I still see it on the Google Play store but all my local retailers are sold out or blowing them out at $89 (Canadian) instead of the normal $109.
I haven't heard any news on being discontinued but the price drop and lack of availability looks suspicious.

Best Buy had them for $49
Walmart has them for$49 too.

Ha ha ha ha. That's my second thought why retailers were selling them so cheap. Initial sales were on the Play Store, so these retailers probably thought the momentum would continue and after sitting on inventory for some time they realized sales were not as great as they probably thought. Cut the price to half and boom, got them flying off the shelves.
Best Buy told me they have been discontinued. They are completely sold out in my area and don't expect to get any more.
According to http://storechecker.io/ it is not available in any country Google Stores except USA and Canada. In my country it is out of stock from some weeks now.
Bought mine today at Target. They had it on sale for $69, but they price matched it with BestBuy for $49.
Available on GPlay Devices in Italy for 99€! Not a big deal ...
Anyway ... It could appear as discontinued but it's already getting marshmallow!

based on Googles track record the fact that they didn't release a new nexus player leads me to believe they're abandoning android tv not just the nexus player. It's a decent device at $50 and I just recently purchased one but unfortunately I expect support to start dropping off for it.... hopefully I'm wrong.

Seems there are already not many developers interested in the NP. Android TV is awesome, I have had a ton of fun with it so far. This device is an amazing one at an amazing price. Fingers crossed that with the $50 price tag there will be more developers inclined to develop for the NP.

Hopefully... i really like mine, i use it for Netflix, HDHomerun, and Kodi mostly. But looking at Google's own photos app which they just updated for chromecast support yet didn't include casting support for the Nexus Player does not inspire confidence...

It includes Nexus Player support now. Trouble is as on the Chromecast and New Chromecast, the casting quality is atrocious.
Doesnt look good
Just got my player last week and have been quite impressed with how open it is along with the ease of integration of the Live Channels app with my HD Homerun Prime (the TV Guide is better than my Comcast set top box). I sure hope they don't pull support for the NP and Android TV, but it doesn't look too good.
I have been wondering about the Nexus Player myself. It is odd that it has dropped to $49.00. I am hoping that it is due to a newer model / gen 2 is on the way and not because it is being discontinued and Google is giving up on Android TV. I know the Nexus Q failed miserably then Google gave Android TV another go and followed up with the Nexus Player. I don't think the Nexus Player did that bad and I don't think Google is going to abandon Android TV just yet. I know that they do not give up that easy and I also see support for future apps coming directly to the Nexus Player. (Twitch TV and HBO GO are supposedly coming to Android TV soonish?) I guess only time will tell.
I picked mine up for $69.99 at Best Buy a few weeks ago but it had an issue with not waking from sleep. I even selected the option in the menu that stopped the Nexus Player from going into sleep mode. It did not help. When I would turn my TV on all I got was "No Signal". I would have to unplug it and plug it back in. It got old fast, especially being my TV is wall mounted and I had the Nexus Player tucked behind it. I was planning to return it being I tried everything and then I seen it at my local Walmart for $49.00. So I returned my first one to Best Buy then I bought one from Walmart. I no longer have the issue I was having. I am not sure if it is because my first one was defective or if it was an issue in 5.1.1. (I flashed my new Nexus Player to 6.0 pretty much straight out of box)
All I know is I really like Android TV and the Nexus Player. I was an iPhone / IOS user for far to long! I recently made the switch to the Google / Android world. I have a Nexus 6 and a Nexus Player. (Replaced my iPhone 6 and Apple TV) I have no regrets and have not looked back since!
Google is still selling it for $99, so I don't think they will be discontinued. I bought 2 cause I saw it was for $49.99 at Best Buy in late September. They sold out at Best Buy after I bought them, but they have stock again and are still offering them for $49. Mine were working great until the 6.0 update. Now the colors look washed out. I hope Google fixes that issue soon. I might buy a 3rd or an Nvidia Shield TV.
Got mine of groupon for $40 ($49 -$10 promo) rooted it and blew out "android tv" in favor of "LolliRock" rom have it hooked via otg to a powered hub, 1gb usb eth., cheapo pc ir input (you need the CHEAP one the "green dot" versions don't work) I used this to program my dish network remote, now my entire setup works sat/surround rec/nexus with just my tv remote (the nexus remote is under something somewhere and I don't care). Not bad for $40 and some parts/pieces out of my junk box..

