Trying to Root (headache) - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok,
I'll start with my phone. Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910P. Android 5.0.1
+If you need more info let me know.
My issues. Trying to cf-root. Odin picks up phone, but errors out. I assume this is because Reactivation Lock is stuck on. I cannot turn it off no matter what I try. I tried to do the deletion of my samsung account, hard reset, and still nothing. I'll try it again.
from my understanding I download the .tar file for my phone with TWRP recovery. Download a good SU prog. And fire up the tar in Odin, reboot to recovery, install the SU file and I should be good to go.
Just need to turn reactivation off. I think?

Reactivation? I think you mean Repartition ? Repartition must always be unchecked unless you want to flash a PIT file.
Repartition is uncheked by default so leave it that way !!

Nope, reactivation. The Samsung password deal when you reset.

yes, u must turn OFF 'reactivation lock'. Otherwise, it will say error & nothing happens, no root. USB degugging ON in developer settings and OFF for Reactivation lock. Hope this helps

This is the way to root...
Do the 2 things i mentioned above.
Download the correct file for ur phone model. CFAuto root & a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM. Double check u got the right files.
Put phone in Odin Download mode.
Open Odin as 'Admin'. (turn off antivirus and Kies3 if it's running in the background).
Plug USB into phone & wait till 'ID:COM' turns blue.
Go to AP, find the Root file and select it
press 'Start'.
If all goes well, phone will re-boot automatically, unplug phone.
Go playstore, get app SuperSU. Open app and "update the binary" the normal way when asked. (not TWRP way).
Also get 'root checker' app, or any similar app thats free. U should be rooted.
After all that, go back to download Odin mode again and repeat steps for flashing custom Recovery.
AP - select recovery file - START.
(if in doubt, google google google, plenty of tips and tutorials online. i like this place : http://news.highonandroid.com/ (and here on XDA)

[Q] Flashing Clockwokmod on S4 I9505 won't work, any idea why not?

Hi,
I've tried several times flashing Clockworkmod 6.0.3.3 and other versions of Clockworkmod for S4 I9505, but after flashing it using Odin 1.85, Odin says ok, and reboot my phone, but after I turn the phone off, and try to start phone into recovery mode using power, volume up and home button at the same time, my phone doesn't find anything to use, so it starts in regular recovery mode (Default as from Samsung).
Anyone have an idea why Clockworkmod won't work on the phone, even when Odin says ok on flashing?
I've made sure that I downloaded the correct file for my phone.
My phone is a euro version, that shouldn't matter?

Download the attached link. You find a folder of s4 root. Odin 1.85 and Cwm file and a rooting file(only if you need root)
An odin 1.85 specialy for gti 9505. Big thanks to chainfire.
Turn your phone in downloadmode. Connect your Phone to your pc. Open odin and select pda and select the file i9505-cwm-recovery -6.0.3.2-4
Start.
After the phone is rebooting, turn your phone off.
Then volume up,home button and powerbutton at the same time. When you see on top a blue text" recovery booting" let go of the 3 buttons and it boots in cwm. This should do the trick.

Thanks for trying to help me out, but still I got no luck with this,
After the flashing, when I try to go into recovery mode I can see that the phone tries to install or update something, but a sec after I get some sort of fail message and I'm back to default recovery mode.
I can't understand what seems to be the problem.
Could it be that my phone might be locked to a carrier?

I first rooted my phone and then i flashed cwm recovery via odin 1.85. All in the file you've downloaded.

for the gti 9505 lte is a little bit diverent at this time.
first flash the cf autorootjflte.... via odin. phone in downloadmode, select pda, select cf autoroot jfte... hit start. phone reboots, you see an red/orange android droid then its rebooting
after that turn off your phone . phone in downloadmode, open odin, select pda, select cwm 6.0.3.2-4, hit start
Your phone is rooted with cwm.
What rubbish!
You DO NOT need to root your phone to install a custom recovery. Are you sure you have i9505??
Download the latest Philz CWM recovery in .tar format and flash this in Odin 1.85.
I've done this on 6 different S4s and NEVER had an issue.
Seems strange that your having problems dude.

