Ok so im finally getting around to posting about this.
Ever since ive had my S4 (may) ive noticed that I have huge lag when rebooting or shutting down my phone.
It sometimes takes a full 2 mins+ to reboot or shutdown. Startup is fine - maybe 30-45 seconds maybe less.
Its formatted with the phone using the format utility so I believe its exfat??
I only found out it was the sd card cos without it in its off within 2-5 seconds
With my old s3 it doesnt lag. My 32gb card doesnt lag.
What can I do to stop this lag? I almost miss my s3 (wife has it)
Btw its the same with ALL tw roms and all kernels (yes tried them all now)

People who are using the Galaxy S4 and the Sandisk 64GB card claimed to have problems with it.
Most of them got a new card replaced from Sandisk. That's why I use a Samsung card. Did you try a different SD card?

Not a different 64gb card no. Just the 32gb card I have.
Im sure that should mean that the 64gb Sandisk would also cause lag on my old s3 if it was faulty.

Some kernels don't support exFat. Only stock and adam kernel I believe. Have you tried formatting to FAT32? See if that helps. I've got a 64gb Samsung card that works fine can't say I notice a lag.

Im currently on stock kernel. I know some dont support but ones ive tried do.
Im gonna take a video to show the lag later

Here is a vid. This was a relatively short one. But you get the point.
I can film the s3 with the same card restarting instantaneous without any lag

anyone know if its worth getting the extreme sandisk that reads up to 50/80/90MB a sec?
will the note 3 SD card slot even read it at that speeds?
its pretty nice now that note 3 lowest internal is 32GB im sure ill be ok with it for my use but i know i will be wanting more memory later on and samsung some how always release the very high memory later or never..

I bought this card in June for my S4. It transfers at blazing speeds and has been worth every penny.

Avoid Sandisk cards. They have been failing at a high rate, and are slower compared to the competition. I'd recommend getting a Samsung micro-sd card from amazon for just a few dollars more.
I had the ultra in my note 2. Switched to the extreme a month ago when the Lyra started failing.
I found even in the note 2 a noticeable difference in read/write.

Totally agree. I plan to get Sammy's 64GB one for my Galaxy S4....
Is the samsung 64 gb micro sd card a good choice to use in my Note 3? Class 10, correct?
Yes I have one and it hasn't failed me since the gs4 and I put it in the note 3 and no issues what so ever .

I woukd rate them best in the class..... even better than sandisk ones....
Waiting for the price to drop a little bit more... never see them below 60 $
I have used both the Samsung and the SanDisk with no problems. Cannot recommend one over the other - both fast and reliable.

More info @ The best 64GB micro SD card for Galaxy Note 3
Samsung micro sd is my first choice its never failed me, second choice Strontium (Singapore) it just as good as Samsung and just a little cheaper (i was very surprised its performance and quality, i own 2 x 32gb its as fast as Samsung Pro class).
-Samsung still my first choice, Sandisk too many failure these days.

I use a Sandisk Ultra 64GB micro SD card and have recently removed it due to an overheat problem near the camera/flash area. I did not want to risk burning out the card (9months old) and I was told that removing the card might improve the over heat problem but it has not as of yet.
I have had my Note 3 for less than a month. In the time it has managed to kill two micro SD cards. I thought the first one was just and old card, but the second was brand new. Is this a common thing for these phones? Will T-Mobile replace my phone? Will they replace the SD cards their possibly defective phone killed?
Have you already tried connecting the SD's to the PC?
Try anyway to get swapped the phone when the micro SD aren't working on the PC. This seems to be very unusual!!

Do you live in a warm tempreture ?
Do you run games on it for extended periods of time ?
Are they a decent brand of memory ?
Does your phone run/feel hot most of the time ?
Lots of things could affect this, be sure to alert your carrier and make them aware that it keeps happening.
Ive had my Note 3 since release and a new 32GB sandisk Class 10 and its used A LOT, with no problems whatsoever.
Hope you get this resolved :good:
Usually warm temperatures don't harm that easily the SD, my note 2 hadn't had any issue regarding temperatures. Although when abroad in hot countries then phone heats up to 50°c without frying the interior. (I know it's not good but no other choice.

It's cold here at the moment. Middle of winter. I don't run games on my phone very often at all. I mostly just read e-books and take pictures which are stored in the now dead card. My phone doesn't really stay in any extreme temperatures. Texas winter is mild. Also they are good SD card brands. I can't remember the name at this second.

