6p Display lag when recording in dark/night situations? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hopefully this hasn't been asked yet, and i wasn't sure if it was a 'question' per say. I dont have my phone just yet, but i've played with one recently. and i noticed when trying to compare it with my galaxy s5 that when i was recording video at night there was display lag. What i mean is i'd pan the camera left and the screen was a half second behind it. I've experienced this before with older phones usually from the shutter speed i believe? but when samsung somehow did away with it (at least with my s5) I was unexpectant to see it again.
Are you guys experiencing this as well? It's not a huge deal, just feels wierd again.. Is it like this with most phones?

U know whats weird...this is that same thing that happened with mine but in daylight not sure why that is.. its very weird.. havent tried dark... i thought i was drunk...lol

Please....i need ur smart and honest opinion

Im using xperia arc as of now but im planning to buy sgs2 just for future proofing of a smartphone device..but im reading a lot of negative comments as to overheating aand yellowish tint on the screen and pinkish discoloration in the cam..or all u sgs2 users, can u comment with full honesty on ur device? Iys really my first choice..htc sensation will be my 2nd choice.. Will that overheating be fixed with a firmware upgrade? How bout the cam, battery and discoloration problem?
please please i need a smart and honest opinion..
► Well, I don't have any Overheating issues. I don't think there is any overheating issue if I am not wrong. Yes, it could be possible that some devices are damaged in manufacturing, but that's very few. Also keep in mind that the device will be heated if you play game for prolonged hours, if you play games while charging, if you put a bad/fully back covered case while charging/playing, but that doesn't mean Overheat. Always check Temperature of the battery before quoting it as 'Overheat', without a figure that term is meaningless.
► Pink spot in photos were a firmware related problem, which is gone away with new firmware releases. You could also try to update the Camera firmware separately.
► For Yellowish tint in display see this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079444
Besides, no device is perefect, each and every has their own problem, you just have to find a near perfect one, which I believe GSII is. You can go for Sensation too, then you'd have to visit XDA for much more time, as it will have more problem than GSII
Regards.
The only issues I have had is a broken USB port which I got a swapped out phone for, so no problem there.
The battery life is great as far as I am concerned even when moderately hammering the phone...4-6 hours of screen on time per charge depending upon what you are doing with it. It's only bad if you use badly coded apps installed I think.
Hardware issues such as a dodgy screen can easily be resolved by taking the phone back for a swap.
Software issues will all get sorted out with firmware updates I believe. Not that I really think there is much wrong.
People complaining on forums is a bad method of judging a phone, after all millions of people have the phone and there are relatively few real complaints on here.
I say go for it, you won't regret it, have had many phones by lots of different manufacturers and this is genuinely the first one I cannot stop playing with. It's a real life changer to be honest.
1. No yellow tint here, at least me and my friends can't see it on my phone even if it exists and general opinion is that it exists on every SII to a lesser or greater extent.
2. Pink spot on camera here, no matter which official firmware i updated with Kies, no matter what camera firmware i installed. It only pops up in certain conditions, that's why people say they don't have it or say it's fixed.
3. Overheating - depends on what one considers to be overheating. My battery temeprature never got past 48 % degrees, but this temperature feels hot for your fingers when touching the screen or back cover.
thanks for both of u guys...
implanning to buy maybe this last week of august..
in my xperia arc experience, i didnt encounter any overheating..in fact even when im playing need for speed or heavy gunnerm or gt racing which are my 3 fave games my phone dont event get warm...in charging, yes, but only for the first 30 mins i guess..
i feel it gets warm only when im using 3G when browsing..
i hope those problems as just an isolated issues...btw, im working ins saudi arabia as of now..im not sure about the latest firmware available here. i heard about gingerbread 2.3.4 already released for SGS2..is it already available in ur country or u still have to flash it yourself?
If your not in a rush maybe you could wait till the holidays, its rumored that a new andriod reference device ( the Nexus S ) will be out by that time, also a new Galaxy S line device for sure.
For the issues you posted:
1.) Overheating - Some phones seem to run hotter than others, ive been through a couple of replacements and this one I have runs hotter when gaming/surfing and also runs noticeably hotter when charging.
2.) Yellow tinting on the left side - Luck of the draw, if your buying the phone for its screen it might tick you off depending on how severe the issue is that you got on the phone, Using a 2.3.4 kernel alleviates this issue but the left side is a tad bit dimmer and is noticeable proportional to the yellow tint. Some users are not affected by this because they plainly dont see it (which is great) others have accepted this as a "normal" defect hence why samsung never rectified this issue. There are also legit QC issues on the screen refer to this
3.) Pink spot on camera - we dont really know if all phones are affected by Im guessing NOT due to the very low participation on the thread in XDA and also a very low or non existent internet media coverage about this, a very minor issue TBH.
4.) Battery Life - Its great, dont expect it to out last any netbook or laptop though.. I believe only the IP4 can outlast the battery on the S2 especially with wifi 24/7 with tons of IM and email apps.
i see no problems with mine .
love it in fact .

