Removable battery? - Nexus 6 General

Looks like Google are listening to what consumers want:

I bet if you polled actual consumers, not Android/Tech enthusiasts, 95+% of them would say that they don't care if the battery can be removed or not. You would probably get similar responses about expandable storage. Just because that is always the complaint on tech blogs doesn't mean that it is what actual people want and buy. If that were the case, the iPhone would never sell. People generally buy based on price and brand, regardless of whether that would actually fit their needs best or not.

Android is open source and the hardware is in no way cheap unless you buy cheap phones. To take real android in account, use a galaxy nexus.

As far as quality, I have dropped my phone 4 times on the hard tile of Walmart (stupid memo app for shopping lists) and barely a mark on it. My buddy is on his 5th iphone from each drop it shattered and killed the screen...there is your quality. But Masaidjet is correct, you can't argue with iphone fanatics...they already proved their mental state in their choice of a phone made for children to use.

"Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience."
^ THAT!
Why did you post this? All it did was piss me off.
1. Samsung made the iPad3s "revolutionary" display. They even project to buy billions in parts from Samsung this year.
2. My friend has an iPhone 4S. And the retina display DOES NOT look better. It's far more washed out and far less saturated. You can not even compare the colors even at stock values.
3. The hardware IS pushing limits. The iPhone 4S' 800MHZ dual-core processor is outdated. And comparing it to the Atrix, which came out March of 2011, it is. Does Joe not know that the One X just came out with a ****ing 1.5GHZ quad-core processor? The screen sizes are much larger, have higher resolutions, deeper colors, curved displays, and lets not forget Gorilla glass. How are they going to release the iPad 3 with a dual-core processor and still charge that price?
4. How is Joe going to talk about the quality of the iPhone? That's absolute babel. Anyone in their right mind would know making a cell phone out of glass and an easily shatterable display makes paying $399.99 for anything not worth while. You drop that four hundred dollar POS? IT'S BROKEN! The back will shatter! The screen will crack! What the hell is innovative about that?! "All manufactures are trying to do is catch up to the quality and hardware" ***** please. Android abandoned that disgusting look and feel loooong ago. We ***** slapped you with no buttons, we ***** slapped you with better hardware, and we utterly raped you with what Android can do compared to primitive operating system. Ubuntu for Android is the perfect example.
5. He misused fragmentation and clearly put invocation where innovation should go. His grammar and punctuation is awful in some spots, and his use of words he doesn't really understand is consistent. And please bro, don't ever jump on us about bashing you for stealing functionality. Apple invented that. Apple invented and maintains backstabbing tactics, and has successfully set back technology years. Please, read this. Because it would take me too much time to explain why Apple is the devil and why Steve Jobs deserves to burn in hell for all eternity.
6. **** jailbreaking! How DARE he compare that to rooting?! How DARE he think that could be anything like it in any way? Android out of the box can install 3rd-party applications. And that seems to be the only thing he could say about that! Android being open-source should be enough to shut him up about that, but because he is clearly so stupid and doesn't know any technological terms outside of the tech blog he must read, he is oblivious the the capabilities of Android. This guy must think Steve Jobs was truly Jesus.
People like this are the blight of the world. The only thing I hate more than Apple are the people using their products. Especially the ones who know nothing about anything technological. Android is the best mobile operating system hands down. Not because it's disgustingly simple and "easy to use", but because it's capable of doing far more than iOS could ever hope to do. Android being open-source allows it to do ANYTHING. Any feature in existence and every feature to be invented can be and will be brought the the Android platform. "From a developers standpoint, there is no comparison in my eyes." Anyone who knows anything about actual development has dumped iOS. Because whether you know it or not, Android has taken over the mobile platform. People have left iOS for cheaper, more durable, more powerful, and all around better platform. So if you want to delude yourself into thinking that iOS and Android are still comparable. go ahead, but you're only kidding yourself.
That....is epic!!! Love it! Sorry for stirring the pot today, but did get some lulz! You guys rock! Good stuff.