This version of CWM work perfect and supports exFat (64GB SD Cards).
You don't need root.
Flash as PDA using Odin PC.

It's this version I'm trying to flash with no luck, and I can't understand why it's not working.
Maybe I have to do a factory reset, or flash a complete new stock ROM?

Do you have a proper USB connection between Odin PC and your phone?
Try another USB cable or/and another USB port ...
Did you remember to kill all KIES processes running in background?
CTRL, ALT, DELETE running processes ...

in some stock firmwares, when you boot the phone, the stock recovery is re-writing over the flashed custom one:
root your phone, and with a root explorer go to system, delete "recovery-from-boot.p" or rename it to "recovery-from-boot.p.bak"
then go to system/etc, delete this file: "install-recovery.sh" or rename it to "install-recovery.sh.bak.
now you can flash your custom recovery.

I'm using an Samsung retail cable from the S2, but I did try with the S4 retail cable aswell, but still no luck. The flashing goes ok in Odin, so I doubt the cable is the problem. And Kies isn't running in the background at all. Even changed USB port just to be sure testing all the options.

Ok, so I might have to root my phone and try this out then.. I was hoping to avoid rooting for now.
And the way to root is done using Odin as described in an earlier post?
Will it be possible to reset the counter later on if I need to go back to stock ROM if the phone should need to sendt to service etc? I know it is possible to reset the counter on S3.

if you want to be sure, flash custom recovery, do not check "auto-reboot" or when it says "pass" unplug and take off the battery, then reinsert it, boot straight to recovery so you should see the custom recovery. but once you reboot the phone the stock recovery will be back .
any way, you can root in any method you want.
why you want to flash custom recovery without rooting??
once you flashed anything unofficial with odin, the counter is triggered.
yes you can reset it with triangle away.

Ok I tried to flash the clockworkmod without checking the auto-reboot and it worked like you said.
The reason I don't want to root the phone is, because I actually don't need it, never had any use of it on other phones.
Ok then I have to root it like you said to make i work properly.

hmmm, so why you need cwm?
EDIT: usually these 2 files (that reflash stock recovery) come with some OTA update. So if you dont want to root, you can flash a stock firmware with odin (those 2 files are not included) in order to flash custom recovery without rooting.
any way, when you flashed custom recovery, your binary counter is triggered. so you need triangle away to reset it for warranty ====> you need root access!

SM-G900F Root Help

hello guys, i have a Samsung galaxy S5 (SM-G900F)
i installed the latest OTA updates, but today i tried to root my device with CF-auto root file, odin did successfully but the phone didn't restart,it keep saying
recovery rooting,
recovery is not standadid enforcing or something like that
set warranty bit : recovery
it keep saying for like 10min but nothing showed up,then i flashed phiztouch recovery file, then the device reboot successfully but after i went to the recovery mode, there is no phiztouch recovery, its the stock recovery
can anyone help me to root the device n to install a phiztouch recovery
CF Auto Root should have worked, I'd try that again
Make sure you use the G900F version
Run ODIN as Admin
Only have F.Reset Time and Auto Reboot ticked in ODIN
Obviously phone in download mode
--
Other alternatives are to flash TWRP with ODIN, then SuperSU from TWRP

Are you using a native PC to flash with ODIN?
Got the Samsung drivers installed?
Mine is the G900F and CF auto root works fine with all firmwares to date, wonder if your bootloader is locked?

Odin 3 V1.85 does everthing correctly, then phone boots correctly, but when I go to recovery, still stock:crying:
Could it be that it has something to do with lollipop 5.0?

