Hello ! I just bought a Galaxy Note 4 910F 32gb phone from a local carrier (Telekom) and unlocked it so now it is network free and can use any sim. The thing is i tryed with OTA 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 from samfirmware to get a rom working but i can't . I install usb drivers, flash TWRP (latest) with odin and after that i clean wipe the phone for system, data, dalvik, cache (for new rom) . I tryed 3 slim samsung roms on 5.0.1 and none work. I just get a restart after Samsung Galaxy Note 4 logo or with some i just wait on the Samsung glittery logo for 30 min and nothing. I did wipe cache and data from recovery but that won't work. I even changed the bootloader and modem for 5.0.1. and 5.1.1 and viceversa but nothing. The only thing i can get up to boot is CyanogenMod or Stock Samsung. Please help me ! i want a clean samsung rom without any bloatware ! So in the end THE MAIN IDEA is I CANT INSTALL ,,SAMSUNG ROMs '' only CM.
Please let us know:
Which ROMs you tried
The name of the TWRP file that you flashed
Which ROM and which modem/bootloader you are on now
and which ROM you'd like to install
1-SimpLite rom (and others)
2-2.8.7.0 + 2.8.6.0 + PhilzTouch 6.0.5.3 none did the job right regarding samsung custom roms beside CM wich works flawlessly !
3-Stock 5.0.1 N910FXXU1BOC4 , N910FXXU1BOC5 Bootloader , N910FXXU1BOC4 (i think it's from Greece but it;s the most lagfree and antutu scores even 51.000 )
4-Any samsung modified rom that you chose withlout bloatware and without interface change !
Ok. Lets say that our device is the samsung galaxy Note4 N910F and we want to install NamelessROMv5.
To do so we need TWRP and (thing that you probably done already) we have to download twrp-2.8.7.0-trltexx.img.tar from here and flash it to our device via ODIN (using the PDA/AP button).
Now we need to download NamelessROMv5 from here and put the downloaded file (V5_Aroma_MultiCsc_11_09_2015.zip) into our external sdcard.
The ROM that we want to flash requires OF2 modem and bootloader. To make our device ready then we have to download N910F_OF2_Bootloader_Modem.tar.zip from here, extract the .zip file and flash the extracted file to our device via odin.
To do so we have to put the extracted file (N910F_OF2_Bootloader_Modem.tar.md5) in the PDA/AP button of ODIN, then we have to put our Note4 in download mode (turning on the phone holding power, home and vol down buttons together), connect the phone via usb to our pc, let it be recognized by ODIN, make sure that auto reboot is unticked and press start. Once it is done, disconnect the phone from the USB cable take out the battery, put it back in and turn on the phone in recovery mode (holding power, home and vol up). Once the phone boot into TWRP, perform an "advanced wipe", Wipe data/cache/dalvik/system. Then go back to the home page of TWRP, select install, navigate to the external sdcard and tap on the V5_Aroma_MultiCsc_11_09_2015.zip that we copied earlier. Follow the instructions (This ROM should have AromaInstaller) and once it is done wipe dalvik and cache and reboot system.
Now after a bit our device should boot into our new custom TW ROM.
Let us know if everything goes well and if you have any question don't hesitate to replay to this thread.

No problem! If you enjoy your new ROM don't forget to visit the ROM thread and smash the thanks button good for the developer.
Little hint for the next time: read carefully the ROM thread and update your modem and bootloader in accordance with what the developer says in the thread.
If you want to know all the ROMs available for your N910F have a look at this INDEX.
Take care,
_mone
I did follow the instructions in the other roms but i think my sd card was broken . Anyway i will not know . Thank you again !

