I know there's a lot of threads on this, and some guides, but they're all so vague. It seems like a lot of people are making suggestions based on assumptions that the people having the problem have a slight idea of what to do.
I don't. At all. All I know is there's a program that lets you control your phone with your PC, but you have to do something that NORMAL people DO NOT think to do with their phone. (Enable USB Debugging.)
Now I'm stuck with an entirely, repeat, entirely non-functioning screen. As in, no display, no response to touch, nothing.
What I want to get off the phone, as far as I know, can't be done just by copying and pasting the files to my computer.
I have some game save files on there that I didn't upload to Cloud, so I can't exactly get them back.
It's really irritating to start games over constantly, and I had a fair bit of progress on a number of them, so I really DON'T want to start over again.
If someone could PLEASE help me with this, properly, with more detailed instructions, I would be grateful. I already downloaded [email protected], but again, since I don't have USB Debugging enabled, and NO WAY to do so by means of the phone, it's kind of useless.
I had a similair situation myself and I just gave up.
You need to enable it in the build.prop and you need to disable rsa signature.
The only way you can do that is by flashing it trough a custom recovery. But you cannot select the file. Thus unless you can figure out a way to flash that trough Odin.....
See, now if it's possible, it would be great to get a walkthrough of how to do so.
Either that, or just be told how to grab the save files of my mobile games so I don't have to start over again.

Even thought it freezes can you still hook it up via USB to your computer? Does it recognize it? If so you can use file explorer and get to all the files, if not I don't know of any way to get to the RAM. You might check for an APP that just mounts the phone as a USB drive and see if that works. Otherwise I would suggest a hard reset to get the OS working again but you will lose all your pics and other files.
Thanks Jambrose.
I've tried the USB but it doesn't recognise it and I'm trying to avoid the hard reset at all costs as there are some pics etc on the phone but also some texts I need to recover. Excuse me for being a bit dumb but what is an app? And where might I find one quickly. Also is it possible that the battery might cause the problem? I've been reading some of the stuff on the web but confess I understand little of it. My knowledge is the human mind not the artificial one unfortunately