i wouldn't spend $50 on it. i've had mine since it was released and i'm really disapointed with it. netflix hardly ever works, no amazon instant video, casting functions straight up dont work, remote is terrible, and OS doesn't have enough going for it. i ended up flashing lollirock and using it as a replacement for an aging office computer, its good for that purpose. i just bought a aftv2 for super super cheap so i'm excited to see what it has to offer

just got mine yesterday at Best Buy (was the "last one" of a group they got in a few days earlier. I go in today (I work there) and lo and behold, the shelf is full, still at $49.99), did the 6.0 update (3 updates in all lol, from 5.0.1-5.1.1, 5.1.1, 6.0). so far I love it, Netflix works great, I dont use amazon instant video (not a prime user), loaded Kodi on it, even sideloaded a few apps (they work but not perfect yet). havent rooted or anything yet (still in the 14 day window lol). speaking of root, anything in the way of custom recoveries? (I like to switch between roms lol)
Currently comparing the nexus player, to the fire tv stick and roku streaming stick I have all 3 plus an older chromecast

Ok im deciding between the xoom and the gslate. xoom supposed to be out in the next 2 weeks, gslate by the end of march. they're similar in specs. But should I sacrifice the bigger screen (10.1 inch) on the xoom for a "possible" smaller (8.9 inch) 3d screen on the gslate. Gslate is definitely capable of recording 3d though. I have tmobile as my carrier also but I don't mind signing a contract with verizon either since tmobile doesn't have 3g in my area yet (I guess they haven't have time to update our network cuz they're busy bull sh*tting about their 4g network). So which one do you think is better?
Ps: I've also heard that if the gslate has 3d screen, it'd require a pair of 3d glasses. I have no 3d tv either.

im leaning toward the G Slate for myself. Im on TMo and I prefer a smaller joint. I almost bout a galaxy tab then these showcased at the CES. I would prefer a smaller galaxy tab like screen for mobile purposes. If i want a 9-10 inch joint id buy a laptop or netbook. But, they will still get my money...lol
I am leaning towards the G-Slate for 2 reasons.
1) I am already a very happy T-Mobile customer and not a big fan of Verizon.
2) 3D. I already have a 3DTV and I enjoy it very much, I disagree with it being just a gimmick.

Maybe I'm crazy but I still think of LG as the cheap, low-end consumer appliance manufaturer. They made a microwave I had years ago.
And, I dunno, as such I'm skeptical about build quality. But I'd rather something on TMO or something without a contract.
The Xoom looks awesome but I dont think I want Verizon hiding behind every MB looking to charge me more money.
Yeah, I'm kind of a pessimist.
I'm leaning towards a Wi-Fi version of the Xoom. If they don't do a W-Fi version, then I'll get a ViewSonic G-Tab and flash Honeycomb onto it.
I kinda wanted the G-Slate, since it definitely seems to look more appealing than the Xoom.. but I don't know about the 8.9'' screen size. If it was at least the iPad's 9.7'' size.. I don't think I want to get any smaller than that. And then I hear that the Xoom's screen quality isn't even up to par with the entirely irrelevant to this discussion BB Playbook.
I don't know what to want ._.