Yes I did.
This is what I did step by step:
I have odin 3V1.85 installed on my pc and from there I followed all instructions
I put following file in PDA. philz_touch_6.26.6-klte.tar.md5
After that phone rebooted succesfully. But when I want to enter recovery it gives me a warning sign and it enters stock recovery
Android system recovery <3e>
LRX21T.G900FXXU1BNL9
I have flashed alot of roms with my previous phone but this is new for me.
So again appolize for all the "stupid"questions!
I hope someone knows the solution.
Hmm odd, i had the exact same problem when rooting about 3 days ago, now it works but i can't for the life of me figure out how i managed to get it to work. Ill get back to you.

Ok guys, try this.
1. Download philz kernel that matches your modem number. I think philz_touch_6.26.6-klte.tar.md5 works good.
2. Put it in ODIN on PDA/AP
3. Uncheck "Auto Reboot" and make sure Re-Partition is NOT CHECKED (keep F. Reset time)
4. Flash
5. It will say RESET on Odin and nothing further when it is done so just wait 2-3 minutes when RESET appears to be entirely sure that the procedure is done.
6. Pull out phones battery.
7. Put it back in and now go into Recovery directly (Vol up+home+power)
8. ???
9. Profit
Hopefully this might work, i think i did the same

Anyone
get a different TWRP file, maybe the latest one. Go into Odin Dowload mode, choose 'AP' & the recovery file. press start.
make sure Reactivation Lock is off & USB Debugging is On. Turn Off any antivirus before u begin first, and close Kies3 if its on in the background.

How to Root the SM-P600 P601 & P605 running 5.1.1 Stock Lollipop

Ok so I will be giving you guys a tutorial on how to root the Samsung galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition running the latest version of android 5.1.1 specifically the SM-P600, SM-P601, & P605. I will be using the CF- AutoRoot By Chainfire.
Here are images if you need help
Preparations
Download the CF- AutoRoot File for your device
P600
P601
P605
When the download is complete, you have to extract the zip file
Make sure you have Android Debugging Enabled on your device
Boot into Odin/Bootloader mode by holding Vol Down+Power+Home at the same time, then press Vol up when the triangle appears
Procedure
Open the folder you extracted the autoroot files in, right click on the Odin 3 Application file and run as administrator
Now select the AP button in Odin, and select the autoroot file
Now connect your device to your computer, You should see Added in the log, and the box on top should turn blue
Important Make sure that under options only Auto Reboot, & F. Reset Time is ticked, un check everything else
Now press Start, your device should reboot, and you should see a red android pirate and some commands running
Don't worry if your device reboots a couple of times its normal
You can un-plug you device when it boots, and Odin should say pass, after that exit Odin, and your done!
Go in your apps, and you should see SuperSU, update the binaries if needed, to make sure root was successful, download root checker from the play store, and verify root
Your all done! You have successfully rooted your device!
Troubleshooting
If your device is stuck in a boot loop, hold vol up+Power and scroll down to Reset Data, and confirm, your device will be completely wiped, you can try to root again and see if it is successful
If a factory reset did not work you have to re-flash your firmware via Odin here is a tutorial on how to do it
If you get a message 'Recovery is not Seandroid Enforcing' while booting repeat the procedure, but instead of the CF AutoRoot file select the stock recovery file and flash it. Once your device reboots it should be fine.
If you have any problems please comment below, and i will try to help you through them, and Thanks! Happy Rooting!
After installing CF Root, Superuser.apk is not installed and root access is available to every app without notification. No Superuser app is being installed. If I install 2.52 beta or 2.46 or the play store version, root becomes broken. Can't figure out why. System: DBT P605XXU1EOI5_P605DBTEOJ1_P605XXU1EOI5 and NEE P605XXU1EOI5_P605OXAEOI5_P605XXU1EOI5. Tried with fresh install, of course.

