Questions about rooting Note 4 5.1.1 N910F. UK. - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have decided to root my Note 4 after seeing all these huge permissions lists for just about every app (I understand something like a flashlight app needing your camera or a speed checker needing Wifi but why stuff like contacts, browsing history, bookmarks, IMEI number...) Coming from iPhone it was really shocking considering you have the option to on&off those permissions when opening the app or in settings, but this is just take it all or leave it. Other than XPrivacy and maybe adblock i have no interest in doing anything else with root.
So what I would like to know is if anyone have any advice. I am a complete N00B at android and since this is a new and expensive device I am obviously very cautious. My previous phone was jailbroken but this seems like an entirely different thing.
There was not much info about rooting Note 4 5.1.1 except for these 2 links but I am not sure how reliable they are or how to judge them as they are not a lot of comments, maybe someone more experienced than me can tell. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpsGX_Xoxcg https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxynote4/comments/3j9gp6/how_to_root_n910f_with_stock_511_xxu1coh4/
I am using mac so it says it need to get Jodin3, but the download link seems to be offline http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2598203 http://goo.im/devs/AdamOutler/JOdin3
It seems that 5.1.1 is kind of new so is it worth waiting a bit and seeing or do the links above seem reliable.
Also I understand this void the warranty with Knox and everything but what about insurance.
Sorry if this question seems really dumb, like i said i am a complete N00B.
Also sorry if I posted this in the the wrong thread, new to this forum also.

[Q] State of Fascinate and Android

Hey guys,
Sorry for this "noob"ish post. I am new to the Fascinate after being with T-Mo for 2 years, which included a G1 (running CyanMod) and a Nexus One (which also ran CyanMod). I am just hoping one of you would mind giving me a quick 2 minute catch up on where things are now with the Fascinate, as there is way too much on these forums to realistically sift through. I have some basic questions...
1)I have noticed root is good and all that. I would assume rooting is all you need to get free wireless tethering? What program do you use to wireless tether once you are rooted?
2)I keep seeing something about "lagfix". What is that? My phone doesn't seem laggy, except for all the bloatware Verizon has put on it. So any info is appreciated.
3)I'm not crazy about the stock 2.1 ROM. Are there any good custom 2.2 ROMs yet? What is generally the best ROM for the Fascinate? On the Nexus, argue as much as you want, CyanMod was far and away the best ROM. But it seems like there is no CyanMod for Fascinates. So what are my best choices?
4)Is there anything else I should know moving to this phone?
I really appreciate anyone taking the time to answer these, as I know these types of threads are not the most popular thing on here. I want to get "in the know" with my new phone, but there is already so much on these forums, it's hard to tell what is still new and relevant and what is not. Thanks guys!