an APP is an application, but if the phone is not being recognized via the USB you won't be getting to your files on the phone via the PC. So none of the files were stored on a storage card that you can pull and copy files off of? Sounds to me you are SOL. You could try a different battery but it most likely will need to be charged outside the phone.
I read on FixYa that getting stuck in a loop on the second (android) boot screen can be caused, possibly/maybe/guessing/testing by running something from the SD card. I had my (native) wallpaper there, had just done it, and I got stuck in the android screen loop. Factory ROM 1.1 Tmo US.
I'm sure I installed some apps today, but nothing crazy functional, and tweaked some things. Day 2 for me. Just scoping out wallpapers, and bam.
I don't particularly want to do this again, so I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on the subject. I guess it's happened to at least a few people.
My FixYa post had something to say about leaving WM, possibly, in pursuit of something more reliable....
use ddms or do a logcat to see if there is a problem.
Sorry, day number 2
You might as well be speaking Swahili. I'll google around and find something, but in the future if you're offering help to a real pleeb, and one might find this post later, a link or something, or a translation of what you're talking about would be very helpful.
ddms
Uh, I'm still in the dark, too. ddms doesn't seem to find the device at all. I was operating the factory Tmo image, so I wasn't rooted or anything (funny thing, it wasn't the first thing I wanted to do with the phone). I haven't the foggiest idea how to get the unit properly connected to the PC, even. 2 days.
I do appreciate the tip. It will get me somewhere.
Not that it matters, but I already hard reset. I really didn't have anything on there I was going to keep (Locale settings, and I was sorry to lose the SMS's, but it wasn't that many). I was planning on flashing anyway.
Edit:
logcat Errors
05-23 02:50:31.243: ERROR/EventHub(48): could not get driver version for /dev/input/mouse1, Not a typewriter
05-23 02:50:31.343: ERROR/EventHub(48): could not get driver version for /dev/input/mouse0, Not a typewriter
05-23 02:50:31.373: ERROR/EventHub(48): could not get driver version for /dev/input/mice, Not a typewriter
05-23 02:56:22.423: ERROR/Uapi(148): Microphone Cannot Stop in Unknown State 3.
I'm putting my sim card back in my wizard for the night.... I"ll probably get the hard SPL and flash tomorrow.
Is there a way to identify hardware problems with this pile of tools?
ddms offers logcat viewing abilities. Your link was correct, you just have to run ddms from the tools folder of the SDK. If it doesn't find your device try installing the drivers (and make sure the phone is connected) if it still doesn't find it than there is nothing to do really.
To see a logcat without ddms try this in a command prompt
adb shell logcat -d V > adb.txt
Click to collapse
then open it in notepad
ddms
In my relatively limited experience, particularly with xda-dev, there never truly is "nothing to do." By doing nothing, what am I doing? Giving up and throwing the phone in the garbage? Pursuing & reinstalling the usb driver (which is what I did)? Should I be hearing something kinda like (less comfortable to say?),"I've never run into that, so I don't know what to do in that instance." IMHO, it's better to define that you don't know something; it highlights what you *do* know and makes it easier to see. I'm having a hard time figuring out what you're trying to tell me, unless what you're telling me is very open-ended. If it is, just say so.
So, I do appreciate being able to see what's going on with ddms, but in this instance, what am I looking for?
errors, warnings. Basically anything not in black text LOL
can you not try a factory wipe/reset
Try booting the phone up while pressing the home key, then press Alt+L to turn on the text display then alt +W to wipe the phone that should recover it.
You may need to change the SPL on the phone and do some other minor tweaks Read the rooting thread on here as it explains what i am trying to explain but makes it alot clearer.
or if you wanted to go down the root road then remove your sd card and got the appropriate sticked thread and download a rom i chose JeasusFreake's 1.5 ADP1 build. put the update.zip on the SD card with no other files and boot the phone up with home pressed down
Alt+ L
Alt+W
Alt+ S
and if you are going to use JeasusFreake's rom then download the HTC cupcake radio from http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html
my s4 lcd cracked on its own, no dropping, no misuse, and i didnt have a chance to back up my files/contacts. I recently switched to android after five years with iphone. With the iphone i could simply plug into my pc and transfer files to itunes with no real knowledge. I figured in this day and age and with the level of tech on the galaxy s4 I could do the same.
my problem is i have 8 years of contacts and a few months of photos, videos, etc. I do not wish to lose. If I had to prioritize, the contacts are definitely paramount as I have them no other place. I know, i know, stupid for assuming recovery would be as simple as plugging into my pc.
My problem lies in that I had a lockcode on my phone, did NOT enable developers options prior to it crashing, and have ZERO experience with "crm flashing, and mounting, etc, etc" and really have no clue what they even are. I can follow instructions and learn pretty quickly, but cant write code or anything like that if that is what is required.
Can anyone provide me with any help or suggestions? I am even willing to take it somewhere to have it recovered if thats an option. I really am desperate for help here and would appreciate anything. Thanks. YOu can message me here or email at [email protected].
Thank you all.
BTw, i downloaded an app called drfone which came up in a google search under "recover dead/broken s4 data:". Well, i dont know who actually took the time to write that post out but it has detailed instructions on how to recover the data from a dead or broken phone, but contradicts itself at every turn since you need access to the touchscreen on the phone itself. That poster must of left their logic button unchecked that day.

