First of all, please post stuff like this in the Apps & Games sub-forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/apps-games), not in General; General is for discussing the OS as a whole.
Second, what is the difference between the trial and the paid version of the app? Unless the trial is fully-featured, you're probably breaking the forum rules (you *did* read them before posting, riiiight?) as advertising paid apps is explicitly forbidden.

Traffic Application

Hi... as always... many many compliments for your great tools!!
I've a question to ask to you... 4 the moment, there isn't any app wich show traffic info with IMAGES in italy.
i've seen, on THIS SITE a lot of traffic cams...
Now i am asking if it's possible to have an app wich handle about 100-150 links to this site (and display its content!)
To do that, the app should read links from a database (possibly a text file) with a similar order:
HIGHWAY CODE, PROGRESSIVE NUMBER (nord->sud),CAM NAME,Link
a1,001,Roma sud,hxxp://www.autostrade.it/autostrade/popupTelecamera.do?tlc=121
and it can be useful for other countries/cam!
Cool functions can be a chackable list of cams to refresh and view "as a ppt presentation"
Don't worry 4 the database, it will be done from italian people.... if you can do this, i will kiss your foots!!
if no, don't worry i will understand!
it's because it is useful only 4 italian people?

AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) on WM5

I've spent hours searching for the supposedly hacked version of AIM 2.0 for Windows CE 2003 that allows people on Windows Mobile 5 to use it. The problem with the standard AIM 2.0 available from AOL in the USA is that it has a menu on the bottom of the screen, and this causes havok in WM5 and WM6. I knew I had this "hacked" UK version of AIM 2.0 CE in the past, and had gotten it from this forum, but no google searching or forum searching could turn it up. After lots of manual post reading I've found the relevant post that contains it, so I'm making this post to save the rest of the world some time (should any strange individuals like myself seek to use the official AIM client on WM5+). I know a policy of this forum is to post links to prior threads rather than starting new threads but I feel there is no thread that concerns this topic. There is a thread about keeping GPRS connected in WM5, and one user of that thread suggests using Pocket AIM for this purpose and provides an attached copy of the "hacked" version of it (which seems to astonish people posting in that thread because AIM isn't supposed to work on WM5). So, here it is and please do not remove this post, since it will enable google surfers and forum searchers to find this rare file without wasting their time (not that browsing this forum all day is ever a waste of time).

If this was or is an official version, I'd like someone to add it to the WM5 compatibility list. Maybe I'll post a link in there as well.
Note: I've tried imov messenger and tons of others, but I choose this client for AIM because of unexplainable personal preference, so please don't post a million replies about how silly I am not to use whatever client you prefer.
UPDATE: After buying a new phone and lots of time going by, I went to this post to get AIM and the download link wasn't functional. A different link to the same file can be found in this post: http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/588878-post36.html on a different forum. Maybe I'll post it in here when I get around to it. Any mirrors are welcomed.
very very nice post, I've sent this to about 20 people.

[APP] Barcode Scanning Application

Hello all,
I was hoping you could take a moment and provide some feedback on a software project that myself and a group of others created for a business module we are taking.
The idea is a simple (and certainly not unique!!) one.
1. Take Picture of Barcode
2. Decode
3. Get Amazon results for that barcode
The software (attached) has been thrown together just to demo the concept. It uses a web service to do the decoding which makes it pretty slow, it is not production quality software, it is just for testing the concept.
If you have a second and give it a go, please take a second and answer the following:
1. Did it work?
2. Would you use it? (If not, why not)
If you don't feel like downloading it, it would be great if you could take a second and reply saying why you don't want to, e.g. "I just don't think I would find it useful.."
Thanks,
Scott
P.S. Sorry if this is not the correct place on the foum to post this, but it seemed the most appropriate.
P.P.S. I tired to attach the source to this as I am not sure how to create a cab and so this might not run correctly on peoples phones that have not run .NET apps before, but the attach page kept timing out...
Great stuff!!!
I have not downloaded the app.
Here's why:
There are other FREE barcaode apps out there that do the same but query more than one system.
Suggestion
Expand your query to other database
Market your product by telling what's different from the others
Will try this...I'll give some feedbacks after few days...cheers
Definetly going to try this out. Thanks for posting, and ill report back also, after some testing. Thanks again.
dschoenike
Cheers for the feedback. Just a word of warning, this is a really really REALLY rough prototype.
@tricsio: Thanks for the feedback, this is exactly the sort of feedback we were looking. Our plans to expand this are:
1. Do image recognition on the device to remove need for sending big files
2. Instead of querying amazon directly with barcode as we do now, send it through an intermediate webservice that we control, which will search multiple sites and return this list back to the device.
3. We also considered things like integrating it with our University's library system to check if a book is available, on loan, the shelfmark etc.
@admins that may read this, I didn't notice the sticky before posting, I am going to read it now and edt the post if it violates any of the rules, sorry about that.

