But I'm not feeling the touchwiz on this s4 everything seems confusing and complicated not a fan of the Samsung apps aswell. How can I make this more simple like the nexus 4 for example

You could try a new launcher before rooting if you want to start out slow. Nova is pretty nice for example.
Here's a good place to start reading about rooting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219803

You can try out the i9505G rom.. Pure nexus experience. However if you've never rooted or flashed a rom before I suggest you install one of the many launchers available in the play store. Nova launcher is one of the best ones out there.
Hi, I had exactly the same issue, recently switched from iOS to HTC Sense 5 and now to S4. I personally hate touchwiz and find it unusable but love the s4 hardware, so I tried several launchers which did not really address my issues with TW. Without any experience and a bit of research I rooted my phone, installed a custom recovery and flashed GE 4.3 Rom. Works flawlessly, except for a battery drain which is going to be fixed soon.
I highly recommend this - definitely the best phone I've used.

I will flash the google edition rom when google actually release it ''officially'' for the GT0i9505. I have read somewhere on this board that they wanted to do this @ a later date.
Start out slow with a custom launcher like Nova Prime and then read up on rooting and flashing, once you feel comfortable, flash the GE rom and enjoy the AOSP feel.

I recommend Nova Launcher if you don't know about flashing Custom ROMs. otherwise Jamal did a pretty good job at his 4.2.2 GE ROM for the i9505.

Flash the Google edition of the S4 Rom and you'll feel right at home especially coming from a nexus 4.

Cyanogenmod 4.3

Hi all,
Forgive this thread and of course move/delete if needed, but I just wanted to voice my excitement for the day CM comes the the device. I will be receiving N9005 October 9th on Three coming from the Note 2 and simply cannot wait to not only start the customisation of Samsung TW but furthermore the moment beginning flashing the custom minimalistic roms that CM and AOSP bases will be offering us.
I'm curious to see how the performance and battery life etc will be, cliché questions I realise, and how such a lightweight system on such a powerful device will be a pleasure to operate. Also I wonder of the amount of available ram could ever be changed? So I see currently that there's around 2.3gb or so system reserved (don't quote me) available and so could more of this be released when on a CM rom?
Either way, just thought I'd create a place where we can all build up some discussion for when we first begin to get a glimpse of hopefully what's to come...
Hi there and good to hear you are exited about the Note 3, as for customisation i think AOSP roms will be the best way to customise, since one developer is allready trying to make the exposed framework to work its getting blocked by the Samsung KNOX security.
I'm getting the feeling stock rom customisation is getting tough because of this KNOX stuff.
As root will break KNOX. Exposed farmwork or asop deal will be the same

This is great news, this beginning is always so thrilling, in checking Xda so often to check the progress from watching root come out etc. I can't wait for likes of (here's hoping) Slim Bean to venture this way......

It is simply going to be amazing. Changing the DPI on this device, with the high resolution screen, the pure speed and debloated glory of the roms to come.... Plus all the beautiful themes!

Verizon Rom questions

I came from T-Mobile and Att, so I really don't know anyone in Verizon community. I'm looking at all the rooms and with the exception of Carbon and clean Rom have no knowledge whatsoever. Yes I've read the threads by I'm still a lil uneducated. First is there a way to run the stock room with PIE mod? I really got used to pie, and don't want to lose any of the LG apps. Anyone takes the time to give me a synopsis of a rom, I'd appreciate it. Aicp is new to me, as are they all

LMT Launcher will give you pie controls on stock launcher: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/01/23/lmt-launcher-brings-pie-goodness-without-the-custom-rom/
Most of the ROMs are very similar. They have PIE and Halo built in a long with the a ton of usual mods. With titanium backup you should be able to flash each of the ROMs and get your apps and data restored quiickly so you can explore the ROM options.
The only roms with pie are AOSP based roms like cm10.2 and Paranoid Android.
Carbon has it. Getting lmt to work is freaking me

[Q] Xposed framework? [SOLVED]

Did a quick search but couldn't find a definite answer, so does anyone know if the Xposed framework is compatible with stock rooted G2? It's the Sprint ZVA variant, deodexed. I'd really like to customize this phone a lot more but to be honest I'm really not too impressed with many of the custom roms because I've found a nagging bug in just about every rom I've tried. Stock seems to work best and provide solid battery life, call quality, etc so I'd prefer to stick with that, and customize the hell out of it.
Edit: tested, works great on stock with G2 Xposed. I am even able to install CM themes on stock with HK Theme Manager.

Thanks. I'm using stock 4.2.2 rooted. I just thought I'd ask before experimenting. I'm a bit leery of accidentally sending a phone into a boot loop that has a sealed in battery. (Though I hear volume up+ power will reset it, which is handy)

Best ROM for battery life and performance?

Last time I ever flashed a ROM or participated in this was about 3 years ago. I'm pretty fresh to how this works and all but i still remember the gist of it. I just got my nexus 4 and am hoping to make it better

ROM will be pretty much irrelevant. The vast majority are AOSP based, with the differences being visual tweaks and added features, which add little, if any, drain on the battery. Some features, like pocket mode, might drain a bit more, but it's up to you to use them. All will run smooth as butter, stock. It's things like live wallpapers, excessive widgets, and apps running in the background that'll cause lag and stutters.
Custom kernels can help with battery life, but it's a small percentage, and it depends more on how you use the phone. A wakelock detector app plus Greenify can keep your phone from constantly waking and syncing, and that helps battery life a lot. And of course, screen brightness is the biggest battery killer of all.

Well if you want a really smooth and battery friendly rom, I'd recommend the L preview.. If you want a Kk rom I'd recommend liquidsmooth as it's feature packed and optimized really well. I personally have used both and right now use LS with Unleashed kernel.. It's a great combo. But in the end you gotta try out doff things to see what you like

So let's say I install L and matrix kernal. When the official update comes out, will I lose root when I update?

Well I doubt you would be able to even install an ota update of the official L.. You'd have to probably flash a new rom based on it or flash the factory image once it's out.. I'm sure rooted base roms of L would come out within a week of the release so you could flash that.. But if you want the ota, then you can go back to factory image 4.4.4 after release of L and get the ota after.. But no root.
