!

Ok guys yeah that was me posting on tmonews. I just put up my impressions of the phone so far and since I cant link I'll cut and paste here. No I'm not a Tmo store employee, I bought the phone from chinatown where they dont care about rules, just shady and greedy..Plus Im super impatient so I'm always down to get the phone early even if I go through those sorts of channels. Anyways, here is my impression so far:
Ok guys heres my 2 cents after having used the phone for 2 days now. As you know, I posted here and on XDA 2 days ago with a pic bragging that I got it early...I absolutely love it. The display is gorgeous, the phone is super fast with no lag experienced so far, the touchwiz UI is neat and other than the iphone style app drawer and notification bar you hardly notice it, and 16 geebees of internal memory means you can just download and add apps to your hearts desire without worrying about placing it on a sim card.
Im a first time Droid user, long time Blackberry guy, and for the past 2 months I've been debating between the Droid X and the Vibrant (in fact I'm first on the list at the local Best Buy for a DX but I obviously am not getting it anymore). I've done more research on these 2 phones than anyone can imagine. Im not really a super phone tech guy so I cant speak much to that, I'm more of a cool-gadgety feature, display, looks and feel kinda guy. I dont post anywhere really but I have followed this phone pretty much all over the web. So, I basically was deciding up to the last minute between the two but im impatient as hell so when i had the chance to get the Vibrant early I did. I do not regret my decision especially after now hearing that the DX cant be rooted.
My reasons for loving this phone: 1) Super Amoled...yeah baby, eye popping colors and unreal contrast ratio for super dark blacks...lives up to the name "vibrant" in that regard; 2) Ive been on a Tmo family plan and their service in LA is good and it would have cost me significantly more per month on Verizon; and 3) after having had the HD2 for 2 weeks and returning it (4.3), and having played extensively with my buddies Iphone4 (3.7), I have come to the conclusion that the Galaxy is the PERFECT size at 4.0. Large screen, yet pocket and hand friendly. (the thing that turned me off most about the DX was how it looked pressed up next to one's ear while talking....like a friggin Powermat lol!..
I havent played much with the camera or HD video recording nor have i tried the video out so dont ask, just lack of time.
I have some gripes so far: 1) I dont see an easy way to place the phone on vibrate mode. If i hit "silent" in the notification bar, it silences the phone, simple enough, hit it again, back to sound on...okay, but i want it to shake when its silent and to do this it seems you have to enter the Settings / Sounds and Display / check on vibrate....not user friendly, maybe there is an easier way i just dont know about or an app that will take care of it. Either way I think this is a touchwiz prob and not a 2.1 - Eclair prob. 2) When I am on a call that requires me to use the dial pad to enter digits, its annoying b/c the phone screen will go dark after only moments when you are on a call. To get the phone screen to show again (and hence the dial pad), you have press the lock/screen lock button on the right side and it isnt very responsive. After pressing a number to get to the next part of the menu, it goes dark again before I want it to, and the ordeal starts over....very annoying. This was when i used it in a phone/holder in my car. It seems that when you are carrying it around, seemingly tilting the axis makes the screen show again...Weird...sorry for my long winded explanation. Im typing this is a hurry, and i dont really care.
Avatar is cool but the characters look a lot more CG than they do in the theatre/blu ray where they look human. Transformers 1 and 2 i copied from the HD2 when i had it played beautifully. Compared to the movie playback with the HD2, the Galaxy was so much smoother. You could control the position of the movie along that little bar with much more precision and the load time was also noticeably faster.
Still getting used to having to "kill" off apps which is weird but the Task Killer "X" widget is a godsend. (im ocd so i gotta kill it all off if im not using it...hey its battery life right?)
Oh yeah, can anybody tell me why when Im seemingly doing nothing or just using 1 or 2 apps, the task killer when i go to kill apps shows that other apps i didnt even touch are running? Like slacker radio, etc...just random **** appears to be running sometimes. Like i wont be doing anything then Ill press the kill shortcut/widget thing and itll say 4 apps killed. Huh? i wasnt just using 4 apps....is this normal? Like background updates or something?
I've got mine already too, it is FAST, the GPS has no issues, locks faster then my G1, the bottom buttons seem to be the only touchy issue but I think Samsung did it on purpose so you don't keep accidently hitting the buttons and activating them.
I got my Vibrant yesterday and (of course) had to use it right away. The battery went down to the point of getting the popup notification (that is at 15% i believe?) and after that, I tried to open/play with the camera -- but instead was greeted with a prompt informing me my battery was low and my only option was "close" - there was no way to just say YEAH, I KNOW, LET ME USE MY [email protected][email protected] CAMERA!
..... any way to disable this? get around it somehow? Sorry Samsung, but if I want to use my camera, I WANT TO USE MY CAMERA. I don't care that the battery is low!
Every smartphone I've ever used for the past 7 years won't allow you to use certain functions if the battery is too low, to allot resources to more important processes.
Never had this problem on any other device (including G1). :\
I can't reproduce it right now, but it has a power saving mode. Go to Settings > Sound and Display, then scroll all the way down. It's the second last item. Uncheck it and see if that fixes it.
Just test on low battery and no the power saving mode doesn't let you take pictures.
Nope, I turned Power Saving off when I was going through settings yesterday, so that isn't what is causing me to get locked out of the camera.
Semi-solution: downloaded a 3rd party camera app from market (snapphoto pro which i had already purchased on my old phone anyways) which will let me use it, so at least i have camera functionality even if battery is low, but i'd still prefer to turn that.... um... "feature" off.
+1 on this "feature" its pretty crippling, not only does the camera not work but it also seems to turn your brightness down, also I don't think it will let you watch videos. C'mon samsung.
I understand the feature of it popping up a warning like "hey, maybe you should rethink this... " but to actually completely disable it is annoying. :\
Indeed, hopefully Sammy will 'fix' this with the 2.2 update.

