For those of you shooting in RAW.... what method are you using to get these pics online? Seems I need to go to a file manager and then upload from there... is there anything easier?

I sue FolderSync, which syncs the folders I choose from my phone to my NAS. It's set to run every 6 hours when charging, so it works sort of like an automated phone backup.
You can also use the app WiFi File Transfer, and transfer files via the browser.

Thanks! my next question was going to be whether there was a way to automate the process but you answered that too.
Generally you don't upload RAW files. You work on them in Photoshop (or whichever software you use) and convert it to another viewable web format.
RAW format is designed like DSLR cameras, so that you can modify certain features of the image after the photo has been taken.

I think he was talking about uploading it from his phone to a computer so he can edit them.

yeah, you interpreted it as I wrote it... what i MEANT was how do i get them from phone to PC... bad wording on my part. I'm looking for the easiest way to get them from phone to PC for editing purposes. If there was a way to automate the process (like this FolderSync, upload it overnight or something) that would be ideal - i'd rather not plug my phone into the PC every time.
FolderSync is a good option (have used that for a while) but you might also want to take a look at Redirect (free version does not upload to computer though), and base a decision on what both apps have to offer :good:
If you subscribe to the Adobe Photography package (LR/PS) you can use Lightroom Mobile to both edit on the phone and sync them with the library on your PC automatically.
Does Dropbox's camera upload sync the RAW files too?

Another option for those without a NAS, is to use Dropsync. It syncs folders on your phone with your Dropbox account, and can be set to run manually, when plugged in, on a schedule, etc. I used this until I got my own NAS.

Piedra, do the DNG files stay on the phone or are they moved to the Creative Cloud or the PC automatically?
I know the Smart Previews are available via collections on the phone when the RAW files are on the Desktop, but what happens if I shoot DNG on the phone? I used up my 30 day preview before the G4 came out and have been wondering if the LR/PS package will help get the DNG files off the phone automatically.
Fairly new to this so go easy on me...but plugging the device in the computer and dragging them over doesn't harm the quality, does it? It seems I can't replicate how well the photos look on the device compared to on the computer in Photoshop.

This sounds like you're looking at the JPEGS on the phone, and are having trouble recreating the LG automated JPEG process using DNG's in Photoshop. Remember, the G4 shoots both JPEGS and DNG's simultaneously.
What you're going to want to do is watch some video training on how to use Lightroom or Photoshop (I prefer Lightroom for 99% of my photo post-process) and maybe even download some presets to do some of the hard work for you. It will take a little while, but once you use Lr or Ps for a while, you can improve on the automated JPEG process in no time. It's especially useful when lighting conditions aren't optimal.
You might be able to set up google drive or Dropbox to sync with a wi fi signal

I took two photos in raw, and then I dragged those off my google drive onto a PC where I tried to open them on both ACD Pro and Polarr (online RAW editor) but couldn't view them at all... just a black square with a faint artifact in the upper left corner.... any insight as to why I can't see the unprocessed image?

I'm not familiar with those two programs, but a quick test of Polarr worked with .ARW (Sony's version of RAW files) but not with the .DNG files, which likely means the software doesn't currently support that type of RAW file.
I'll have to test ACDSee Pro tomorrow when I'm not limited to testing only on a Chromebook.

The camera on the Incredible is by no means anything comparable to a good digital camera but for a phone I think it takes pretty good pictures.
OK, this is a really neat way to post your phone pics to an online gallery.
NOTE: you must have server access and basic knowledge about installing a simple script to the server.
It requires 2 programs.
1 a program called MG2 or MiniGal 2 available free here (they accept donations)

A program available from the Android Market called "Instant Upload"
Both programs are relatively easy to set up providing you have server knowledge and access.
After the set up and installation is done, all you need is to open your explorer program on your phone (I use Root Explorer but Astro file manager works as well) and navigate to the folder where your pics are located, click on the pic and you will be given several options - One of which is "Instant Upload". You need to have Instant Upload configured to upload to the directory that you installed the gallery on your server.
Your photo is uploaded to the gallery but not live yet.
Next you need to go the your gallery page and log in, click on the "Import" icon at the top of the page and the thumbnail and image will be placed in the gallery automatically.
There are several options in the gallery set up, you can change skins, allow user comments on your photos, display xif information and many other options.

As you can see, the gallery will let you add folders to categorize your photos if needed.

Not bursting my bubble, if you prefer Picasa that's fine with me.
Adobe has a nice program that's similar as well.
And for most people Picasa would also be a much easier route to take. But for me this is the way I like it.

Hey all-
I am very new to developing (and Java). Currently working on my 2nd android app so be gentle here. Is there a way, or a good work-around to display web-based pdf files with android? Basically I am trying to have one of the buttons in my program pull up a website that happens to be a web-based pdf. I don't believe WebView will support that.
I have tried converting the pdf files to .png but I loose all the resolution I need as I need the user to be able to zoom in and see the detail.
Is there anyway to either host the pdf file on-line as something else and/or convert it to something else to make it available off-line?

Just throwing this out there, but why not have the link download the PDF file to the user's phone.
Only downside I see to this is in the even that the user doesn't have a PDF "viewer."
Otherwise, I'm not aware of any real way to display a PDF within the browser.
If someone can work this out, I'd be interested in learning his/her technique as well.

Yeah, I know exactly what you are saying. Having an app-to-app dependency can cause quite a hysteria with users. They'll complain that the app is faulty and rate it 1 star.
My other suggestion would be to screenshot the PDF, page by page, and paste them into Photoshop and save the files as jpg's with the highest resolution. It will definitely take up a lot of your time if you have a lot of PDFs with many pages. Granted, you'll be taking up much more space, and the image will be loading a lot slower but you'll have pretty neat quality.
You'll have to weigh the factors on what you find more important - speed or quality.
If you don't mind me asking, what type of app are you making.
Thanks again- well just a few minutes ago my friend who is a bit more proficient with the whole coding thing came up with an idea that might just work-
he suggested taking the PDF and splitting it up into several different images and just creating an arrow button on the sides or top or bottom (depending on where in the image you are looking) and then applying an onClickListener to the buttons which will call up a different image view, which would be the next corresponding image/area of the pdf. I'm hoping that by cutting the pdf into small pieces like that and saving them as either jpg or png files I can retain the resolution I am after AND host them on-line myself for the free-app and give users the option to download the pdf to their SD card in the paid version- which would make my original idea a possibility.
My app is a program aimed at dirtbiking enthusiasts- surprisingly there is not a lot of crossover between the dirtbiking community and the developing community- I am all alone Ha!
I don't imagine I stand to make a bajillion dollars but learning android and java and actually seeing what I am doing work (sometimes) has been a fantastically gratifying experience. Just wish I had more time to do it- a 4-year-old and 5-year-old + wife + full-time job make it hard. I'm in no hurry though
That sounds fairly similar to what Facebook has on their "Touch" version of their site (touch.facebook.com)
If you view pictures within an album, you'll notice you get the arrows on the bottom left and right to keep switching between pictures.
Sounds like that would definitely work.
Keep me posted on your app. I give you props for even being on your 2nd app, as I've seen many people in your same situation (wife, kids, job) just give up after downloading the SDK.
But yeah, I'm interested to see how it turns out.

I will be getting my nexus 7 in a couple days now! (finally!) and I was wondering if any of you have experience with a good app for simple photo editing?
Let me explain what i do. I usually edit my photos with my netbook using picasa. I only change a bit of contrast, shadows, highlights, add some fill lights and crop if needed, that's it, almost no filters etc.
I already got a usb otg adapter and a card reader so that I could edit on the road with just my camera and tablet.
Could anyone share there experiences with something like that?

BAD file management! You have to save your files to their new "cloud" system. I can't save as a .jpg, etc. on my own tablet, nor can I access via usb cable. A Great Program, but forcing me to use Another Cloud System makes it a deal breaker for me. And they don't support full resolution pictures.

Photoshop Touch is arguably the best but the Play Store says it isn't Nexus 7 compatible. It's perfectly compatible if you side load it, however. If you use Picasa then PS Touch is probably overkill, in which case I'd suggest Photo Editor (by Macgyver), Snaptastic, or Picshop, all very easy to use, all with slightly different features.

Also although Evernote does scan my pictures for text, it will not let you copy and paste that text, making it not useful for my purposes. I note that Google goggles will do ocr'ing of a pic for search purposes, but nt ideal for a whole doc. I'm looking for something that does the equivalent of what omnipro. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions.

A few months ago I tried couple of ocr apps and I liked two of them:
OCR Instantly (works offline, so the speed depends on your phone scecs, free version)
ABBYY text grabber (needs internet connection but in my opinion gives better results, 5.99$)
Make sure that you have enough light when taking photos, and that they are not blurry. In OCR instantly, you can change brightness/contrast of the photo before recognition. The point is to make it look like black font with smooth edges on white background as much as you can.
I see you're looking for a good OCR app, so I hope this helps.
I've recently made a quick OCR app that relies on Google's servers for accuracy. It does require an internet connection, but the whole process take less than 30 seconds. You can either take a picture of the document or select an image from your gallery and it'll extract the text from it. Please note that it has to be an image (eg .jpg .png, etc) not a PDF/Word Document.

Hi all,
Does anyone know if Google will be rolling out HEIC support to Android?
I ask because I have a few photos backed up in my Google Photos that I cannot download to my phone because they were taken on my iPhone which was in the new format iOS now uses .heic
I can view them using the Google Photos app no problem but if I want to share them to FB or amend them in a photo editing app then the format is not recognised.
I know this isn't just isolated to the S8 it will be across the board with Android, Windows etc.
Any help will be appreciated.

You can use a heic 2 jpg converter app like 'Luma: *.heic to jpeg converter and viewer'.
Right now it is the only way to share iPhone images to instagram or fb without online services.
P.S. You can share heic images to social networks directly from the app.
