[Q] Root acces problem with Hosts and bootanimation file

I rooted my phone with Unrevoked 3.21 and successful, but when I try to adjust a file in my phone (eg hosts and bootanimation) I don't seem to have any success.
In adb I can push it to the phone, but when I reboot my phone I get nothing. I tried to push the bootanimation to various maps that I found that have the bootanimation, but when I reboot I don't get the new animation to load.
When I try to replace the files in root explorer I always get a "not enough space" error and my phone reboots.
I don't know what I did wrong because I got the SU working but I can't get any file from the sd card or my pc on my phone successful.
This was the reason I rooted my phone because I want to edit my hosts file for no ads and a new bootanimation.
I added my bootanimation and the hosts file if anybody can check if maybe that’s the problem. (just remove the zip from the hosts file and open with notepad, I couldn't get it uploaded else)
Reboot recovery, then go partitions/mount system and ./adb push.
Edit : Just noticed.. you need a path.
There you go :
Code:
./adb push hosts /system/etc/hosts
./adb push bootanimation.zip /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
./adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
Assuming you have those 2 files in your adb path of course..
I uploaded a screen from my cmd window, because I went in recovery and did the adb thing and I can see that my pc did something. But when I rebooted my phone I still get the same old white HTC bootanimation.
Edit: I got it to work with this, thanks for the help madwifi
power off
plug in usb cable
hold volume down+power
volume down once to select recovery and then hit power
now you should be at the clockworkmod recovery menu
select "partitions menu"
select "mount /system"
on my computer, click start, run, and then type "cmd" and hit enter to get a dos prompt
(For noobs like me I found this site: http://www.jonamerica.com/technology/howto-root-the-htc-droid-incredible/#bloat) where I found some extra information
Is there a way to change the Splash screen like with this flasher? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638 on the Wildfire? because it has a lower resolution.
Not until we get the s-off patch from alpha rev
thanks for the information, I didn't know that

[Guide][NOOB-Friendly] How to share your Nandroid Backup and Modem

As we are having a lot of Jelly Bean leaks lately, a lot of users want to share the Nandroid backup to others but sometimes they make mistakes which ends up in md5 mismatches or some of them don't know how to create a share-able zip.
I have tried to create this guide to enable them in doing so. Hope this will help everyone.
Requirement:
CWM Recovery
7zip, Winrar or any file compressing tool
ADB setup in your PC
Click to collapse
Once you have applied the OTA and done a factory reset, Follow the process given below:-
If your have ClockworkMod Touch Recovery 6.0.1.2 (Believe me it is easier and better in Touch recovery - Get it from here) follow these:-
In CWM Recovery
Reboot into Recovery => Hold Volume Up + Home + Power buttons together for about 5-7 seconds, release the buttons when you see the recovery menu
Choose -> Backup and Restore
Chooose -> Choose Backup Format (Optional)
Change Backup format to tar (Optional)
Choose -> Create image.zip
This will create an image.zip and an image folder in your Internal Sdcard inside the clockworkmod>backup folder
Copy the image.zip file to your PC, rename it to the software version you are sharing for e.g. GT-I9300-XXXXXXXX. Important do not put spaces in the name.
Upload this zip to whichever Filehosting site you want to share with.
*this image.zip can be flashed in CWM directly without having the need to extract the files inside*
Click to collapse
If you have ClockworkMod Recovery 5.5 (Get it from here) Follow these:-
In CWM Recovery
Reboot into Recovery => Hold Volume Up + Home + Power buttons together for about 5-7 seconds, release the buttons when you see the recovery menu
Choose -> Backup and Restore
Choose -> Backup (either Internal or External SDcard by default it will backup to ExtSDcar)
Your Backup will now be there inside the clockworkmod>backup folder, Copy this folder to your PC
Zip the Folder and give it a name for e.g. GT-I9300-XXXXXX (Dont use spaces)
Now you can upload this zip to any filehosting service of your choice
Click to collapse
How to extract the modem:-
For extracting the modem you need to be rooted (If you are not or want to know how go here)
Using ADB (Go here if you want to know how to set up ADB)
Connect your phone to you PC (Please ensure that ADB debugging option is checked in Developer Options)
Type
Code:
adb devices
You will get something like this:
Code:
List of devices attached
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX device
It shows your device is connected via ADB
Type
Code:
adb shell
You will get a output like this:
Code:
C:\adb>adb shell
[email protected]:/ $
Type
Code:
su
You will get:
Code:
su
[email protected]:/ #
(Those who are using Terminal Emulator can start from this step)
Type
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 of=/sdcard/modem.bin bs=4096
You will get
Code:
[email protected]:/ # dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 of=/sdcard/modem.bin bs=4096
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 of=/sdcard/modem.bin bs=4096
8192+0 records in
8192+0 records out
33554432 bytes transferred in 2.892 secs (11602500 bytes/sec)
[email protected]:/ #
Your modem.bin file is copied to the root of your sdcard, copy it to your PC and upload it to the file hosting site of your choice
Click to collapse
I have tried to write everything to the best of my knowledge. If anyone feels that I have missed something or I have written something wrong please let me know. I will make the changes.

