NOTE 4 Heating and connectivity issues - any advice ? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all
Since two days ago I have an enormous problem with the Note 4 (SM-N910C, 5.0.1, baseband N910CXXU1BOC3, KERNEL 3.10.9-4456638)
1. it started to lose mobile data connectivity. Jumping to 4G to no data and back. As today, it stopped to do this (after the hard reset)
2. phone is constantly at 50 C temperature. and getting hotter if I use it for calling or internet . Because of this the battery is discharging at a very high rate ~10% every 1/2 hour without using the phone. I am using 2 batteries with the same result (so is not a battery issue)
3. When making regular calls, using mobile network (NOT VoIP, WhatsApp, etc.) I have to
- call the number like 3 - 4 times to get the connection
- I can hear the party I call, but they are telling me they cannot hear anything from me or strange noises.
- connection drops after 10 seconds
I have made a hard reset and changed the SIM card.
There are NO apps installed over stock.
All this started suddenly.
What should I do. Is there are reason this happens. I will take it to Samsung service of course, but I was looking for a second opinion,
Thank you

You Bought Local Variant that's Available in your Country or Import From Other Regions???
Some Time The Other Region Model Does Not Perform Well for Some Carriers Due To the Change in Band Frequencies....
If You Still Not Rooted & Your Knox Counter is 0x0 than You Should Contact with Samsung Service...
If You Tripped Knox than Try To Flash Different Official Firmware ..Obviously If you Import than Firmware Must be for Your Local Region Where You are Now...
There are Also Some Thread Available Which Have Knox 0x0 While To Flash Other Stock Rom...
Hope it will Help You regarding your issue

Dropped calls.

I have a really annoying problem on my SGS2.
The phone ends calls randomly by itself. It is a pain in the ass when I have been on hold for 10min and then I am the next in line and CLICK! I want to throw the phone into the wall when that happens.
Or when I need to call my friend back 7 times during a conversation.
Anyone else have this problem?
i have not had a single dropped call and i use at least an hour per day. here are the three things i would do
1. make sure you have a fairly new 3g sim card (or bull**** 4g depending on which provider you have). i used to have issues with rogers when i had the htc magic and getting a new sim card fixed them.
2. check which apps you have installed on the phone. some apps turn off data for periods of time and you might be having an issue when data comes back online. i have read about different android devices that let data have a priority over voice, so if you are on a call and your device tries to download an email you might drop a call. i would uninstall or freeze any apps which could do this and use the phone for a couple of days to see if the issue stops.
3. if you still have issues i would backup whatever was important and hard reset the phone (deletes all info) and start from scratch. you might have a corrupted file or something
good luck
May be your network sucks. No dropped call issues here.

1. I use the same card as I had on my N900, didn't have this issue, but will check it.
2. I live in Europe where we can Call and surf at the same time, so not a problem.
3. I flashed the phone to KE7 2 weeks ago, and factory reset it too. Gonna try to change the modem kernel when I get the time.
Kirdroid: No, it happens everywhere, and hasn't happened with any other phone before this.
Gonna see if changing the modem kernel can help.

Samsung Focus Battery Drain/Network loss?

I have a Rogers Samsung Focus that is unlocked...
One thing that I noticed is that my battery usually drains significantly in the second half of the day..... (Ex: 1 hour = 8% and I did not touch the phone)
I also noticed that my data connection drops and I need to restart the phone for it to reconnect. Doesn't matter where I am (location) and I use this SIM card in many other phones. Seems to happen every 8-12 hours or so and also seems to cause part of the battery drain.
Any suggestions? I currently have this setup for ADC using the Samsung Tools (with Mango) and have the APN settings "blank".
Thanks for you assistance.
Hey,
I recently did the force update to Mango on my Rogers Samsung Focus - and I have noticed a similar issue. I used to get over 14 hours of battery, regularly receiving/sending emails, texting, etc, but now I'm getting around 10-12 hours if I'm lucky. I'm not doing anything different that I did before - but I also notice that the network will have micro drops - the icon will show "no network" for a moment and then go back to normal....
I've been noticing the micro drops as well, and its only been since the "Samsung update", which includes the newer firmware and radio. I ran the leaked 7720.68 build for quite a while without the issue.
I was somewhat curious if the Rogers ROM had the same issue since the radio and firmware version numbers are different, so its nice to hear that confirmed.
In any case the drop thing only seems to happen when the network is idle, so as long as its not cutting my calls or transfers its not that big of a deal to me. And I love the tap to focus far too much to roll back.
Battery has been mostly consistent, but has been more hungry the last week or so. Probably unrelated in my case though.