I agree it ridiculous, we should have the option to continue rather than lock us out. I tried watching a video and its not letting me.
Indeed, if I'm on a flight and want to burn my battery completely, I want that option.

I was trying to drain the battery as well, like someone said before 3rd party apps will work. I installed the RockPlayerBase Beta to burn my battery to 0 by playing videos . . .
Btt.
I'd really love to see a fix for this. Anybody have anything?
Thanks
This isn't anything new from Samsung or many other phone manufacturers. My current G600 slider that is 3 years old does the same thing. Better to still have basic phone functions and SOS for the remaining battery than to end up taking a few snapshots and find a dead phone seconds later. It may seem like they are locking you out of your phone, but in reality the lashback from average joes complaining about their phone dying when they were trying to call 911 after a hit and run accident in the middle of nowhere can justify this "feature".

I understand your argument, but the entire focus of these forums is to change things we don't like or add new things on our phones.
You could extend the argument that "lots of other phones do this" to any number of annoying "features" that have been modded or hacked.

On the otherside, as someone mentioned if I'm on a flight watching a movie, I want to burn out the battery. Or I'm in a car accident and I need to quickly take pictures for insurance, I'd rather use that battery power. Basically, it's a nanny feature that many of us don't want. That's pretty much the point of these forums.
Hopefully this thread isn't redundant, but I just wanted to start a thread for early adopters of the Focus to discuss their initial impressions.
Coming from an iPhone 4, I definitely notice the lower pixel count; however the black levels and color vibrancy seem to make up for it the somewhat pixelated text.
In general, I love the phone so far. Setting up all my email accounts and getting my Xbox Live account synced was a snap. The hardware, while plastic, in my opinion doesn't feel cheap at all. Also I think that the thinness and tapering of the device is perfect for sliding in and out of a jean pocket.
One thing I don't like as of now is how IE renders web pages. I've been pretty impressed with the browser overall, considering it is IE, but here is my issue. When you load a page, all of the small text around a page is jagged and unreadable, while in my experience with other sections of the OS, the phones screen resolution is entirely capable of making small text readable. Hopefully this is just an IE thing, but we'll see.
Anyway, I'd love to hear impressions from other people and especially which phone their coming from to the Focus.
I picked up my device this morning, loving it so far. I am impressed with the build quality, it just feels like a solid phone.
I really love how fast and fluid this thing is. The back button is really great and helps make up for the lack of third party multi-tasking.

In your opinion, is the inability to clearly display small text just an IE issue or is it an issue with the screen?
I really think its the former, but I'm interested in hearing others' opinions.
I picked mine up this morning and the ATT store only had a TOTAL of 3 WP7 phones in stock. 2 Focus' and one HTC Surround. I was forth in line. Lucky the mall shop across street from the huge ATT store got 6 Focus' in and I was able to get one there.
Sucks the Transcend 16GB Class 6 MicroSD card I got doesn't cooperate with the OS atm.
Also sucks my Focus wont "Link" to my Zune account. It says "Your device isn't compatible with this feature". I'm not able to stream music at work. This is only the second device on my Zune account.
I picked one up today, only 3 of us in line, two were for focus at 9:10 am.
Had been using an iphone, still using ipad
Really like it, setup was easy, using the "pin" feature alot to make shortcuts to home screen.
purchased a nice case-mate for phone in bright red, very cool
synch of contact was a pain, had to upload file via hotmail
I love the people square, and pinning for example my son to my home page, quick and easy way to follow him on facebook
missing kindle app
ordered 32 micro sd card from amazon for $81.00, that will bump mem up to 40 gig
Picked one up like around 1PM didn't even have to wait in line. I guess people don't like WP7 here in the Bay Area. But anyways. I am overall satisfied with this phone. The only big gripe I have is some 3rd party apps in the market have very laggy and crappy scrolling. Twitter, and seesmic and also Netflix had some very choppy scrolling. Hopefully these apps will update and further polish as time goes.
I was also wondering if there was a haptic feedback option in the Focus while typing. I was testing out the HTC Surround and it had haptic feedback while typing. Couldn't find the option to turn it on or off if it has one.