I could try this, but its also preferable for my grade if I try and find ways to stop them happening too.

Twas my first thought as well. No Uni project would be set up like this, especially not a real research project.
Really?
"Module CPU4000 Core Skills
OSS Assignment
Interacting with an Open Source Software Development Community
Marks from this assignment will contribute 50% of the overall mark for the module.
Aims
• to develop awareness of the process of open source software (OSS) development.
• to develop confidence and initiative in interacting with an OSS development community.
• to display skills in verbal communications.
Task 1 Start and maintain a diary or blog
Start a diary or set up a blog for the assignment and continue to post entries throughout. Keep a record of everything you do towards the assignment and every response from the community.
Task 2. Find a suitable Open Source Software Development Project
Find an active open source software application in an area that interests you.
A few examples of areas where one or more sites have already proved suitable are given below, but you should not feel restricted to these areas alone.
personal finance package currency converter
music editor / mixer music instrument tutor e.g. guitar
music synthesis media player
image manipulation and tagging video editor / standards converter
text editor web development / web browser
game (various) game development environment
flight simulator desktop publishing
integrated office package social networking
language translation blog
code development environment architectural design package
mobile device app development operating system
virus checker screen grabber / recorder
voice over IP system project management
database management system email package
Some examples of where to look for OSS development projects are:
Sourceforge
Apache Software Foundation
Mozilla Foundation
Google code
Eclipse Foundation (also via Google code)
Ohloh
Search engine (any) search for <open source> followed by keywords
describing an applications that interests you.
To determine whether the development community is active, locate the forum or reporting part of the site and check the dates of recent postings and responses. Also check the analysis and metrics for the project at
If the application is clearly inactive, make a note of what you have found, but then STOP and look for something else. It is quite normal to find that your first choice of site is inactive, so don't leave it too long before you reach that conclusion and move on. If you post a question and nobody has replied after a few days, it’s time to move on.
Task 3. Do something to interact with the community
Here are a few examples:
• Work through a tutorial or some other documentation. Find something that is unclear, confusing, or is out of date, and write an amendment. Submit your improved version.
• Become familiar with the application. Then pick a question that has been posted on a forum, investigate the issue raised and post a comment either answering the query satisfactorily, or contributing in some way that will help others work towards a solution.
• Investigate an existing bug report and try to duplicate the circumstances that gave rise to the problem. Then make a change to something and see if the bug is repeatable. Try to narrow down the circumstances when the bug will / will not appear. Report your findings to the development community.
(This is known as 'reducing' a bug. For an explanation and an example of a list of known bugs in a project, see: )
• Download some software or some small element (e.g. a library function) and get it working properly. Devise some tests and write up the results. If the software doesn't perform exactly as described in the documentation, take action as appropriate: if you are unsure, post a question on a forum, but check for previous reports first. If you are quite sure, submit a bug report describing the circumstances, or amend the documentation and submit the revised version to the community. Follow up the response.
• Specify improvements or suggest one or more new features that you would like added to the software.
There are many possibilities and so you should not be limited by these suggestions. What is important is that you interact in a constructive manner with an OSS development community.
Task 4. Make a presentation
Make a short presentation to the class, describing what you have done and the nature of the interaction that took place. The presentation should last about 5 minutes, after which you should invite questions.
Describe what you have done and the nature of the interaction that took place. Include evidence of your contribution, either by linking to the website where your work is apparent, or by screen shots.
Explain the choice of package and the evidence that convinced you the community is active. If you started to investigate a project that subsequently proved to be unsuitable, briefly mention the details and the reason why you abandoned it.
Date of Presentations: Week commencing Monday 3rd December
The presentation may be recorded to show the External Examiner.
Marking Scheme
Nature and depth of the interaction 50%
Presentation 50%
Grade A: Substantial and serious interaction described in an exemplary presentation
Grade B: As above, but less of an interaction, or with some deficiencies in presentation
Grade C: As grade A, but the interaction was minor or there were some serious deficiencies in the presentation.
Grade D: Trivial interaction and/or serious deficiencies in the presentation.
Grade E or F: No interaction and/or very poor presentation.
Any Questions?
If in doubt, don’t struggle. Come and see me in room C2-7a. Roy Attwood