Honestly I have a lot of friends with iphones and the general consensus is that they get like 14 hours... Now maybe that is because they haven't updated or w.e but I just flashed the latest nightly and my battery life is really good so far... I expect to get 18 hours today.

Weird, I get at least a day from mine, moderate-heavy use..
Bought from T-Booth, unlocked from Bell to Rogers using an unlock service. Absolutely LOVE the device but the battery life is frustrating. With great power... comes great responsibility in keeping a charger with you. Apparently. lol.
I feel like everyone is being really picky when it comes to those issues, its just like the whole iPhone's antenna gate problem, it wasn't really a big problem because when i had the iPhone, i never dropped a call. I bet you that you wouldn't even notice the issues if you didn't read this forum

I've not had any issues with the items you mentioned. Maybe I'm color blind but I'm not seeing any discoloration.
I have never tried the xperia Arc but between the SGS2 and Sensation, the choice is easy, SGS2. I have both and the Sensation is a real disappointment IMO

Lol, but you didn't have AT&T. You don't antenna gate for dropped calls with that network
Buying a new phone for futureproofing is always a bad solution. No matter what, there will ALWAYS be new and better technology in less than a year after (Moore's law applies here too)... when that is said, the SGS2 really is a good candidate for holding on to in the next couple of years. But don't buy a phone, and think it's futureproofed - it's NOT.
If it's shear power, then the SGS2 really is a good choice, forget about the Sensation... it's really not that good!! I will say that the SGS2 is the best phone, i have ever owned... and that is said very honestly!!
If it's shear design... keep your Arc, as it's a very nice phone, and very beautyfull to look at. It also has a good camera, which is slightly better than the 2 other phones, when it comes to taking pictures in the dark. And it has specs, that is okay, and apart from space for apps - it will stand it's grounds for some time yet. And when it can't cut the mustard anymore, the SGS3 will be out...
Tend to agree, you will future proof for about a month or two, with the rate that new android devices arrive the SGS2 will be out of date by Christmas, but that doesn't mean its forgotten, it will be one fast beast for quite some time until the quad cores arrive next year.
The only problem I have is the incredibly slow charging time even on the standard official mains charger.
No pink tint in camera, no or I cant see this screen yellow thing.
Why the need to upgrade from the Arc in the first place? I came from the Nokia 5800, and that thing is just too limited for my use for example. Good thing S2 came out just in time

Relax, since you haven't even received your phone yet I wouldn't worry. Besides, don't forget the people posting on these forums are a fraction of people who have received this phone and have no issue. People post when they have issues, not so much when they don't.
The pictures they took were taken with screenshots so its all software. The displays are fine. When a phone first releases someone always finds something that's not right with it. I find that's very minor compared to the screen seperation with the nexus 7 and light bleed with htc phones

AMOLED problem forever: quality inconsistency
My Note 2 is much worse than my friends with greenish white and bad viewing angle (luckily it's also brighter)
No the pictures were not screen shots. Its definitely a hardware issue.
The pictures have the screenshot notification on the top... How is it not a screenshot where's the phone at then???

ive been thinking the same thing... but in the back of my mind, most of the people who dont have an issue wont post in the troubleshooting forum. yet, all the people who have an issue, and post in q&a will be asking questions and troubleshooting problems.
if you dont want the negativity (problems, troubleshooting) try the general forum, or accessories forum.

