So my WIFI is showing as being on in the battery screen, despite the fact i have it off, and i have the "always allow scanning" set to off.
why else would wifi be constantly on? is there a way to turn it off?
Check settings > location. Battery saving mode uses WiFi networks to better determine your location.

hot damn. i have it on battery saving mode. wtf it didn't do that on kitkat.
Sent from my Moto X Pure
so you're pretty much sayin that any time location is on, wifi will always be on? because I switched to just device then to high accuracy, and wifi is still on
Sent from my Moto X Pure
Go setting -wifi-advance-turn off scanning always available
yeah i did that lol.

WiFi was off all night since I was out. I have that always scan turned off and I have location completely off. wtf?

Google now?

so i rebooted, still did it. yeah I've got google now on, but this doesn't happen on any other device.
I went and fiddled around with stuff in sync.. i mainly turned on and off everything. I also turned on and off wifi, then on and off the always scan and something else I can't remember... and it stopped. so it must have been a bug...

I seen this same issue, and I'm using nova.
I found a solution, that worked for me.
It seems there are two different WiFi setting pages, depending on how you get to them.
One way is settings > WiFi
The other is via quick settings swipe down > touch "Wi-Fi" below the icon.
I've seen the first way show WiFi as off while the second shows it on at the same time.
What I've found is that the only way to truly ensure it is off is via quick settings drop-down.
Hope that helps others.

Why?
EDIT: I have noticed that this seems to only happen on LTE, therefore leading me to believe that this is related to the problem of Google Now not working on LTE/GSM.

Google Now uses the GPS to check your location if you let it. On my old phone too (AT&T Galaxy S II running AOKP JB) I noticed the same about every 10-15 minutes. I don't think it has to do with LTE though.

Not got the phone yet but does it still do this with lte disabled? Might be its not able to get position data from cell towers on lte so it defaults to GPS instead.

Yes sorry guys I corrected the original post, it's happening every 15 minutes approximately, but not just LTE, on WiFi, LTE, H+.. doesn't matter.

Think I might have figured this out. GPS data location when indoors (satellite's unavailable) is impaired with LTE on.
Can anybody confirm this problem?

Turn off the top two settings in Maps > Settings > Location settings and enjoy twice the battery life.

This doesn't solve the issue it only prevents data being used for GPS lock.
But yes if the problem exists it will stop the battery being drained
I'm on stock 4.2.1 ROM and Franco r23.
I have my Wi-Fi policy set to "never", which should turn it off when the screen is off and the phone is sleeping.
But it's not doing that and I don't know why?
I use Better Battery Stats and an attaching a couple of screens so that someone can suggest why the Wi-Fi refuses to shut off and allow the phone to truly enter deep sleep. The second screen shot shows that Gmail is the top process in terms of battery usage, so I'm wondering if that's the culprit as gmail sync is always set on push, and can't be changed to any other schedule?
If so, this is a huge oversight by Google.

I have the same issue but worse.
Not only does my wifi not turn off no matter what the setting is, it does shut off my mobile connection.
When I turn on the phone after a long time period I see the mobile connection triangle blacked out and after a few seconds turns back on.
After that the issue continues even when the phone isn't in deep sleep. VERY ANNOYING
But no matter what the wifi is always alive.
Still not sure this isn;t a hardware problem and if it is I'm ruined because I don't live in the states.
Let me know if you find a solution, I'll do the same.
BTW I'm on 4.2.1 stock rom as well .
same here, wifi stays on, even if in deep sleep...

Other strange problem, when I manually disable WiFi, like 2 times in picture, data does not turn on. I have to switch 2G-3G and it connects or airplane.
This is not fair, finally after all those years waiting perfect andorid phone... like someone previously said Nexus 4 is like Bugatti, nice, fast and powerful but only for few miles.
I need some help. My wifi just keeps randomly turning on throughout the day and its really annoying. I checked my settings and im pretty sure there is nothing that would do that but I could be wrong. Anyone had the same issue? Anyone know how to fix it?

Im using qualcomm battery guru and I went to the app to check my battery savings and I came across the manage wifi option. It basically says it will turn your wifi on and off based on your previous usage. Ill report back in a little wilhile to see if that fixed my issue.

I had this happen on mine and I think it was something to do with AT&T Smart Wifi. I don't remember though.