Did that with 2.66 Beta - worked (for) now. Will report back if any further problems occur. Had to perform a data, Dalvik, cache, system wipe, reinstall stock, then CF root. Then it worked out, finally. Just deleting system / caches wasn't enough. Weird.
I still can not find where to download the stock firmware. All those sites either need premium or broken link. Anyone can help? stock firmware for P601. Thanks a lot in advance

Hi Pandur2000, thanks alot. In fact, I'm still figuring out how to use this tools. If its coming from Sammobile, I'm on my 6th attempt to download the firmware. All of them disconnect when I downloaded approx 1.2GB (total 1.4GB). Its frustrating but I have no other choice now :crying::crying::crying::crying:

If you're downloading from Sammobile, my advice is to use a Download Manager. I'm currently using Download Accelerator Plus, which not only allows to Pause/Resume downloads from SamMobile (it will ask you for your login credentials to SamMobile when you start de download), but it will also try to connect to multiple servers to download the files faster. I'm currently downloading the firmware for my Galaxy Note 2014 LTE from their servers at 1,5MB/s after having needed to reboot my PC
Hope it helps
P.S. I'm assuming you're using Windows, but if you're using another OS google for download managers for your OS and I'm certain you'll find something that'll help you

First time didn't let the pass message appear on Odin before disconnecting the cable (my bad - been doing this for so long that sometimes overlook some steps xD) and the SuperSU app wasn't installed.
After factory resetting the device and redoing the process a second time (paying attention to what was doing xD) it worked like a charm!
Thanks man ;D
I rooted my SM-P605 with latest CF-AutoRoot 5.1.1 but I can see something wrong.
SuperSu app is correctly installed and working (I'm using Seeder and tried Xposed) but:
- cannot give root permission to Clean Master (every time I try it fails)
- each time I reboot TWRP it asks me to install SuperSu.

No luck
Note 2014 5.1.1 vzw cant seem to get this to work 8(
Thanks, worked perfectly for me using a P605.

It works (I've got a P605) but while I had been rooting it stuck on the Samsung logo so I had to download and install the stock firmware again and repeat the process of granting administrator rights.
Open up su and tells me it cannot find su binary, uninstalled it from play store and open again and same issie.
I have a refurbished LTE version from Tmobile. Will this work with my model P607t? I have read that the P605 model is almost the same as the P607T. Also heard root breaks S Pen functionality.

I messed up - No OS installed! (TWRP)

Hi all,
I had rooted my note 4 and have TWRP installed a while ago. Been using my phone for ages without installing custom ROMS, but recently it's been restarting every once in a while.
So I went into recovery mode and factory data reset my device to start fresh (of course backing up all my data with Tit Backup beforehand).
But me being the cleverclogs went into Wipe -> Advanced Wipe and selected all the boxes thinking it will do a proper cleanout (Dalvik/ART Cache, System, Data, Internal Storage, Cache, Micro SDCard). But when I try to reboot it there's a msg saying "No OS installed! Are you sure you wish to power off?". When restarting the phone it just goes back to TWRP!
It's on it's last legs already but still it's my main phone. How can I install the stock ROM or I might even try custom ROMS (any recommendations?). I haven't installed a custom ROM since the S3 days so I'm a complete noob agian.
Thanks for your help.
Copy a ROM on your MicroSD using a card reader and insert it on the phone or restore using Kies.

Is there any links to Note 4 latest stock ROM (Marshmallow I believe).