Pretty sure the screenshots are trying to show where to look for the effect.
Oh yes Its definitely an issue with the new amoled screen ... go to every place that has a demo set and try to scroll the settings page (dark black background) and you'll notice immediately ... its like the screen has a refresh rate of 10 fps in black bg
Very embarassing for Sammy ... this is going to blowout into a huge media issue real soon, you'll see
Yeah the screen shot are only showing you where to look it says but a couple of pages in there's a YouTube video if you watch it in 1080p on a laptop you can see it I'm just paranoid now haha pay 600 pound for a phone that don't even come on the day it's meant to be delivered haha
Tell me which Samsung phone with amoled hasn't had some people complain about the screens. I would venture that 95%+ of those owners don't have a calibrated TV or monitor, or even close. I have been very fortunate to have almost all phones I have owned to have virtually perfect screens. I've seen much worse with demo monitors, whether they be phones, TVs or monitors and people oooh and aaah about how great they look. So right now I am shaking my damn head.

If anyone with an s4 looking at this can you see the problem in 1080p videos or Facebook app or twitter or gaming as that's what I use my phone for
Ok. First thing, you start a thread ABOUT a thread. Why not just discuss it in the original.
Secondly, the smearing issue happens when scrolling in settings. Nowhere else. I'm sure you can live with it.

Yes. Just tried a video with a dark BG and a white person dancing. On low brightness you see weird artifacts sometimes. Also tried in Pocket, the text looks ugly when scrolling with dark theme.
can ou try on full brightness or 50 60 % and report back as thats meant to stop the issue
Mine seems fine... bit of a nit-picky thing anyways to be honest, hardly a common real world scenario...

One where a tiny, barely noticeable amount of stutter is going to destroy the browsing of a menu?
EDIT: OK, so it was so unnoticeable I missed it on my own screen, but I've noticed it to. Its hardly worth crying over though... as mentioned already, its pretty much only ever going to happen on the settings menu.
I can confirm that with the brightness turned up max, the purple tinge does seem to be reduced.

[Q] Disappointed.

Hi guys,
I was a (very) happy Galaxy S2 user and wanted to do the bump with the S4. I've got it with a very expensive price plan from Vodafone (yeah, blame me on that) and now I'm having a hard lifetime concerning payments and all that nasty stuff nobody wants to know about. I'm just explaining this to add for the disappointment I'm having with this new phone.
First it was the poor audio quality (yeah, I do really think S2 sounded better even if it had a poorer DAC), then it was the greyish LCD look of the screen (AMOLED, right?), the purple smearing & the slow response of pixel drawing... So, Today I've received the MEA OTA update and the phone got worse: faster battery draining, 1s camera lag, Adapt Sound (ace utility if you ask me) stopped working and never came back, some UI mistakes... issues well long and discussed in here.
Thing is, this phone is brand new, just got it for 6 days and I was also thinking of buying HTC ONE at first because audio DAC quality and, why not, to taste another Android flavour.
So my question would be: Would you recommend to exchange/switch it with somebody else for the HTC ONE on secondhand market? Or is it just a matter of lazy samsung devs? Will it get better (ie issues resolved) in some time? I'm just asking for oppinions, certainly nobody can give us those answers for real, but for the sake of wellness...
Cheers,
Slit.

I am also one of the guys who upgraded from s2..so far i am very happy with it..if u r talking abt the music playback audio quality then its way better than s2..so either u got a faulty device or u should factory reset and then apply the update again..no lags here..

thanks for your thoughts guitarmafia.
about sound quality: yeah, it appears so, and I do believe this Qualcomm DAC is way better than the Yamaha one in S2, although I do really hear it worse. Sounds more nasal, more resonant than the S2 was. Maybe I need to get used to it?
lag: I do have lag now, sunday night I was making pictures with Zero Lag alright (very impressed coming from an S2) and today, after the OTA update, I've got the camera firmware update and started to have shutter lag. My girlfriend's S3 does pics almost instantly, way faster than this.
Perhaps you should do what everbody does, and root it with a good Romsuch as Cyanogenmod or a good touchwiz one and you'll appreciate it.
I'm also disappointed since i feel my S2 was just as fast and as good.
S2 with NeatROM 4.8 was just as fast and as good as this S4, indeed. I do appreciate the FullHD screen compared to these 480x800, but instead we've got a greyish screen... and I do expect a quality product when I buy the flagship of Samsung, tbh.
Try a MF8 rom. Might fix some issues. Using it and have no problems. Smooth and fast. Dont know about cam lag because I dont have a reference point.

Oh, I see. Don't worry. I'm more confident with this screen and its response, although this isn't the phone I was expecting... and getting a i9500 is out of the question.