Where did you buy the case? I went on the Case-Mate website and didn't see it.
yeah i iddnt see it either :/
I saw a few cases for sale over there including that one. There was one I liked where it was a black plate style case but $30 is way too much for it
I'm *hopefully* picking up mine today, as the local AT&T got depressingly low quantities at launch but for the people who already have theirs...can anyone give any impressions on the camera? I've read and watched so many reviews with varying opinions that it's hard to know what to think. I know ultimately it'll come down to preference, but so far, how do you lucky owners feel about things like shot time, white balance, auto focus, and the LED flash? Thanks, and hope to be joining in on the Focus fun soon!

Purchased it at ATT store where i purchased phone.
I spent few minutes with the phone at the local AT&T store today. They didn't have any in stock but I wouldn't have picked one today either. The UI is awesome and the phone feels really solid. I don't know why some reviews knocked off few points on build quality. It felt as good as iPhone 4 which I'd be getting for my wife. I'll wait for a little longer to see if there are better deals and also to see the performance in good 3D games.
impressions
I got this phone yesterday, and I really love this phone. There is something special when you see all your stuff just show up and start winking at you in the live tiles.
The only issue I have is related to the memory card. I installed a 32gb sd card and the phone was continually resetting itself. Sometimes when it came on it would have my stuff and sometimes it would be like a brand new phone. Apparently there is a fix coming.
Feature
I really don't care about copy and paste I so seldom used it with my fuze.
The features I miss or wish would improve
Custom ringtones. It's strange that they would leave this out, unless Att just wants to sell ringtones.
No way to just sync docs to the phone without a share point server. I'm not sure why this phone just dosen't sync with live mesh like my laptops.
I love this phone or at least the operating system

Does this case mate case cover the power button, or is it notched out? Does the case help with the accidental power buttons presses I am getting?
I really am liking the zune radio, I had forgot how much fun it was to hear local radio without streaming via internet.

I mean no harm, but are you sure you did not overlook it somehow? I really hope you overlooked something. Would you or another Focus owner please double check and let us know what you find, as this would be a deal breaker for me, no doubt. I wonder if the HTC or LG 7's have the same handicap? I'll have to stick with my Captivate if that's the case.
Thank you.
All WP7 devices do not have the ability to use a custom ring tone. Odds are this will be addressed in a future update (just like tethering, etc). MS kinda rushed this one out so i expect an OS update to add many of the normal features we all know and love.

You're probably right, but you have to wonder how an option that nearly everyone I know uses could have been overlooked
Everything seems to work nicely so far, but I don't like how this phone handles its volume controls.
For starters, you don't need 30 levels of volume to choose from. Maybe 10-12 would be fine.
Then if I set the phone to vibrate, I don't want ANY sound to play. However, the phone still seems to play game sounds and music from the speaker even if the phone is set to vibrate.
What this phone needs is volume settings for specific things like app volume settings, media volume settings, volume behavior for when headphones are plugged in vs when they're not, etc.
I say this because as it stands, I walk into work and I hold down the volume down button until it reaches zero. Then when I want to listen to music, I plug in my headphones, turn the volume up. When I'm done, I turn the volume down, and unplug my headphones again. It seems like it takes more effort than it should need to not bother people near me at work.
My suggestion: make it so that if the phone is set to vibrate that NO sounds play at all through the phone's speaker, regardless of what the actual volume setting is. Then say if you plug in your headphones, leave the phone on vibrate but only play sound through the headphones until they are unplugged, which then the phone would revert to being silent until the user turns up the volume again or turns off vibrate.
Other than that, this phone (and of course its OS) is great!
I've read countless reviews on this phone and have been waiting ages for this phone, but i have a few reservations before i buy.
1) I keep hearing the screen is very dim. Can anyone confirm this? Also, will a custom ROM be able to override the default brightness sensor?
2) Some reports say the battery is good, others say it is bad. Which is it?
3) Some reviews say the L and R buttons are spongy. One review even said that a game action required both to be pressed at the same time, and the reviewer found it impossible. 1 in 6 tries was successful. Are they really that bad?
4) How much do the official xperia play ps one games cost? (coolboarders, destruction derby, etc)
5) Is it bulky enough that you will be embarrassed taking the phone out in front of your work mates while making a call (sorry, had to ask this one )
6) Are there any custom ROMs already available for this and what is the risk of bricking the phone compared to other phones?
Thanks all. Hopefully someone with this phone can answer some of my questions. Happy gaming !

1) I've heard complaints too but I really cannot fault it.
2) Depends on how much gaming you want. I had it on for around 15 hours yesterday from 100% and it went down to around 60%. With casual gaming I have seen it go down to around 30%. I charge every night though.
3)On my first try I thought I would have a problem but it turned out that after I tried the second time and every time after that it was easier to do the action.
4) They're all £3.99 from what I can see.
5) Its not as bad as what has been made out. If you got it out in front of your friends, i'm very sure they'll be complimenting it.
6) Not yet but it is being worked on. I'm sure the process will be as easy/difficult as all of the other phones. (Don't hold me to that last statement though)