Rom has 5 parts, 1) main android os 2)Modem: it controls radios of your phone 3)bootloader: it supports booting up the phone, flashing *official* firmware , it will decide if a upgrade/downgrade is compatible basically works like BIOS but note that it will let you install only official versions of android signed by samsung, samsung official firmwares can be downloaded from website called sammobile, after you have downloaded a firmware in your pc it will be in the form of zip file, when you extract that file you will get a file in the form of .tar.md5 format if this file is extracted again then it will split up in parts like bootloader, recovery etc but you don't need to extract it again just flash the .tar.md5 file to Flash samsungs official firmware in order to do this you will have to enter bootloader's download mode on your phone this is done by turning off the phone then pressing volume down+power button+homekey on your phone the phone will boot into download mode will ask you to confirm firmware installation by pressing volume up key, *BUT* remember the downloaded firmware file is still in your pc so now to transfer and install it in your phone you will need a Pc software called "odin" just google "odin xda" and you will find download links, after installing and opening odin you will see it has 4 options BL, AP, CP,CSC (these are the rom parts i told you about you click BL and it will ask you to locate the bootloader you want to flash on your phone, click CSC it will ask you to locate the csc file you want to flash) but since we did not further extract our downloaded firmware we don't need to locate and flash these different parts manually if we just click "AP" and locate the downloaded .tar.md5 file it will automatically flash the whole firmware along with its bl,csc,cp and ap NOTE: First you have to put your phone in download mode then you have to connect it to your pc via cable and open Odin it will intimate you with a green box saying "connected " then you can go ahead and flash ur firmware 4)csc: this is country specific code, it enables/disables functions in the phone for eg the Samsung android firmware released in uk will hve its own csc and minor functions...and a firmware released in france will have its own csc and minor differences. 5) Recovery, this lets you clear cache, do factory reset etc in most samsung phones recovery can be accessed by shutting down phone and then pressing volume up+power button+home button at the same time and phone will boot into recovery mode. There is just an overview on how to flash different versions of "official samsung" firmwares on your phone before learning how to flash custom firmwares i suggest you learn how to flash stock firmwares first ( incase the custom os messes something up in your phone you will be able to get back to official software) There are many videos on youtube demonstrating how to flash official firmware via odin first watch a few videos on youtube before performing this.
NEXT: CUSTOM OS
Custom Roms like (stock android rom which is known as "cm" ) can not be flashed via Download mode which i talked about earlier in order to flash a custom rom you will need a custom recovery the official samsung recovery was limited to clearing caches, doing factory reset etc but these custom recoveries like TWRP, CWM have additional functionality which lets you flash custom roms (without entering and going through download mode) so in order to flash a custom rom you will have to download the custom recovery (i recommend twrp) for your phone's model from twrp.me (be careful install the one which is specific to your model or you could brick your phone) just download the recovery file in your pc, when you go to downloads section of twrp it will ask you to choose the format in which u want to download the recovery just download the one ending with .tar . Now to install this custom recovery in your phone, put your phone in download mode and connect with your pc and open odin, select "AP" option and locate the downloaded .tar recovery file and flash it. Now when you have flashed this recovery if you go to recovery mode (VOLUME UP + POWER + MENU while phone is off) you will see a different recovery than samsung's stock recovery.....this one will have many additional functions and options . At this point don't do anything just reboot your phone. Now that we have a custom recovery we can go ahead with downloading and flashing a custom rom to install a custom ROM follow the below instructions
> download the custom os u want to install (CM in your case) and place it in your phone's sd card, boot into recovery mode choose the option "install" it will ask you to locate the file, select the downloaded rom file and it will flash it. TADA...you will now have the custom rom running on your phone NOTE : again this is just an overview i suggest you watch videos on youtube and do alot more reading before doing this.
Very nice. I am in the same boat.
Coming from a Nexus 5 where we had android M and Flemental X which allowed for under volting and over clocking of both the CPU and GPU.
I want to root my 9100c which is on 5.1.1 but have some doubts about this complete Knox issue.
Still looking for good info on Knox. I dont care about my warranty. But what if Samsung releases an update say android M and it says you cant update because your knox is triped. ?
What are the best kernels for over clocking and under volting on the 9100c for the Nexus you could go with Franko or Elemental X on the stock Rom and you got everything you need.
Anything like that for the Note 4 ?.
Id like to keep the stock ROM, Root it and be able to under volt and over clock. Pls advise.
Huh this threads be merged or moved so not sure what happened to my reply but massive thanks for that explanation it helps a lot, I finally delved in today, its simpler than I thought but its also easy to make mistakes, I got a bit in over my head and almost bricked my note , and have learned it the hard way how to do some things, I thought there was only rom and root ^ and thats why I borked it mucking up kernels, and all sorts to the point I could only get into download menu, however now have a better understanding off it, and with a fellow member help I have restored my phone to stock, and will be installing CM13 from there.
Thanks again.
Hi,
I tried to install CWM on my rooted Note 3 N9005 with the latest 5.0 updates and the default recovery kept overwriting the custom. So I followed the advice on an article to delete the files [/system/recovery-from-boot.p] [/system/etc/install-recovery.sh] an this made my phone to fall in a loop, booting and trying to find these files then rebooting and so on...
I then had no choice but to load the stock ROM via ODIN which fixed the loop.
Is there anyway to install a custom recovery on a Note 3 running 5.0 - I want to do this in order to continue and install a custom ROM.
Thanks in advance for the answers!!
Don't use cwm as it has not been updated for a long time. Download the latest tar version of twrp for your phone.
Open Odin, uncheck everything except f.reset time, flash twrp, when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove the USB cable from the phone, remove the battery, wait about 5 seconds, replace battery, use button combination to boot into recovery.
Thank you!!
What did the trick was that I quickly removed the battery and went to recovery mode. Even with "Auto Reboot" deselected the phone rebooted so if I left it it would have overwritten again the custom recovery.
Just a quick note to help others... anyone trying to flash Darklord or Phronesis ROM... USE TWRP v.2.8.0 and not the latest. The latest version for some reason won't install the ROMs.
thanx this wad so heapful .

