Device ID for downloading apk from Play store - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
I'm in a pinch, and could use a little assistance from someone running the latest stock Lollipop rom.
I'm setting up APK Downloader in Chrome in order to update an application that doesn't think it's compatible with Cyanogenmod, but I no longer have a stock device to get the device ID from. I've searched but none are posted anywhere.
What I need:
Install this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.redphx.deviceid
Look for a Device ID, a 16 character HEX code, this is the one I need, everything else is irrelevant for me. This HEX code is what tells Play Store what device it is and what ROM it runs, so no personal information is included in that.
If you're interested in the APK Downloader, you can find that here:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/apk-downloader/cgihflhdpokeobcfimliamffejfnmfii/related
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Developing on Device

I have programmed in java for quite some time, and am decent at android apps.
However, i have two questions about developing on my device (rooted samsung captivate).
First, how can i get dev tools to run correctly on my phone. I have installed it as stated in "developer.android com/guide/developing/debug-tasks html#additionaldebugging". However, when clicking on Dev Settings it crashed with HARDWARE_TEST security exception. I have read that you need to sign/run it as system.
Is it possible to run it on my rooted captivate? if so how do i install it as system or find the system signature to sign it.
My other question is about programing, compiling, and running android applications from a device. I can take my .apk and unzip it. Then edit any resource files. Then rezip and sign it. However if i want to replace the actual code i need to compile it. I can use an online java compiler but i need to convert it to android format.
I know that dx.bat does this by using dx.jar . I can add dx.jar to the referenced libraries of my app. However i cant figure out what to do past there. Is what i am attempting even possible?
Thanks for your help.
There's a couple threads in this forum from folks like me who want to do this. Perhaps you can help us figure it out
Step one is I think to get an java compiler running on the phone. Then to make a version of DX that can run on the phone to convert the class to .apk
Thanks. in normal java programs you can use "com.sun.tools.javac.Main.compile( new String[] {args} );" found in the "<sdk>/lib/tools.jar" to compile a program. And dx.jar is what is used to covert it to android, however i do not know what to call in it.
We just need to find a way to get these jars to work on android.

Xperia Play Games Launcher issues

Hi everyone.
Really looking for some help in (very) layman's terms. I've searched in the forum for other people with the same problem but the answers are so technical (to me) they go straight over my head!
I have bought a 2nd hand Xperia Play and when I flip it open it doesn't go straight to Games Launcher and I can't see games launcher listed as an app. Either in the App settings on the app scroll through.
I then tried a few times to download the Games Launcher through Android Market and it kept giving me an error message that it can't download. I've tried restoring factory settings and this has made no difference and have also updated the software.
So, where do I go from here? I only wanted the phone for gaming and at the moment I can't do that! Any help, a step by step guide on what to do etc would be really appreciated.
Good karma awaits!
Cheers,
NB

You can use flashtool to flash a stock rom, You don't need to be rooted or bootloader unlocked to do this, It will restore your device to factory default. Look in the dev section
Hey,
Thanks for replying.
My point about (very) layman's was maybe not stressed enough. I don't have a clue what any of what you typed means!
In the meantime, I've changed Playstation Pocket to automatically start when I flip open and even that's not responding. Wondering if I have bought a dodgy phone!
If you can clarify where to look and what to do RE flash that would be great.
Cheers,
James
I'm guessing you mean this...

I really don't understand what I'm supposed to do. Do I download it through the phones browser?
James
Ok flashtool is a windows application. Download flashtool and then search the dev section for the firmware you would like to flash, install the drivers in the driver folder in flashtool, copy your downloaded .tft file to the firmware folder in flashtool.
now run flashtool, pick the firmware and follow the onscreen instructions.
(I'm sure if you searched you will find more indepth info on how to use flashtool)
U said the phone is second hand does it have a super user icon in the main apps menu or one called titanium backup ?
If the previous owner rooted the phone and removed some bloatware it could be as simple as replacing the missing items

Thanks for all the help.
Unfortunately, after a whole weekend of trying to Flash I'm still tearing my hair out. Just a few quick questions.
1) My phone came without an SD card and I used a blank new card. If the games launcher was pre-installed on an SD - could any remnents of the file remain on the phone itself or is it likely to be a different problem?
2) I have downloaded ES File Explorer - What would I be looking to remove? File name and location.
3) If I still can work it out, is there anywhere I can take the phone to have someone take a look at it? I imagine a normal phone shop won't have a clue.
Cheers,
James
Just download the Xperia pc companion software from Sony and use it to restore you Xperia to stock. It will put the games and everything back to stock. It's the easiest way to get back to stock. Other way is with flash tool.