Well I'm kinda bored with the Windows OS. In fact, I hardly use it at all anymore ever since I got my N1. But I prefer the 10.1 inch on a tablet though, but 8.9 really doesn't make much of a difference to me either.
To other commenters: LG isn't a cheap manufacturer man.....they're the second biggest electronics manufacturer behind samsung in Korea. And No, I'm definitely not getting a Playbook since I've never owned a Blackberry phones to sync it with.
Where did you hear about the screen on the Xoom?

Get the Xoom, assuming the price isn't outrageous. Until proven otherwise I don't believe that the 3D screen won't degrade the visual quality on the LG unit.
Here's a limited shootout based on what is currently known:

LG=GE. You remember GE right? Their logo is only stamped over almost every light bulb in America.

Well early leak says xoom could be out at the price of $699 unconfirmed, I hope it's the unsubsidized price though. Gslate has not yet been priced. LG is a good brand cuz I had this messaging phone before the n1, LG neon, anybody knows of it? It was a great messaging phone. Thanks for link too.
But I also don't think that the xoom is the nexus tablet either. It'll definitely be locked down. If xoom is the nexus tablet because it has no customization on it, then so is the gslate.
But hopefully lol both of them are going to be low price unsubsidized.

No, the Xoom is definitely the "Nexus Tablet". Not because it is pure Honeycomb, but because it is Google's lead Honeycomb tablet device. Just like the Nexus, apps will be developed on the Xoom, it will be shown in all those major app release videos like the Nexus One/S, and Google will use it to demo any tablet developments they make.
Although I'm about to contradict myself, the only reason I wouldn't believe it is the Nexus tablet is because it is tied to a carrier. And even has the Verizon branding on it. The Nexus One and Nexus S were simply buy it if you want to, it wasn't tied to anyone, and had no other branding but the manufacturer and Google.
In this situation, I believe it was "Google asked Motorola to make a tablet", not "Motorola made their own Honeycomb tablet cause they felt like it". I'm really assuming that Google will handle all the updates for the Xoom, and they used Verizon cause they needed to put the device out on a major network with amazing advertising power.

It had to be google who asked for motorola to make it. you've just convinced me the xoom is the nexus tablet because I remember at d dive into mobile, andy rubin brought the xoom with him. +1 to you.
It just pulls a trigger to me that google was using samsung galaxy s to be the nexus s because they didn't have 3.0 and the xoom ready yet. So they just did a quick search and found that sgs is the most powerful phone back then yet. But that didn't please everybody of course.
Like you said google need a powerful network to rely on, so verizon is clearly the winner. Let me add to that though. Google doesn't play favorite. They've already released their babies on at&t and tmobile except for verizon and sprint. Plus motorola has had a very good relationship with verizon thanks to the droid brand.
I think im gonna go with the xoom. But I'll keep waiting and weigh both of them some more when more official informations are out. But verizon and motorola better keep the promise to upgrade the chip to lte 4g. Motorola just ditched the cliq xt if that proves what I said.

Amazon just announced free unlimited streaming for Prime members. Prime membership costs $79 per year.
I've been a prime member for years for the free shipping from Amazon. I've always thought it was well worth the fee, especially if you buy a lot of stuff online.
Now, Prime membership includes streaming of over 5,000 movies and TV shows, and the best part is it works on my EVO using the browser! Hopefully they'll have an app soon, but the browser works great with flash.
I still don't see why Amazon can do it but Netflix can't!
Who has a better movie selection between Amazon Prime and Netflix?
PS. My name is HondaCop and I approve this message.
I saw this elsewhere, wondered if it worked. Good news, makes me think I need prime back.
Looking through the Amazon movies, I'm thinking Netflix is better right now. I just hope Amazon continues to improve. I think the fact that they're now offering unlimited streaming shows they're ready to compete with Netflix.
I'm a Netflix member, but am pretty frustrated with them for not providing any way to watch their movies on an android device.
Go Amazon!