[Q] Should I swap my Galaxy Note 2 for Galaxy S4

I posted this in the Note 2 forums aswell but I'm just curious as to what you guys think, having presumably had the phone for a while. I'm planning on getting a S4 that's brand new tomorrow as a swap for my Note 2 which I've had for 3/4 months. Any thoughts?

I think it depends on your taste and needs. I prefer S4 as it is not that big, yet has a marvelous display and is fast enough for my daily use.
I did, am happy!
I did the switch after using Note 2 for over half a year.
I'm very happy with its size (got tired of holding Note 2) and its display.
Once official CM build for I9500 is released, I'm sure I'll be even happier.
Cheers!
As a person who did this, I'll help you decide with some simple questions.
Do you hate warm devices? The S4 gets hot compared to the almost always room temp Note 2.
Do you want to root it? No? Get it if the above doesn't bother you.
Yes? If you stay on stock kernel, then again, get it. If not, you might have some very annoying camera lag issues. If you don't use the camera a lot you'll live with it, but it might ruin some moments, or keep your friends doing awkward faces while the camera loads.

+1 for Camera lag issue
What kind of lag issue? I was debating between the Note 2 and S4 and ended up with an S4. I am very happy with my decision. S4 has no camera lag issues and no issues anywhere else. I'm almost always on my phone doing whatever and no lags....yeah it gets hot from time to time but that's normal if your playing a big graphic and processing hogging game and/or always on the internet uploading and downloading.

I don't have a Note II to tell you the main differences, however I believe you should hold on to your Note until next S comes if you're really willing to change your device . My cellphone before S4 was a Xperia X10 Mini Pro lol (yea, it's from 2010), Note II is still a recent and nice device! However if you really want to change now I'll tell you my experience with GT-I9505:
Pros:
FAST AS HELL! Can run any game on it with no problems
Display is amazing, vivid colors and very sharp quality. Jaw dropping quality IMO.
Slim and light.
Easy to root, good developer forums (at least GT-I9505)
Installed AOSP 4.3 and is even faster now (GT-I9505G = GT-I9505)
Superb camera (dad has a HX-1 camera from Sony, because of the fast processor I was able to take 3-4 photos while he was taking one, however you can't compare quality lol, not that S4 camera is bad, it's one of the best now, but Sony HX-1 is a CAMERA, while S4 is a CELLPHONE)
Sound is fine (will discuss later about this one in *Cons*)
Cons:
Gets really hot
Battery don't last too long (6-9h with moderate usage)
Screen too bright
Speaker placed in the bottom (after using my Nexus 10 with front speakers you notice the difference, I see myself putting my S4 over something without the speaker touching the surface to get better sound)
The personal opinions:
Screen size - Depends of your interest, I found it the perfect size for me (I'm 190cm with huge hands lol)
Beautiful device overall - I think it is at least
Physical "Home" button - I'm looking at you HTC One
That's it, hope it clarifies a little. Closing up:
This review was based on my experience with GT-I9505, I don't know about the GT-I9500, however viewing from developer perspective I'd recommend you getting the GT-I9505, as it's similar to GT-I9505G and has official CM support .

Wow. Thank you guys for all the feedback, I am a pretty small guy to be honest with small hands, that was why I was compelled to get a smaller device without losing any of the software features and the S4 seemed the only viable option to me, however saying that, I think I'd be best off waiting, the overheating seems abit of a problem as I do make long calls daily and the lack of use of custom kernels without the camera bugging up is a bit of a shame as I was looking forward to using it alot. But anyway guys, thanks for the help !!

It does, but only if you use a custom kernel. The lag gets even worse when using third party apps, sometimes it even reboots.
Stock kernel doesn't cause these issues.

The only time I've seen my S4 lag after a picture is if I have "Night Mode" on. After every picture it would say "processing." Once I turned that off, all the pictures that I've taken just snapped and kept it moving. I also have the review off. No point if your the type to take several pics and just keep the one that you like the most. That's what I normally do.

Convinced I have a faulty phone, this among onther issues makes it total garbage compared to my Note5 , lets hope my replacement will be better or that they know about some of these issues so they can be addressed properly via software update.
If not I'll just jump back to Note5, that thing was perfect in every way.
Just checked my slowmo and the audio is in sync with the video. Maybe try recording another, it could just be a one off.
