With past experiences from my older phones (X10 Mini Pro and Xperia SP) I've noticed that the camera after 8-9 months is getting blurry
and there are scratches all over the lens...
I've read on the internet that this may be caused from some "coating" that sony adds and you need to remove it in-order to be clear again.
I am not entirely sure what this is and what are the cons after removing the "coating".
To remove the coating it is really easy...
You will need some toothpaste(I've read that alcohol spray works too but I only tested toothpaste), Microfiber cloth, cotton swab
Apply some toothpaste on the camera lens
Rub the toothpaste with the cotton swab in a clockwise motion (For arround 5-10 minutes)
Remove the toothpaste using microfiber cloth with the help of some water
You'll see a big difference after removing the coating and all the scratches should be gone.

Be cautioned, though. Removing the coating will affect your night shots. Pictures with lights (car headlights, streetlamps) will noticably be worse since the coating is to cut the glares that came in the lens.

Last time i did same to my xperia sp now i don't have sp because of this method.
Oh perfect! I had such an suspicion that the lens just cant be from glass... So it's the same as with the screen - perfect glass and some fu****g form of plastic cloating over it, very well Sony. Really thanks for the guide , sometimes I couldn't even focus and it was only getting worse

My First try to remove the purplish film on the lens cover Glass was not so good... Because I've tried it with toothpaste and toiletpaper... The purplish film was massively scratched and the Fotos was blurry as hell ?
Than I took a microfiber cloth and a little bit of toothpaste and rubbed the Glas about 2 minutes in clockwise direction. After cleaning it and checking if it worked I've noticed a big clear spot in the middle of the glass ? so I've repeated the process about 1 minute with concentration of the outside of the glass. And now no more purple on the glass and I have sharper Fotos than before!

My camera has some scratches ( I don't remember if they were there before doing all this procedure)
but the camera has the same result in quality

Yeaahh Its Really working now ..Ihv tried on my Xperia Z1..before that i had blurry glass (Smudges on lens glass which were causing lesser light to pass to the lense) ..initially i thought that i wont gonna work but yup after a small charcoal colgate on lens,a fine 2 min scrubbing with cotton buds which was of good quality and finally small water across it ,and it made clear like neva before its amazing and fallen for my old xperia Z1 again. guys do try it confidently and smoothly it will definitely work Thank You ....

Hey XDA,
i have got sort of grinding marks on the left Side of the Display.
It is really annoying if light shines into the Display.
Is there a Trick to get them out, or can you tell me some good stuff to polish that out?
These are mostly pretty soft "scratch-areas", not really deep.

I don't really see a scratch there.
just gently wipe it off with a folded cotton cloth. if you need just pour 2 or 3 drops of water on the cloth first.
make sure you don't drop water directly on your phone.

Image Quality sucks, yeah.
Its a pattern of really fine scratches, Water does not help with that.

oh okay, I thought that the area is just a lil smudgy and water would help that.
but for scratches i am afraid you will have to live with. Try putting on a matte screen protector the thickness of the protector
prevents day to day scratches. I use the thin ones and trust me if there are keys in your pocket your screen will get scratched!
Hi, ive been getting a lot of questions from people whether or not the logo at the back is baked in the anti shatter film.
I just wanted to share that I removed mine(back) and the logos sony, xperia, g lens and nfc icon is inside the glass so no need to worry.. the film is really dust magnet so better remove it. downside is that the glass doesnt feel smooth and it is still the same fingerprint magnet as the film. only difference is it doesnt accumulate dust anymore except the ones that come from your hand.
you can buy glass cleaners with oleophobic property to solve this problem.
the only thing im wondering now is whether or not the color on the frame will come off in time. I hope its not paint and the metal is purple itself as i got the purple one. the same reason why Im hesitant to wash it.. especially the silver on the sides Im not sure if it will come off with frequent washing.
as for the front, do not remove it as the sony logo is baked on the film. unless you dont intend to keep the logo. anyway, thats it! I also have couple of questions I hope you guys can help me with.. these are general issues of phone usage. here is the link.

I can help you to answer that metal question: As mine has fallen to the ground several times and my metal frame got damaged a bit, I can see that the metal seems to be all purple. No use of paint.