Competition is always a good thing. If Amazon would stream newer releases and increase their selections, I would probably give it a shot. I have Netflix and really enjoy, but the only issue I have is with their selection of newer releases available for immediate viewing instead of ordering the DVD. It seems like the only movies available for immediate viewing have to be more than 1-2 years old.
PS. My name is HondaCop and I approve this message.
Awesome news!
Can't wait to try this out. Considering there are about a half a dozen ways to get a free trial of Prime it is worth a try for anyone. I'm not sure if they still do it but students can get a free year trial.

Yeah, that's my point. I'm really frustrated that Netflix can't release an Android app that works on existing phones. They're supposedly going to support new phones that have DRM built in to the CPU, but won't be backwards compatible with existing phones.
Amazon has no problem making it work with Flash, so why can't Netflix do the same? That's my point. I wouldn't be surprised if we get an app soon that makes the interface a bit more user friendly than using web browser, but hey, it works!
Nice! Now I can get more use out of my free Prime account. I wonder if they'll have a PS3 and/or Xbox 360 app too.

pretty sure netflix has said multiple times that it isn't that they don't want to, its that they can't because the companies they have contracts with say they have to meet very specific terms to do so.
Hence, they are saying, that android is "too open" and there for these companies are scared of people ripping off the netflix shows as they are playing and keeping them.
so to keep android as open as it is, they are going to have processors that allow the DRM capabilities to keep these companies happy, so android doesn't have to be as locked down ad WP7 or iOS4
took some screen shots for anyone wondering: (took these on my Gtab but same thing except smaller on the evo)

free prime accounts wont stream anything, it has to be a prime account that is paid for. Quite disappointing.
Honestly disapointed with the movie selection on netflix anyway. Its great for tv shows, but even finding movies that are a few years old is hard (for streaming). Until they catch up with current movies im not too worried about watching on android.
If Amazon or some other competitor were to release actual new releases than id jump ship in a heartbeat...and Android support would make it a no brainer.
Besides which whos gonna rip a movie from a streaming service using their phone...lighten up movie industry...you make record profits in poor economic times and than have the gravitas to complain about pirating...how bout you stop paying rich people millions to play pretend and drop ticket prices to a level the average person can afford
awesome... works on 3g there seems to be a bit of buffering but that is to be expected. have not tested on 4g or wifi as of yet... doctor who david tennant special plays just fine. and amazon video works on fedora. goodbuy netflix
I'm loving this. Works good on 3g and great on 4g. Would love a dedicated app just for this so I don't have to launch the browser everytime.
Thanks OP for pointing this out! I feel like a dumbass because I am a prime member, and when this happened a couple days ago I thought "oh all that selection is on netflix, PAsS!" Didnt even think to try it on my Evo. Nice.
So your on your way to the Verizon store to pick up a flashy new Xoom tablet, but before you blow $599 or $799 there are a few thing root and non root users should know.
Before you head out to grab ur self one of these 10in Dual Core beasts you should know:
*You will not have the V-Cast market so if you pay for TV apps like I do one the ThunderBolt 4G you will not be able to use them.
*There is no offical or working Netflix app and if you have a Account with them you will not be able to stream movies using the browser.
*Blockbuster app dose not support our screen size or Android 3.0
So what dose this mean your thinking? You will not be able to watch TV or Movies on Xoom!
I know it hurts but there's more.
So your thinking humm the Samsung Galaxy Tab supports swype so at least that's something good I have to look forward to right.
Oh so wrong Swype dose not support swype Yet. I don't know if they will support xoom later but as of now no swype.
There is no SD Card support yet but an update to 4G LTE is sopose to enable this.
Motorola is not finish with the 4G update yet but when they are your gonna have to mail the Xoom back to Motorola for the software and hardware update. Although Motorola will pay for the shipping and handling your gonna have to go Six days with out you Xoom while they update it. It could be longer depending on shipping. Motorola claims they will not deny the update to root users but if they can not install the software they will send it back with just the hardware update. I myself will be unrooting anyway before I Send it back.
Oh yea and no SD card support means no coustme recovery.img.
That means we will have very limited development for a while and only development that don't require flashing such as kernels will be created as of now. But don't worry guys when HTC release the flyer tab we will have the sense for tablets ported by me.
So lets just hope we have a recovery by then.
Also I wouldent expect Souce code to be released until sometime after the update for obvious reasons.
So if your still making ur way to buy this device know what what your getting and getting into.
Over all it is an amazing device.