You're in the wrong forum by the way. This is for Samsung Galaxy Tab A Series not for Samsung Note 3's.
But I'll still help.
NEVER EVER TRY INSTALLING TWRP AND THEN CWM!!! THAT WILL BREAK THE BOOT IMAGE!
So, Odin does not work, so you should try downloading the latest version of ODIN from the ODIN website.
Then download your firmware from Updato.com (Press OS Updates on the top of the webpage)
Type in your model number and it should come out with results.
Press the right firmware and the country (I'm assuming you live in the US so choose XAR if you have it unlocked. If it is locked then it would be SPRINT or something like that. Reply back if you need help finding that.)
Download it (takes about 5 minutes for me)
Turn off your device and go to Download Mode (Volume Down + Power Button + Home Button)
Open up ODIN on your PC and then plug in your device to the PC with a USB cord.
Wait until it says Device Added!
Press the AP Slot and find the firmware
After finding it, press OK and then press START on the ODIN application.
THERE! YOU ARE DONE! Your Device should take a few minutes and it should be back to original.
If you are having a problem, then reply back to me and I'll answer you preferably at 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. (I go to school.)
Hope I helped!

Hello,
I have a SM-A700FD. Some time ago I installed a ROM from xda (https://forum.xda-developers.com/samsung-a-series/development/rom-t3462703) The ROM ported from c7.
Now I am trying to go back to the stock ROM, but I just can not flash any rom.
Some reasons:
1. The PC doesn't recognize the phone (neither download mode, neither recovery, neither with a ROM). I tried in 4 different PCs;
2. I've got the recovery TWRP. I can flash the ROM, but the phone is stock in the boot screen.
3. Without the connection between the phone and the PC I just cant use the ODIN. Then I cannot flash again the stock ROM.
4. I had success flashing the CM 12.1 (UNNOFICIAL, but the ROM is old and full of bugs). Neither the resurrection rom, neither stock works on my phone.
5. The phone goes to download mode and recovery mode. My custom recovery is a TWRP 3.0.2-0.
Then I tried many ROMS (AOSP and stock, flashing by recovery) and all of them stops on boot logo.
Anyone got any suggestion?
Thanks.
Regards.

You need to wipe your data partition. AOSP/CM based roms and stock roms do not have compatible DATA partitions.
The rom I installed wasnt aosp. Made the wipe already... Nothing changes.

If you don't have a hardware problem then the procedure below should restore the device to a bootable state.
Wipe data
Install stock with odin
Wait at least 10 mins for boot to complete.
Well. Tried but, as I said, my pc (tried in até least 4 different PCs) doesnt recognize my cellphone.
Thats not hardware. It appeared just when I tried tô change the rom.
Srry.