Since I bought my M8, I had noticed a steady decline in picture quality. I took a close look at the plastic lens cover and noticed an iridescent sheen and numerous scratches. My old G2 had the same kind of issue, and I remembered being able to fix it with toothpaste.
What a difference.
All I used was some Arm & Hammer baking soda toothpaste, a nice circular rubbing motion with my finger, and a soft microfiber towel to clean everything up.
Here are some before and after pictures, taken with identical settings in manual shooting mode (no editing, of course) -
So as you can see, it's a pretty huge difference. I'm not sure what kind of coating they put on the lens, but it horrifically degrades photo quality over time. I've had a case over the phone the whole time I've owned it, and the only glass/plastic that's scratched has been this back lens cover.
I saw another thread that suggested removing the lens - I don't think that's necessary. I'm back to stock-looking photos with just a little bit of polishing. Time will tell if it remains this way, though. If the coating was some sort of anti-scratch layer, it may get worse.

There is a very informative thread that explains the issue and had to correct it here in the forum.
But, in a nutshell, the M8 has a UV coating that starts to cloud up and is easily scratched due to heat build up in the phone.
This is ONLY a coating and can be remove... The process is simple as stated in the original posters message.
I used q-tips and alcohol... That worked for me... But I have also seen threads that have gone the toothpaste route.
After you remove the coating the lens will look like new.... I have cut up an old un-used screen protector and applied it to the lens as a protective measure.

Yes, all I did was apply a very small amount of toothpaste (plain, white toothpaste - like Colgate or Arm & Hammer - no fancy gels or anything) directly to the lens, and rub with my fingertip in tiny circles. It took a few minutes, but the coating was able to be removed completely. I was careful to use a damp cloth to clean the toothpaste off rather than just throwing some water on it, just in case all the rubbing loosened a seal on the cover or something.

Seems that case wont help you in the scratchless issue, camera glass looks way to exposed.
I use a rude case and have adapted my own scratch shield. Its made of a plastic screen cover just trimmed to fit on the camera, have a look.

Sounds like a scratch on the lense would be much less intrusive than taping plastic in front of it...

I am using this case, and I have to say that it doesn't protect camera completely, because i purchased this on day 1, still i got 3-4 scratch marks on my camera glass, but it does protect rather than naked phone.

I dont know how, but My note 10+ got a tiny scratch near the center camera, even though that I put an aluminum protective ring to exactly avoid this, after this scratch happened, I am afraid it will happen again, but also I think that the quality of the pictures may be impacted, any one has tried them?
Leave it. Protective film can make photos worse. For me it's better to fix little scratches in PS than have problems with light, colors etc.

Yes, when smudged by fingerprints or such, but, due to the tiny light scratch I mentioned, no
I don't have anything other than a wrap on my camera. There's nothing on the lense directly above the camera sensor, but it keeps things from touching it as easily/often . Most wraps include a piece for the camera as well as the phone, I've put wraps on my last few phones, and haven't had an issue with any of the cameras. Slickwraps and Dbrand both have quality wraps. I have Slickwraps on my Note 8 and 10+. After 2+ years of being on my Note 8, the camera wrap came off a month ago only because it was peeled off in one of my bags while traveling.

I applied it pretty easily, though I needed to make some postapplying adjustments. I don't see any impact upon pictures, during the day or taken at night with the LED on.
There is no way you can remove scratches from the camera glass as any attempt to polish it will have negative impact upon camera performance.

Oh my...
Not needed and it will degrade the image (refraction is one way). Adding uncoated optics is a big no-no especially.
It's not glass*, it a polycarbonate I believe and not the camera lense; it's a protective cover for the camera assembly below it.
The rear cover factory protector is cheap and easy to replace after you remove the rear cover.
A Zizo Bolt case gives good raised guards to protect it.
Keep your fingers off it and clean with a microfiber cloth as needed. Use a blower bulb first to clear loose sand if present.
I live in the desert, very windy with lots of sand and grit. After over a year and a half my 10+'s rear cam factory protector has no mars or scratches.
*you can polish mars and very slight scratches out of glass optics with a dry finger or palm.
Takes about 30 minutes or more. Any type of glass polishing more aggressive than this would likely deform it to the point of noticeably altering its optical qualities.