All valid points, on the point of Swype, I don't use the "Swype" feature but surely something like this is preferrable:

Well the Ginerbread one is pretty nice, I use it on my Galaxy Tab and Desire, never found a keyboard I like as much. Aside from the size of the screen (i'm not sure it it fills or is centered?) what's the problem with it?
Smart Keyboard Pro is looking pretty good and working alright so far on my Xoom. To get it to work properly you will have to change the key height to the highest setting.
This is how it looks when first installed...

This is how it looks after maxing out the key height...
Plus it has a lot of skin options because it uses better keyboard skins. Still needs to be updated to honeycomb. The keys may still be a tad smaller when compared to stock.
I use smart keyboard pro on my mytouch 4g and love it. But the best keyboard for the xoom is the thumb keyboard. I use it on my streak 7 and zoom. I have tried tablet keyboard, smart keyboard pro, swift key beta and I really like the thumb keyboard best

I was talking with the developerof thumb keyboard. And he said some really cool stuff is coming in the next version
" I'm currently working on a new release, rebuild from scratch upon a whole new core. This will unleash some extra functionality for Honeycomb, Gingerbread and Froyo."
Since I'm running 3 devices one with froyo 2.2.2(streak 7) gingerbread 2.3.3(mt4g) and honeycomb the developer wants me to beta test the next version. I'm looking forward to seeing the next version

Same here, you can visit network (tbs, abc, etc) sites that stream episodes or you can use great apps like tv show stream or watch live sports.
Loving Thumb Keyboard with the 10" layout other than the fact that it spams my logcat to say the resolutions isnt HVGA. Can't wait to see what the author has in store
Amazon video on demand works with the Xoom. Right from the browser.
Who would have thought that Amazon would be Android's biggest supporter?

I use slingplayer mobile on my Xoom and that works for watching whatever I want.. Just get a slingplayer at home attached to your cable box and you are good to go... COMPLETELY LEGAL I MIGHT ADD!! LOL
The app seems a bit buggy on the tablet and not quite as clear as it is on my Evo but it works pretty damn well as is... I have contacted the Dev to ask about a tablet specific version so we can have as good of quality as possible just like the phone version has.
Xoom Feelings
I have been reading all of the previous posts and I felt the need to chime in.
Let's not bash the Xoom. Help us make the Xoom better.
Yes it doesn't do this and yes it doesn't do that. Not every device is perfect out of the gate. I once read that the Xoom is the new Nexus One. Ahead of its time, but maybe not ready for prime time. I think this is a great way of looking at the Xoom, and I for one am ok with that. Google is going to continue to improve Honeycomb, and whatever comes after it. Whats really interesting is that this community will more than likely continue to make available new versions of Android for the Xoom, as long as it can take new versions. I myself like that. This is my end game for getting out in front of the masses.
Is the Xoom perfect...hell no. Is any device perfect...hell no. Lets embrace our Xoom for what it is, and work together to find solutions to what it isn't. This is the power of our community!