how to install comodo antivirus on Windows 8

dear all,
until now (jan 16, 2013), i can not install comodo antiviurs on Windows 8 (acer 4736 laptop).
in the beginning, install going to normal, but after i log out and restart,
windows 8 give me blinking display... and i can not enter password (always blinking)
please, can you help me....
First question would be "Why??" seeing as Win8 has built-in antivirus.
Second question would be "Why ask here?" as this is not a tech support forum, much less one specific to your particular program (shouldn't you be asking Comodo about this?)
Third question would be, literally, "have you tried turning it off and turning it on again?" as it may just be that the initial reboot failed for whatever reason.
Other questions that come to mind:
Do you have BitLocker enabled?
Does the Windows logo appear before you get to the screen with the flashing cursor, or not?
If you go to the Windows bootloader screen (used to be press F8 right when the OS starts loading, might be different now), can you boot a "last known good configuration"?
tq for your response GoodDayToDie,
(1) Why?? because i already familiar with comodo and can be set firewall to one or multiapplication. So i can choose one by one application so it can connect or disconnect from internet.
(2) is it windows 8 general forum??? so may be i have someone which much experience to help me to solve my problem..
(3) turn it off or on (already done but still blink)
(4) bitlocker enabled? no i did, i try to install comodo with clean / fresh windows 8.
(5) windows logo is appear, and blink in log on display
(6) last known good? (you mean to back as before i install comodo? yeah, it is normally again but comodo it's gone.... (
I suppose it's possible you didn't know this, but Windows Firewall has allowed application-by-application control (and a great many other fine-grained settings, like controlling access from a specific application to a specific external host in a specific direction on a specific port and specific protocol and depending on whether you're on a home, work, or public network) since Vista. I mean, sure, I can understand wanting to use a program you're familiar with, but if what you know is broken, sometimes the solution is to use something else.
No... it's the "General" section of the Win8 dev & hacking forum. This question pertains neither to development nor hacking for Win8; it's pure tech support. Again, shouldn't you be asking Comodo about this?
If you have access to the boot screen (which it sounds like you do, if you were able to use Last Known Good configuration), you might try Safe Mode, get the system to boot up, then check the Event Viewer for any problems occurring at the times that you booted up before. That's just a guess of where you might learn more, though; beyond that I really don't know. You could also try (if it's Win8 Pro and you've enabled this option) accessing the machine using Remote Desktop instead of trying to log in at the console, but usually that only works if the problem is in hardware.
The op post question in the right forum. This is win 8 devl and hack but in general forum. Any questions regarding win 8 does not need to be about devl and hacking can post them here in general. The key word is general and it doesn't have to do with devl and hacking. Say you can post how to swipe a charm bar or how to install flash player in here and it has nothing to do with devl and hacking but would be wrong to post in devl and hacking section. You don't have to go to adobe tech support for it if it can be answered here.Others thought maybe op question can be exposed better and answered here as oppose to comodo forum and maybe comodo is not an active forum among others reasons. No disrespect to comodo forum for I never visit. Or maybe op likes xda forum better . I don't know...
Posting how to do cool things is a reasonable use of XDA-Devs... posting a request for tech support of a third-party product just doesn't feel like one. Maybe it's due to the wider userbase of Win8, or maybe things have just changed, but that's not the sort of thing I used to see very often on this site, and if somebody did try asking, the usual response was "take it to the seller/manufacturer/developer". IMO (note: not a moderator, or we wouldn't be discussing this here), this is basically spam, diluting the useful posts (like, tips, tricks, ideas for hacks,, notifications of newly released apps or tools, etc.) and making me wonder why I bother reading General. Maybe I just won't bother.
Also, the OPs account is at most a couple weeks old... that's an awfully short time to fall deeply in love with a site to the point that you would post *anything*, no matter how related to the site's purpose, there.

no lovely yet (actually), may be letter, but now, if i connect to the internet, i always type forum.xda-developers.com
Fair enough... I don't mean to scare people away from XDA-Devs, just that everything has a place. I don't understand why you'd expect help here regarding a mostly-unrelated third-party product, though. The best you could hope for is somebody else having had that problem, *and* fixed it, *and* not have bothered to post the solution yet, *and* they see your post. Given that there's no info I could find in a quick search related to this problem, it seems like the obvious answer is to take it to the people who would know... the developers. There's also a perfectly good forum of people who use Comodo over at forums.comodo.com.
If you'd asked "how can I set per-application firewall rules in Win8" then people could, and would, help out here. If you'd asked "is it possible to add a firewall rule from a Windows Store app?" it would even be on-topic. Whatever... we're both wasting our time here. I've given you all I can, which mostly boils down to advice.