You can try a Note 7 port, you can choose Racerom or Enhanced rom (if you have N910F model, for others models i don't know)...personally i have racerom v9 installed.
You just need to copy it to your internal memory flasht it, reboot to download mode and install the latest bootloader and modem with Odin, reboot and it's done....you need to search it for BL and modem here on XDA, it's not difficult.
If you choose to install a stock rom, remember you'll loose TWRP and root, everything it's replaced. Yo need to use Odin too.
Nothing to worry about bro. This forum will get your phone all set up and working.
At this point you have two choices
1. Flash stock samsung firmware (download the ***correct one*** according to you phone's model no from https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/. Flash it using Odin. Look up the procedure to flash firmware on note 4 using Odin. Its pretty straightforward. (Make sure you do NOT select the PIT section. Dont ask what it is, just remember its the most risky section and could permanently brick your phone... It is marked properly in the Odin tool so the chances of mistakes are very low)
Note that after flashing a custom ROM you will lose your Root and TWRP. (You can get both back later anyways.)
2. Flash a custom rom using your existing TWRP recovery. If you have samsung note 4 android drivers installed on your pc, then as soon as you boot into TWRP, you can just connect the phone to the PC via a cable and access its internal storage from there. Download one of the countless good samsung note 4 roms (again, check your phone model before you download) from this forum. Copy it to internal storage. If needed, download OpenGApps package and copy it to the internal storage as well. Then using TWRP, *install* the Rom package. Remember, the Rom takes 7-10 minutes to boot up after install so dont worry. Also you phone might heat up in this while. If it gets too hot, then maybe something is wrong... remove the battery and let it cool down. Then figure out if you have the right rom or not. Else download another Rom.
Once you have access to the storage, you could choose to install any of the custom ROMS available
Remember, there are many variants of the note 4 sold across different geographical locations. Before you download any firmware/rom, be sure to check if it matches the phone you have. Read through the Rom threads carefully. if needed, ask questions.
You'll be up and running very soon.
All the best!

Sorry to answer your question with a question but why if you have twrp installed on your phone would you even mess with Titanium Backup?..also always keep a copy of a twrp backup on a extra SDCard of thumb drive...twrp in my opinion is the best thing available for backup and restore over Tit Backup or Samsung kias..spelled the wrong
Just so you know, you no longer have a titanium backup of your phone , unless you backed up online....
That went when you formatted the sd card so it will be a total restock.
In case you didn't realise...

I didnt take the time to read the post above but if you saved your backups on a PC I hope you're talking about your twrp back ups... if so transfer them onto an SD card put it in your phone and restore through team win you're good to go.... as far as a custom ROM for your phone as you probably already know all ROMs are just a preference no ROM is better than the other however my two favorite ROMs for this phone which I am back to lollipop would be Maximum Overdrive and the one I'm running now ...TEKXous hibrid n4... and I've basically installed every single custom ROM available for the T-Mobile Note 4 on marshmallow and on lollipop
Well after I downloaded the firmware and installed it with Odin following this guide:
Instructions
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.12.7
Extract Odin ZIP file
Open Odin v3.12.7
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes
I get this error in Odin:
https://ibb.co/gVrsdF
https://ibb.co/hmREsa
Now when I try turn my phone on in Recovery mode or try to start normally I get a black screen, in the top left:

KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0X1 (2)
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (CSB)
AP SWREV: S1, T1, R1, A1, P1

In the middle of the screen there's a msg:

I hope my phone isn't bricked! :crying:
Help! :crying::crying:
Note: Download mode still works.

Do you have the correct device drivers? They're needed in order to Odin recognize your phone.
Also, you need to delete the ".md5" extension, it only end in tar extension
Or you can try another Odin version...i'm using Odin 3.10.7
its realy realy hard to brick a samsung phone^^
might be the usb cable. also may need to get the pit file and try with a NAND ERASE ALL & repartition. BE SURE AND PUT THE PIT FILE ON CSC
So while I'm No Odin expert, I think that this Odin flashing process has many dependencies.
People have encountered wierd errors with Odin and they were resolved even when the person just chose to use an original Cable (or another) Cable.
samsung drivers are very very crucial. I think you may be able to find them by searching for Galaxy note 4 Odin drivers (they basically come with Kies I think but not sure)
also very important to have kies turned OFF while you're flashing through Odin
make sure you have at least 80percent or more battery when you flash.
theres also some other stuff you need to be careful of that you should look up on Google.
there's a thread on Odin flash troubleshooting on xda...icant remember the name but you should be able to just Google it.
also Google for the exact error message you seen on Odin.. remember there are bound to be other users who have seen the same issue... so you may be able to find a solution via google
And most importantly don't worry, you'll be good soon.
edit: As far as possible don't mess with the Pit files. they're very risky if you don't know what you're doing .