For those of you that haven't heard, Android Gaming is taking on a new face... an actual CONSOLE, that's right folks, your very on console, here are the specs and the back story behind this amazing creation:
Click to collapse
OUYA began as a project concept like many, but has quickly set itself aside from any other project that may have been like it. In the course of 8 hours, OUYA has raised 1 million dollars as a new Kickstarter Project, and this is not even including the other 29 days left for funding (people must really wanna see this come to pass). Here is why its so great (SPEC CHECK):
- Tegra3 quad-core processor
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB of internal flash storage
- HDMI connection to the TV, with support for up to 1080p HD
- WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
- Bluetooth LE 4.0
- USB 2.0 (one)
- Wireless controller with standard controls (two analog sticks, d-pad, eight action buttons, a system button), a touchpad
- Shipped Android 4.1
Pretty impressive right?Due to the unexpected increase in funding, we could very well see an increase in that internal flash storage, maybe even an expandable memory slot, who knows. But all of that Tegra 3 quad core, ice cream sandwich, 8 Gig goodness is not even the best part! This console has been rumored to hit a TV near you one day for a mere $99. That's right, you could Enjoy all your favorites, whether you're a shooter addict and have a taste for some alien slaying in N.O.V.A. 3, or maybe you like to feel the virtual wind in your hair in a nice race in Real Racing 2, and for you people that love to serve your country, shoot a couple of spies in Modern Combat 3, all for less than the price equivalent of 2 new Xbox 360 games. Not to mention, with Android's recent participation in Major League Gaming, this could set the bar on a new plateau. The (virtual gaming) world is your oyster, and these are just the hard core games, the sky is the limit with compatibility due to it running our favorite sweet treat OS version.
Want to check out a video from the developers themselves, check it out HERE
And for all you developers and hackers, this is your call to fame! the console is (and I quote from the people that made it) "hackable". read this quote from Mobile Magazine:
Perhaps the even bigger kicker is that there is an open SDK where they promise to provide digitally-delivered titles for free. I imagine the marketplace will start with a handful of freeware titles and free-to-try games, but it has to open up to paid games eventually.
So any and all (LEGITIMATE!!!! NO PIRACY IS CONDONED, but then again, that's Android's major loophole with the whole Open Source thing) hacking and modding is welcomed, say goodbye to JTAG-ing or jumping through hoops to make your console your own (you paid for it so you should be able to do any LEGITIMATE, cant stress that enough, modifications you want! get the message Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo?).
So, you could spend $400 on a Galaxy Tab, or even $200 for the Nexus 7 for HDMI output, OR you can pay $100 for a console that (due to the vigorous nature of the Android Community) will inevitably get full access to the Google Play Store for you to play your favorite games (and maybe apps, don't quote me on that though) on your 1080p HD screen. BUT I'm just the messenger droid, the real magic is happening behind the scenes and hopefully we can get some awesom updates! Stay on the lookout for this project, and keep on gaming!

UPDATE I !!!
Onlive Available on The Ouya at Launch
The Android console Ouya has signed a deal with cloud gaming service OnLive, meaning hundreds of games from over 80 publishers will be available when the console is eventually released next March.
UK boss of OnLive Bruce Grove said, "When OnLive first heard about OUYA, we were excited to see console gaming becoming more available and open. Like OUYA, we came to gaming with a new vision for making top-quality gaming accessible to more people, and we continue to look for ways to expand on that vision.
"OUYA is rethinking the console business, making waves by using standard technology to make gaming for your living room accessible, affordable and more innovative than ever. In OnLive's case, we pioneered a groundbreaking, cloud-based system that instantly delivers games to any device on demand."
Design Still in Progress
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE II !!!
Square Enix has announced it will release Final Fantasy III as a launch title for the Ouya console in March 2013.
In a statement translated by Square Portal, the company promised that they will also be providing more content in the future.
Final Fantasy III originally released on the NES back in 1990 and became the first Final Fantasy title to sell over a million copies, but has since had a 2006 remake for the DS. It seems this is the version Ouya owners will be getting as this was ported for Android devices last month, which is the operating system that the upcoming console will use
I love the ethos behind it
seriously, i don't see future for this. now every android-based device can run a lot of games, and more are coming. and stationary consoles like xbox and ps have much more to offer, but it comes with higher price, but it's a trade-off. Good luck though!!
They are up over $3M now, so I'm pretty sure they'll be able to give this a go. At $99, I think they have a shot for a lot of people who don't want to slap $200-300 down for a console (which appear to be moving to a digital download/streaming model anyway).
If they advertise well people buy them as a "first console" for their kids, they should sell enough to get into the market.
I'm interested in seeing how this project plays out.

