I just received this on another fourm and wanted to pass it on the the XDA users..

Attention: It is highly recommend that any Verizon Wireless Android device running on Android 2.1 do not perform a factory reset/ data wipe. If you do, you will lose your 3G data service and you will not be able to regain it. Reports of this issue have been swarming since yesterday. This has been replicated multiple times with the LG Ally, HTC Droid Eris, Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Incredible, and the Droid X. The only Verizon Wireless Android device not affected is the Motorola Devour. This information comes to me from a source within Verizon Wireless. I am told that the highest level technicians at VZW are absolutely puzzled about what is causing this. There is nothing wrong with Verizon’s system. There appears to be something internally wrong with the devices after performing such a reset. There is no way to reverse/correct this. I will hopefully have more confirmation of this from Verizon tomorrow morning.
Stay tunned..

i'm gonna have to call bs on this considering we've all been "wiping data" and basically doing factory resets by flashing these new froyo leaks and nobody has lost their 3g.

Not true. I have performed many wipes/factory rests on DI. Still have 3g. So mark this up as FALSE
I don't think I can count how many times I have wiped data on this thing. My 3G works like a champ every time. What the heck is this referring to?
Gee what a posting from a moderator:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-ally/141276-attention-running-android-2-1-big-read-me.html
Posts this same nonsense to 10 different forums on that system in different device areas, and then LOCKS EACH THREAD. Kinda like something you get via email from a misinformed friend. Perhaps his account has been hacked.
Obviously bogus. First thing I did with my son's dinc when it arrived the other day was wipe and factory reset it, did the same with mine at least a couple times already as well.
I had to do a factory reset to clear up the memory issue before I rooted.
BS...
this was worth a good laugh...
I've done it dozens of times during my rooting and unrooting my DI. I've even done it as instructed by VZW tech support. I have never lost my 3g anyhow.
I am holding off getting the turbo in hopes of a Dev Edition of the phone.
Unless bootloader unlocking is under way.
This is being typed from my locked down Droid Maxx. Needs more WiFi tether!

Yeah, I won't buy it unless I can unlock it via Sunshine or some other method.
I too will wait a bit and see how things go hopefully there are dev editions(64gb too!). Gotta plan for the future!! (Lollipop breaking previous rooting methods [><] )
Has there ever been a dev edition droid phone? You might be waiting a looooong time.

Actually it was about 30 days.
Maxx Launch : 8/20/13
Maxx Dev : 9/18/13
But it was a surprise when it hit the website.
As much as I want this phone I can't go back to being locked. So for me I will wait I don't have an upgrade until June anyway. If they make a Dev edition. I will get it and then just sell my upgrade in June. If not I may just hold out till the next round of phones comes out and see what is available. By then we should see the full 64bit phones coming out.

Waiting is the best option, if you are on Verizon for the dev edition, if you are from another carrier, for the internation version annoucement.
I'll wait for a few weeks to see if Dev edition surfaces up.

My bad, read the wikipedia page wrong when they said "first released 7/23/13". I guess that was the announcement.
Yes I am definitely waiting. It makes sense to me that one will come out for this as VZW won't do one for the Moto X this time around. In my little brain, I'm reasoning that is because they are planning a DE for the turbo instead. Hope I'm right. I can't go back to locked and hoping for root and write ability on every update.
If not, I'm biting the bullet and going with the Nexus even though it's huge!
Sent from my Dev Edition Moto X
As long as I can root an international version is fine. Wont touch a phone without root, uh uh, no way, not going to happen. Ever. Or at least until every last phone on the planet is hopelessly locked. But then I think thats just common sense...
A dev edition would be an instant buy from me. No questions asked.
VZW should have a very simple two-step financial plan:
- Step one - release a developer edition of the Turbo
- Step two - prepare to catch the large bag of money I throw in their direction
I've been rooting all my phones, just bought the 64gb turbo. I see no need to root seriously this phone is ridiculous

I agree to a point as far as custom Roms go there is no need. However there are other things that require root. Like WiFi tether cast screen for chrome cast unless this phone has it built in like the nexus does if not then you need an app that requires root.

Here is a download for the 5.0.2 soak test from Motorola for XT1053 devices. I have not tried this yet, I received this from a friend who reported it successfully working on his device.
I do not take responsibility if this file bricks, destroys, or sets fire to your phone. Use this at your own risk. I have not tested this file, therefore I cannot confirm that it works.
If you do venture to try this, please report back.