I don't use this app so I'm not sure if that's necessarily the issue, unless something similar is built into the Qualcomm chipset itself. It does seem to always enable itself at certain points of the day, I'm going to keep an eye out for a correlation.
So ever since disabling WiFi yesterday it hadn't turned on, and I thought it might have fixed itself. Today, I went the whole morning without WiFi and without touching the phone and when I looked at it later on it was enabled. I checked the battery stats and noticed that WiFi seemed to automatically enable itself the moment I woke up the screen to check a message a little while earlier.
I've also noticed that when this happens, it won't actually connect to my WiFi network when it's in range like it's not actually scanning for any networks. It also won't let me know of any open access points. If I disable and enable WiFI again, it connects like it should, or if I go into Settings -> Wireless, it'll scan for networks and connect fine as well.
It seems like this is a software bug that Samsung needs to address.
Hello everyone, I seem to be getting really bad battery life on my unlocked Moto x. I have 4.4.3 on it now but I've been having battery issues as long as I can remember. I tried turning Active Display and Touchless Control off and still no help. I RMA'd my old moto x for battery issues and this new one seems horrible too. Also, I am on wifi for about half of the day, have location services off, and screen brightness at about half most of the time. You can see how bad my battery is with my screenshots that I posted. Thanks for your help!

Factory reset . I always do after an update or rom flash. Yes you will lose data but if your rooted you should know what to do ,if not then well maybe we here is a non root backup option .

If that game of yours is calling 30 mins worth of wake locks, it's not the phone's problem, it's a poorly-coded game. That and facebook syncs a little too much even when the damn thing is disabled. I log out from facebook to ensure that it doesn't call upon any unnecessary wake locks.
Your phone is at roughly 50% after 4-5hrs, your screen on time is at nearly an hour, which isn't horrible considering that that game is still keeping your cpu awake for 1/8 of the phone-on time.
If I were you, I'd play the game, then swipe it away from the recents window to make sure it stays off. Your battery life will probably improve.
That and turn off location history, and also the wifi scanning setting, those both decrease the battery life for me.
Touchless controls and active display are built into the kernel, so they're definitely not the cause of your drain.
Show us some screen shots after running from 100 to like 10 percent. They'll paint a more accurate picture. Include the graph screen. ?

Some info on your setup would help.
What's running what's not. I.e. location services, gnow, what's syncing...etc.
Screen brightness?
Stuff like that.
Have you ever ran it until it died? When I went to 4.4.2(?) the battery life was bad. I found it needed recalibrated. I just kept playing YouTube and even though it said 1% it played for several hours before dying. After that I saw "normal" drain.

It is very unlikely that you have received 2 defective Moto Xs. Since you continue to have issues, logic would suggest that the issue is happening because of your particular configuration. One or more of your apps are probably not playing nice...
We may be able to help you further troubleshoot if you can provide the info @KJ has requested. Since the vast majority of us are experiencing excellent battery life with our Xs, we will need this additional info about your unique setup.
Please use the existing thread for battery related discussion: How is your battery life?
Thanks!

As many may have experienced, when connected to wifi after a few hours, WiFi stays on but disconnects from the access point for no reason. It seems to happen on the s6,s s5 and s4 on lollipop. Was I'm Howard forums and someone with an s4 posted something that may work.. Touchwiz has a wifi power safe option turned on. His will show how to turn it off.
Dial *#0011#
Then when the information screen shows up, hit "more" up top. Then hit wifi.
When the new screen comes up, just hit wifi powersave off to turn off the powersave feature. Haven't test for long. Let me know in the comments if it helps
Does nothing for me I'm afraid. Is this any different to the wifi setting "keep wifi on during sleep"?
Does also nothing for me...says wrong.. Mmh

S6 Disconnect Problem
I had the same issue and solved it by changing my routers security from WPA2/Mixed Mode to WPA2 Personal. Since this change, it works fine on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Tried EVERYTHING else first
this is an extremely annoying bug....data usage has increased significantly because staying on wifi is such a pain, rather just use mobile data. i've heard about the security change, but that's something I can do at home, nothing I can do at work unless I somehow convince corporate IT to change their wireless settings? haha, fat chance.
i just want to know did the change the OP suggested actually work? No one has reported that it actually works other than that it killed their standby time. anyone?
Worked for me, fido galaxy s6 edge thanks