2- Install the drivers while you mobile is disconnected.
3- Put your mobile into download mode. (Vol Down + Power)
4- Run Odin and then connect your mobile after (It has to be recognized by assigning you a port number COMx in Odin under ID:COM).
5- Make sure that only F.Reset Time and Auto Reboot are checked under the ODIN Options tab (IMPORTANT: NOTHING ELSE IS CHECKED)
6- Select you Stock ROM in the AP tab of Odin and as soon as it is loaded hit Start.
7- The phone will restart and wait for few minutes till the Stock ROM builds its caches, optimizes its apps and start.
Hope this helps you restore your stock ROM and tell me how it went

Hi.
I made the procedure you said. First of all, Thanks.
The odin doesn't recognize the Phone.
The rom I installed in the first moment was Port from c7. I got that messages "warranty bit kernel" "Keynes is not seandroid".
Maybe something went wrong in that place.

Ok then it seems you have a bootloader problem. I suggest you unzip your A700FD stock ROM tar.md5 file by deleting the md5 extension (Rename SM-A700FD-ROM.tar.md5 to SM-FD700-ROM.tar), then unzip the ROM.tar file using WinRAR or 7Zip. Now you will have all the ROM partitions files including boot.img and system.img files as well as others. I suggest you place both files on your external SD Card via the PC (using a card reader) and then flash both from within TWRP (You can change in TWRP to flash img files instead of zip files) while formatting the data and cache partitions and reboot.
I believe that way you can restore the boot.img and system.img partitions, correct any corruption in the boot and system partitions and can flash the whole ROM again using ODIN or flash any other custom ROM (non ported) as soon as your mobile gets recognized by your PC.
Let me know how it went.. Good luck
Thanks a lot. I did not think in that way. I'll try and then ill post here if that worked. Thanks a lot.

Hi all,
I had rooted my note 4 and have TWRP installed a while ago. Been using my phone for ages without installing custom ROMS, but recently it's been restarting every once in a while.
So I went into recovery mode and factory data reset my device to start fresh (of course backing up all my data with Tit Backup beforehand).
But me being the cleverclogs went into Wipe -> Advanced Wipe and selected all the boxes thinking it will do a proper cleanout (Dalvik/ART Cache, System, Data, Internal Storage, Cache, Micro SDCard). But when I try to reboot it there's a msg saying "No OS installed! Are you sure you wish to power off?". When restarting the phone it just goes back to TWRP!
It's on it's last legs already but still it's my main phone. How can I install the stock ROM or I might even try custom ROMS (any recommendations?). I haven't installed a custom ROM since the S3 days so I'm a complete noob agian.
Thanks for your help.
Copy a ROM on your MicroSD using a card reader and insert it on the phone or restore using Kies.

You can try a Note 7 port, you can choose Racerom or Enhanced rom (if you have N910F model, for others models i don't know)...personally i have racerom v9 installed.
You just need to copy it to your internal memory flasht it, reboot to download mode and install the latest bootloader and modem with Odin, reboot and it's done....you need to search it for BL and modem here on XDA, it's not difficult.
If you choose to install a stock rom, remember you'll loose TWRP and root, everything it's replaced. Yo need to use Odin too.
Nothing to worry about bro. This forum will get your phone all set up and working.
At this point you have two choices
1. Flash stock samsung firmware (download the ***correct one*** according to you phone's model no from https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/. Flash it using Odin. Look up the procedure to flash firmware on note 4 using Odin. Its pretty straightforward. (Make sure you do NOT select the PIT section. Dont ask what it is, just remember its the most risky section and could permanently brick your phone... It is marked properly in the Odin tool so the chances of mistakes are very low)
Note that after flashing a custom ROM you will lose your Root and TWRP. (You can get both back later anyways.)
2. Flash a custom rom using your existing TWRP recovery. If you have samsung note 4 android drivers installed on your pc, then as soon as you boot into TWRP, you can just connect the phone to the PC via a cable and access its internal storage from there. Download one of the countless good samsung note 4 roms (again, check your phone model before you download) from this forum. Copy it to internal storage. If needed, download OpenGApps package and copy it to the internal storage as well. Then using TWRP, *install* the Rom package. Remember, the Rom takes 7-10 minutes to boot up after install so dont worry. Also you phone might heat up in this while. If it gets too hot, then maybe something is wrong... remove the battery and let it cool down. Then figure out if you have the right rom or not. Else download another Rom.
Once you have access to the storage, you could choose to install any of the custom ROMS available
Remember, there are many variants of the note 4 sold across different geographical locations. Before you download any firmware/rom, be sure to check if it matches the phone you have. Read through the Rom threads carefully. if needed, ask questions.
You'll be up and running very soon.
All the best!

