so i have had a good search around the forum for the past hour and cant find it.i found things that are close but to me didnt seem correct and didnt want to make a load of hassle for myself doing things wrong so thought i would ask as the sensible thing to do.
i have a note 4 with build id n910fxxu1boc5 lollipop 5.0.1
am looking for a root for this ,it is a uk model if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.many thanks in advance
http://download.chainfire.eu/568/CF-Root1/CF-Auto-Root-trlte-trltexx-smn910f.zip?retrieve_file=1 Download this file. Then, unzip this file to anywhere, it could be the desktop, or anywhere else.
Then, open Odin, click PDA then select the tar file in the folder.
Then, on your phone, turn off your phone first, then hold Volume Down + Home key + Power button together. After the screen turns on, press Volume Up, then plug your phone to your PC with a USB cable. Then, on your PC in Odin, press Start.
After finished you can unplug the USB cable then if your phone is broken, they'll not repair for you because you void your warranty after rooting. Download "Triangle Away" from the Play Store (It's not free, but if your network offers network billing, you can buy apps easily) to remove the warranty void that happened after rooting.
This method will definitely trip knox and your warranty will be voided. As far as I know It is not possible to restore 0x0 with triangle way. The only option without tripping knox is kingroot but even that is just a temporary root which will disappear after reboot. Its a one-click-app but it is not working for mine N-910F
This is the thread for chainfire http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/orig-development/sm-n910-cf-auto-root-t2897428
rooted without issue ,warranty isnt an issue im too worried about tbh.thankyou for the links were very helpful
just looking for an xposed module for it 5.0.1

Hi Guys,
I think I messed up my Note 3, SM-N900W8. on 4.3 I thought I would give Kingo Root a try to root my phone. Everything seemed to go well until it got stuck in Odin Mode screen , " Downloading, Do not turn Target Off". Been on this screen now for more than 3 hours.
How do I get out of this screen. Not sure how to proceed from here. I hope I did not mess up my phone.
Info on screen: Current Binary- Samsung Official
System Status- Custom
Reactivation Lock- OFF
Knox Kernel Lock- 0x0
Knox Warranty Void- 0x0
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Man!!!
You don't need to go into download mode to use kingo. You just need to enable USB debugging and plug the phone into your computer

Either remove battery or press power button for few seconds until it turns off. If you use the latter, might restart back to system.
I have a suggestion though before you try rooting with kingo. Go to general section and find post by polish_pat. It's a guide where you can update to 4.4 and your knox ( unless it's tripped already ) won't trip even after flashing custom recovery/roms and root it.

Hey_Joe and Triavq,
Thank you guys for your response. I so wanted to remove my battery this afternoon already but was skeptical that powering down will damage my phone. After removing battery she booted up fine and as it turns out I have successfully rooted my phone. I went ahead and used Root Checker and it says successfully rooted. I don't know why it sat on that screen for so many hours.
I'm just very happy that my phone is still operational. Having a successful root is just an added bonus.
I have so much to learn with regards to rooting etc. It is really information over load.
Thank you once again!!!
Cheers!!!
Glad it worked out for you, enjoy☺

I have the same problem and I want to ask the only thing you did was to take out the battery ?Nothing else because I am terrified that I am going to loose everything
Removing the battery may be the only option. If you leave it in download mode, the battery may eventually lose power and the phone will turn off. If you have data on your phone and it will not boot, you may be able to recover the data by flashing TWRP, mounting the data partition in TWRP, and copying the files over to a computer via USB.
Same problem guys. IT said root successful then phone shut off and continued to restart until I took the battery out, then I pushed volumn down power and home button and instead of taking me to the recovery screen it took to the downloading custom os screen. Said downloading all night long. Took the battery out tried turning it on it continues to restart =[[[[ any suggestions on what I can do? I cannot unroot as I cannot access my phone via phone or usb cable bc the phone will not turn on
I pushed volumn down power and home button and instead of taking me to the recovery screen it took to the downloading custom os screen.
>>> Yes that what you have done entered download mode ..
Vol down is Download mode Vol Up is Recovery
Said downloading all night long.
>>>Yes until you flash a new firmware via Odin .
Read the instructions .
Suggest recovery mode and factory reset .
You have to put the oficial ROM in your phone,
Because if y don't do that, your phone will continue in infinite loop...