Please advice Google Play store installation on Edge+ G9280

Hello,
I had received a Chinese Samsung Galaxy Edge+ G9280 as a gift but it is not preinstalled with Google Play Store. May I know if any one has successfully installed Google Play Services and Play Store in their Edge+? I'm trying to stay away from rooting the phone as I am afraid of bricking the phone.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards
Alex
On past devices, you had to find a place to download the Google Services APK, root the device, then move the APK to system/app manually. I doubt it's different with the Edge+.
Thanks! May I know had anyone succeeded in rooting a G9280 or similar model yet? Any do or don't? I'd bricked a phone before.. You can imagine how nervous I'm now. Lol
Best regards
Alex

Definitely not for G9280, but you could follow this for any future updates! :good:
Thanks a bunch!!

Another thing you could try is flashing the firmware for the Hong Kong Edge+ if they are the same model#. It would have the full Google services framework and could be flashed using Odin without rooting or tripping Knox and losing your warranty.
G9280 Root and Play Store
Hi Alex
Did you end up getting your G9280 installed with Play Store and root I assume?
I already have root and play store (not done by me) but if I apply and updates from Samsung I will lose root and play store.
Thanks
Play Store not running
Hi
i have unlocked and rooted my device SM-G9280 , installed the google services, but still can not run google play store ,
does anyone have an advice how to get this run ?
Did anyone manage installing gapps on the G9280? Please help
Try this.
If you read Chinese, or if you can find somebody to help you, you can try the following:
Step 1: Please root your phone. Visit this page: http colon //daxiaamu dot com/?p=2055
Step 2: Download Root Explorer in Samsung APP store.
Step 3: Download Google Play Services APK, Google Play Store APK, Please visit: http colon //www dot androidapksfree dot com/apk/google-play-services-apk-latest-version-download/
If you download with your phone, it is stored at /data/media/0/download
Step 4: Use RE to move those two APKs to /system/app
Step 5: Use RE to change permissions from rw-rw-rw to rw-r-r
Step 6: restart your phone and the google play store should be OK. (please install Google Play Store first if you have not yet done so.)
It is not a perfect solution, but it works. Let me know if you cannot make it work.
hey i was looking for the same answer because i have same phone g9280 without any google service and some apps are impossible to get from Chinese store.
i have successfully rooted my device and then i have installed gapps. now it is working fine.
first you need to download the root file, is a xxx.tar , then install it with odin. Also you need to find the PHILZ software and install it in same way, that software allows you to install the gapps file (download it and copy in to the device internal memory as first).
if youre still in china, be aware that you need a VPN installed and working if you want google app works.
hope it helps.
Paid ROM service
I had the same problem and confusion like you guys after I got back from China. Searched a bunch but didn't get a satisfying solution, I emailed both Samsung CN(China) and CA(Canada). CA said it's none of their business since I bought the phone back in China, CN replied that 9280 and CA model have different specs, therefore they cannot provide the CA system I required. I was like wtf, so this Samsung flagship device is just gonna sit at home like a brick?
Did a little Baidu (like Google in China) and finally got an answer. I successfully rooted my 9280 from taobao.com (like ebay or amazon in China) for ¥188, or 30USD 40CAD (wtf with CAD nowadays, geez). The ROM is made by a famous Samsung rooting service company in China. I will put a link at the end of the post.
After a month of use, I will give the ROM an A.
- google services are for sure usable.
- OEM system look with lots of adds-on features in settings.
- a few bugs, not too noticeable.
- improved battery life.
You will see some interesting (but do you need it?) features in settings. Anyways, if you want to access Google Play Store and use Google Services, go for it.
Link below contains some screenshots I took before and after the ROM installation:

umm, the forum wouldn't let me post the screenshots cuz I'm a new user. enter the link without @
How to:
1. A PC (you don't need a sick rig, but not one from the last decade please.)
2. A mainland Chinese friend. Not just some random 2nd gens or HKs. No offense, but he/she will have to understand and follow all the Mandarin installation instructions. Plus, he/she needs a taobao account and a valid payment method accepted by taobao. (Don't worry, if your friend is a Mainlander, they will probably have all that.)
3. 30USD or 40CAD, + a McDonald's happy meal for your friend
Leave me a comment if you have any questions.

here what you need to root your device sm-g9280:
mega.nz/#!kcNCWBiQ[/
contains:
gapps: complete google play services and app.
odin 10
philz_touch : bootloader for rooted device
root stock kernel : root file.
instructions: (all of it is necessary, and totally works if you do it well. im not responsible if your phone get damaged in the process, do it completely under your own responsability) note: if you follow the instructions, youre going to lose your warranty (samsung, vendor or whatever else). i strictly recommend you do backup your phone info and download the original software from .samsung-updates, in case something go wrong you will probably need it to recover your phone alive and restart the process.
step 1: download and unrar the file in the link. PASSWORD KEY IS : JuanC
step 2: copy the GAPPS file (zip file, do not uncompress it) into your device's memory (remember the directory adress)
step3: unblock your download mode in your device options. if you dont know how, just ask youtube.
step4: turn off your device and extract the sim card ( if you dont, you gonna lose your antenna drivers)
step5: start your device in download mode. ask youtube if you dont know how
step6: if the download mode is unblocked, you would be able to see the message "unblock". then you can connect your device via USB to your computer and open the ODIN program (included in the link). you also need to have the lastest SMARTSWITCH program installed in your PC for the phone drivers. If everything goes well this far , you would be able to see a green or yellow square in the upper corner with the word COM1 or COM2 depending of how many USB ports your PC has.
step7: press the AP button, look for the root kernel file and click OK or LOAD. and wait a few minutes depending on your pc configuration. when done, the message screen shows LEAVE CCS
step8: click load on the bottom. if goes well, after a few minutes you will see a green square with the message : PASS!!. if you have a problem in here just load the original software again.
step9: start the phone and let it update the changes. then turn it off and start it again in DOWNLOAD mode, same as before, restart odin in the AP button you look for the PHILZ_TOUCH file. it will change the bootloader of your device. load it!
step10: start the phone and let it update the changes. turn it off again, and start it in BOOTLOAD mode. ask youtube if you dont know how. click on install from sd card and look for the GAPPS file you have copied from beginning. install it. then push "restart"
step 11: enjoy!
hope it helps.

Is not working for me (firmware on the phone--G9280ZCU2AOK6_G9280CHC2AOK6_CHC), in step 7, when I load "G9280-OJ9-Root-Stock-Kernel.tar" the the message "LEAVE CCS" is not showing up, and if I press start, it is flashing the kernel but the phone is stuck at start screen
Ok then go to samsung-updates.com and download the lastest firmware Q2QOJ9 and flash it in the phone. Next repeat the process
---------- Post added at 11:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:44 PM ----------
Or you can baidu the firmware you have and look for the root. Dont worry, when you flash a firmware it will run again. Just ensure the root file you use is same firmware you have inatalled
the firmware you have does not has a root file created yet.
download this firmware and flash it as first step, then do the rest.
samsung-updates.com/details/55960//SM-G9280/CHC/G9280ZCU2AOJ9.html
it is october released and last root file created until now. same as i have installed and running.
thanks, is working now, .... sadly if you update google play is not working anymore, ( tryed to instal youtube and promted me to updete google play ), I tryed "open gapps" and is not working
Somth is different then
I didnt install youtube, till you say it.
Just now i did it with my vpn and i had no problem Installing it and running it. I dont remember if i have updated google play, but just now i have checked and i have 6.0.0 version. And everything is fully working without any problem.
Maybe you can go to the app manager and unistall google and google services and reinstall it from bootloader again and see if the prob is solved. Or google GAPPS and get the last package updated to install.
However, now that you know how to make it works, my advice is you keep moving on next step, i mean maybe downloading the newest firmware from samsung-updates.com on your pc (once youre rooted, you will need to flash it manually) and spending sometime looking for the root file for that firmware.
I trust you let me know if you get it first.

Who created these files, where are they from? Are these for 32bit or 64bit? I am not sure I would call this a guide. How about some additional information, like what device you have a working version running on. Also, brief as it may have been, upon a little looking around it would appear there is not a one-size-fits-all solution as different devices require different parts of certain apk's. Have you resolved this?
Are all functions of assistant working?
Is OK Google working?
Not tryingto come off harsh, but this seems off somehow. Maybe I shouldn't have looked at your "How to build a custom ROM beginners guide", not exactly building a ROM, more like a coloring book, everything is already there you just slip a picture into the back and now it's 'Your Custom coloring book".

Help with this app which pops up 'Parsing' error when installing

Hi guys. Could someone please have a look at this weather app and establish why it throws up Parsing error when I try to install it on my Acer Android.
I extracted it from my Huawei P8 using SHAREit but it doesn't install for some reason. May be the name of the apk file is not as it should be but I don't know what to rename it to. It is the stock Huawei Weather app version 6.1.09 that came with the updated Android 6.
com.huawei.android.totemweather_6.1.0923_6.0-eng.apk
Or, is a working one available for download?
Any help is apreciated very much.
Thanks a lot.
More than likely it is corrupt, and/or wrong version for the Android version on the Acer, that's why.
Why must it be that particular weather app. there are loads on Playstore and many are way better, IMHO.
Hi and thanks for replying. Yes I'm aware of the many other similar apps available but this one has just the right amount of info and visuals for me whilst still being light weight and simple. I just can't get to like any other ones I try.
You're right about the apk file being corrupt since it comes up with the same error when installing on the same phone it was extracted from.
As I have the P8Lite running this app. Can someone please tell me how I can get the executable apk file directly from the phone.
Thanks