Also a G1 and N1 owner. Be happy to help.
1) Wireless tethering is accomplished by myself without issue via Wireless tether app on the market. It's under the radar so to speak, but required an ad hoc connection
2) The correct lagfix is the voodoo lag fix, with the informative posts being found on the first page of this forum. Basically, Samsung used an older file system in their build, and voodoo updates it to ext4, which is alot snappier on the r/w side of things. Without it, you will encounter a slowing of your processes after a period of uptime, and usually a small freeze while the phone does things like install applications. The flip is that voodoo instructions should be read very closely, and adhered to. Failure to do so will result in phone borkage, and while always fixable, takes some time and patience to do so.
If you are unfamiliar with Odin, as I was at first, make damn sure you always use the PDA option. Failure to do so can result in terminal frustration, and possibly a close to true brick of the device.
3) There are no 2.2 ROMs yet. The Froyo OTA should hit between now and Christmas hopefully. I would like to think we will see some custom 2.2 ROMs, and maybe a CM port by the 1st. In the meanwhile there are several ROMs on this board which seem to work for the people who use them. I'm a proponent of stripping and customizing stock to suit your needs, making your ROM your own. I haven't seen enough included hacks in the available ROMs to warrant a need for them personally. We have some excellent kernels available, and some pretty slick themes and mods, which works well for me.
4) The phone has the best processor/gpu out currently. The display is fantastic, and I don't see a better device on the market currently. It does have downsides, most notably the GPS, which isn't a huge issue for me, but which also has a fix on the way, presumably to be included in the 2.2 update. I also have experienced a shortage in the Wifi reception comparative to my N1, having approx. half the range I previously enjoyed. This seems to me to be software related, so I assume it will be addressable.
If you plan to root and mod, especially if you plan to use voodoo, which I highly recommend, be careful in your reading of instructions and applications of procedures outlined in them. As great as this phone is, mistakes are costly in terms of confusion and time to correct.
Thanks for the reply. Im always impatient, and as such, have already rooted before even waiting for a first response I used the one click method though and it worked great, exactly as advertised. Root Explorer works, so I definitely am good there, and I snagged the latest build of wireless tether from the developer's page.
Now I need to get started with actually switching out the ROM. I really want all the VZ bloatware gone and Bing needs to go as well. So now I guess I have some reading to do on installing ROMs for this phone. Process seems a little more complex for this phone that it was for my N1, but that may be just because it was so long ago and I don't remember. Thanks for the response though!
I am in a similar boat I use the Droid 1 and my fascinate is at the post office waiting for me per usps tracking
I think for now I will root remove bloatware and Bing and role with that till 2.2 maybe touchwiz aswell as I hear u can save ram that way and I paid for launcher pro so might aswell use it.
Yea, from what I've read, it sounds like putting a new ROM on is kind of pointless, since it won't be 2.2 anyway. So I think I just need some good instructions for this voodoo/lagfix stuff and some good instructions for removing all the vzn bloatware that comes installed. Once I do those two things, I think I'll be good. I am already running ADW, which I love, so I don't need any customization there, and wireless tether seems great. So I guess I just need to continue searching. There are lots of topics on the voodoo/lagfix thing on here, but I just want to make sure I find the most complete comprehensive set so I dont screw anything up
I'm somewhat of a new member, but have silently read through these forums for months... I used Dirks d02 sv1200kernal and the voodoo lag fix, I have been very happy with my phone since. I have been reading about the roms right now and don't see a point just yet. Freeze the bloatware from verizon and you will love your phone. Also have switched to LPPlus and think my phone operates so smooth!
I just received my fascinate friday, best buy sucked me in, lol, and I have no regrets. This phone is amazing, better than my d1 and d2. I too had a lot of the same questions about the lagfix and what not and would just like to say thanks, this thread def helped me understand. Can't wait until 2.2 roms

I posted on replacing the stock launcher with ADW or LP, as well as a couple lists of what is safe to remove. It's easy enough. I'm mobile our I would link the threads, but the replacement of bing its also covered in a post that includes some zips that will help.

What is LPPlus? Is it worthwhile/simple to do?
To everyone else, I am glad I was not the only other one on the fence. XDA can be a bit scary sometimes, because you don't wanna ask something dumb/"noob"ish, but at the same time, if you haven't been there since the beginning, playing catch up can be hard. I will say everyone in the Fascinate threads has been nice and really helpful so far. I am slowly working through getting my phone the way I want it. Its just a shame that Verizon has to mess up the phone with all this garbage. I dont care much for the iPhone (design or software), but the one thing they do right, which comes at the cost of being "closed", is that they can dictate the user experience right out of the box. Unfortunately a lot of people are just too timid or incapable of doing the things we do to our phones to get them "right". Its a shame too, because people base their opinions on what Android the phone company gives you rather than what it can truly be. Regardless, I appreciate everyone's help and look forward to being a part of this community. I work IT at a school, so I know my way around a PC, but I wish I just knew more about Android coding and how phones work to be a true contributor to ROMs, etc. At least I know I helped a few people by speaking up and creating this thread. Thanks again everyone!!!
Edit: Im putting this in as an edit, but I just realized that LPPlus is probably Launcher Pro Plus. Have you used ADW? Is there a difference? What do you see as its advantages over ADW?
I personally (and i think most of us here would agree) don't have a problem with anyone asking "dumb" questions, if they haven't already been answered. the main issue is that most of the new posts are either "I didn't read the instructions and F*ed up my phone", "hey i heard this crazy rumor it must be true", "Can someone explain the same thing there are already 6 other topics about" and "how can we take X from this other phone and use it on mine". your questions are understandable and asking questions before you jump in saves a lot of headaches from having to fix something you tried without understanding it. and honestly, no need to be afraid to ask anything, worst case scenario someone like me *****es at you over the internet. who cares. =)