Do you have samsung kies installed on your pc?? Also can your phone be switched on? I mean does it power up?? If so I think you can backup your contacts n stuff....get kies on your pc
Hey guys,
I cracked my s5 screen and need to backup everything and restore it onto another s5.
Phone info: NO ROOT, Pattern-locked screen.
I tried a lot (I mean A LOT) of different methods, and if I would be able to successfully backup/restore with a few easy steps, I still would like to have the following questions/methods answered.
They are as follows:
1. USB debugging mode is enabled, so i can use adb commands, which I have already. I have done the pull /sdcard/ command. I was able to get pictures, videos, downloads, etc. But I dont think it backed up any apk's. Any idea as to which pull command can fully backup the phone including apps, and if possible also text messages??
2. I have purchased a usb OTG (On-the-go) which allows me to connect my mouse to my phone. I cannot see the screen so i tried to randomly swipe my lock pattern, but i wasn't able to. So, what I thought of was to connect my phone to my mac, and use android screencast (which shows my phones screen on my mac monitor) while also using my mouse to control my phone. However, the USB OTG only has 1 usb slot, so I can either connect my mouse, or take out the usb otg adapter and connect the micro usb directly to my phone that connects to my laptop.
So the question is. Can I connect two micro-usb's into my phone simultaneously? One would be the usb-otg adapter( to connect my mouse into) and the other would be the micro-usb that would connect to my mac(in order to see the screen.) This way I would be able to control my phone with a mouse, and see my screen on my laptop monitor. I use mac btw.
3. If I can't connect two micro-usb's into my s5, can I enable bluetooth to connect to a wireless mouse via abd commands or any other method?
3. Can I root my cracked-screen phone? And without losing any data?
4. Is there a way to disable the pattern-lock on my phone using adb commands? I have read solutions to this for older galaxy models, but they didn't work for my phone.
Yes, these are tough questions, and I hope some of you have the proper knowledge and patience to answer them.
Please be specific, and note the Question # you are providing an answer to.
Thanks
The Puma
Your post doesn't quite make sense, which I think is because you're leaving something critical out or making an assumption that you aren't telling us about. e.g. you cracked your screen.. okay. I'm sure that is frustrating but how does it cause you any significant difficulty in using your phone?
There is something that you're not telling us. We can't see your phone or tell what you are thinking.. did you forget to mention that you broke your digitizer? Or perhaps broke the LCD, so that your screen doesn't power up? Or something else?
Tell us what the actual problem is, because a cracked screen per se would not impair normal phone use. If we don't know what is going on, it's hard to offer good advice on how to proceed.
If you do a search, you can find posts describing how to bypass a pattern lock if USB debugging is enabled. If you can't view your screen directly for some reason, there are various ways to root or even easier, assuming an unlocked bootloader, simply install a custom recovery.. which is only a few clicks. Then boot to recovery mode, allowing you to run a root ADB session and use the dd command to backup your partitions.

Yes, the digitizer is cracked as well, and my screen is black. That is the reason I am using Screencast to view my screen on my laptop monitor.

I am guessing you can see the screen on your PC. Well, you can open up Google Play on your PC browser, search for the app "Helium backup" and let it install on your phone. That app can backup all your app data and other stuff as well I think, but I know for sure that it can backup the app data, which I assume is what you desire. The data can even be backed up to a Cloud. From there it should be easy to restore on your new S5. Also, the messages etc. are backed up on your Samsung account, that shouldn't be a problem as well.
Hi and sorry if this is answered elsewhere. I have a Note 7 with a shattered and nonfunctional screen. There is no way to get any info from it, except for whether the backlight is on or off.
I want to get as much data off of it as possible before I go any further, and to do that I was going to run the "scrcpy" utility. However, this depends on adb debugging being enabled. I've tried to find info online on how to do this on this particular model, but info is scarce and the vast majority seem to be either for other models or assuming I have access to a screen of some kind. Which, I don't, which is the entire point.
Does anyone have an idea of how to pull this off? Unfortunately without the screen, I am very much operating blindly here.
Thanks.
Replace the display or navigate it blindly (if the touchscreen still works). Otherwise it's a little late for data backup...