And further to Darkie's rant; my buddy jailbroke 2 iPhones (4 and 4S) and both of them bricked. Had to pay Apple iGeeks a fortune to reload lousy OS. I can bring my phone back to Sprint and they don't give a flying rat's ass if its rooted or not.
Well, I hate to anger you guys further, but just got to my computer checking mail, FB, etc. And seen he commented again. I haven't been home for a while, so I have been yet to paste any of your responses there.
This is a long one too, but now I can cut and paste it.....
"It's always the same arguments. Citing 20 different phones, 100 different features, who has what first, etc.... It's the same on both sides of the argument. It all boils down to preference... Both sides will fight tooth and nail to make their points heard. But nobody can deny the fact that no matter what Android OS you're on, or what phone ( HTC, Samsung, Google, Motorola, etc ) they are never compared to each other or previous models, they are all compared to the iPhone. Since that is true, you gotta ask yourself, if Android is so much better regardless of manufacturer, then why? It's not apple or "iSheep" making these comparisons. It's rating companies, magazines, and media making these comparisons. The iDevices do, and always will stand alone. And every new phone will be compared to it. I don't think less of Android users... There is an argument to be made about anything. My personal preference is the iPhone ( being someone who as had and used both OSs and Android on several different platforms ). A lot of argument comes from people, and developers, who have never even owned an iPhone. Maybe just played with one in a store or tooled around on a friends. As iPhone users/developers/jailbreakers, we all agree that Apples restrictions to content is for the most part bull****. So to argue that one is better than the other from a downloadable content standpoint is valid. But I prefer the solid foundation that the iPhone provides. I think the OS is better implemented and that the hardware is superior to any competitor. Since I am able to jailbreak my device, I can install any software I choose, and again in my opinion is better than any content available in the Android Marketplace or on the stock Android OS. The rest is pure marketing. Are there pros and cons? Depends on what you need your device for. The simple fact is, Apples iOS is designed specifically for the iPhone. There are not 50 platforms. Android is open source so any manufacturer can add whatever feature sets they want to the OS. I think that's the biggest downfall, but that's how these companies sell their devices and try to set themselves apart from other manufactures. Android/Google don't care what features they add or what hardware manufactures install the OS on. The manufacturers pay to use the OS. Same with windows phones/computers. There is no quality control other than applications and software extensions have to meet minimum requirements to get licensing. All these manufactures have is themselves to compete with and usually offer up 1 "premium" model thats build to retail markup is ridiculous because for the most part, they use the cheapest commercially available hardware that meets spec sheet, not actual, performance standards. They put it all together in pretty cases with impressive looking feature sets then install a OS that was not designed to work on that particular hardware setup. Then they box it and ship it. That's why the UI is fragmented, but it's got a lot of appealing features that people gotta have. They tend to ignore the performance issues because they got all these bells and whistles on a 4 inch screen. Some features are useful innovations, but they come from developers outside of Google. Google buys software and implements it. Apple is not so open to outside development, but like Android, most of the innovative features were inspired from the developers in the jailbreak community and rewritten by Apple to work with the hardware. The point is, everything Apple is designed and implemented internally and each component is built by vendors to exacting specs. Much more quality control which produces a much more solid device. They have control over everything right down to the batteries and it is all designed with performance and durability in mind, they don't cut corners. The build to retail margins are much different... That's why they are more expensive and carriers are taking a hit selling them at contract prices even tho those prices are 2-4 times greater than Android based phones."

Why Nexus4 is dead cheap?

can somebody tell me why the #nexus4 is that much cheap ($350 ). to recall, the #galaxys3 cost is #700+. do you think #nexus4 is better than #S3 in all aspects?
dont tell me that wait for reviews...it will be fun to discuss before release....
what I am thinking is the samsung hardware better than lg.
From what I've read from different articles it's supposed to be a budget smartphone thus the price tag. Who knows what the real reason might be.
I'd say they did it to further compete against apple and their rip off prices. Really that is how I see it. Discuss

The Galaxy Nexus has been just as cheap, and the Nexus 7 is also much cheaper than most other comparable tablets.
Google makes most of their money off advertising. They want more people using their product, they're not looking to make all their money via device sales.

Samsung gets money off their devices, Google gets money off their advertise and Google play services. This is also a reason why Nexus 7 was so cheap
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel
I think google don't try to make much money from the hardware, but the nexus 7 and nexus 4 at those prices serve to get people into the google ecosystem, which is where the money is for them; advertising, collecting data, etc
It's an Android reference device. The point is to get stock Android out on modern hardware for development and hobbyist users. The low price is probably to increase the adoption rate amongst devs. If they get the price low enough (this is probably the sweet spot) it's worth buying even if it's not their daily use phone.
Google is reinventing the smart phone market. They price their products at an extremely affordable price. With it being brand new, completely awesome and it destroys the iphone. Who wouldn't buy?

Seriously what's with all the LG hate? Have you used the Optimus G? It is amazing and if the Nexus 4 is anything like it I will be VERY happy.
As for why the Nexus 4 is so cheap, Google is trying to create a brand, and what's the best way to build a loyal fan base then to offer an amazing device for an amazing price. They want to reach out to as many people as possible which is why they offer an 8GB model of the phone. Someone will buy one, show it off to their friend and then THEY will want one. It's a great strategy and I can see it working for them in the long run.

I love this phone already and don't even have it in my hands yet. Google=Genius for putting this monster piece of tech out on the market at such an affordable price point. They are essentially subsidizing the price so that they can build their ecosystem. Mad props to Google on making what looks to the be the best phone on the market and mad props to LG for the hardware. After my G2X, I told myself I'd never go LG again, but with Google handling the OS, it is safe to assume it will be nothing but buttery goodness.

That's just not true. Read some of the previous posts, as Oxirane wrote "Google makes most of their money off advertising. They want more people using their product, they're not looking to make all their money via device sales.". The price has got nothing to do with the popularity of the manufacturer...
Samsung galaxy nexus was 700 went it 1st come out. Nexus 4 starting price is no where near that. There r both Google.

The price you're paying for the Nexus 4 off of the Play store is Google selling the device at cost. Real world retail price would be much closer to the $599 that T-Mobile is charging for it when you factor in their subsidizing after the $199 up front.
They didn't skimp on features or hardware, this is just so they get as many people as possible on Android devices to spread out the advertising and get more people excited for development.

htc nexus

While waiting for my nexus 4 to arrive I do read a lot of complains and problems with this device.
Although a friend of mine warned me about LG quality and defects, I'm trusting Google.
But I am curious how many of true Nexus lovers would buy HTC Nexus with price of USD $ 700 with iPhone hardware quality ...
I would.
Also if someone have time and basic knowledge of excel and google docs it would be nice to see all problems in one document, shared so other users can contribute.
Thanks
Why should I when I can buy a flawless LG Nexus 4 for 349,-? I really dont think that there are many complauns here. You should have seen the HTC One X forums after launch...! There were many more complains about hardware defects.

I love HTC's build quality. Their phones are solid. I would do some unspeakable things for a new HTC Nexus, but paying $700 is not one of them.

Samsung made 2 Nexus devices already. Myself and many others are glad LG has gotten their shot and that Samsung didn't make the Nexus 4. They build great phones and have always had great hardware(Their IPS screens have always shat on Samsungs OLED imo).
iPhone alternative? Just because Touchwiz looks horrible and a lot like how iPhone looks doesnt make it an "alternative". Despite how ugly Touchwiz is it's still light years ahead of iOS....
Alot of people would probably sell their first born child for a Nexus Note..I'm sure many that already have a Note would love the extra functionality along with raw Android. I'm somewhat surprised it hasn't happened yet.

Meh, my Nexus One died with the infamous power-button-ribbon-breaks issue that many of them had. Every manufacturer seems to have some flaw.
I did like the "feel" of the Nexus One better then the Galaxy Nexus, but I also like the feel of my Nexus 4.
I may be in the majority, but I actually with I could get a 4" high-ppi nexus phone...these are getting to big to use in one hand comfortably.
How easy it is to use a larger screen device can also be attributed to the user interface design. If all/some control are placed within easy reach when holding with one hand then I don't see the problem with single handed use of a large device.
Now if only they did that with the UI design. I've got big hands and it's a stretch for me to thumb the top left of the screen with one hand...can't imagine folks with smaller hands.

Dearth of Accessories is Maddening

Am I the only one frustrated with Google's incompetence with flagship product launches, like the N4. How do you launch a flagship product with only one accessory (the bumper), which ends up being out of stock longer than not?
It's also been months since the N4 was released, and yet the accessory choices are still majorly lacking.
They really need to take a page out of Apple's launch strategy.

@OP: You are aware that it isn't only LG/Google who is supposed to supply the accessories right? What about the other major accessories companies such as Case-Mate, Otterbox? They have to step it up too.
thanks, i kept checking b&h photo. gonna order one now lol

thanks captain... but it's far from on sale, the date keeps getting pushed back and should be on sale tomorrow. but again, how long has the nexus7 been out for? it's just an example. official products are great, but nothing to get worked up about for not being available.

It's still out there regardless. Doesn't matter on it's availability, if it's out there, it's out there.
I agree. I'm referring to accessories in general, not just first-party ones.
At launch or very soon after the launch of a new Apple product, accessory choices are abundant.
And why should I get over it? The Nexus 7 should also have more options, especially due to its success. Why should you have to scour the internet searching for ONE accessory in existence, instead of having *many* available at a local store?
I really envy this about Apple products. They get all the quality and choice in accessories.

Perhaps that is due to there being only 1 choice in phone if you want iOS. There are about a million different android phones out. It's an easy decision for an accessory company as to which one to spend money to develop.

If the nexus 4 were to have a launch accross the world/carriers like the iPhone and market it just as big... accessories will be plenty. Google is still building the Nexus brand. This might not happen for the N4 but future nexus devices will surely have more attention, accessories, and support.
Also, you have to consider that there werent enough N4 to go around to consumers who watch the Play Store like hawks, let alone companies who have other phone accessories to worry about.
The OP's ignorance is astounding.

This is true. See the Galaxy S3. Accessories galore.

third party companies aren't going to invest money into accessories for a phone that many people do not own. I don't even think there's a million units of Nexus 4s sold yet. It sucks but that's just kind of how it is.
Did u buy the phone for the accessories or did u buy it for the phone? If u bought it for accessories, then u should've bought something else..

I wasn't aware of this....

Apparently, the Nexus 6 was a flop
It's all just an illusion

Wow, I just love how these sites state all of this as fact, as if somehow, just saying it will make it so. Lol'd hard I did.
I think I just had a mild stroke trying to read that "article."
`Journalistical` garbage I`am actualy a bit glad its not as cheap as the N5, lesser nooby people on this forum to ask the most basic and stupid questions too imo.
SWEET. A 4k display.
Its vcpost guys come on
My brain hurts from reading that article
Of course they don't provide sources for Nexus 5 2015. I am eagerly waiting to see what the nexus is going to be called and looking for the answer is the Nexus named after generation or size? Let this not be a fruitless debate on this subject of name as it relates to size vs generation
"There wasn't much improvement with the camera feature either. It was just the same as the old nexus 5."
Erm No just no.

If i could thank you again I would. That was quite possibly the most... just damn. I give up. I'm curious as to what his tech journalism qualifications are.

And the bugs.... It's the nexus 6 fault for all the LP bugs
Well, IF their *speculation* on a 2015 Nexus 5 turns out to be for real... would line up nicely with an SD820. The 6 is a bit beastlie.
This might be the worst article I've ever read
So, I guess I'm just imagining that the 5.1 update is on my phone. And that it showed up the day I bought it.

Ya, why was it sold out for forever and a half. If its a flop its due to lack of supply.

You don't believe that this wasn't PLANNED, do you? They know exactly what the demand will be, they can supply plenty to satisfy the demand. The "shortage" was entirely a marketing trick to make demand LOOK bigger than it really was. Oldest trick in the book.
If you want more proof of this, just consider for a moment that these are ONLINE ORDERS. What that means, is that they don't actually need to have a physical stock of the devices in order to be able to place an order. They just need to know the manufacturing capacity of the factory making them in order to be able to give the customer a reasonable estimate on shipping date.
Don't matter.. I love my N6?
I thought I've read that next nexus device will be made by LG