SG N9005 4.4.2 ROOT without trigger the Knox counter

Hey there.
Am I right that as of now rooting my device will set the Knox count to 0x1 and there is no way around yet?
According to the linked post it is so
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498850
Well I'm just asking because he actually updated his thread the last time back in January and I'm afraid I just missed something here perhaps. Unfortunately I bought the phone second hand and it has been updated to 4.4.2 before.
It might seem stupid to ask but I already searched the web for quite some time and all l can find is pretty old.
May someone just answering my question please?

I'll tell you what not to do: use Kingo Android Root. I had read somewhere, possibly on another forum, that it would work. So I looked at their site, and strangely, Samsung wasn't shown among virtually every other manufacturer. But I downloaded it, and ran the program.
Needless to say, it tripped that flag, and it also left the phone soft-bricked -- only running the bootloader every time it rebooted -- until I ran CF Autoroot, which did root it but would trip the flag anyway.
And incidentally, I also soft-bricked after flashing Clockworkmod Recovery. After restoring it once before, I almost shat myself. But the fix was entering download mode (Vol+Home+Power) and pressing the Up button.
Scared the hell out of me, because I've had the phone like a couple days. Before that, I managed to screw up two LG G2's, plus had a third one stolen. Guess I can't leave well enough alone. Anyway, hope you have luck finding 0x0... if you find it, please tell everyone in this thread. I searched and read for half an hour, and found nothing.
Towelroot - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784883
Thanks for all of your replies. Towelroot seems quite interesting. Unfortunately l can't try because I already rooted my phone.
Due to the fact that my Note 3 running stock was just such a frustrating experience l really couldn't wait. I was so upset with the performance Samsung delivered with it's "flagship" device that now I really don't care about Knox. Playing graphical intense games was just not possible I could literally count the frames. And the overall lag continued everywhere!
Now I'm running Echoe Rom v. 13 and the phone is blazing fast just I would expected. All the s pen features are still functional and due to root access l have full control (l don't even want to mention the issues with the sd card integration I had before).
If it wouldn't be because of the s pen features which I personally really appreciate I wouldn't have bought a touch wiz device in the first place... Rather l would have bought a Nexus 5 or Motorola to be frankly.

[Q] Another S4 Panic Thread

I've been trying to follow the workarounds for the AT&T S4 root access, but remain confused. There seem to be so many different ideas / methods to gain root access that I'm totally lost.
Today; the pooch may have really gotten screwed. My S4 finally forced the 1337UCUFNC1 FOTA onto my phone, despite my trying to block it.
So; bottom line is: Am I completely screwed with regard to ever being able to root my device? I'm know I'm going to get a ton of rude comments about "reading" and "searching" but there's so many different opinions that have be debunked that I can't keep it straight.
So, my question is: Is there a "tried and true" method to root it that's not going to either brick it or cause other unwanted effects that are worse than the cure? I don't really care about custom ROM's nor voiding my KNOX warranty. I just don't want to make a bad situation worse.
Reason being; I have to use Total Recall that provides two way recording without using the speaker and mic. It's the nature of my job. I can't afford to be without it. My Note 3 is a $700.00 paperweight after having to warranty it out. I can't afford for that to happen to my S4.
Is there anyone willing to provide some useful help without ostracizing me? I successfully rooted a Motorola Atrix HD, so it's not my first time; but much of what I've read so far has been confusing regarding the S4.
Thanks in advance!
Jim
Just use the one click towelroot as seen in the other threads. I'm also on NC1 and rooted last night. Works like a charm.

Oh; that's awesome news!
Thanks!
Unbelievable!!! It worked in minutes. Verified root access. Installed SU Pro and Busybox Pro.
Now; I want to get rid of some bloat! And, freeze any future updates from robbing me of my new found freedom!
Super Kudos to everyone! This is wonderful!
I can't wait to get home and try it on my Note 3! That would rock my face!
Thanks again! Donation coming this Friday on pay day!