MB526 (random) reboots, fix?

Hi, i have problems with random reboots its really annoying.
Some roboots arent random - when i recieve/send sms phone reboots almost everytime or when someone calls me its the same - reboot.
Any fix for this?
Thx
I have Defy+ (MB526), 2.3.6 android, 2.6.32.9-gbdd614e kernel, stock ROM
try wipe or flash other sbf that you can flash
Don't flash anything, if it persists after a wipe, send it back

Someone on this forum reported rebooting issues caused by a slightly shorter than spec battery (actually a few people as I recall). When the phone was moved it often rebooted and the fix was to add a single piece of electrical tape to the end opposite contacts. May be worth a try.
Switch to 2g and mobile data off then see if it reboots.
Might be this-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21237004#post21237004
Ok, thanks for the answers, flashing doesnt work Ive tried it many times..
Ive just tried 2G and electrical tape, hope it will work
A few causes might possibly be the answer.
1) firstly confirmed the rom by playing the overclock settings. Some rom having too low on voltage or frequency setting. Or the rom itself is not stable. Flashing another rom is only way to confimed this.
2) Battery might have factory defect, use battery monitor widget to monitor the voltages/current of the battery consumption. change battery(borrow from friend) to see if the reboot still happen.
3) Check battery connection on the phone. Make sure no loose around it.
4) If all the above still causes the random reboots. you can return it back to the shop to repair the handset.
seems switching to 2G helped, no reboot since switch, thanks
This is the same problem I had with my Defy+
It used to reboot randomly for no reason even when siting on a desk doing nothing
all of a sudden i would hear a notification to say the sd card was loaded informing me it was rebooted.
When it does decide to reboot it can do up to 4 or 5 reboots continuously
I sent it back and got a new one.
The new one does the same thing but very rarely
maybe once every month or 2 months
I have posted about this on the Motorola Forums and There are other people with the exact same problem as us.
One of them mentioned they had to send their phone bak to Motorola and they replaced the main board and will get back to say how it went.
But since then no answer and Motorola changed their forums

mine is not rebooting anymore

Can you confirm if it's 2G or tape?
I purchased Defy+ 20 days ago with exactly same configuration as the one described in the beginning of this thread. Phone reboots at random when I am in the middle of conversation, or while accessing data through mobile network or while present in areas with extremely low single. I tried using a new SIM, checked loose ends (if any) of the battery i.e. stuck a 1 layer of tape on one end, also switched to 2G. The phone continues to reboot especially when I access internet on mobile network, and also booted once while I am in a call.
Unfortunately the customer service in India (any company) would be pathetic so I'm not hopeful in having Motorola fix the problem if I take the piece to their support centers...
Narasimha
Narashima,
I have heard of Defy going crazy when trying to access data in an area where the data signal is weak and goes in and out. Can you confirm you are getting reboots if you turn data OFF? Not sure how your phone is configured, but I mean even cut off 2G.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 4.4.2 Updare and Network Issues with Sprint

My device: Samsung Galaxy S4 with 4.4.2 (Sprint)
My location: 60193
My issue:
1) In February I received the 4.4.2 OTA update for my Samsung Galaxy S4
2) After that and while in 60193 randomly but takes no more than one hour my phone will lose internet (3G and LTE), must restart the device to get the function back for a short period of time before having to restart again.
3) Also randomly but takes no more than one hour my phone will lose signal and will be unable to make a call, must restart the device to get the function back for a short period of time before having to restart again.
4) Additional information on making calls: phone will sometimes show signal and will just say dialing when making a call (indefinitely), when I press end it will freeze the dialing screen but you can still use the phone (just no internet or phone calls). Must restart the device to get the function back for a short period of time before having to restart again.
5) I have performed all trouble shooting options with Tech both in store on the phone.
6) I have hard reset phone.
7) I have exchanged phone.
8) Still experiencing the same issues.
9) When I am far away from 60193 I do not experience issues.
10) Sprint continues to give me a run around.
I can't post a link, but here is a post that details the run around: Go to the Sprint community forums and search "Samsung Galaxy S4 4.4.2 Network Issue" to see the run around I have received...
Can you help me???