No the warm temps, cause the phone to heat up faster ( and stay warmer longer) thus*maybe* killing the SD card :angel:

What cards have you been using ? Cheap ones or well known brands ?
Texas #jelous !
Maybe Limlik, always used Kingston and they never died! When I had my Xperia Arc S, the phone was permanently running with over 40°c and nothing fried ^^ I think his phone kills Dr SD completely not by heat :/

Lexar, at this time, are the fastest class of sd cards. They are a pretty decent brand . I know the 256gb class 1 sd card retails anywhere from $499 - $1000+...
Have you rooted? If you have, maybe the cooling control has gone wrong - processor running too high too long

Does your phone gets hot when there is no SD Card in it?
I've read some posts on overheating of the N3 but only if there is a SD card in it. Have you tried to factory reset your phone?
There are people saying that simply turning on the Power Saving mode helps, and others claim that Samsung Knox is the troublemaker and by uninstalling it the issue was gone.
XDA developer App. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100. Using CyanogenMod 10.2.
The second card fried overnight while charging. Knox is disabled via root,
Then use it for a certain time without SD (an hour or so while playing or watching videos.) Then try with Power Saving. When not working try factory reset.

Samsungs kill SD cards. Anecdotal evidence is that Samsung's own MicroSD's seem to be more resilient. There is little to no benefit in using super-fast high end cards as the internal interface speed isn't fast enough to benefit from it.
Googling turns up many threads concerning newer model (S3, S4, Note 2, Note 3) Samsung devices frying MicroSD's.

If I read enough posts, most of the people were using a Class 10 memory card and faced this issue.
samsung told me over the phone class 10 is above the sdcard reader spec's so corruption is likely, they also said 64gig is not supported. Thats one reason I got a samsung branded 32gig class 6 card.

I don't see any other possibility, except for an hardware issue.

It's what I got, and I think that's right. Just to make something clear, S3, S4, Note 2 and Note 3, aren't supposed to support class 10. If you haven't got that issue good for you I don't have that issue either so I'm quite glad

I am looking to get a microSD for storing my music and photos to use on my note 4. I heard that microSD cards can slow down the phone's performance, can you share your experiences with the microSD and note 4 lag? Thanks
I'm using a 64gb microSD on my N4. I'm not sure on the lagging issue coming from the use of microSD or what since been using the microSD at beginning of ownership. N4 upgraded to lollipop

i have been using it since i bought the device and havent had any problem about it.. it doesnt effect your general usage but it can make pics showing slower in gallery if you buy a slow card.
I am using 32GB class10 MicroSD card from beginning and never have issues.

I did experience few delays when I used a class 6 microSD that I found in my old phone. Make sure you use at least class 10.
I'm using a Samsung 64Gb PRO - haven't noticed any impact on phone performance. I store all my photos and media on it, and even large 16MP images load instantly in QuickPic.
128 gb SanDisk class 10 here. No lag what so ever...
/CK
I've been using mine with a 32GB MicroSDHC Class 10 without a single problem.
Samsung 64gb card. No slowdowns due to it.

This is a bit of a loaded question.
Firstly, The speed and size of the memory card can impact the performance of the card. I use a 64GB Class 10 card and its around 90% full, i find that this does impact performance i do have lag when accessing certain folders.
The lag in my instance is caused with the fact i have over 3000 image files in folders/ subfolders and my app i use for gallery loves to thumbnail them all.
Games, and call recording etc result in next to no impact.
Scandisk 64gb class 10. Almost full, with a lot of music, pictures and documents. No lag at all.
i use a 32GB MicroSDHC Class 10 from transcend
It doesn't cause any lag but i'm testing the phone without it, suspecting it may cause overheating, even though probability is very weak
I have a 32gb Sony high speed I got on Amazon for ten bucks. Works great!
128gig here. Sandisk.
32GB class 10 since day one. Never had any lag.
I've been using a 32GB Sandisk MicroSDCard in my N910C for over 2 weeks now and I haven't noticed any lag at all. I mainly use my microSDCard for media, documents and photo storage. That way I don't have to worry about my N910C's internal memory running out.
128Gb Samsung Card
I'm using a 64GB class 10 Sandisk ExtremePro that I bought on sale and had used in my previous phone- I've tried the phone without the card and the lag is still there so I'm assuming the card isn't the factor. I'm on lollipop btw.
128 gb Samsung class 10 here...
im using a Viking Man 64 GB Class10 UHS1 U3 microsd card