Sorry to answer your question with a question but why if you have twrp installed on your phone would you even mess with Titanium Backup?..also always keep a copy of a twrp backup on a extra SDCard of thumb drive...twrp in my opinion is the best thing available for backup and restore over Tit Backup or Samsung kias..spelled the wrong
Just so you know, you no longer have a titanium backup of your phone , unless you backed up online....
That went when you formatted the sd card so it will be a total restock.

Thanks, I'll probably stick to the stock rom for now.

Went to the website and downloading this one https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note4/SM-N910F/VOD/download/N910FXXS1DQE5/169965/ (Seems my Note 4 is SM-N910F according to an earlier post I made). It's about 2 gigs.
Will follow the instructions at the bottom of that page to install it.

With Titanium Backup I was able to backup only certain apps, not sure if you can do it with TWRP.

Just so you know, you no longer have a titanium backup of your phone , unless you backed up online....
That went when you formatted the sd card so it will be a total restock.

I did copy my Tit backups to my PC before formatting it
I didnt take the time to read the post above but if you saved your backups on a PC I hope you're talking about your twrp back ups... if so transfer them onto an SD card put it in your phone and restore through team win you're good to go.... as far as a custom ROM for your phone as you probably already know all ROMs are just a preference no ROM is better than the other however my two favorite ROMs for this phone which I am back to lollipop would be Maximum Overdrive and the one I'm running now ...TEKXous hibrid n4... and I've basically installed every single custom ROM available for the T-Mobile Note 4 on marshmallow and on lollipop
Well after I downloaded the firmware and installed it with Odin following this guide:
Instructions
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.12.7
Extract Odin ZIP file
Open Odin v3.12.7
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes
I get this error in Odin:
https://ibb.co/gVrsdF
https://ibb.co/hmREsa
Now when I try turn my phone on in Recovery mode or try to start normally I get a black screen, in the top left:
ODIN MODE (HIGH SPEED)
PRODUCT NAME: SM-N910F
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
REACTIVATION LOCK: OFF
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0X1 (2)
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (CSB)
AP SWREV: S1, T1, R1, A1, P1
SECURE DOWNLOAD : ENABLE
UDC START
In the middle of the screen there's a msg:
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
I hope my phone isn't bricked! :crying:
Help! :crying::crying:

Do you have the correct device drivers? They're needed in order to Odin recognize your phone.
Also, you need to delete the ".md5" extension, it only end in tar extension
Or you can try another Odin version...i'm using Odin 3.10.7
its realy realy hard to brick a samsung phone^^
might be the usb cable. also may need to get the pit file and try with a NAND ERASE ALL & repartition. BE SURE AND PUT THE PIT FILE ON CSC
So while I'm No Odin expert, I think that this Odin flashing process has many dependencies.
People have encountered wierd errors with Odin and they were resolved even when the person just chose to use an original Cable (or another) Cable.
samsung drivers are very very crucial. I think you may be able to find them by searching for Galaxy note 4 Odin drivers (they basically come with Kies I think but not sure)
also very important to have kies turned OFF while you're flashing through Odin
make sure you have at least 80percent or more battery when you flash.
theres also some other stuff you need to be careful of that you should look up on Google.
there's a thread on Odin flash troubleshooting on xda...icant remember the name but you should be able to just Google it.
also Google for the exact error message you seen on Odin.. remember there are bound to be other users who have seen the same issue... so you may be able to find a solution via google
And most importantly don't worry, you'll be good soon.
edit: As far as possible don't mess with the Pit files. they're very risky if you don't know what you're doing .

I googled the error msg looked like I needed a PIT file since the Note 4 is 32GB. I also used an earlier version of ODIN and redownloaded the firmware (not branded)...and after a few goes it worked!
I'm back on stock firmware.
Thanks everyone! :good:
