I decided to make a post on this due to the fact that I have decided to get a different phone (iPhone), but wanted to keep my AppRadio 3 function. I decided to make this to assist anyone else who would like a more stable solution in their car.
*****Note*****
1. This will go over the initial setup of AppRadio Unchained with a MK809III stick. I am using V 5_2. I bought this from Amazon. It came with 2GB RAM, Quad Core, and a skinned 4.2

2. Almost all Android sticks are a little different. Most stock roms work fine, so don't attempt to load a different ROM unless you are 100% sure you have a one that is built for your EXACT stick.
3. The final goal is to have something that functions mostly off no internet connection. WiFi Tether works, but I wanted something I could use daily without the extra step.
4. This step will work initially. I will be expanding/editing this to expand of a fix for Google Music Storage to the SD card (not NAND) and ROM Flashing (Please see above).
5. Do this at your own risk. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU MAY OR MAY NOT DO TO YOUR DEVICE OR RADIO.
***** Lets Begin******
You will need.....
- Android Stick MK809III (These steps do not deal with the ROM so any 4.4+ ROM Stick should work)
- Appradio 3 (Support these guys!)
- Bluetooth Auto Connect (Play Store, Free)
- Google Maps or Sygic (Sygic cost $25 for NA maps, again, how data depended do you want to be)
- SuperSU (Play Store, free)
- Kingo Root (PC app, this will be a lot easier if you have a laptop)
- Driver Assist (PC app, search "Release_DriverAssist Rockchip", this will make driver install a lot easier for you, especially if you are on Windows 8+)
- USB Keyboard/Mouse (USB Wireless Mouse works, but a mouse alone is a PITA)
- Smaller HDMI Input Video Source (I used a monitor. This will help when establishing bluetooth)
- A good USB cable (not the one that comes with the Android Stick, I used my LG G3 cable)
1. Boot your Android Stick for a first time. Verify that you have Android 4.4+, the Play Store, and that your HDMI output is set to 720P! (settings - display - output) This is necessary for Appradio & touch.
2. Go to settings - about device. Click on build until you are a developer. Go to developer options & enable USB Debugging mode.
3. Go to settings - security and enable install from unknown sources.
4. On your PC, install the drivers through DriveAssist.
5. Install Kingo Root.
6. Connect your Android Stick to the TV through HDMI only. Connect your PC to the Android stick's OTA plug, not the power one.
7. Once it powers on and settles, go to settings - USB. Select connect to PC. Your computer should start installing drivers for the stick.
8. Once installed, open Kingo Root. It should find your device and be pretty simple at this point, just don't install the free browser they offer.
9. Once Root is complete, Install SuperSu and run. Install binary, but do no reboot. Kingo will request Root access. Grant.
10. Go to Settings - Apps. Go over to All apps. Remove all Kingo Apps, we use SuperSU.
11. Install Appradio Unchained & Bluetooth Auto Connect.
12. In AppRadio Unchained, select the following options....Invert XY, Start/Stop on HDMI, and Start on Boot
13. In Bluetooth Auto connect, select the following options....Bluetooth On, Screen On, Control On, Device Connect
14. Go to your car or as close as possible with your monitor (or whatever), your Android Stick, and keyboard & mouse. Start up your android stick and make sure AppRadio Unchained & Bluetooth come up on boot.
15. Cut your car on. When the AppRadio boots, go to your Android Stick and go into settings - bluetooth. When you see ApprRadio connect. Once it connects, let it download phonebook ( I know).
16. Go back to Blueooth Auto Connect and look at devices. Make sure that AppRadio is selected.
17. Power off your car and plug your Android stick into the Appradio (HDMI and USB through OTA plug)
18. Start your car up & click past the OK message (Using fingers at this point, no mouse should be needed). Wait and you will see the connection item, it will fail. Don't worry. Just press retry & the Hard home button. This will happen about 3-4 times because your Android Stick is booting up.
19. Finally you will see the Bluetooth on your radio connect and Appradio Unchained will finally boot on your screen.
I installed two USB wires, one that goes from the radio to the OTA port, and one that goes from a power switch to the power connector on the stick. When I get into my car, I flip the switch and start up. After a minute I start the car and press the OK for the warning on my radio. This gets past the connection error and boots right into AppRadio Unchained. I have left this on overnight & not had any issues, but I don't want to chance draining my battery.
Please feel free to post any questions.
Will update 6/18 for advanced (details below post)

nice , good job Bro
Wow, impressive work! I don't use the HD2 anymore, but it's bloody great to see some real good dev work being done on it, especially for WM6.5!
is that mean i can browes my flash memory from my HD2 ?!!
Class, able to use a mouse on the HD2 brilliant! Keep up the good work
Hi Cotulla!! you finally made it!
I´m your early "beta tester" from Argentina, we chatted via msn some months ago. Sadly I don´t have the HD2 anymore to try this again. I have an DHD now and there are some people trying to develop this same thing for the DHD.
Congrats!:
Cotulla, please port this to Android. I don't have an HD2 anymore, I upgraded to the Sensation, and i would LOVE to see this on there!
Thanks for not forgotten Windows Mobile 6.5. I am so grateful to see some continue development on this.
A great project, thanks for our big Bro... 謝謝老大。
Great work Mate....
I will flash win6.5 again just to check this....
I might move back to Windows!! Thanks for the great work Cotulla!
Brillant !
I try it with a mouse, it"s fine.
And this evening, I'll try with a 1 Tera mass storage.
A HD2 with 1 To : Where are all the challengers from any brand ?
done a little 5 euro donation (i'm a student and i'm very poor...but i appreciate your hard work!!!)
GO GO GO Cotulla, we hope in a USB Host in Android too, a new MAGLDR, and a Mango 7720 build for our HD2
Thank you for your hard work! What software do I need to connect a mouse? I don't see cursor. USB HDD and keyboard works fine.
For me - USB Stick conflicts with microSD card. If I remove it and reboot, USB Stick works. Else USB Stick not detected.
Wow, the awesomeness of this is too awesome to describe. Very good work Cotulla! I wish I had a HD2 now
Very good work. Congratulations.
The linux of wince htc kernel has had USB host support for a long time now. You don't need to revert to WM6.5
Aim for OP is to do that on Winmo.
Cotulla is king
Thanks for developing. Do you have plan start usb host on android ?
It is only for HD2 or will this work too on Acer Neotouch S200?
Any one tried to connect gamepads? Il try if i get one from my friend. Is gamepad.hid working with leo?

USB Host mode driver for Samsung Captivate
Also available on the Samsung Galaxy S and Nexus S
(main post and more info at the SGS dev site)
Disclaimer: This kernel will enable some very early, and rough usb OTG support for your phone. Currently the phone DOES NOT give out power, so you NEED an external power source to be able to use this kernel. This is true for ALL USB devices, even with those that have their own power source, and doesn't requre external bus powering. Solving this limitation is a TODO, but we cannot guarantee anything. There are some other phones that have usb host support the same way this kernel has (eg. they need external power), like the Nexus One, and there is also a community using this, so if you're saying that usb host support has no sense if you need an external power source then you are definitely mistaken.
This kernel is built upon teamhacksung's ICS Build 14 kernel, and will only work with that particular ROM (and possibly later versions of it). It is possible to port this to older ROMs (like CM7, or stock Gingerbread). Ask your favourite kernel developer to do this for you.
Credits goes to:
The misterious guy at Samsung(?) called chul2 for the original s3c host drivers
Kevin Hester (kevinh, probably also nicknamed geeksville, punkgeek and humcycles) for fixing the s3c host driver for the Samsung Galaxy Tab
Ever kernel developer at teamhacksung for bringing ICS goodness to Galaxy S
This is a very early, and very rough usb host support. Expect crashes, freezes and things that are not working! You will also need external power (probably through a Y-cable or a powered usb hub, see the device connection guide below). Also make sure you are only using USB 2.0 (high-speed) devices. The driver does has some quirks with USB 1.x low-speed and full-speed devices, like mice, keyboards and similar things. Read the FAQ for more information about them. And of course it doesn't work with USB 3.0 (super-speed) devices.

Really cool to see how this works. Have you looked at how it is built into cm7 for the sgs2 by chance. On the sgs2 you do not need an external power source/hub to run a USB thumb drive. Curious if it could be set up the same for the cappy? Neat work your doing here. I had briefly spoken to Atinm a while back once we got it for the sgs2 and he basically said they had never looked into it for the cappy. Look forward to see how this progresses. Thanks

Build 5 released
ChangeLog
Added ability to turn charging on/off while the USB is connected
Added ability to change the Host mode driver. Currently three drivers are present: S3C High-speed (the default), S3C Low-speed/Full-speed (this disables USB 2 mode. Use this if you want to have USB 1 compatibility), and DWC (a separate driver for the same OTG specification, that will probably get into upstream)
Fixed some small issues regarding cleanup after cable is disconnected
The DWC driver does NOT yet work, it will probably crash your phone if you try to use it. I however hope that I will be able to fix it. The other two drivers work well of course. Note that you have to turn off host mode if you want to change the driver (then turn it back on).
Also note that to change the charging mode you have to unplug every cable from the phone before changing the charging mode. In ICS it seems that the small battery icon on the top and the lock screen will still say the phone is charging, but the battery menu in the settings will properly tell you they are mistaken and the battery does not charge indeed.
Usb Host Controller has also changed to version 0.2.
I made a separate thread for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468531
Changes include stability fixes, a new icon, support for the new features mentioned above (changing drivers, disabling charger, etc.) and two nice commands:
Reset USB device
Re-read partition table
The latter command should probably solve a few issues where the flash drive was recognized, but there were no partitions to mount. It also solves the issues of connecting other Android devices. (Simply re-read the partition table after you have enabled usb mass storage mode on the other android, and you will be able to get files from the other phone too)
Excellent! thank you!
Got a cheap OTG cable off of eBay and spliced in the power wires from an other USB cable. Was able to see and copy from the thumb drive and also was able to watch a movie directly from the drive. Was able to charge the phone during the same time.
Next up is to see if an Ant+ receiver will work.
ROM: Dark Night 5.5
Kernal: Devil3_0.79_cappy
Me and my wife have 2 identical Verizon note 3 phones. Her phone works flawlessly when I plug it into a computer or external hard drive or even a card reader. But my phone on the other hand will not recognize anything I plug into it. I've tried updating usb drivers with kies 3 but kies doesn't even recognize my phone. I manually downloaded usb drivers and installed, but nothing.
I even did a phone reset and that didn't help. Thanks for any replies and help.

Most likely a hardware issue then - either something mechanical like an open contact in the connector, or something electrical such as the mux chip connected to the USB connector got fried by static. It is possible that the cable in use is very marginal which would allow it to work with one phone but not the other, but that is sort of rare. But swapping USB cables is a good trial too.
Ignoring software driver issues (on the PC side), does the PC make any noises when you plug the phone in? USB insertions typically are followed on the PC with a two-tone audio confirmation. Second tone higher than the first = hardware detected & driver configured; Second tone lower than the first = hardware detected but driver not configured/not found. No tones at all? Probably a dead USB interface or bad cable or connector.
Also, even on non-rooted phones, from a terminal emulator you can run a 'dmesg' command twice which will spit out the kernel log. By doing it twice (once before plugging in the USB cable and once after) you can see if there is any new hardware detected by Android during the plugging event.
e.g.
Code:
dmesg | tail -n 20
then, plug in the device
Code:
dmesg | tail -n 20
If the Android kernel is detecting new hardware being plugged in, you will see some new jibberish saying something about USB in the second 'dmesg' run. (The first one is run before plugging in so you know what the end of the kernel log looks like.) If the kernel log is unchanged the second time, then you pretty much know that you have a dead USB port (or a bad cable which mysteriously works for one phone but not the other).
You should try to complete the 3-step sequence above fairly rapidly - other stuff routinely appears in the kernel log such as battery status messages. One way of doing that is
Code:
dmesg | tail -n 20 ; sleep 7 ; dmesg | tail -n 20
that gives you seven seconds to plug the cable in - do it as soon as you see output appearing on the screen.
This is the error I get when I plug my phone into the computer.

Thanks for posting the pics
Well, for the 2nd part it looks like you need to be root to run the "dmesg" command. rats. (I assume you are not rooted.)
But the fact that you get a pop-up for the device on the PC says that there *probably* isn't anything wrong electrically, that's good news I suppose.
Let's try this: do you have the developer options turned on on your phone but not the wife's? Specifically I note the ADB interface in your first picture. Try turning off ADB (settings->Developer Options iirc) and possibly also Developer Options and re-plugging the device to see how things go.
The thing which is curious though is that you also mentioned not being able to plug in "other devices" - are you using a OTG cable adapter or something for that purpose? Note that drivers on the PC should have nothing to do with this use case. (Kies does not install "drivers on the phone", only on the PC)
I turned off USB Debugging and then turned Developer Options in settings off. (My wife's phone has Debugging ON and Developer Options ON)
Yes I have a OTG cable which works perfectly on external HD when my wife's phone is plugged into HD
Well after turning off Debugging and Developer Options I get the same error on pc after plugging it in. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Not really. Your phone and the wifes are on the same boot firmware and OS release?
The only other thing that I can think of is that some ROMs pop up a USB notification when you attach a device; in the case of a PC, tapping on that notification will give you a choice between MTP mode and PTP mode. (I don't know if your stock ROM does that).
But given that the first pic you showed indicated a problem with a Mass Storage device, you could experiment with that MTP/PTP toggle (if you can find it).
But I don't know why that would have any effect on the phones behavior with an OTG device attached.
I can say this: there is a "mux" chip directly attached to the USB connector on the phone which allows for detection of a wide variety of devices; it typically comes into play not when using "normal" four-wire USB connections (like to a PC), but has the 5th wire attached to a resistance that goes to the ground terminal. This 5th connection is used in OTG, though. (I know this because I am using a UART adapter on my Note 3 - when the right resistance is present, it switches the connector from a USB interface to the UART interface - different voltages levels and all).
Anyhow, the point is that if that particular part of the Mux chip (OTG device detection pin) was messed up, the mux could (possibly?) stay stuck in a specific mode; it might be electrically active, but never proceed to the correct USB mode.
I don't know how you would correct such a situation, but you could probably identify something like this by looking at the USB "VID/PID" identifier pair that the PC sees for your device when you plug it in, and compare to see if those values are identical to your wife's phone.
In the Windows Device Manager, you find the USB device, select Properties, and then Details Tab. In the pull-down "Property" selector, look at the values for the field called "Hardware Ids" - the VID (Vendor ID) and PID (Product ID) should be identical between the two phones.
Sorry, that's all I've got.
FWIW, I stumbled across something this morning which - while not a "solution" - might make it easier for you to collect some data by comparing the wife's phone to yours.
The Windows Driver Kit 10 (yes, I am assuming you are using a Windows PC) has a graphical tool named "usbview.exe" which provides lots of details about USB devices attached to your PC. (I was installing the WDK for a different reason and happened to notice it).
It's a free download from Microsoft (note also it downloads hundreds of MB of components during it's install), and while the Microsoft Docs describe it as integrating with VisualStudio, there are a bunch of standalone tools in there (including "usbview.exe"). So, for this particular purpose installing VisualStudio is not required.
In my install they were located at
C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Tools\x64\usbview.exe
(or, if you are on 32-bit)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Tools\x86\usbview.exe
good luck! (The only thing the above will do for you is determine what the differences are; from there you will have to figure out a solution.)
PS. Quite a long time ago (in a different context) I ran into an odd problem where two peer computers were not talking to each other correctly. Eventually I traced the problem down to a situation where one side could successfully send and receive data, but the other end could only send (but not receive). If you have something like that going on, it is possible that the PC sees data sent from the USB device - enough to start the configuration process, but can't complete the negotiation process because the other side is deaf.
This is all hypothetical, but it could be something like that - a bad connector pin on one side of the D+/D- USB pins. (Obviously it's not the cable, as you swapped that with no change). On the Note 3, the charging port assembly can be replaced without replacing the motherboard. That could be something to try if you make no more progress.
Thanks for the help I will give it a go

Hi, I think that multimedia is too weak for your car radio, but we can try to fix...
You must find a hidden menu/factory menu/admin menu (asks a pin code to get inside) where infotainment menu is and tweak settings there. If this multimedia has canbus device attached to it make sure to find correct settings for your model of car (PSA settings in hidden menu/can type/bus).

I think that some hardware like gps antenna or some other hardware is not functinal and causing problems. Get a skilled technician to look motherboard and device it self. As far as peripheral ports like USB and othe ports, you can test them on your own, just unplug one by one while device is on and see if device will stabilize its self.
So I’m currently having issues with my android head unit but just wanted to ask about the problem where any setting gets reset/reverted after reboot. Can someone please help me with this issue? I have tried contacting the seller, in which he showed me to change (for instance) the volume settings from within the factory settings, but that still doesn’t work. I know that it’s possible to do it because I was messing around the other day and managed to save a few settings after reboot but can’t remember how anymore. If someone have a solution please tell me.

Same problem here did u manage to solve the problem with reset settings after reboot?
I also had this problem, but after I connected a USB stick with some mp3 music and reset everything, the settings were saved. Apparently the settings (in my case) are stored on a USB stick. Maybe a little tip.

We're waiting .
I'm just wondering if there's a way to change the location to save settings to the head unit itself, so if anyone has a tip....
Maybe I already found the option (just not tested yet).
1. Open your Android device's Settings app.
2. Tap Storage & USB.
3. Tap Internal Storage.
4. Tap the menu icon (three vertical dots).
5. Tap Change where new content is saved.
6. Select a new download location.
7. Tap Done.
There are already a few threads explaining that app and factory settings gets stored on USB drive.
After connecting a USB drive the first time Android asks how to handle the drive in a status bar message.

Now that you mention it, I remember something like that
So I have news.
I connected the usb stick and choice in radio use as internal storage and then after setting all up audio eq all my setting in menu 8888 i did click export to usb or something like that option, and it seems to be remembering so far.
BUT
There occure other problem, before the pendrive trick I did try to figgle aroud in setting options and I think i break shutdown option or so, as yesterday my car battery died.
And I can clearly hear the fans working after car engine off and its somehow working in background.
The normal in settings sleep mode is set to 0 minutes so my guess I did break some settings in hidden option 8888
For now, I am charging my battery tomorrow I will try to post some shots/video of my unit UI and options

Have you also checked that option in the "normal" android settings menu?
So I manage to fix all my 3 problems
1. Bluetooth dissconnect/ cant see and pair
Go 8888 in the advanced menu and OTHERS, add Bluetooth mode 2, INSTALL, and SYNC additionaly manualny add Bluetooth name, after that unit gonna show pin core, connect no problem and for me it keeps Bluetooth active
2. Settings radio eq doesnt remember
Connect fresh fat32 USB stick and choice use as external storage, set all app find see if after reboot it remember
3. And here is extra step as for me the settings doesnt remember even with pendrive connected, I think that i figgle too much on settings and the file that is suppost to keep settings Save override
So go to 8888 and click the ERASE ALL CONTENT
What IT did for me it reboot unit and reflash firmware and factory reset
That way the pendrive trick after setup IT remember all radio station and eq settings
My guess is IT delete broken file that interfeer with Save settings.
Thank you @Blade6100 for all the hints and tricks

Junsun V1 pro won't save settings
So far i've tried:
Adding USB drive as Android space, also as travel media for music
Reset
Update to v61
Manual save to USB drive via 5555 code
Manual save to SD does not work
After restart head unit loses radio stations, equalizer settings
Car is Peugeot 207, Junsun V1 Pro with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM
Any tips are welcome

Don't set the USB stick to be your main storage for apps and other Android related content. I'm sure you will find the Android setting via Google.
Disconnect all USB stuff.
Reboot the unit and change setting. Reboot again and check if settings are still stored.
Please be aware that changing factory settings will delete other settings like radio stations and (maybe) settings if the Junsun launcher (if you use this crap).

Thanks for the reply! Changing factory settings resets radio & etc is useful information. I removed USB memory stick and restarted the device. With entering code 4 restart still resets radio and EQ. Is there any other method for restarting device?

All my information are useful.
I created an app Reboot.apk which restarts the device without the need to keep code 4 in mind:
Junsun V1 - start equalizer/AUX/BT music/CarInfo... from launcher
The app equalizer.apk starts the equalizer (activity com.ts.main.Media.ADASMainActivity): EqualizerShell.apk starts the equalizer (activity com.ts.MainUI/com.ts.set.dsp.SetDspMainActivity) via su shell command. See post below for further...

But to be honest I don't think code 4 will reset the device. Only if you change and save a factory setting.

Most likely you are right. Stations and EQ settings still dissapear. There was some talk about wiring. Mine is connected only with manufacturer plugs, no seperate wires are connected. Maybe there might be the problem?