Well that escapes me..may be someone knowledgeable can shed some light on it..
Sorry..
Maybe the that provided with the firmware is a patch..I know OTA files are patches but can't say much about full firmwares..
I'm trying to do this using the terminal emulator in Rom toolbox and u keep getting permission denied?
(from what I understood we had two ways of doing this correct? A computer and adb or TE, correct?)

HTC G1 UK - Root guide for stock fw

Please do not try this unless you have a G1 from the uk, it may work on devices from europe but i'm not sure so do so at your own risk
Thought i'd make this quick guide as I just got a G1 and have been looking through tonnes of guides and trying to hunt down files, this method is a bit of a mix between some of the older methods of getting root. The only reason I had to do it like this is because I was not able to install any apps via the web browser because they wouldn't download.
0. Start with device powered off
1. Copy DREAIMG.NBH from HappyNewYearUK.zip to sd card
2. Hold camera and power to boot into spl and then then flash the nbh
3. Reboot device after flashing
4. Once booted turn device off, remove sim card and reboot
5. At the no sim screen slide keyboard open and type <enter>setprop persist.service.adb.enable 1<enter>
6. Power off, put simcard back in the device and reboot
7. On pc run "adb shell" then enter "am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.android.settings/.Settings"
8. Once settings has opened connect to wifi then go back to setup and complete setup steps
9. Install androot via adb "adb install androot.apk"
10. Power down device and put signed-kila_uk-ota-116470-prereq.TC5-RC7.7a5a0178.zip on sd card as update.zip
11. Hold home and end call button to boot into recovery
12. Press alt + l then alt + s to install the update
13. Press home+back after flashing and let the device reboot (do not touch it until back on android as it may do multiple flashes after exiting recovery)
14. Power down device and repeat from step 10 to 13 with signed-kila_eu-ota-146733.53218c9e(full update).zip
If you just wanted to get root to be able to install a recovery you can stop here, if you want to get up to the newest stock fw 1.6 follow the rest
15. Power down device and repeat from step 10 to 13 with signed-CRB17-from-TMI-RC9-eu.17667e06(inkrementalni update).zip (may not be necessary i dont remember lmao)
16. Power down device and repeat from step 10 to 13 with signed-kila_eu-CRB43-from-CRB17.1638e1b4.zip
17. Power down device and repeat from step 10 to 13 with signed-kila_eu-CRC1-from-CRB43-FIX2.1c36f92b.zip
18. Power down device and repeat from step 10 to 13 with signed-kila_eu-CRC37-from-CRC1.404fe17f.zip
19. Power down device and repeat from step 10 to 13 with signed-kila_eu-DRC92-from-CRC37.a7b90b4e.zip
20. Once the updates zips have both been installed you can reboot then get root using the Universal androot app
Installing Recovery
1. Copy the flash_image binary from flash_image.zip to sdcard
2. Copy recovery-RA-dream-v1.7.0.img to sdcard as recovery.img
3. From either adb shell or terminal emulator on the device do
su
mount -o remount, rw /system
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
chmod 777 /system/bin/flash_image
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