Worked with an old S3 mini.
It was stuck to 99%. Not bricked but nor rooted too....I'l try the good old way, adb and bootloader unlock.
Hi,
today i soft bricked my Note 3 because i tried to install CWM Recovery with Reactivation Lock on.
Now it shows a yellow triangle and says "Custom binary blocked by Reactivation Lock" and under that: "Secure Fail: Recovery"
I read that i can go back flashing the original stock firmware but i dont have any idea what my product code/csc is.
On the package it says ART code: SM-N9005ZWENEE
The Booklets in the package are printed in Swedish/Finish
Is there any help or do i have to send it back to Samsung?
Thanks in advance

No better way on Earth to welcome you on XDA than a soft brick.
Long story short:
0. I hope you've learned your lesson. READ, READ, THEN WHEN YOU'RE SURE THAT YOU'LL MANAGE, READ SOME MORE.
1. You need your cable and a PC, on the PC you need the latest Samsung USB drivers. You can obtain them most easily by downloading Samsung Kies, it will install the drivers for you.
2. Download, for example, this: https://mega.co.nz/#!Ld03nbgB!N5xbTBnOKrwKmsalRrmLdBY-RF8-01YbNk2QpQEcj1k + Odin (for example, from here http://www74.zippyshare.com/v/18196321/file.html )
3. Unzip the file somewhere easily accessible.
4. Turn the phone off and put it in download mode (hold simultaneously Vol Down + Home Button + Power button), until you see that big yellow triangle and some Samsung nonsense about custom OS harming your phone. Press Vol Up to confirm you want to do it.
5. Unzip Odin somewhere, then start Odin 3.07.
6. Plug the phone to the PC with the cable.
7. Odin should put out a message "Added !!"
8. Click on AP and find the .tar.md5 file you extracted in step 3, and click Open.
9. Odin will process the file and when it puts out the message "Leave CS..." see if only F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot are checked. NOTHING else. And THEN click Start.
10. After the operation finishes and your phone reboots, perform a Factory reset.
11. Go on with rooting and CWM, but check the Reactivation lock.
Good luck.

Support the devs that make unbricking, flashing, etc. possible.
And have fun with the Nope 3, the ugliest phone on Earth, but still I wouldn't change it for anything but (probably) a Note 4 with Exynos 5433.
UPDATED(Guide)(Root & Recovery)Galaxy Note Edge SM-N915T Simple Imperfect CF AutoRoo
FIRST AND FOREMOST THIS IS NOT MY WORK, MY DOING OR MY DISCOVERY. I'm simply posting how to achieve root using Chain fires Auto Root Method for the Galaxy Note Edge Korean Variant and TWRP. This is by no means a clean polished Root Method but it works well. I figure from here someone can take it further and clean it up for our specific version eliminating the Odin fail and need to flash SU twice to get it stuck. So anyhow, DON'T HOLD ME RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, HOWEVER SMALL THAT RISK MAY BE.
So first download the 4 files.
Samsung USB Drivers https://www.dropbox.com/s/lhijrt02e9tuqo2/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.45.0.exe
Chainfire Auto Root for SM-N915T https://www.dropbox.com/s/ubey6yxyqt0sizx/CF-Auto-Root-tbltetmo-tbltetmo-smn915t.zip
Super SU update v 2.16 https://www.dropbox.com/s/h4ce1grybbfvh12/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.16.zip
TWRP for the note 4 https://www.dropbox.com/s/jfq5pbpaya2w6f1/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.1-trltetmo.img.tar
Unzip Chainfires Auto Root Package making sure that the Autoroot file ends in tar.md5 If it does not end in this then you additionally unzipped the main file as well.
Install samsung UsB drivers and plug in your phone allowing the proper drivers to get setup. Once this is done turn off your phone and open Odin which is included in the auto root package that you just unzipped.
Put your phone into Download mode and plug it into the computer. Make sure nothing is checked except AUTO REVOOT and RESET TIME. Nothing else should be checked. Next click on PDA and locate the tar.md5 file you unzipped from Chainfires package. Press START and wait for it to fail. Once it fails unplug your phone and pop out the battery and put it back in. Turn the phone back on amd it will automatically load back to download mode this time showing a screen saying there was a problem and you need to recover in keys. Plug the ohone back into the computer with Odin open. Press RESET in Odin at the bottom. Again make sure only Auto Reboot and Reset time are ticked. Click PDA and locate the openrecovery TWRP img file previously download. Press START. As soon as you click start get ready to hold the volume up home and power buttons which you will do the second the phone restarts, this will boot you straight intonTWRP.
Once you boot into TWRP click install>SuperSU2.16 then slide to flash the file. Once done go back to home and reboot system. You Now have ROOT!.
However, Root will most likely not stick on reboot so once your phobe boots up, power it down and boot back into recovery by holding volume up home and power then once more install SuperSU 2.16. Reboot system and open Super Su. Allow super Su to disable Knox and if necessary install updated binaries. COMPLETE. Now enjoy root.
I used this method to root 3 edge phones now without any problems what so ever. If you have any questions i will try snd answer them although im sure others will as well.
worked on my n915p... just had to get the chainfire n915p version, THANKS!