How to Root my S8 to remove that damn Facebook App

So I just discovered I can't uninstall the Facebook app which thoroughly pissed me off. If it's not system critical then I think I aught to be able to uninstall it. Especially with all the news about Facebook scraping phone messages and what not without permission.
So mostly I'm pretty happy with the phone. Still annoyed Google includes pointless uninstallable apps I'm never going to use. For the most part I just disable those and move on. With Facebook, I want it gone.
I'm happy to unroot my device when done or leave it rooted. I've never actually rooted a phone before and the closest I can say I've come is I've jailbroken an old ipod touch before.
So if someone could point me in the right direction to help me remove this blasted Facebook app then I'd be mighty happy about that.
Thanks
Firedingo
You should just be able to disable it without the need for root via the apps menu. If that fails, there's this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kunkunsoft.packagedisabler or another app callled Package Disabler Pro which should do the job.
I've also read about an app called Adhell which will work too.

Post above me is right, just for disabling/uninstalling Facebook, it might be overkill to root.
You have to know: There are different variants of the galaxy s8, based on the geographic location of where you bought it.
The international/european version is "easy" to root, while it's not possible to root an american Galaxy s8. There also is the fact that you void your warranty rooting, if you're outside of the EU ( see this)
So rethink your decission and if you still want to root, we can than show you a guide on how to

I have an international version, Australia to be exact. Yeah I knew that rooting voided the warranty. That said, the Australian Consumer Law is NOT voided despite me rooting the device so I may or may not have protection on that front depending on the issue.
I'd still like to know how to root my device. But thank you for raising those relevant points.

In order to root you flash a custom Recovery (TWRP in our case) via Odin on PC (Samsungs flash tool). You than boot up into that recovery and flash either Magisk or SuperSu.
Here is the thread: [RECOVERY][OFFICIAL] TWRP for Galaxy S8 and S8+ (Exynos)+

Pretty sure google's AOSP doesn't have this. This is a Samsung decision, not Google.

Is root possible on SM-G930P with G930PVPSACSF1?

Purchased a refurb S7 on eBay on the premise that it'd likely be on old firmware like most refurbs and I'd be able to root easy peasy- turns out it's running android 8.0.0 and baseband G930PVPSACSF1 and had everything updated last month and promptly wanted to check for even more updates when I started it up.
I've seen a lot of back and forth about which s7's can be rooted but nothing specific to this version as for some inexplicable version it appears Sprint released this update just recently for a three year old device.
I've spent most of this evening searching and haven't found anything that seems to indicate one way or the other. If I've missed something super obvious, I'd be grateful if somebody could point me in the direction of whatever reading I need to do to figure this out.
Thanks for any info you can point me to!
EDIT: One other thought- I've been looking into whether Magisk is a possible solution but I've seen a lot of different info as to whether it would even work on this variant of the phone, especially since TWRP seems to only have recoveries available for the international variants. Am I wasting time looking that way? I've also posted on the Magisk discussion thread to ask about it but I thought it was worth checking this forum as well since it's specifically for this phone.
Same issue
Have the same issue and can't find a root method for this phone too. Would like to remove the Sprint bloatware
Any news about it guys? I have the same phone and would like to root it. Willing to be the test dummy if it helps

No and I wouldn't hold by breath either. Rooting has always been iffy on this phone from the start
@CyberSA @ekco06 I haven't seen anything and I'm torn between going ahead and flashing the 930U firmware and just returning the phone and getting something easier to root. The main thing I need is to be able to have unlimited wifi tether which seems to be possible with that firmware, but being able to use Titanium backup would also be really nice as it's been a staple for me so far.

Check out pdanet. It works well, but requires you to create a proxy to connect, but super easy. Probably won't work on game consoles, but works well on PCs
Quick update: Jumping ship. This phone is being returned and I'm grabbing a google pixel xl - much cheaper, same general age, less bloatware, easier to root, and better camera from all indications.