They are working on the towers in your area. You will just have to be patient until they are done. Could be over a month. The behavior you are describing is definitely tower related.

The thing is... The whole senerio that I described is only happening to people that have an S4 and updated to the 4.4.2 with Sprint. So it is the area, but it is also connected to the Sprint S4 with the 4.4.2 update (no other phones are impacted). Thoughts?

I agree with cruise350. If you have tried a different phone, it's likely the towers in your area. FWIW, I am having similar troubles: dial a phone number, my dialer hangs; send text messages and they fail; dropped calls, etc, though I don't have to restart my phone. And, I'm on the original MDC stock ROM, 4.2.2, though rooted. I spent at least half an hour on the phone with tech support yesterday. She had me do ##72786# which initiated a fresh hands-free activation, updated my profile and PRL (which didn't change). Then she started looking at the towers in my area of Minneapolis, and said Sprint was working on 3 of them. Hopefully, they'll be fixed sometime in April. The whole metro area is a mess. Sprint has been promising us LTE for months, but when driving around, a lot of us experience dropped calls, and failed calls. Sometimes you can't even get 3G, though you wouldn't realize it unless you're running an app that will tell you what your signal is. I use Signal Check lite, Advanced Signal, Network Signal Info, and Sensorly, if you're interested. Sometimes I'll actually get a 4G signal. I consider that a blessing. I mostly turn on Wifi when home, otherwise I might not have any data at all. I'm staying with Sprint only because of unlimited data. I'm not a huge user of data. I don't stream stuff very often. But even so, I've used close to a GB of data in 3 weeks. I'd hate to be with a carrier that has a 2GB limit or that slows you to 1X is you go over a their "limit."

Serious connection problems with my note 4 ...Desperation.

I recently bought a second hand Note 4 in absolutely immaculate condition and at first it worked really well.
then ......
I started being told by friends that i wasnt answering my phone i said that was strange as i hadnt been away from it so i rang the phone myself and got a ringtone on the caller phone but absolutely nothing happened on the Note 4 (no vibration / ringtone ) also no data although it showed full signal bars for both. A reboot made it work again but this now keeps happening and the only way i become aware that it has happened is if i try to access a website on data when it will say connection took too long. this happens maybe 15 to 20 times per day at random.
Occasionally for variation it will show no signal or network and when i go to search it says insert sim card to access network services.... again a reboot sorts it temporarily.
so far i have tried
1. new / different sims
2. running in safe mode (all 3rd party apps disabled)
3. sponge on top of sim holder applying pressure)
4. clearing partition cache
5. Full factory reset
6. flash new rom
7. button press (home for 2 secs then start for 15)
and probably loads of other things i cant remember so now im DESPERATE !! has anyone any idea what this could be its a UK spec 910N phone IMEI is valid i have no warranty HELP me please
Are you sure you have the model number correct? Haven't heard of a Note 4 910N variant before, and the only place I can find it online is on foreign (non-UK) websites such as http://mg.olx.com.br/regiao-de-uber...lares/samsung-galaxy-note-4-sm-910n-128225596
Apart from that, a Samsung 910N comes up as a monitor! (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-SM-910N-TFT-Monitor/dp/B0002TNVGO)
Just FYI, I'm using a N910C in the UK on EE with no problems.
My mistake it is an SM-N910F-32GB
Are you having issues with bluetooth or wifi as well? My note 4 N910W8 has issues with keeping a stable bluetooth, wifi or LTE connection, and occasionally drops calls.
The batery
Try with other batery, i know, that is crazy but, in my note 4,it fix network conection problem. (no network, no sim, no registered on network) my problem start after use a motorola turbo charger, it damage my batery and (and the signal) but just changing batery the network was fixed. Sorry for bad english
---------- Post added at 02:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:36 PM ----------
I commented that I was the same . wanting to find network said without sim . Sometimes if I showed sign, but with only emergency warning . Change my battery and everything is perfect but I can not understand that relationship can have . Hopefully I can help my advice