So stupid me decided to try rooting my phone with about 7 months ago when my phone was at 5.0. The flash said success in odin but when i restarted I have gotten the most nightmarish bootloop i've ever encountered.
when I go into recovery I get lrx21t.g870aucu1b0c5 as the top version I can get into recovery mode.
I've been working on this phone for the past 10 hours and I'm hitting a dead end, but I need some ideas. I can't find any firmware for 5.1.1 that would successfully install through the recovery mode. The one on Sammobile is 4.4, the bootloader is locked so I can't downgrade my Android version
The phone originally got messed up when I followed this guide.
1. Take the NG3 OTA update.
2. Download and install Towelroot-v3.apk(this version does not require internet access).
3. Place your phone into "Download Mode" (press and hold the Home, Volume Down, and Power keys until the phone powers on and displays warning screen, then press Volume Up key) and flash the G870A_NE4_Stock_Kernel using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
4. Open the Towelroot app from your app drawer and press "Make it Rain" to root your device.
5. Power off then boot into "Download Mode" again and flash the G870A_NG3_Stock_Kernel also in Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
6. Download SuperSu to manage root access. Done!
At the time I did not realize that the update made rooting my phone not possible right now.
Please help me I feel so dumb for making such a huge oversight to even check if my current firmware was rootable. I just assumed it was. I promise to follow instruction very carefully and am willing to try anything to get this working again.
Thanks
I've tried pretty much everything. So I'm not hopeful, but if someone can give me the right solution I will get you whatever you want on steam up to $55

Nevermind, this guide fixed my issue.
I have a VZW S5 running 4.4.1, rooted, with TWRP (don't remember which version, possibly 2.6.1). I wanted to do a full backup straight to an OTG USB drive, and it seemed like I needed an updated version of TWRP to be able to mount the OTG drive. So I installed the TWRP app and tried to flash the latest version (I believe it was twrp-3.2.1-0-klte.img, but I can confirm when I get home). After I selected the file and accepted, I rebooted to recovery from the TWRP app. And I got a screen that says:
RECOVERY BOOTING
SYS REV CHECK FAIL: NO VERSION
SECURE: SECURE VERSION FAILURE (recovery.img)
I get that screen if I power off and back on, or if I hold vol up and home when powering up. Either way, the phone then goes to a second screen with a large yellow triangle on it, and SECURE FAIL: RECOVERY in the upper left. Under the triangle it says System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest Verizon Wireless store for help.
If I power on while holding vol down and home, I get
WARNING!
A custom OS can cause critical problems in phone and installed applications...
Vol. up CONTINUE
Vol. down CANCEL
Hitting vol. down restarts as above. Vol up gets me to a screen that says:
Odin mode
Product name SM-G900V
Current Binary Samsung official
System status Official
Reactivate Lock (KK) off
Qualcom Secureboot: Enable (CSB)
AP SWREV: S1, T1, R1, A1, P1
UDC Start
Downloading
I'm hoping that this means that I haven't completely killed my phone. What I would like to do is get it working again and rooted. All of my apps/data have been backed up with TiBu, so I figure restoring data should be easy once I'm back up. Ideally I would like to get the phone running something higher than Kit Kat (which was my original goal in all this, as a few apps I use no longer support KK.
Thanks in advance!