basically, it's going be a a small computer based off a tablet operating system
looks interesting and if 99$ is the price, I think it will garner a lot of attention/interest... perhaps something that can compete against the apple tv?
Personally i think its going to be a succes, the fact that it is based of Android allows a VAST amount of customizations, Developers might even be able to make custom roms for it, it just opens up a whole bunch of possibilities for android and the gaming community
I think this is a fantastic idea! and I just pre-ordered mine for $99. Stoked to see where this goes!
Although, this does need the ability to have an external HDD, 8GB just ain't gonna cut it for AAA games, or more than 5 games on it at a time.
There is a nice review of this idea in Phandriud, I believe. With a read if you are excited for this.

With ≈25,000 consoles already sold by the second day and dev communities like XDA, I think this is already on its way to be a success. Once more people understand it's not all about flashy graphics, but more about free-to-play and tinkering with your home console, I think even more people will jump on board. On top of that, at $99 it's got high end tablet specs. Which will cost you 5x times as much. If this hits retail stores lots of parents and grandparents will be looking at this as gifts for the holidays.
I've pledged my console's worth and can't wait to get my hands on it.

As someone who has spend several hundred dollars building MAME/Arcade cabinets to get my old school nerd fix in this looks like something I would purchase. Granted I already have some original xbox's that are already loaded with emulators connected to my televisions and 2 Apple TV units in my house I can see this as being a device to combine the two.
I hope this project is successful and if they are available the next time I have an extra 100 bucks to blow I will likely get one.

This is why I've decided to go ahead and back the project. Even if it flops, those two things alone will make it worth the paltry $100.

I'll have two please.
If it all goes ahead as planned, they will be looking at releasing an updated version every 2 years i think. They cant go 10 years surely??
I ran across this the other day on kickstarter and was pumped, my wife was just shaking her head
I am excited to see where this goes especially since they were given the extra cash for development.
The ideas and concepts this is behind are great: an affordable console (not meant to compete with other consoles such as the PS3 or 360), development for it is free, and the creators urge others to root it as they wish! Great platform for indie devs, truly.
Though, I do see a lot problems here. One of them being the hardware for the machine, but it isn't with the hardware itself: it's with the progress of android hardware in general. At the rate we're going now, the Ouya will be too outdated to play games for more powerful hardware in a relatively short amount of time.
Another issue is with, again, not the machine, but with developers. Too many indie developers are notorious for pumping out lazily-made games and branding them as retro or just making no attempt at making quality games for a quick buck. And then you have free-to-play MMOs, but I'm sure you know where I'm going with that. To put it simply, the Ouya will be plagued with quite the amount of shovelware games, which won't bode well for its sale.
I think I had a few other points to make, but I can't remember them now, LOL.
Looking forward to seeing how this fares.

No one knows for sure if there will be another 10" tablet released soon. Since Android 4.4 was announced without a new nexus 10 I'd say it's unlikely. .. but I could be wrong. You might consider getting a used one, probably lots of people selling because they are hoping for a new model, so you can probably get a good price.