The OTA updates, including soak/beta or whatever you want to call pre-release received via the Moto Feedback Network, and those pushed by the carriers, have pre-flash validation checks in them.
They check for certain things in build.prop, particular files (and checks their hash/check sum), etc. IF your phone doesn't match, the OTA wont install. In addition, with the OTA's and these leaked ZIPs including updates to GPT.BIN and the bootloader, and history showing how easy it is to brick trying to downgrade when those are involved, that could complicate trying to get back on track should Moto or the Carriers push something else out.
A while back, I think it was the Droid X, there were leaked updates, people were flashing them, they were not meant to be released and the people who installed them got STUCK unable to update for a while. It was a while ago, so my memory is fuzzy, but a process was finally found, but it took a while, and a few updates, to bring those people back in line. And it was a little more difficult due to locked bootloaders.
So practicing a little caution is a good thing.

Nice way to justify leaking stolen software. Always amusing to see wanna-be devs pirating someone else's work and somehow justifying it to themselves.
KidJoe,
One person can update his bootloader, others supplied with system partition backups don't have to. Deployed Android doesn't require updated motoboot, or secure things. You know what I mean...

Actaully, based on history with the 2013 X...
That doesn't always work right. i.e. When it was found that 4.4.2 broke MotoWpNoMo and SlapMyMoto, some tried upgrading by flashing only PARTS of the 4.4.2 rom (so they could roll back).. They ran into features not working, like App Drawer -> Settings -> Security.
We've seen other issues arise when partially flashing too, but they were a while back so my memory is a little fuzzy on the specific details.

For the ones who are lazy in reading comments, this is the reason that this guy gives for the delay:
"Verizon delays on latest smartphones are due to Nationwide HD Voice. We want to make sure Software updates for HD Voice service is acceptable and does not impact voice quality. Verizon is the only company that has nationwide HD Voice in the USA. AT&T just has most metro cities here and there. T-Mobile and Sprint are way behind"
:good:
P.D. Maybe now is the time for the Maxx's users to complain about not getting 5.1 as well as the Turbo.
Doesn't the iPhone 6 have HD Voice already? I wonder why they didn't need to delay its release by months so they can test it.

From the same guy:
AC 1.0 is not just network related. The unique situation Verizon finds itself is having its original CDMA voice network.. Hard for us to dance around between LTE and CDMA to support VoLTE due to best signal strength in different environments. So with each device update, there is usually a few Qualcomm patches to improve that transition and try to cover all possible calling scenarios our customers may face in our network. And also supporting XLTE new bands. Some device updates turn on a new LTE band on a phone that might have been dormant in an earlier software build.
And Qualcomm is not perfect, so some times when they improve on thing, they break another. So my job and many others in Verizon is to double check all software changes our devices take in... Hence the delay

Motorola is small potatoes on budget compared to Samsung and Apple. Delays are usually due to funding for test verifications on new device software.

Take "mid-June" with a grain of salt.
All that means is it probably won't come BEFORE then.
Note the Google + post has been deleted which was referenced in the op. So, actually there is no date promise anymore...
Yeah, there's a lot of built up anger towards Motorola and Verizon (should be directed towards Verizon), so any engineers/spokespeople who publicly post even good news at this point will get lots of backlash for broken promises, lack of past communication -- and rightly so. They need to learn from this instead of running away from it.

Nexus 6 is near identical internals.
VoLTE works fine sans camera and I'm certain that is software related.
So I'd take the VoLTE cause for the hold up with a grain of salt too. Especially since Verizon was so willing to ship it last year when it was clearly broken and would have shown in testing.

Apparently the Sunshine team that finally cracked the Droid Turbo has had no luck finding an exploit on this phone. It's gonna come down to giving one to someone who can crack it and pay them if they want money... If you really need root, at this point it would be easier to buy an X-Force, you can get the unlock code from Motorola. Verizon is not letting them hand out codes for the Droid Turbo 2.
There's a few root threads to read over, no one has gotten close to cracking the bootloader yet, until that happens, perm root is not achievable on this phone.

Good luck rooting that iPhone.
There's plenty of phones better than iPhone, and which can be rooted. You just bought the wrong phone. You should stay away from any Verizon phones in general, if rooting is important to you. Or at least make sure there's an exploit (like with Droid Turbo) before buying.
Why is there an option for "unlocking bootloader" in developer's options for Droid Turbo 2?
Never understood why Verizon will leave this option on the phone but can't unlock it?