The screen you described is download mode
You enter it by holding Vol down home button power button
Download the latest firmware for your device from sammobile.com and then flash it via odin whilst your phone is in download mode & connected to the PC via USB by putting the firmware in the AP section of odin
I thought so, but it just looked different than i remember it. Although last time I entered that was a few years back.
Is there a specific firmware that I should choose so I can re-establish root?
Also, is there any way to access data on the phone that I didn't have a chance to back up yet?
Try to flash this via Odin first and see if the phone boots:
link removed
Unzip it first, of course.
Use AP slot in Odin.
Actually i was about to post that after trying unsuccessfully to flash all sorts of TWRP versions, I finally decided I have no choice and have to flash the firmware. I chose the 4.4.2 NCG, because it's what I thought I was running before. After flashing and rebooting, my lock screen wallpaper was the same as I had left it. Cautiously optimistic I swiped the screen, and lo and behold, everything was intact! Except root, which i easily regained with towelroot. Only issue is I do not have TWRP any more. What's the best way to regain that?

That was APA1 firmware only, without system partition.
Forget it if flashing ANCG gave you the necessary result.
You cannot directly flash TWRP at the moment because of the locked bootloader.
If you really need root, it would be wise to install Memory Brickbug Test from the Market and determine the CID of your phone.
It will help to plan the future actions.
BTW, there's a nice G900V section on the forum.
So I have root again from towelroot. I don't remember how I originally did it, but I previously had TWRP, but never an unlocked bootloader. Does that make sense?

It's impossible on SM-G900V.
Most likely you had SafeStrap Recovery, they look similar.
But SafeStrap Recovery is a part of the system partition, not a real recovery as TWRP.
Unlocked bootloader on SM-G900V looks like on the screenshot (MODE: Developer)
So I meant to post here but you beat me to it. On my drive home the other day it hit me that I had safestrap. Because once you boot to recovery it looks like TWRP, and it's been so long since first installing it, I simply forgot.
Anyway, at this point I regained root with towelroot, but was having difficulty installing safestrap, until I realized that I hadn't installed busybox or supersu. Finally got thos going, and after a couple of hours of multiple slowdowns, freezes, and crashes, I finally got everything back. So now I'm rooted and safestrap is back.
Questions:
Prior to this whole mess I had backed up the recovery image from safestrap. Is there any reason to restore that if everything seems to be working?
Also, I believe that TWRP can mount an OTG USB. Can this be done with safestrap?
Thanks

I don't see any reason to repair a working thing.
Don't remember exactly, but seems it worked, for some version at least.
Again: install eMMC Brickbug Check from the market and see the CID of your phone.
It can be 11 or 15.
If it is 15 then you'll be able to unlock bootloader and flash TWRP.
It is 15.
I think I'd like to get up to lollipop just for some app compatibility issues. I've seen a few different approaches. Any way to do this without wiping? or is that just wishful thinking? Besides the ability to flash ROMs (not a major interest for me, as with bloatware disabled or removed I kind of like Touchwiz), and install TWRP (again, not sure I need it if I can use safestrap for recovery), should i still look to unlock the bootloader? Better to do that now or after upgrade?
Thanks