The 16 Gb version has been sold out forever. The 32 is still there, but with a catch. The entire page for the current Nexus 10 is still the old format with the different versions down below. The Nexus 5 and 7 have been updated to the new page version with quick swap buttons up top next to the picture. So yes, the end of the current Nexus 10 is close. Whether or not they will be replacing it or simply getting rid of the 10 inch line is the question. I see no convincing reason for them to keep the Nexus 10 with the old page style (even if they were keeping it in production). It looks and feels different from the N5 and N7 pages and already feels outdated.
Conclusion? It will be deleted soon. Outcome? Either a new N10, or complete abandonment. Given that Google was so adamant about making tablet optimized apps available in the play store, them scrapping the flagship designed for developers to do just that and not following up would be incredibly stupid. There's going to be another one, and probably soon. We just have to wait.
I'm starting to doubt they will release a new N10 this year, I think they'll team up with Samsung again next year and release the new N10 coupled with a Exynos 6 64bit processor while releasing the first 64 bit iteration of Android somewhere in the first half of the year, they may even wait until the next N7 event to release both.
I was really hoping that they would release the new Nexus 10 this year and all of the leaks for an Asus made N10 pointed in that direction too. I had also at least hoped for a half update, like for the N7, adding LTE or more memory, but I guess Google is saving the update for next year.
N10 current edition is not likely to be discontinued by Google. You still see support ongoing for much older Nexus products, so I'm certain no worries there.
As to a new model? No "official" communications from Google ever said one would be released this year. "Everything" that has led you to this conclusion is a combination of media hype and sources with "unconfirmed" details. The displays have all been "renders" that are also not provided by Google.
Either buy a current model or wait for who knows what.
But I'm certain that there is no 2013 edition.

I don't know if I'd go that far. Just because we don't have anything at this point doesn't mean it won't be released in the next month and a half.
Considering Google didn't release a new Nexus 10 with the Nexus 5 and as we have had very few leaks, I think it's more likely now that we'll see a new Nexus 10 when the next Nexus 7 is released around June. I definitely don't think they'll release a new one in the coming weeks.
Their strategy with the Nexus 5 was to create media hype - by deliberately leaking the N5 in the kitkat video and play store they got people talking about it with incredibly little effort and cost. This was very clever and meant people were really excited and looking forward to the release. With nothing at all like this for a new Nexus 10, I doubt they're at all close to a release.

Also the people holding onto the glimmer of hope that there will be a 2013 N10 need to just let go. Google already announced a new N7 and an N5. With only a month and a half left in the year I really don't see them announcing an N10. There has been NOTHING from them at all hinting to this and everything, at this point, is just being pulled from people's asses. If they were to release a new one I would bet my bottom dollar that they would have done it with the N5. Just stop guys...just stop.

Yeah I'm pretty much resolved to the fact they are letting the N10 slide for this year..
But last night I was using my HP touchpad with cyangenmod and I thought, this is really the perfect 10 inch android tablet for me anyway, I don't even NEED a new tablet.
1)It's tough as nails, seriously, I have dropped this tablet from about 1m height every night when I go to sleep. It usually lands on the screen. For about two years. Nothing wrong with it, not even a scratch.
2) wireless charging. It's amazing. Seriously. Those who have never had a device that wireless charges, do not know what I'm talking about.
3) It's ten inches
4)it's powerful enough to run cyangenmod very smoothly, plays back HD movies, and browses the web flawlessly. The only draw back is 1gb of ram but it's rare I use it all up. Sometimes in WEB OS I do.
5) It has webOS. I use webOS 90% of the time, which is when I'm just browsing. It just does it better than android, hands down.
6)for the other 10% of the time I need to use an app or watch a movie, I can switch to cyangenmod.
So in summary, I don't care there is no new N10 this year, because I already have a tablet that has/does everything I want!
I'm waiting for a refresh of the Nexus 10, so I can sell/trade my original one and buy it. Any idea when it'll come out?

This post is a joke, right?
I got to agree that we will not see a new Nexus 10 this year.
The N10 was never a big seller, it is priced more towards the high end unlike the N4, N5, and N7 which are priced to SELL.
Not to mention if the second gen N10 was real, we would have seen a credible leak by now, unless this is Google's best kept hardware secret ever.
Too much negativity in this thread. We all know nothing about the proposed new Nexus 10... nothing at all. If you tell yourself otherwise you're fooling yourself.
